When I first set my eyes on this palette I didn’t think that I “needed” to have it.  But, let’s face it – I say that about every single makeup item I own and after waiting a week, sometimes two… I feel the “need to have it” fever come over me and I splurge.  There’s no secret that I am a huge Too Faced Cosmetics fan – Shadow insurance is my go-to HG (holy grail) product.  I use it consistently and have bought new ones many times.  So when Too Faced came out with this palette and it was filled with neutrals with a purple in there, I got over my “I don’t need it attitude” quickly and asked the hubby if I could get it.

The packaging wass probably one of the biggest selling points for me with regard to this palette.  It’s cute and not only represents the palette and the contents, but the theme itself is very prominent through out.  The palette is fairly sturdy, though I wish that it had a stronger magnetic closure.   The palette is a metal type / tin material that is a tad bit bulky – but nearly as bulky as palettes that Too Faced has come out with in the past.  I think this palette would be perfect for travel and should hold up well with packing in your carry-on or checked baggage.

Toofaced.com has this palette for sale for $49.00 (currently sold out on the site).  You can also purchase this on Sephora.com (that’s where I got mine) and Ulta.com as well as the freestanding stores for the same price.  There are 16 shades included in a variety of textures… matte and shimmer.  What I love so much about this palette is that it currently has what my other neutral palettes does not – it includes a purple.  While I would have hoped for a more matte purple shade, this sparkly purple will suffice and I love the palette’s color selection in a whole.  The palette comes with a Signature Too Faced Glamour Guide with three looks to get you started in using your palette and I love that the larger shades (White Chocolate & Champagne Truffle) are bigger so that you can use them both as an all over the lid shade or highlight.

The matte shades actually work really nicely.  They blend nicely which I like a lot – because mattes are not always easy to work with.  The shimmer shades that have micro-glitters in them tend to have a kind of gritty texture (Black Forest Truffle, Candied Violet and Cherry Cordial), but while it feels gritty on the fingers, when using on a brush and applying to the lid – it doesn’t feel gritty at all.  I love the colors regardless because it really holds the shimmer after applying.

I have included all of the swatches for each color in the palette.  All swatches are done on bare/dry skin without a base or primer and photographed in natural lighting – no flash was used.

The mattes in this palette are nicely pigmented which I like.  I really enjoy having a matte highlight shade in any palette so I love that it is offered here in the Chocolate Bar.  You can certainly create a wide range of looks from a daytime/work look to something worn at night or more on the smoky side.  If you are a “color addict” then this palette doesn’t offer you much selection with regard to colors (bright and bold ones) – but I think this is a great neutral palette for anyone, especially since it includes that purple shade I have been wanting in other neutrals in the past.

Strawberry Bon bon – while a nice shade to have in a palette of neutrals was probably not my favorite matte shade.  I felt like every time I tried to use it – it lightened to an almost white shade so it lost the color impact you see in the palette.  I would definitely suggest using Strawberry Bon bon over a pink base to intensify the shade so that you can see its true color.

Creme Brulee is probably one of my favorite shades… it applies easily like most metallic/shimmer shades do and the color impact is nice and bold with minimal fall out.  I found myself using the bottom row of shades a lot more than the rest of the palette (with exception to Champagne Truffle which I haven’t used much) because they seem to be easy to work with but also shades I gravitate to a lot in other palettes as well.

The 16 shadows are made with antioxidant-rich cocoa powder and the palette was inspired by their Chocolate Soleil Bronzer.  The shadows have a pretty good amount of product:

14 Eye Shadows Net Wt. 0.95 g / 0.03 Oz.  Total Net Wt. 13.3 g / 0.42 Oz. (Gilded Ganache, Milk Chocolate, Black Forest Truffle, Triple Fudge, Salted Caramel, Marzipan, Semi-Sweet, Strawberry Bon Bon, Candied Violet, Amaretto, Hazelnut, Creme Brulee, Haute Chocolate & Cherry Cordial)

2 Eye Shadows Net Wt. 2.8 g / 0.10 Oz.  Total Net Wt. 5.6 g / 0.20 Oz. (White Chocolate & Champagne Truffle)

Valentine's Day Makeup Tutorial - Cherry Truffle

For the look I have pictured, I used Champagne Truffle, Cherry Cordial, Creme Brulee, Haute Chocolate, Triple Fudge and White Chocolate.

While I am very much in love with this palette for what it offers as I mention in my Video Review I was not stoked or happy about the fact that the plastic sheet with the names on it was something I had to hold on to since the names are not printed on the palette itself.  It’s a pain in my butt and in the past with other palettes, I have always thrown that out – so it nags me a lot!  When creating looks – it drives me nuts to have to stop and look at the sheet so that I can write out the list of colors I used… this is a major fail to me and I may have to figure out a way to fix this myself.  The rest of the palette I think is showstopping… attention to detail was taken on every other aspect – including the scent of the shadows… yummy!

Check out my Video review below as I talk about the palette first hand with all of you.

Please give my video a thumbs up and subscribe if you enjoyed it!

So – tell me… are you a Chocolate lover?  Have you splurged and picked up the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette and if not… will you? I would love to know your thoughts 😉

  1. I actually decided not to get this palette, even though it looks amazing. I already have several nude/natural palettes, and this one would just be unnecessary.

    • I don’t blame you – I felt the same way but finally gave in. I haven’t been touching much of my other nudes, so I have vowed to rotate them all to give them all play time 😉

I want to try this palette out so bad! I may bite the bullet and buy it.

    • I said the same and finally caved in. I’m glad I did. Our sephora is so far – a two hour drive away, so I had to just pick it up – no swatching ahead of time. But it was worth it 😉

Love that eye look. That soft shimmer on your lid is such a great look on you – very sultry! Black Forest Truffle caught my attention immediately in the palette, and then that purple. Like you, I have a lot of purple makeup! lol.

  4. I love this palette. Great review. I’ve been wearing it the last couple days. Yesterday a matte look, today a shimmer. You’re right – that purple hue was what sold me, and the fact that the lid/brow colors were so big, those are the ones I use the most so I was sold on the value!

    • SWEET! I’m glad you picked it up and you love it. I haven’t touched my UD Naked 3 since I got it – it’s been a favorite of mine 🙂

  5. I’m dying over the purples. LOVE it!! You are such an enabler…<3

    • LMAO – omigosh, my girlfriend just called me that the other day. She asked me… which I would suggest – I told her both, she said she was not going to talk to me anymore because I enable her. lol
