My family and I found yourself dining in at Poi By The Pound restaurant the other day.  It had been almost a year since we last ate there, having eaten at this restaurant for the first time the night of my father’s funeral services.  It turns out we were back there again because we had scattered my dad’s ashes a day before and my cousin who was visiting for that event was craving some ‘ono (means delicious in Hawaiian) grinds.  I’ve eaten a few select things from Poi By The Pound before, but there was little on the menu I have tried, so I was eager to taste some of their popular menu items.  Most of the reviews on Yelp and Google were very positive so I decided I would order a few things I saw mentioned in those reviews and test them out for myself.

Poi By The Pound is just 5 short minutes away from the Kahului Airport so it’s perfect for stopping off when you land on Maui or on while on your way to your next destination.  They are open 7 days a week and they take walk-ins which is great.  If you have a party of 6 or more, I definitely suggest calling ahead to make a reservation.  Whether it is dine-in, take-out or catering, they have a variety of selections for you to choose from so that’s a great option for that party you’re planning or to grab a speedy bite to eat.

Poi By The Pound started as a small little restaurant in the industrial area of Kahului and now reside in the old Denny’s Restaurant location.  I haven’t eaten or dined in at their Kahului Industrial location, but I think the old Denny’s location is perfect for them.  During our two visits (last year and the other day), the restaurant was packed, so you know it’s a local favorite here on Maui.  Through their love of Hawaiian food, Poi By The Pound is now a popular eatery here on the island.

So, I know you’re waiting to find out about the dishes we tried out, right?  Let’s dive into those, shall we?

I wanted to start off with the Deep Fried Lau Lau.  Yes, I said deep fried.  I didn’t see this on the menu, but since reading the reviews on Yelp, I knew about it.  I was so interested in trying it out so I had to order it (even if I didn’t eat it all).

The deep friend lau lau is basically a lau lau (pork wrapped in taro leaves and lightly flavored with Hawaiian salt.  It is slowly steamed to absolute perfection) that is breaded/battered with panko breadcrumbs and deep fried.  Considering it was deep fried, it was not as heavy as you would have thought it would be.  Honestly, lau lau is really heavy on its own and I felt that the breading didn’t make it too overwhelming.  If you like lau lau, you definitely have to check it out and see for yourself.

A definite favorite for any local here is a Hawaii staple known as the Loco Moco.  Poi By The Pound’s Loco Moco includes three homemade patties grilled with onions and served with rice and macaroni salad (you can choose green salad if you prefer that instead).  The patties are topped with 2 eggs cooked in the style of your choosing (we always get over easy – because a runny egg mixed with all of it, is well… the best) and a generous pour of brown gravy.  If you’ve never had a Loco Moco before, you must try it, it’s definitely a go-to here.  The patties were filled with flavor, the gravy was great and the egg, well – as soon as you brook the yolk, it spread all over the dish which is what we liked.  Served hot and delicious.

A mix on the Loco Moco is their Chicken Katsu Moco.  I LOVE a great Chicken Katsu Cutlet Moco (one of my favorite food choices anywhere) and I was so excited to try this one from Poi By The Pound.  I requested Pork Gravy instead of their standard brown gravy and of course got my eggs over-easy.  The chicken was cooked well and I loved the flavor of everything.  Of course, since I don’t eat rice anymore, I opted for green salad as my side.  I definitely was happy with this meal, even if I didn’t eat all of it.  Did I mention their portion sizes were huge?  The Chicken Katsu Cutlet Moco is not on the menu, so be sure to ask for it personally if you want to give it a try.

I did mention that Poi By The Pound is known as the “Authentic Hawaiian Food Restaurant” and while some may think the other foods I mentioned were “authentic”, they are really just local favorites that you can get here in Hawaii.  So, I just had to share the beautiful display of Hawaiian food you can get with the Hawaiian Plate combo.  My gosh, it includes so much food, you will surely be full before you leave.  And, if you have never tried any Hawaiian food before, this would be a great way to check it out.  Included in this combo is:  Kalua pork, pork lau lau, chicken long rice (which is like a soup with chicken and rice noodles), lomi salmon (which is salmon, tomatoes and onion mixed together.  Lomi in Hawaiian basically means to massage.  Therefore, it is the salmon and other ingredients massaged together so the flavors mesh), poi, rice and mac salad.  On the bottom, you see a green baby food like consistency which is the squid luau.  That is one of my favorite dishes here.  It’s basically squid and taro leaf simmered in coconut milk and brown sugar.

