Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. To think that he would 110 years old today, well – that is just amazing. I’m sure he would be absolutely proud to see that his works and rhymes are still so relevant today was it was back then. By the time Dr. Seuss died in 1991, he had produced more than 60 children’s books – many of which I have read as a child and continue to read to my children till this day.
Dr. Seuss’ first children’s book – “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street”, was published in 1937 and thereafter his popular best sellers like The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham became household names.
“Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!”
Today is what we know in the Nation and Worldwide as Dr. Seuss Day – to not only celebrate this great writer but his birthday. I figured it would be a great time to share a quote or two of his that are some of my favorites.
Have a wonderful Thursday!
A DIY on the costume the twins’ are wearing can be found here.
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” – Barack Obama
I think this is a quote definitely worth sharing more than once. Don’t you think? Here’s to a little motivation and inspiration to end your week. Have a wonderful weekend!
Whew… another week has begun and I feel like I didn’t quite finish up the tasks from last week to warrant starting a new one. Let’s face it, who ever completes their daunting daily tasks deserves an award, because my list is ever growing and it seems like there is less and less time in a day to accomplish it all. Nonetheless, I digress and try to move forward to the best of my ability.
“Significance is very different from success. Significance means that you are adding value to others lives. Once you taste significance, you won’t care about success anymore.” – John Maxwell
As I sit here at my desk working endlessly to get all of my ducks in a row for the next few days, I find myself wondering… “Am I adding value to the lives of those that read this blog?” Hmmm… don’t answer that… haha! No, but kidding aside, I really wanted to take this site back to its roots and I find myself consistently asking the same question of myself each day. Do I bring value to the table? The quick answer would be, yes… right? The long answer would be… I may not bring value to all but I certainly offer some form of value to a few, which in all honesty – is better than none at all. Right?
So, what is it that you bring to the table that adds value to those around you? Do you look at your worth by the amount of success you accomplish or do you look at your worth by how you help those around you? In this day and age, let’s face it – not many people make the time to help others anymore. When they do, it’s half assed and rushed causing you to really question their motivations as to why they lent that hand in the first place. But should it really matter how much or how little someone has helped versus the fact that they have helped at all? Let’s think about this for a second shall we? If someone lends a helping hand for you (say, you have fallen and need some assistance standing up), do you feel grateful when they lean over and help you up and then ask you if you need anymore assistance or if you’re okay. How about if they simply just helped you stand without a word and went on their merry way? Which would you prefer? Or are you like me and think that either way – the person took the time out of their day to help you regardless of small talk and that meant a lot to begin with? I find that sometimes no words is not necessarily a bad thing. In this time when so many are at fault with one another and there is so much bigotry and ignorance in the World, if a person took 30 seconds out of their day to help you in silence versus 5 minutes and took the time to have a conversation, we should be thankful that either person took the time regardless. Those few seconds mean a lot to anyone who barely has enough time in the day to accomplish their own tasks at hand – don’t you think?
Lately I think my goal in life is to be significant. It’s not about being successful (yes, we all strive for that in some way or another), but being significant means that I’m adding much more than just success to the table. When you take the time to offer value and add value to those around you – you truly are significant. Like John Maxwell said “Once you taste significance, you won’t care about success anymore.” Well John, I agree – but I think that to be significant in the world, adding value to others’ lives around you is a success too.
Wishing you all a wonderful Monday. May today and this week be filled with a plethora of inspiration to fill your bucket full.
I absolutely love the Holiday Season and to me, the Christmas season means much more than just presents, snow and jingle bells. I love that Christmas allows us to share in giving but also in celebrating our Savior and his love. I don’t often talk about Religion here on Honeygirl’s World, and I’m a wholehearted believer that no matter your religion, believing is seeing!
There are several things you can do to offer service this Christmas Season. Like I said before, regardless of your religion belief, you have the ability to serve others. Each year my family and I work together to help serve those in need – no matter what time of year, but especially during the holiday season. I would like to share 10 ways that you can lift others burdens – ways that you and your family can part-take in.
- Remember that you never know the struggle a person is dealing with when you come in contact with them. A kind smile, compliment or generosity are great ways of rising someone’s spirits while making them feel great about them self.
