Hello party people.  It seems like I’ve been a little MIA this week, but I promise I have good reason as to why.  You see, all three of my boys are on Spring Break, so that basically means mommy is on break too so we’ve been busy spring cleaning the house, donating and having lots of fun.  So, I’ve taken a little break from the blog a few days this week to play and have some fun with my family.  Nonetheless though, I wanted to share with you some products I’ve been loving from Jordana Cosmetics.  The Contour N’ Highlight Sticks are new to me, having just come across them about 2 weeks ago at my local drugstore, but the Sweet Cream Matte Liquid Lipsticks are a formula I know about and I was so excited to get my hands on some shades that are wearable.  (You can read about my review on these from last year, here)

Let’s talk about the Contour N’ Highlight Sticks.  These retail for $4.99 each and you can select from the Jordana Sculpt N’ Go Creamy Contour Stick which offers three different contour shades (Light, Medium and Deep) and come in an easy to use stick form.  The Contour sticks help you add shape and definition to your features in 30 seconds or less.  What makes these so fun is that they are mistake-proof, blendable and matte with a buildable formula for soft to glam looks.  I have it in the color Deep, which is actually darker than I had thought but it blends out so well, the darker color works for my skin tone.

I use the Contour stick and apply below my cheekbones, jawline, hairline and sides of my nose.  While the tip of this stick is pointed for great precision, after lots of use I’m sure it will take away the point but applying the product is still easy.  I have been loving how easy this product is to blend out and the way it feels on my skin is wonderful.  It has a kind of cream to powder texture.  After applying, I blend it out to a powder like finish so it doesn’t feel heavy or cakey on the skin and I don’t notice that it oxidizes or looks too heavy.  I love how light weight it feels and I’m very amazed at how much I’m enjoying this stick.  It’s perfect for daily use for light contouring or for a full blown glammed up look.

The Jordana Glow N’ Go Creamy Strobing Stick also comes in three shades – Pearl Glow, Champagne, and Gold.  I have Champagne (Radiant Glow) and have really been loving this product as much as the contour stick.  This product is the perfect creamy and blendable highlighter stick that melts flawlessly onto the skin for a mistake proof application.  You can use this product to create the perfect strobe or for a light and subtle highlight for everyday use.  Like the Contour Stick, the Creamy Strobing Stick is also creamy and blends out to a powder like finish.

This product can be applied above the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, center of the forehead and below and above lips to add glow where desired.  It’s also easily blended with your fingers.  It doesn’t feel heavy or too creamy and I haven’t noticed any creasing.  It’s perfect to use on it’s own or set with a powder highlight.

Each product offers a Net Wt. of 0.23 oz / 6.5 g so for the price point you get a lot of product to use and it’s easy to repurchase when it’s used up.

Jordana is one of my favorite drugstore cosmetic brands and I thought these would be something fun to use, but I didn’t realize I would like it as much as I did.  I’m really impressed – especially because of the price point and how well they performed considering its cost.

Now let’s talk about the Sweet Cream Matte Liquid Lip Colors.  These retail for $4.99 and as I mentioned previously, I actually have a review on my blog with a few of the shades.  The bright pink, coral and purple shade I got last year are definitely not my daily wearers so I had been on a hunt now for a while in hopes of finding more neutral tones at my local stores to add to my collection.

I found four gorgeous shades that are wearable every day tones in nude pinks and browns that I just love.  So, while I did provide a review for you on these lippies initially last year, today I’m sharing swatches of these colors.  If you are looking for wearable shades that are comfortable on the lips – I definitely suggest picking these babies up.

I picked up the following colors:  Rose Macaron, Creme Brulee, Tiramisu and Cinnamon Toast.  Cinnamon Toast a new color added to the line not too long ago, but the other three were a part of the collection, though I just couldn’t get my hands on them.  I had been on the hunt for Creme Brulee for months now and I’m so glad I found it at Walgreens a few weeks ago.

I love these shades because they are not only wearable but these matte lipsticks are one of my most comfortable to wear.  They are creamy when applied and while they dry down to a matte finish, I find that my lips do not feel overly dry.  They are creamy and feel almost whipped like when applying to the lips and I just love their longevity.  Jordana has a variety of colors from bold and red to nudes and pinks so you really get a lot of lip colors to choose from.  They also have the same type of doe foot applicator that the others I reviewed have and I enjoy them.

These colors stay on for hours – they claim it’s a 16 Hour Wear time and I can get at least 10 hours without any budging.  They are infused with Vitamin A, made in the USA and are water resistant.  What I love is that you get 12 gorgeous shades for any and all skin tones.

The video below is my original review of the Jordana Sweet Creme Matte Liquid Lipsticks, but I thought I would include it anyway.  My thoughts haven’t changed at all with these lippies.