maui eats, food, maui eateries, food places, restaurants, hawaiian food, poi by the pound, hawaiian food restaurants, maui life,

The Poke Bowl is a popular choice here in Hawaii and many locals will grab it and go.  Poi By The Pound has their own version of a Poke Bowl which includes your choice of shoyu or spicy poke (or combination of both) and served over steaming white rice with a sprinkle of furikake (seaweed and sesame seasoning).  Fresh ahi poke is definitely something that you must try and this one was delish.

You didn’t think we left out dessert, did you?  Well, considering the portion sizes you get from this eatery, you could easily skip dessert and be extremely full.  But we packed up our leftovers and ordered some popular yummies.  The boys shared the Mud Pie (it was so big all three of them ate it together).  The mud pie consists of a Kona Mud pie ice cream bedded on an oreo cookie crust and topped with whipped cream, chocolate, and caramel drizzle.  It was so good that the boys said they were gonna order it the next time we came to eat here.

maui eats, food, maui eateries, food places, restaurants, hawaiian food, poi by the pound, hawaiian food restaurants, maui life,

I went with the Taro Sundae.  Come on, taro, poi, and coconut in one dish… anyone that knows me knows that I would jump to that opportunity in a heartbeat.  The Taro Sundae originally comes with haupia (coconut) ice cream, taro chunks, poi, drizzled with chocolate, caramel syrup and topped with whipped cream and almonds.  I opted to be a purist and go the haupia ice cream with taro chunks and poi only (which is what is pictured above).

I seriously fell in love with this dish after the first bite.  This dessert seriously satisfied exactly what I would expect from a Taro Sundae and I definitely suggest checking it out… seriously!

The cost of the plates and desserts at Poi By The Pound are reasonably priced and you surely get your monies worth in every possible way.  You will not leave this restaurant hungry, that’s for sure.  Our server was a delight and very sweet and the last time we dined here (last year) we experienced the same kind and sweet service from that server as well.  Food comes to the table hot and you will definitely enjoy a great meal here.    If you are looking to satisfy your hunger with some local grinds or want a Hawaiian food mix, I definitely suggest checking them out.  You’ll enjoy their food and be sure to share because you’ll have enough to share with a friend.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone.  I hope you’re all enjoying your day and gearing up for a great weekend.  I’m super excited because my three boys have officially started their Spring Break, so that means I get to sleep in an extra hour and have a full day to have lots of fun with them.  Today, I wanted to share with you another Maui Eats food establishment that I’ve been loving lately.  When it comes to Food Trucks, Maui seems to be seeing a huge increase of them around the island.  I think Food trucks are not only fun and unique, but give a chef a chance to create delicious food while still offering it at a reasonable cost to consumers like myself.  A month or so ago I found myself journeying over to the Food Truck site off of Old Haleakala Highway (across from Costco’s Gas Station) and I have found these places to be some of my favorites to eat at.  Today, I’ll be sharing with you Wayne’s Sushi Fresh Off The Boat Food Truck and my thoughts on the grinds I had a chance to try there.

Wayne's Sushi, Maui eats, Maui, Fresh off the boat food truck, wayne's sushi food truck, food truck, restaurant review, maui eatery, maui food, sushi, fish, seafood, fresh seafood,

Wayne’s Sushi used to be in Haiku and off of Honoapi’ilani Highway previously, but has since moved to the Food Truck Lot across from Costco’s Gas Station.  What is so cool about this food truck is it utilizes a boat, a real boat – named Fresh Off The Boat.  The boat is sitting on a boat trailer and has been repurposed into a food truck.  Owned and operated by Wayne Miyahira, this food truck is becoming one of my favorite spots to grab a bite to eat.

It’s pretty obvious that when it comes to seafood, my family and I love to eat it and we want it as fresh as we can possibly get it.  I’ll be honest, when I heard some of the raves for this little food truck, I thought to myself – hmmm… how could a food truck offer fresh fish?  This certainly couldn’t be, in my humble opinion.  Then, I found myself at the food truck location and decided I would give it a try.