- Donate food like canned goods to your local food bank. My sons and I always take a list of canned goods and suggestions with us while shopping and pick up a few extras to deliver to the food bank.
- Adopt a family this holiday season. Each year my family and I select a name from the “Angel Tree” and purchase gifts on the family’s holiday wishlist.
- Donate your gently used items like household goods, clothing, blankets and more to your community homeless shelter. Winter is the coldest time of year and sometimes a warm blanket, jacket and socks can make a huge difference in someones life.
- Make a meal for a family member or friend who may be ill, down on their luck or overworked. Or – donate the meal to the soup or homeless kitchen for holiday service.
- Help a neighbor who is elderly by collecting their recyclables, trash, etc. so that they do not have to get into the cold and take care of it.
- Write letters or send holiday cards to service members, sending them holiday cheer as they serve our country and are aware from their families and friends.
- Sing and carol around your local neighborhood to bring holiday cheer.
- Help a friend in need. Assist a friend who may need help, a ride, a meal or anything and make sure you follow through and see it to the end. Sometimes all your friend may need is kind wishes and a prayer, but knowing that someone is rooting for them means everything.
- Head on over to mormon.org for a list of ways that you can make a difference and don’t forget to #LightTheWorld
I can’t stress this enough, no matter what religion we believe in – together, we can all work together and help to light the world with Christ’s love and a commitment to serve. In 25 days and 25 ways we can offer those around us action and service inspired by Christ and Light The World around us.

You know, I’ve said this time and time again… but who I am today and what I have become was in part molded for me by those before me. My parents, my grandparents, family and friends who have inspired who I am as a person today. I recently was introduced to a beautiful Angel Locket by Yourself Expression and I wanted to share with you this beautiful piece that has completely won over my heart.
These beautiful Angel Lockets are the perfect way to express love or remembrance (or both). These lockets are unlike the traditional lockets you are accustomed to. They are bold, but dainty and offer gorgeous geometric shapes to compliment who you are as a person or your personal style. Each locket features filigree-like detailing and crystal accents. What makes these lockets different than your traditional ones is that instead of holding a picture inside of your loved one, each locket houses a sphere with a chime inside. Each necklace can be personalized to fit your taste by choosing the color of the sphere, making your choice something that is symbolic to you or simply your favorite shade or hue.
The chime inside is subtle, light and not distracting at all. It serves as a reminder that someone you love is thinking of you and always with you in spirit. Each locket is meant to keep love and protection around you or the person you gift it to.
Teen Entrepreneur Shelby Golguski and her brother Gordon created Yourself Expression to share things they love with others – young and old. Their Angel Lockets merge customized accessories and an on-trend look perfectly. There are various different lockets in different shapes, designs and finishes that make these so pretty and unique to your personal style.
I have the Yourself Expression Spiral Design Angel Locket in Gold with a Silver Chimer. My chain is made of stainless steel and my locket is silver plated with a copper base. My chimer is a clay-painted ball that makes a soft chime when you move. Each Angel Locket can be easily cleaned and wiped dry and you should take care in not wetting it or wearing in water. The chain is 32″ and the locket 1″ in size.
I have had this locket now for about a month and have absolutely fell in love. It reminds me of my childhood and if you know anything about me, you know that each jewelry piece I use consistently has some type of significant meaning to me. The piece is lightweight and I absolutely love the soft chime I hear when the necklace moves about it. After using this consistently over the last month, I also love the fact that it hasn’t tarnished on me or turned my skin green as well. Most jewelry pieces will do that to me after the first use if they are not real. It’s sturdy and really well made. Each locket is $20 and I look forward to picking up one or two more to add to my collection because I am absolutely in love with my locket.
They say that when a loved one passes, you will carry a piece of them in your heart always. What makes this locket so wonderful is that the little chimes that come from it are little reminders that I’m never alone. As a lover of mythical creatures like fairies and unicorns, I am reminded that there is always a little bit of pixie dust somewhere to help brighten my day and that I always have angels over my shoulder.
I think this will be a timeless piece for years to come and a great gift for yourself or a loved one. Angel Lockets are a unique gift and the perfect little treasure for anyone to have. It’s affordable, well-made and stylish. I love the concept and enjoy the product and I’m proud to share it with all you today.
