Outfit of the Day (OOTD)
The boys and I have been enjoying our summer months together since my husband is usually working on the weekdays. Come on now, we live on Maui, which has been rated the number 1 Vacation Destination by Conde Nast many years in a row, so we do have a plethora of sites to see and lots of fun to be had. While we live on the mountain, we experience really hot days so I decided to pack the boys up into the car and take a drive up to Kula to cool down – since the air is much cooler there. Our journey led us to the Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm, a place we have visited many times before – but it’s been years since I bought the twins here, so I decided it would be a perfect place to venture.
The Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm is located on the slopes of Haleakala and overlooks some of the most beautiful views on the South side of the island. It is a 25-30 minute drive away from the Kahului Airport (the main airport into Maui) and a popular spot for visitors to stop at and have lunch after watching the sunrise at Haleakala or hiking the crater. At one time, it used to be free to enter the Lavender farm, so I was surprised to see a guard house at the entry (it was not there my last visit a few years ago) and entry for adults is $2.00. It’s well worth the cost however. You can bring your own lunch and have a picnic or hike the grounds for a great adventure. The air is so cool up there, it was a perfect place for the boys and I to getaway to beat the heat.
There is a little shop that sells tasty delectables featuring the fresh picked lavender, but the boys and I decided that we would just take in the sites and cool down and head home to eat lunch instead. We walked around the gardens and admired the fragrant lavender as we took in the sites.
It was a short little adventure, but a beautiful day out so I took this opportunity to take some shots of the boys and my eldest son Kevin helped take a few photos of my casual outfit I wore.
The best part about our little drive and excursion today was that I was able to spend it with the boys. They go back to school in about 2 1/2 weeks and this summer break flew by too quickly. The twins are off to 1st Grade and Kevin is off to 7th Grade. With Football season starting for all three boys August 1st – I know that times like these will be few in between, so I’m glad we made great use out of our Summer break.

If you’re not following me on Snapchat – my code is in my side bar, come and follow me on my daily journey. What about you, are you enjoying the summer months? I’m thankful to live in Hawaii and blessed to have a lifestyle where every day is an adventure and a vacation.
Since my DSLR hasn’t been working, it’s been really nice to find reasons to take my phone out to practice shooting with it… all the images that you see in this post were taken with my Samsung Note 4.

I can’t count how many times I have been told that Plus sized gals don’t belong in shorts. It’s the summer ya’all… and it’s way too hot so I’ll wear it if I have it. The fact is, I live in shorts if I can find a pair that suits the rest of my outfit and as many know who follow this blog – I’m a casual and laid back soul who loves to dress according to what makes me feel comfortable, not what others think I
should wear. Before I became “plus sized” I actually wore a lot of shorts or lived most of my teenage life in a bikini, because I like to be cool and this is Hawaii, where most people are lightly clothed, lol. So, while my thighs are thick, I like them to be free and cool, so summer means either shorts or dresses. Today, I remind you all that plus size girls can wear shorts too… with a quick summer plus size casual outfit.
Earlier in the month I got a really cute ribbon crusher hat in white from Scala Pronto and thought that my casual, but functional look for the day would be the perfect marriage. Since the boys and I were out and about playing tourist on our island, I thought – why not strut my stuff in a fun hat with a comfy outfit to pair with it.
The #LC511 Hat is a wide brim hat that is lightweight. It includes a sewn-ribbon design and also provides SPF 50 protection which makes it perfect to pair with your summer outfits or year round. It has a pretty tie at the back with an interior swear band for all-day comfort while wearing and includes colors in white, black, turquoise, poppy and fuchsia. This is the ideal accessory for the pool and beach as well as a casual (like I’m wearing) or dress up style.

Now, I know what you’re thinking… “But, Honey – isn’t that a workout or active wear shirt?” Well, Yes and that is the whole reason I wore it today, hence the word “active wear”. Don’t you know that running after three kids is major cardio? Hahaha! I needed something I could move in because keeping up with the boys while they are on Summer break means I have to be ready in an instant and constantly on my toes… but, don’t worry about me, I digress! It’s cool and comfy but loose enough to allow me to really be active and have some fun with my littles. And, I happen to like the saying on it, who doesn’t like a cute graphic tank anyway?