With selections like Shrimp Tempura, Steak and Shrimp plate, King Salmon, Grilled Shrimp Salad and fresh Ahi, Mahimahi and Hamachi, I was definitely excited to try the various selections of seafood.  I tried the Nigiri Sushi (pictured above) which my sons loved and the fish was fresh, tasty and definitely worth the try.  One of my favorites is the Hawaii Goes Fishing roll (pictured with the nigiri above) which is a soft shelled crab and spicy tuna roll that is topped with spicy crab, cajun escolar and avocado.  It’s served with a creamy eel sauce ($16.00).

Out of all the sushi rolls, I think the Itsy Bitsy Spider Roll is my favorite.  If you are a fan of soft shell crab, you’ll absolutely love this roll.  The soft shell crab fills the entire roll and it’s beautifully created.  Lots of flavor, a ton of seafood and stuffed to perfection. It’s probably my favorite that I’ve eaten out of the sushi rolls I’ve tried.

We also tried the tempura spicy tuna roll (which my sons loved and devoured).  This sushi is a spicy tuna and cucumber roll that is prepared tempura style, sliced and served. ($10.00)

Sushi is not the only thing that Fresh Off the Boat offers.  They have a wide range of fish plates that I had the opportunity to try as well.  If you are a fan of fresh Ahi – you’ll surely enjoy the Ahi Belly Plate ($12.00).  The plate comes with several pieces of Ahi belly, rice, spring greens with their sesame dressing and seasoned cucumbers.

But, one of my favorite plates is the Go Fish Combo ($16.00) which offers you ahi belly, miso walu and tempura mahimahi served with rice, their spring salad mix and sesame dressing as well as the seasoned cucumbers.  It’s delicious and you get a lot of food for the price.

Whether you are looking for fresh seafood, delicious fish and sushi or steak – Wayne’s Sushi Fresh Off The Boat has you covered.  Since they are located in the Food Truck Lot across from the Costco Gas Station, there really is a lot of parking.  You are looking at about a 10 – 20 minute wait depending on the number of people ahead of you, but keep in mind that everything is made to order – including your sushi.  You get it fresh, so the wait is well worth it.

The Food Truck Lot offers seating as well as other trucks that you can choose from (I’ll be featuring more here in the next few weeks) and you can always call ahead to place your order from Wayne’s Sushi if you can’t wait.  What’s so great about this location and the fact that you’re eating at a food truck, is that it’s casual dining.  You could be dressed up or wearing a bikini and can still enjoy a great meal.

I have had nothing but great service at Wayne’s Sushi Fresh Off The Boat.  I’m always greeted by name and the food I get is consistently delicious, fresh and presented well. Wayne aims to avoid the same old sushi that other bars make and recreate them, taking the flavors and the look to another level.  I’m definitely impressed and always look forward to ordering my next meal at this truck.

Did I mention that this cool truck is shaped like a boat?  A very cool fishing boat turned food truck with a fun design and I just love the overall appeal of it all.  The ingredients and quality of seafood is always on par and if you are looking for casual dining – this is definitely someplace you should check out.

Note that this is not fine dining – it is a food truck after all.  Call ahead at: 808-281-8810

I hope you enjoyed this post and my Maui Eats series.  I’ll have more posted soon.

As a foodie, I do my best to sample different types of cuisines as well as different restaurants, eateries and other food loves that I can taste and share with all of you.  Today on this Foodie Friday, I am excited to share with you a little place I discovered after watching the YouTube Channel Aloha Stoked.  Kalani Prince, a vlogger and Travel Guide website owner visited the location I’m about to talk about today and I knew I had to head on over and take a look.  This little hole-in-the wall location that is just off the beaten path in a sleepy little town in Up Country Maui, called Makawao is worth sharing with you today.  This week’s Maui Eats is featuring Makawao Garden Cafe.

Makawao Garden Cafe is owned and operated by Kathi and Jody Sparks and is nestled right in the heart of the paniolo and rodeo town of up country that we call Makawao.  A peaceful, laid back and tranquil little bistro that offers a small menu of sandwiches and salads – perfect for a day of venturing and visiting the art galleries and site seeing among the little village.