What about you, do you think Angel Lockets is something that you would enjoy or a loved one would like as a gift? Have you heard or seen anything like this before?

What is Gal-Entine’s Day? Celebrating Your Girlfriends on Gal-entine’s Day
Celebrating any holiday is much more fun with our Gal Pals. So what is Gal-entine’s Day? Well, it’s basically a time when we as besties gather together with our gals and have a great celebration of friendship. There’s no need to compare our love trials and tribulations… we all just get together to chit chat and have fun before Valentine’s Day and celebrate the bond we have between friends. Traditionally celebrated on February 13th (the day before Valentine’s Day), this special day is meant to be fun and a way to not only reconnect with our besties, but to have a little fun. So – get on the phone, social media and start texting your girlfriends for a day or evening of laughs, fun and excitement to celebrate your friendships. Wondering what you can do on this Gal-entine’s Day? Well, read on to get a little inspiration!
Gifts? Presents? What do you get for your bestie on Galentine’s Day?
Well, giving your gal pals a little token of your friendship is sweet and perfect for a day like this. I tend to like to create a little DIY or have something made specifically for my girlfriends. You can opt to create a friendship bracelet (yes, those are still cool and not only for pre-teens) or even bake something sweet. Get the gals something that can be personalized like a locket or something that will remind you of your childhood.
DIY – Fun Projects for the Girls
DIY products can be fun to do when you’re with a bunch of friends. I tend to have a ton of supplies for all kinds of goodies laying around my house in my craft bins, so anything can make for a great product. Something my sister and I used to do a lot is create candles or soap to give as gifts or to display in our bathrooms and we had so much fun making and using these products. Bath bombs are fun too or a really easy sugar scrub in cute decorated jars make wonderful creations. Have fun and let your ideas soar. It’s not only something to do with your friends, but it’s memento they can take with them when the night is done.
Am I the only person that enjoys shows like Criminal Minds, Empire or Orange Is The New Black? Well, why not gather around the tube (television since most people now have flat screens) and binge watch some of your favorite shows with your gal pals. Order pizza or make a quick Pull Apart Pizza (recipe here) and indulge in some gorgeous chocolate berries from Shari’s Berries. Not into my flick choices? Well, choose some of your faves or rock out to Pitch Perfect and have a mini Aca-session with your gals.
If you know me, then you know this is not something I take part in often. I’m the only person in my family that is tone deaf and because of it, no one wants to hear me sing… lol. But, Karaoke evenings are fun and I have enjoyed taking part in them. Either pull out your Karaoke machine you have stored away or head over to your local Karaoke Bar and have some fun. Sing to your favorite tunes and enjoy the night with some appetizers or finger foods (pizza works – can you tell that’s my favorite food) or delightful desserts. Belt your heart out to your favorite tunes and have a party.
Paint ’N Wine Event
There are a few locally owned places on island where I live that offer a paint event (sometimes a little wine) that you can take part in. These cool events allow you and your friends to go and get a very awesome painting instructional class from an artist/teacher and allow you to create the masterpiece yourself. While there you have the chance to have a little wine and talk story all while having a great time. Note that if you take part in these, make sure you have a designated driver accompany you or pick you up from the venue as it can be a lot of fun. You can take the painting home after and remember your night with your girls. If painting and wine are not your thing, see what kind of “tasting” events are available. A local restaurant here offers a Tea Time event once a week where you drink tea and have a light brunch under the trees in a beautiful courtyard. It’s gorgeous and so much fun .
Ah, as a beauty and makeup lover, I knew I had to include this. A day of pampering is always fun. Gather your gal pals and pull out your favorite makeup, skin care items and mani pedi favorites and do a little pampering. If you have a local Mary Kay representative or an Avon rep, contact them to see if they would like to do makeovers while sharing their products with your gals. Since I have a makeup artist kit, I tend to pull those out and just make it a fun activity for everyone. I may do smoky eyes on all the girls (something they are not used to) or do a full pedicure and manicure on each. All of this fun while eating and drinking and dancing to your favorite songs. It’s like a sleepover without sleeping – just old school fun. I also like to up together little bags of treats for each friend – including a nail file, some chocolates of course, and anything beauty related. ELF offers some good makeup for a $1.00 and you can stuff a bunch of treat bags with things that you love and know they will love too. Looking for fun ideas on makeup looks to create? Head on over to my Valentine’s Day Playlist on YouTube and get a little inspired.