Growing up in Hawaii, being a surfer girl and tomboy for most of my life has really allowed me to embrace the casual island living. I’m not gonna lie, you will catch me in a tank and shorts or a dress most of the year if I’m not rocking out a pair of jeans. I love it and I love that I can be comfortable and get down and dirty with my sons if the time calls for me to do so. While I’m not a size 7 like I used to be, I still use shorts and I think plus size gals like myself shouldn’t be ashamed to use shorts too. It’s comfortable and don’t we deserve to be comfy, especially during the summer?
So what about you? Do you find yourself rocking out a pair of shorts, graphic tank, flip flops and a cute hat this summer? Comment below and let me know what you’re wearing while out and about and playing tourist this summer?

It’s no secret that I’m a plus sized gal – well, now anyway. But, I always say that being plus sized doesn’t mean that you need to sacrifice your style! There are a lot of things you can wear that are not only fashionable but also comfy, even during the summer months. Living in Hawaii means that summers are warm and humid, so dressing comfortably is not only important, but also ideal. During the summer I absolutely live in dresses and shorts, and if I had my way, short dresses would be my go-to since they are not only easy to wear and cool, but comfortable. But since I’m a plus sized woman, short dresses mean that they can often hike up on their own quite easily since my bum and my chest have a mind of its own. Because of this, I’m always on the hunt for undergarments that will not only provide support, but also be easy to wear during this time. Recently I was introduced to Jockey® Skimmies Slipshorts. I have tried many and I truly put the emphasis on many slimming and smoothing undergarments over the years – even during my skinnier years… and have not found one as comfortable as these. You can quote me on that too! So what in the world are Skimmies? I have the long length size in an XXL. These undergarments are microfiber stretch shorts that are used for smoothing coverage under skirts. They are lightweight, offer a sleek design without constriction and come in a variety of colors. They fit so comfortably, I literally forget that I’m wearing them and they are absolutely perfect for the days I want to use my shorter dresses or mini skirts. They not only cover your bum, but they keep your panty lines to a minimum and offer anti-static defense for those days you are using your favorite flowy skirts. I find that they work so well under my maxi skirts on those days I feel a little bloated and can seem to fit anything right and they are now my favorite “must-have” to wear under my cute and flirty short dresses. I have them in white, but plan to pick them up in black and nude because I love them so. In the past, I have had issues with similar undergarments riding up on my thighs and so constricting that it made it hard to sit, or breathe. If that wasn’t the problem, they were so tight or uncomfortable and it was unbelievably hot that wearing them was just unbearable. Jockey’s Skimmies are made of a comfortable microfiber fabric, breathable and easy to wear. They stretch well and even fit me so well that I forget that I’m a plus size woman sometimes. I also forget that I’m wearing them and I never have to worry about flashing anyone when I’m wearing a short dress. Skimmies are available in three types: Original Skimmies® which are available in short and long lengths and are perfect for a smooth & polished look under your favorite dresses, Anti-static Skimmies® that are great to wear under pants or cotton fashions and Wicking Skimmies® which are great for working out and have moisture-wicking which is a quick dry fabric to help prevent chafing. They have a silky-smooth microfiber stretch fabric that offers great coverage without restriction. I love that it is easy to wear under pants or cotton clothing and you don’t have to worry about cling. The wide, flat leg hem is designed for a stay-put fit and the targeted stretch zones help to flatter your natural curves. If you are looking for an undergarment that is breathable, cool, comfortable and doesn’t make you feel like you’re wearing a coat – these are definitely a great solution. They work just like a slip, covers like shorts and are definitely my new go-to and must-have. Jockey Skimmies range from $20 – $22 and are available in sizes to fit from small to 2xl. They come in white, black and nude and a few other colors like grey and blue (depending on the type you select). The options are great and the price is right. So how have Skimmies saved my summer? This gal will be comfortable in whatever I choose to wear; especially my cute mini dresses and not have to worry about offering those around me a free peep show of what’s underneath. But, I do not have to sacrifice comfort and style for protection and I certainly don’t have to spend an arm and a leg for it too! How would you like to be #SavedBySkimmies? It’s no secret that when it comes to fashion, anything I wear or use must not only be functional but also comfortable. Sometimes I feel like my laid back lifestyle has me too lax and often it can be a bit basic, but I love taking basics and turning them into something fun and fashionable. I’m born and raised in Hawaii so most of my life you could find me in a bikini or bathing suit with board shorts and a surf board, but now that I’ve changed things up a bit, I try to add a little more flair to what has become comfortable. While what I wear may be simple, consisting of mostly basics to allow for me to change up from time to time – I love to add handbags that will give me a sense of style and freedom at the same time. Accessories can make or break a look easily so here is what I do to take a basic outfit and jazz it up a bit. Here’s my plus size outfit featuring Miche Bag to compliment the look.