Makawao Garden Cafe is located right on Baldwin Avenue.  It’s next to the Sherri Reeve Gallery (down a small alley way) and across the street from Maui’s famed Komoda Bakery.

I arrived at the location just as they had opened, about 5 minutes after 11 o’clock.  They were still prepping some of their food, which I would have expected for a small bistro, but I was able to place my order and my food took about 10 minutes to complete.  As I waited for my to-go order, I walked around the immediate area to kind of get an idea of what the place is like for those who decide to dine in.  Majority of the seating for this bistro is located outdoors.  I was told recently that they had acquired a small area with indoor seating just off to the site of the cafe area.  It’s a great location for spring and summer months when it’s warm out, but it was quite chilly the day I went, which is why I opted to get my food to go – I was not dressed to sit out in the open with that cold breeze lingering in the air.

If you are looking for fast food service or quick food, this is certainly not the place you will want to find yourself.  Everyone is made for you to order and there is a staff of 2-3 on hand on any given day.  If you are in a rush, I suggest trying to call your order in or check to see if they’ll accommodate a take-out that day.  The service I received was sweet, the owner greeted me with kindness and everyone that I talked to that day was very pleasant.

So, let’s talk about the food.  Whenever I eat somewhere and have thoughts of reviewing the establishment here on the site, I try to order more than one meal to test and see how I like each.  I ordered the Crab & Avocado Sandwich ($9.97 whole).  Served on focaccia and mixed greens with tomato and sprouts.  I also got the Curry Chicken Salad (Whole $9.00) which came highly recommended by a customer that was behind me in line, as well as the gal who took my order.  She mentioned that it is the most popular on their menu.  The Curry Chicken Salad came with diced chicken, carrots, zucchini and served with sweet curry dressing, on mixed greens and topped with papaya.

Let’s talk details on each dish – shall we?

I was happy to find that the Crab and Avocado came with a side of salad.  I opted for ceasar and while it was tasty – it definitely was not the showstopper of this particular sandwich.  If I can be absolutely blunt here… the focaccia is fricken awesome.  It was fresh baked (baked by the owners) and one of the best focaccia breads I have ever tasted and trust when I say – I have had my fair share of focaccia.  It was delicious.  The avocado was fresh as was the rest of the vegetables in my sandwich.  The crab was light and definitely tasted good.  I was impressed that my sandwich included real crab for the price point and the sandwich was very filling.  If you are doing hiking or anything that will require walking, etc. I think this would be a great selection – light, but hearty.

Should I get a sandwich again, I’ll be trying the Sliced Turkey Breast, but since it’s not on this delicious focaccia bread, I’m not sure I’d enjoy it as much – we shall see.

Next up I tried the Curry Chicken Salad.  This salad is quite big and filled most of the take out container they put it in.  I ate half of it and saved the rest for my eldest son Kevin Kaeo.  When I opened this salad to eat it, I didn’t quite expect to see what I was looking at.

This portion size (I ordered the whole) was large enough to feet at least 2 people, especially if you purchased it in combination with other food.  I was quite impressed with the size considering the price point.  The diced chicken was chicken breast, but it was very tender considering the cut it was.  I was quite impressed with how the entire salad in a whole had tasted.  The dressing that they used was very tasty and I liked that the salad didn’t taste like it had taken a bath in mayonnaise (we all know how I’m not a fan of that creamy white stuff).  The dressing was sweet (not hot or spicy at all) but definitely had a curry flavor.  I would describe it as a curry without the heat.  The salad was placed on a bed of greens – a mixture of different lettuce that was fresh and crispy and I also got two toasted pieces of crostini on top.  This salad tasted really good and not soggy considering I had to drive 10 minutes to get home to eat it, but I would definitely suggest putting the bread separately because the dressing did cause it to become a tad bit soggy.