Don’t leave out your Far Away Besties
I don’t know about you, but I have friends all over the World and many of them live hours away from me let alone a whole continent. While they live so far away, I still want to let them know that I’m always thinking of them. A sweet card that comes with something special or a handmade sentiment is always a great thing. It will be great if it gets to her on February 13th so she checks her mail box and is surprised. Also, with technology now a days, there are many ways to communicate face to face without being there in person so Skype and have a chat to catch up. This is the perfect opportunity to talk about your Valentine’s Day plans and to share that new outfit you bought for the special occasion.
Who’s Up For A Girl’s Trip?
Living on an island really doesn’t help much for road trips here, but what is so great is that Hawaii is filled with so many awesome destinations that it’s easy to find sanctuary anywhere. If you and your friends are riding the single train for now, hey – what better time than to plan a girl’s weekend trip. Head to your favorite resort and spend the weekend at the pool or at the spa and just rejuvenate your body for the following Monday. Not single? Well, that doesn’t mean you can’t do this too… take a drive to wine country (here on Maui, we can head up to Tedeschi Vineyards) and have a wine tasting and then breakfast at Kula Lodge. The options are endless whether you live on Maui or are anywhere in the World. Sometimes a weekend getaway with your gal pals are the perfect way to really relax and rejuvenate the soul. And, what better way to have some relaxation than with your besties.
Day Trip to Buy Makeup
This may sound like an odd one… but since our local Sephora is a two hour drive away, my sisters and I have a tradition where we drive together (all three of us) and take a trip to the other side of the island to go shopping at our local Sephora. This gives us about 4 – 6 hours of time with one another (sometimes longer) and we get to chit chat makeup, have brunch and just relax and enjoy each others company. Most the time we don’t even buy makeup but spend an hour walking around Sephora chatting about our favorite products and testing out new ones we have yet to try. It’s our time together and we enjoy it.
While Galentine’s Day is February 13th, I think that any time of the year you are feeling like you need a little Gal love is appropriate to do something like this for your girls. Your besties are the ones that see you through every single trial and tribulation, every event and exciting moment. Celebrating with one another and sharing the love you have with each other is a great thing to do all the time, but especially on Galentine’s Day. What are you doing for your gal pals this year? Comment below and share some ideas that you may have!
Did you know there was such thing as a Gal-entine’s Day? If not, how do you plan to make use of this new day each year.

In our household, Valentine’s Day is every day so it’s not a holiday or date we necessarily put a huge emphasis on each year. To my husband and I, Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love and we embrace love and commitment each and every day. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy the occasional flowers, box of chocolates or jewelry but for us, Valentine’s Day is really about spending time with one another. You see – with our busy schedules and odd shifts, parenthood and just our overall daily lives, spending time with one another is what makes for a great Valentine’s Day.
“Any time not spent on love is wasted.” – Torquato Tasso
My husband Kevin and I have been together for almost 19 years and in that time we have definitely celebrated this holiday in different ways. Dinner by candle light, roses and floras galore and beautiful gems and jewels to stop traffic but one tradition we have definitely kept strong over the years is a new watch for one another. Whether I’m buying a new one for him or he a new one for me, each year whether for the holidays, birthday or Valentine’s Day at least one of us gets a new watch for our collection. Watches are so significant to each of us. To us, a watch is more than just an accessory we wear on our wrists, it symbolizes time and our time together is so precious and important to us.
“I would rather have 30 minutes of something wonderful, than a lifetime of nothing special.” – Julia Roberts (Steel Magnolias)
This year I treated Kevin to a beautiful JORD Watch – a 94A Series in green sandalwood and maple. This perfect wood watch makes a statement that is bold but not so much that it would make a person feel uncomfortable when wearing it. It is the kind of watch for those who are making the most of every moment, every single minute and every day. For a couple like us who collects watches of all kinds, this particular time piece is classic and stunning.