- Black Empire Waist Jersey Strapless Dress – Old Navy
- Denim Vest with Cut sleeves – Forever21 Plus
Since Flip flops are pretty much the go to for most looks here in Hawaii, I decided that would be a great choice not only for comfort but also for style. I decided to go with a platform/wedge style flip flop to add a dressier flare to the look
- Black Flip Flops – Guess Sabell Platform Flip flops
No outfit is complete without some accessories and for me I wanted it to be simple, basic but still add a little flare. If you have been following this blog or my YouTube channel a while, then you know I’m pretty simple and usually will have the same type of necklace or watch for my daily style. Today I switched up my watch and included something that would be fun and add a little bit of swagger to my look.
- Maple & Black Wooden Watch – JORD Watches, Sully Collection
- Necklace – Gift from Husband
- Earrings – Rose Floral Drop Earrings in Gold from Muwae
Last but not least – it’s all about the handbags. It’s no secret that I’m a huge handbag fanatic… my husband can attest to that (teehee), and I’m always looking for the perfect bag to help accommodate all of my personal and mommy needs as well as be functional and stylish. About 5 years ago I was introduced to Michebags and immediately fell in love with not only the quality – but the styles and the price. Let’s just say that I love these bags so much that I own two different sizes and over 12 shells… ssshhh… don’t tell the pocket book. lol
Miche bag’s concept is easy… You purchase a base bag (in my case, this is the Prima base bag) and then you purchase a shell to go with it. The idea was developed by a women who wanted to be able to change out her bag easily without having to pull all the contents of her bag out. You simply pull your base bag out of your shell and put it in a new one and you are good to go.
- Miche Prima Shell in Carmen – a brown caramel shade bag with gold accents
- Miche Prima Shell in Maria – a gorgeous cream and print bag with gold accents
Each bag is so easy to get in and out of to switch out you can easily go from day to night and it takes just seconds. I am wearing my Miche bags pictured with the regular black handles and gold chain links to add to the gold accent. These bags are not only functional, they are affordable.
Miche Prima Base bag: $29.99
Miche Prima Shell: Range between $40 and $100
Miche Accessories: Range between $9 and $20
If this bag is too large for you – do not worry, this is the largest size Miche carries but there are a variety of sizes available from their Petite, Classic and Demi. Also, Miche offers different colors in their handles as well as their chains and Carabiners so you have endless options to switch up your style and preference. Each strap, handle, carabiner and hardware is interchangeable with any of the shells and the shells are seasonal so you can expect to see new styles rolled out several times a year. Fashionable and on-trend, Miche is definitely a great selection for those who love handbags and want to keep their look fresh.
Check out Miche and their styles by heading over the their website: www.miche.com
Now – just because I have a really relaxed style, doesn’t mean you can’t jazz up a similar look with say a pair of strappy heels or wedges or even a larger necklace for a statement piece. What I love about style is that it is just like makeup and it’s all about the individual and their preferences.
Also – be sure to check out the Miche Hope Collection – inspired by those affected by Cancer, a portion of the proceeds from sales of the collection go directly to cancer research and other charities.
So – what are your favorite types of things to wear during the Spring time? And, have you heard of Miche Bag? If you love handbags like me, definitely head on over to the site and check out what they have to offer. I’ve been a fan of their products for a few years and with a pretty big collection, it definitely states how much I love and enjoy the brand and their products.
I hope you enjoyed this post. It seems like a whiles since I have posted outfits but I’m slowly getting back in the groove again. Don’t forget to stop by and check out my video (click here to watch) – I hope you like it.
xo and Happy Spring!