Makawao Garden Cafe, Baldwin Avenue, makawao, maui, maui eats, food, restaurant review, up country maui, up country, paniolo, good eats, food, dive bar, hole in the wall restaurant, maui eats food, food porn, food review, foodie,

Overall – I think I really enjoyed the salad.  The vegetables definitely tasted fresh and the nice crunch of the carrots definitely gave it a lot of texture.  The little papaya on the top was delicious and really gave the salad an extra something.  If I had to make any suggestions, I would love to see cashews in the mix for this salad – I think it would make it absolutely perfect.  I make a pretty darn good chicken curry salad myself and that papaya though, it definitely made for a great addition to this dish.

The second time I went to grab some food to go, I ordered the Taro Salad ($9.75 Whole – I really wanted to eat that from the first time I had gone) and the Catch of the Day Sandwich ($8.50 Whole).  Service was quick and I was on my way with my sandwiches and a Nirvana smoothie that I ordered.  The smoothies are $5.50 and are not made with milk which is a plus on my tummy.

The Taro Salad was simple, but I rather enjoyed it.  I got it regular (not Cajun spice which they also offer) and it was served with mixed greens, cheese (I was able to select between goat cheese and Parmesan, I went with goat cheese), carrots and zucchini.  The salad also came with tomato and was dressed with a light basil vinaigrette topped with crispy taro chips.  Here’s the low down on this salad…  the taro chips, well, they were the ones I buy in the bag at Costco but I enjoy them and never would have thought to put them on a salad – they were great and because of the taro, they held up to the dressing and were not soggy when I got home to eat.  The Taro itself is actually veggie patties diced up and the veggie patties of chunks of taro in them.  When I was first told what it was, I’ll be honest, I had regret ordering it.  I thought to myself, hmmm… why couldn’t I just get chunks of taro in my salad?  But, I was pleasantly surprised.  The veggie patty (which was diced/cubed up and tossed in the salad mix) was really good.  There was a lot of taro in that patty and I enjoyed the flavor.  Because of the veggie patty with taro, I think it lent for a lighter meal and with the actual taro cubed up as I suggested, it may have been too heavy for lunch.  While I didn’t have high hopes for this particular salad after being told what it was, I was pleasantly surprised.  If I had to make one suggestion, it would be to add some avocado in the mix… it would really bring out the sweetness of the taro and give the salad a depth of flavor.

The Catch of the Day sandwich was simplistic as was the Crab and Avocado.  It was a few pieces of their Catch of the Day which was Mahimahi for me today, served on focaccia and a wasabi mayo with tomato and mixed greens and sprouts.  The taste was really nice, but I would have loved to have more to the sandwich.  The wasabi mayonnaise had a light wasabi flavor, with no heat and it looked like regular mayonnaise, so tasting it was the only way to really know what you were eating.

The cut of fish was nice, but I definitely would have wanted to have more to the sandwich.  Of course, it was on that delicious focaccia that I’ve been swooning over which made it great.  Overall, I think the sandwich is nice, but I would love to get more from it.  Maybe a smear of pesto aioli or something along those lines to really bring out the flavor of the fish.  Even some avocado would make a different here.

Makawao Garden Cafe is perfect to grab a meal while out exploring the area but keep in mind that due to limited seating, if they get busy – you may want to get that meal to go.  My overall experience with them has been great, and I know I’ll be back again to try more food – I have my eyes set on many of the items on the menu.  If you are looking for fine dining, then this place is definitely not it.

Makawao Garden Cafe is open from 11am to 3pm, Monday through Saturday (closed Sundays).  They do not take reservations and parking is free.  You can park directly on Baldwin Avenue if you can find a stall (it can get really congested and busy at times) or you can use the Garden parking behind Baldwin Avenue in the open parking lot (it’s a walk up stairs and there is no wheelchair access)  Keep in mind that the back parking lot is gravel and the walk up the stairs is several flights.

Positives – there are quite a bit in my opinion.  All of the menu items are under $10 so you and a friend could easily get a bite to eat for under $25.  Considering I’m born & raised here on Maui and have seen how expensive things can get, that’s quite a steal considering the amount of food you get with your orders.  The focaccia is bomb.  Like seriously I can’t stress this enough, order a sandwich with it to taste how great it is.  The owner and staff were very delightful and friendly.  Parking is free -which is great.  And, most of your options are healthy and fresh.