Honestly, I’m always impressed with Jordana products.  There’s a reason why most of their products are a part of my collection – I enjoy them and like them.  If you are someone like me that loves a no-fuss kind of makeup look, you’ll surely love how easy these products are to use.  I definitely suggest checking them out if you haven’t already and see how they fit in your every day makeup routine.

You can purchase these products at: https://www.jordanacosmetics.com or at select drugstores that sell these products.  I got mine at Walgreens.

So – what about you, have you tried any of these before?  I’d love to hear your thoughts on them if you have or if not, do you think you’d get any use out of these beauties?

After being in the Beauty Industry for quite a bit of years, I have seen makeup trends come and go and others return like hot cakes smothered in syrup.  Did I just say that?  Yes – because I’m craving hot cakes… but regardless, like all things popular – some stick around and stand the tests of time while others may disappear or die down a bit only to make another appearance and become popular once again.   In the course of the last year, I have seen techniques used in the beauty industry years before that are now making a comeback, like contouring, strobing (exaggerated highlighting) and now baking.  These techniques that were once used only for special occasions or typically for Television, Runway and Shows is now making its way to the forefront.  I remember a time when “Baking, Strobing and Contouring” was what I used to make over my Drag Community friends and now I see it everywhere and becoming a popular technique used for every day.  While it’s not something I would use daily, I think it is still a useful technique and can be used for great purpose.  Today we are talking all about baking makeup, so grab a cup of joe (or a plate of hot cakes & syrup) and let’s chit chat about it.

The Baking Makeup Technique - Bake Your Face In 5 Easy Steps

Today I am going to share with you some quick tips on the baking makeup technique and how to do it.  But first, let’s find out what the heck this “baking” is all about.  Baking is a technique of highlighting and setting your makeup to give it a glow that is flawless but without a shimmer or glittery effect that you would typically get from regular highlight (like strobing).  Baking allows the wearer to to give your face an illuminated/brightened appearance that will last and not crease with a matte finish.  Here are my tips on what to do… follow along and try it for yourself.

The Baking Makeup Technique - Bake Your Face In 5 Easy Steps

Products you need:

While baking can technically be done with any type of cosmetics you have on hand, I’m using these from Amazing Cosmetics which you can find at Ulta Beauty.

  • Moisturizer or eye cream
  • Concealer – if you are particularly looking for a brighter under eye look, a concealer lighter than your skin tone is best – by a few shades.
  • Beauty Blender
  • Cosmetic sponge
  • Translucent Powder – loose works well, but use what you have.  I’m using a pressed powder
  • fluffy brush – used to apply the translucent sponge and to swipe the excess powder away
  • Setting Spray or mineral mist

Steps to baking:

  1. HYDRATE: Since this technique will leave you with a matte finish – it is essential that you hydrate and moisturize accordingly.  I have really dry skin so I make sure to hydrate my under eyes so that the extra powder you are using does not settle into any wrinkles or under eye circles.
  2. Apply your concealer to your under eyes.  I like to make sure I’m applying my concealer (preferably something creamy or liquid like so it blends easily) in a upside down triangle shape.  Using your damp cosmetic sponge, blend the product out so that it is evenly distributed – blending effortlessly.  A creamy or thick concealer works best.  Try Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer – I used the one in Light Caramel.
  3. Using your translucent powder – apply over the concealer with a fluffy brush.  My favorite to use is my MAC 109 which will pack the color on and blend at the same time. The key here is to make sure you have enough powder to apply to your face where your concealer is.
  4. Bake / Cook your makeup!  Using a wedge or cosmetic sponge, dampen with a setting spray or mineral mist and then dip the sponge into your translucent powder.  Pack the loose powder generously over the area that you applied with your concealer.  If you are using a pressed compact, you may need to tap your brush into the product a lot to pick up product.  Wait 5 – 10 minutes while the powder sits and bakes.  During this time I like to start working on my eye makeup.  For the translucent powder I used Amazing Cosmetics Velvet Mineral Powder Set.
  5. With a fluffy brush, simply dust off the product on the face while blending to set your makeup.

The Baking Makeup Technique - Bake Your Face In 5 Easy Steps

When the baking is done and your makeup is complete, you’ll notice that you will not only have a flawless finish to your makeup application, but also have a highlighted appearance under eyes without that shimmery effect you can get from a glittery illuminator.  What I love about looks like these is that they give you that glowy appearance.  You can find all the products I mentioned at Ultabeauty.com. What’s great about makeup and makeup trends is that you decide what works for you and what doesn’t. Have fun with it, dress up and enjoy it!