Didn’t I say in my last outfit post that I’m totally crushin’ on Old Navy’s graphic tees and graphic print tops? Yes, I believe I did… but just in case you missed it… you can check out that post here – lol. I have been especially loving the tanks because they are comfortable to wear in this humid Hawaii weather. Considering we are expecting a hurricane this weekend, even with the rain that has graced my island, it’s still super hot and humid so keeping cool with these tanks have been essential. Anyway, on to my plus size outfit of the day.
It was an Old Navy kind of day today and when I say this… I mean from head to toe. As much as I try to dress up, it’s too hot and this busy mommy has to be able to do everything my daily duties consist of but still try to keep my comfy level high.
Meant to Be Tank – Old Navy (available in select stores only)
Watch – Invicta
Necklace – Charm Locket Necklace, Combination of Origami Owl and ShopMissA
Isn’t the print on this Tank super oober cute? I absolutely love it and we all know how I am when it comes to “love” and “true love” stuff… I know, I know… I’m just a hopeless romantic at heart.
I added some color to my hair using the Redken Color Rebel Hair Makeup in:
- Rebel without a Coral
- Ultra Violet
A few review of these products will be posted on my blog in the next few days – so keep an eye for that.
If you haven’t noticed already – I’m not wearing any makeup today. Besides some lip balm and a light coat of mascara… this is my every day. My little dress up session took me to the twins’ school for a monthly parent meeting with the rest of the moms and dads so it was all about being comfy so I could sit on the little tiny chairs in the classroom 🙂 Wishing you all a fabulous day and awesome week.
“Forever & Always!”
Oh Fall… where are you? Maui is super hot and humid and man I would love some cool chilled air my way, but it just hasn’t been so lately. It was so warm today that a tank and shorts was on my outfit list… less is better, right? (did I just say that? lol) So here is my Plus Sized Outfit of the Day…
You know in Hawaii we rock out flip flops like they are about to be discontinued, lol. So here is my super quick outfit for going out and tackling Costco with my three sons. Overall I have to say it was a fun day… we picked up my lil sis and spent a few hours with her while we tackled some errands… overall, I consider it a WIN.
- Top – Love is Forever Graphic Tank from Old Navy
- Bottoms – Denim Bermudas/Cut offs from Torrid
- Flip flops – Guess
- Watch – Invicta
- Sunglasses – Maui Jim
- Necklace – And I always get a lot of questions about my Teddy Bear Necklace. Sadly I don’t know where it is from, my husband bought me this pendant before we had children, over 10 years ago. I have heard that some jewelers carry it – but I have not seen it at local stores.
For my makeup today… I really was aiming to bring Fall into my life, even if it meant I had to do my makeup like Fall was in full swing. lol I also have had my Tamanna palette now for a couple of weeks and each opportunity I have I try to play with new shade combinations and had a few in mind I wanted to pair today. Since I only really wear makeup once a week, I was sure gonna make sure to get some makeup lovin’ in.

Eye liner – Jordana 12 Hour Made to Last Eye Shadow Pencil in Tenacious Brown applied to lower waterline. Jordana 12 Hour Made to Last Liquid Eye Liner in Black Point applied to Tightline. Kat Von D Tattoo Liquid Liner in Trooper used to create my winged liner.
Mascara – Jordana Best Lash Volumizing Mascara layered with Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara
Lips – Jordana EZ Liner Lip liner in Cabaret topped with J.Cat’s Wonder Lip Paint in Queen of Hearts and layered with L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Daring.
No face makeup today… did I mention it was hot? Yup, that means no blush, bronzer… na da… too hot. lol
I’ve been working on a review for the Tamanna palette, and hope to have it up soon since I see that it is still available. It drives me nuts when things are limited edition and I have to run out and get them because I just have to have it, but that also means that by the time I have had it long enough for me to actually state my thoughts on the product… I don’t get around to it. Ooh – and on another note… have you seen my hair? I know these pictures don’t show it well, but I went dark again… I’m actually really diggin’ it.
This plus sized girl was all about comfort and cool today. I have been loving the Old Navy Tees and Tanks that they have been releasing lately and I’m all about a graphic tee if it means I can be comfortable. I love those types of shirts for underneath my slouchy sweaters especially… now if Fall can just make its way here so I can start using them. lol Wishing you all a wonderful Aloha Friday and a kick ass weekend.