Now – there are a few cons to this location that I figured was worth sharing.  While I didn’t experience dine-in service here, I was told by someone there that service can be slow when they are busy.  I think that’s understandable considering that there are only 3 people working (sometimes one or two) at any given time and I honestly can’t attest to that myself seeing as the two times I went, they had just opened, so there really was only one or two people there.  Remember, as I stated previously, if you’re in a rush – get it to go and call ahead.  If it is raining or cold, even if they have a covered seated area that is indoors, you may not like the experience, so keep that in mind.  The first time I picked up my food, it was chilly and very cold.  I wouldn’t have been able to sit and enjoy my food comfortably.  Roosters are everywhere in that area (it’s a part of Makawao town) so it can be frustrating at times, just don’t feed them because they’ll come around more while you’re eating.

If you’re on the hunt for something interesting to try – I definitely suggest checking this place out.  I’m all for supporting local eats and Maui eateries that are owned by locals so I definitely enjoyed it.  They offer smoothies as well and there is quite a selection which is great.  This place offers a true laid back environment so it’s perfect for those that are looking for something casual.  Also – take note that if you’re walking too fast, you may miss it… so this little place gives you the opportunity to “take the long way home” so to say and stop and smell the roses.

My goal is to offer more “Maui Eats” for my readers near and far so be sure to come back for more.

Have a wonderful Aloha Friday and a great weekend,

Signature Honey

Crispy Green believes in a simple philosophy – keep it pure, keep it tasty and keep it wholesome.  My sons were immediately excited to see these delivered and crossed their fingers in hopes that it didn’t taste like the traditional freeze-dried fruit you get in the store that tastes like it’s 40 years old.  We were able to try out 7 delectable and delicious types of dried fruit, packaged individually – making them great snacks for on the go.  The seven flavors available are:  Cataloupe, Apple, Asian Pear (our favorite), Tangerine, Pineapple, Mango (second favorite) and Banana.  All of them taste delicious, but the boys and I do have our favorites.  Each package includes 100% pure fruit, nothing else!  The Crispy Fruit snacks are 100% freeze-dried fruit slices that are made up of real fruit and the taste of Crispy Fruit comes from the fresh fruit itself.  There is no sugar, sweeteners or other additives used to enhance the taste or appearance.  Crispy Fruit is perfect for indulging in a guilt-free snack without the worry.  The Crispy Fruit snacks are an all-natural snack choice for anyone looking to live a healthier lifestyle without compromising on great taste.

Crispy Green was founded in August 2004 with a vision to be the leading provider of high quality, natural food products desired by everyone who wants to live a healthy and better life.  Since that time, the team at Crispy Green has been consistently providing high quality freeze-dried fruit snacks and adding new flavors to the Crispy Fruit line.  They are a hard-working, diverse group of individuals who believe that educated customers are the best customers and they strive to empower all who enjoy their products.

As I mentioned before, the Asian Pear is one of our favorites and the Mango definitely a close second, though my family and I enjoy all of them.  Each piece of fruit you bite into has the flavor that you would expect them to have and the snack is light but fulfilling.  We love how travel friendly and portable each pouch is.  We absolutely loved the taste of each fruit snack that they didn’t last very long in our household and we picked up a bunch of them to give to the twins’ classmates for Halloween.

What we love about Crispy Fruit the most is the quality that goes into each bag.  Sometimes fresh fruit may not be available or may not be the most convenient option.  But, Crispy Green has perfected the “fruit to go” alternative by freeze-drying fresh fruit and transforming it into a delectable, incredible, light and crispy texture that is so satisfying, it reminds me of a chip.  With the freeze-dried process – the nutrients from the fresh fruit is retained without adding anything.  As a mom – I am always looking for the healthy alternative to snacks and I’m loving the fact that my children enjoy these just as much as I do.

Crispy Fruit has easily become one of my family’s favorite snack foods.  My boys love fruit, but it can be so messy to eat when on the go.  Crispy Fruit allows us to take our treats with us, enjoy and not have the mess.
We stock up on Crispy Green at our local WholeFoods or Safeway stores (I’m so glad it is available locally).  You can see a list of locations to purchase Crispy Fruit here.  Do you love fruit but wish it were more portable?  Are you a fan of snacks like this for on the go?  If so, my family and I definitely suggest checking out Crispy Fruit by Crispy Green and see how delicious they for yourself.