Have you tried the baking / cooking makeup technique before? If so, will you be using this to strut your stuff this Fall and Winter season?  I look forward to seeing your recreations and looks so be sure to post a photo of your flawless look. #ultatrendalert #StyleHunters4Ulta

I have always been a pretty big fan of Wet n Wild and I’m always checking out their products if they catch my eye.  A few weeks ago, I came across a display in Walgreens that offered these Wet n Wild Fergie Centerstage Shimmer Palettes in two shades that I have not seen a part of their permanent collection.  I’m still not sure if they are Limited Edition, but consider them so since the girl at Walgreens said that they were not getting them back – once sold out, they were gone.  Since they may possible be an LE, I figured I would share them with all of you as quickly as possible so you have the opportunity to go out and get them if you can.

wet n wild center stage shimmer powders

These face powders from Wet n Wild retailed at Walgreens for $6.99 and also included a kabuki brush.  While sold separately – I considered it to be a pretty reasonable price, especially since these powders retail for about $6.99 – $8.99 at my local stores here on Maui.  I have never seen these before anywhere in other stores and noticed how different they were to the other three that are included in Wet n Wild’s permanent Fergie collection.

Check out my review video and live demo embedded below or click here to watch it directly on YouTube.

Wet n Wild Centerstage Shimmer Palette Video Bomb

The first palette I tried out was Video Bomb.  This palette has a pretty cool marbleized look to it like the other To Reflect Shimmer Palettes that are permanent in the Centerstage collection from Fergie.  It has a blend of a soft pink, chocolate brown and soft brown and when blended together, it has a soft pinkish brown that works really well as a blush/cheek shade.  I loved this palette, but because it is a bit on the powdery side, it can leave your skin looking ashy or muddy – especially if you use too much of it.  A little goes a long way – so tap off the excess from your brush before applying and sweep gently on your cheeks for a soft and sweet summery color.

Wet n Wild Centerstage Shimmer Palette Video Bomb

What I love about this palette the most is that it is perfect on those days you are looking for a little color – but are not keen on truly using a blush or bronzer.  It will give you a slight bronzed look with a soft pink hue without going overboard.  Keep in mind that the palette has a golden sheen to it – so it can look a bit sparkly and shimmery on the skin if you put too much – again, a light hand is key.

Wet n Wild Centerstage Shimmer Palette Video Bomb

The next palette I tried out was Photo Bomb.  This one automatically caught my eye in the store because it is VERY different from the original three Shimmer Palettes Wet n Wild offers.  It is all one shade, golden and what I thought would be perfect for highlight.

Wet n Wild Centerstage Shimmer Palette Photo Bomb

This palette offers a gold sheen, soft but still packs a punch of color.  While this is great for a highlight – a little of this product definitely goes a long way.  Like Video Bomb, this can offer a powdery texture, but blends nicely if you are looking for a great highlight.  I love how both of these powders feel really nice – even when blended on the skin, it feels soft and both palettes are super pigmented.

Wet n Wild Centerstage Shimmer Palette Photo Bomb

I think that the Photo Bomb would work well on light and dark skin tones and in most skin tone shades.  I was very amazed to see how nicely it looked against my skin and how it offered me a great glow but can see how nice it would work for someone with cool toned skin as well.

Wet n Wild Centerstage Shimmer Palette Photo Bomb

There is a lot of product in each palette – 0.4 oz / 11.3 g and I know that a little will go a long way so considering the cost of these palettes, you are getting a great deal for a very affordable price tag.  I have read reviews and seen videos on the packaging for the original Shimmer Palettes where it fell apart for some and honestly, I have dropped mine a few times and they have stayed in tact reasonably well.  The only thing that worries me is that I may drop it really hard one day and the actual powder will crack – but so far, so good.

Wet n Wild Centerstage Shimmer Palette Photo Bomb

Now the one downfall for these sets is the Kabuki brush that is offered with it.  I think it is great that Wet n Wild included a Kabuki brush with each of these but after washing one of them, the quality and brush in general was a fail for me.  While washing, the kabuki brush shed a lot and during the first use, I felt like the brush was quite rough on my skin.  The brush hair felt soft at first but with use, it was uncomfortable and continued to shed.  Ultimately – that was not a great selling point for the kit, but it also allowed the powders to stand alone.

Check out your local Walgreens and see if these are in stock.  I haven’t tried any of the permanent line shimmer palettes, so I honestly don’t know how they would compare and if these have a different texture.  If you are on a budget and interested in trying something fun for the summer months – this may be something you will like.  Overall – well I’m not too keen on the shimmer these palettes offer, they are still pretty cool and I’ll make use of them for sure.  Don’t forget to check out my video review along with demo on how these look directly on the skin – you can find that video here.