While each couple or person celebrates Valentine’s Day the way they choose, we opt to make sure that no matter the reason, we make sure that we spend time with one another, soaking in each and every moment and absolutely cherishing what we have. As a couple we have learned that life’s moments can sneak up on you and in a heartbeat anything can change. Make use of the time you have and spend it with the one(s) you love. Make Valentine’s Day every day and make every moment you live something wonderful.
Each person celebrates love differently and whether it be to buy something special for someone you care about or to spend every waking moment with the one you love, the decision is up to you. With busy schedules, three active boys and a life of activity – my husband and I have found that two minutes with one another is a cherished commodity and one we take advantage of as much as possible. Time with one another is our favorite gift and the reason why we buy each other watches for presents.
I’ve partnered with JORD to giveaway a limited quantity of e-gift cards worth $25 each for Valentine’s Day! If you’ve had your eye on one of these stylish wood watches, be sure to enter to redeem your gift code. Your gift code will be good through the end of March 2016! Entering is easy; click the link below. You will be asked to enter your email and your favorite JORD watch (there are so many to choose from). Who am I?
Well, it’s obvious that I am a blogger (just call me an editor – lol), Photographer, an art lover and self proclaimed gourmet food aficionado (otherwise known as major foodie) as well as a creative brain waiting to jump out and show the world what I can do. But, most importantly – I am a Wife and Mother.
I have a husband named Kevin who has been and continues to be my rock, my strength and my biggest supporter. If you know anything about me, then you know that for years, I struggled to discover myself and who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. Through it all, our love has stood the test of time and through our ups and downs – through sleepless nights and times when we had no money, we persevered and looked past it all. We continue to love one another, commit our hearts to each other and look forward to a lifetime of memories.
A year or so ago I was approached by a colleague that asked me a question that I never thought I would ever have to answer. But, in answering her question I realized that our world is not what we consistently hope it to be. While I constantly live in my own fairy tale, many are just longing for love. Today I share with you her question and my response.
Friend: “How can you be so in love with someone, after all these years… and talk about him as if you have a new found relationship – like teenagers? You guys act like you are newly in love.”
My answer: “How can you not? When you give your love to someone, during your wedding vows or other – don’t you commit to them with all your heart and soul? Shouldn’t love be fun and interesting? Shouldn’t you live each day for one another – be there for each other and more importantly, love like you don’t have tomorrow. It’s different when you fall in love with someone and marry them. They are your best friend, your soul mate. Your love for them can only grow more and more as time passes.”
It’s corny – I know… but it’s true! This is who I am and what I feel inside. There are times when I get so busy and wrapped up into being a wife and mother, that I often don’t pay attention to how strong my love is. Sometimes, I find myself in extreme auto-pilot, living through each day as if I were a part of a robotic colony completing each task on automatic mode. But, while those times can come more often than not, I know that I can always stop and be so thankful for where I am in life and how far it has taken me.
I also mentioned being a mother. I have three beautiful boys and while they are all their own individual selves with their own personalities, they helped to mold me into the mother I am today. Through many times of the utmost insanity, my boys have helped me to keep it all together. I’m not gonna lie, being a mother is already a challenge and topping it off with three VERY active boys is icing on the cake. My eldest (Kevin Ka’eo) is now 12 years old and is already going through that stage of being “too grown up” for his parents – yikes. And, the twins (Luke & Isaiah) are now 6 years old with an agenda each all their own. All of them keep me absolutely on my toes… between school functions, sports and just an overall lack of sleep – but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. These boys are my love bugs, they have captured my heart forever.
You see, in life – we meet new people, gain new relationships and take on many challenges. I am who I am today because of those who have inspired me to be more than I could ever imagine. I would never change any of it – Never, ever! I have a strength that many people cease to exude. It’s not that they don’t have it, but merely because they don’t realize they do.
The strength behind my soul is my family. These four people in my life that not only provide the biggest support that I could ask for as a person, but the foundation of which my life succeeds. I’m stronger because of them and for them and my soul, my heart is whole because of the love I have for them. They say that love is what makes or breaks a person – it is what develops a person into who they become and what their future will hold. If that’s the case, I think my future is bright and my soul is strong because I live a love that most people only dream of.
Wishing you all a wonderful day! Thanks for letting me pour out my heart and soul for all of you! xo