We all love a good treat in our life.  For some of us, it’s chocolate, for others, candy and so much more.  Today I introduce you to a brand of treats that my family and I have been loving.  GoMacro, a family owned vegan company that started by a mother-daughter team, has launched a delicious new line of plant-based bars called Thrive.

GoMacro, healthy treats, snack bars, food, Thrive by GoMacro, bars, food, superfood nut bar, nut bar, ancient seeds, taste test, treat, snack,

Thrive by GoMacro offers six flavors of bars that contain plant-based protein, essential fatty acids and prebiotic fiber to fuel your body and mind.  Thrive is made up of a superfood ancient grain blend and each bar is less than 200 calories.

GoMacro, healthy treats, snack bars, food, Thrive by GoMacro, bars, food, superfood nut bar, nut bar, ancient seeds, taste test, treat, snack,

Like all GoMacro products, Thrive is USDA Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, Kosher, Gluten-Free certified, 100% Vegan and Soy-Free.  You can find Thrive bars online and various Whole Foods locations as of October 2016.  Each Thrive bar retails for about $2.19/bar (1.4 oz / 40g) and each bar includes two unique flavors.

I had the opportunity to try the following flavors:

Ginger Lemon – this flavor stars the soothing combo of ginger and lemon.  This bar is to help you feel at ease.  Filled with cashews, zing of giner and the sweet, tart of lemon.  I’m not a huge fan of ginger in general, but was very impressed that this product tasted good.  I also love cashews so I enjoyed this a lot.  Also contains:  Organic cashews, organic hemp hearts, organic puffed quinoa, organic pumpkin seeds, organic sprouted brown rice protein, organic sprouted flax.

Chocolate, Nuts and Sea Salt – if you love that sweet and savory flavor blend, you’ll enjoy this one.  This is a favorite among my sons and I and even my husband thought it tasted really good.  It includes organic, fair trade, vegan chocolate chips made with coconut sugar, sea salt and vanilla.  It’s a great tasting bar.  The only think I had a challenge with is the walnuts – I’ve since grown out of a severe walnut allergy since having it as a kid, but I can’t consume walnuts often or a lot of it.  There are a lot of walnuts in this bar so I would love to see one made without it.  Also contains:  organic almonds, organic cashews, organic fair trade chocolate chips, organic hemp hearts, organic puffed quinoa, organic sprouted brown rice protein, organic sprouted flax, organic walnuts.

Caramel Coconut – this is my favorite!  Featuring vegan caramel created by GoMacro and under 200 calories with only 6 grams of sugar for a good source of fiber and protein.  I love coconut flavored things, but absolutely love that it also includes that sweet dates within.  Also contains:  organic almonds, organic cashews, organic dates, organic hemp hearts, organic puffed quinoa, organic sesame butter, organic sprouted brown rice protein, organic sprouted flax, organic unsweetned coconut.  Like I said, this is my favorite out of all the bars I tried.

GoMacro, healthy treats, snack bars, food, Thrive by GoMacro, bars, food, superfood nut bar, nut bar, ancient seeds, taste test, treat, snack,

Blueberry Lavender – I liked the flavor of this, but again, the walnuts in the bar were quite overwhelming for me.  While I have grown out of my walnut allergy, I must be careful with how much I consume and this bar was chuck full of it that it started to cause my throat to swell.  If you love walnuts – this is the bar for you.  The sweet blueberry tastes great and together the walnuts, lavender and blueberries provide you with a divine, calming experience that is packed with antioxidants and omega 3s.  This bar is a great source of fiber and protein while keeping the sugars to only 6 grams.  It has a unique flavor, but I definitely enjoyed it.  If they made this without walnuts – I think it would be one of my faves.  Also contains:  organic gluten-free rolled oats, organic hemp hearts, organic puffed quinoa, organic sprouted flax, organic sunflower seeds, organic walnuts.

GoMacro, healthy treats, snack bars, food, Thrive by GoMacro, bars, food, superfood nut bar, nut bar, ancient seeds, taste test, treat, snack,

Almond Apricot – My eldest enjoyed this bar a lot.  With a combination of almonds and apricots, this makes the perfect  hiking trail companion.  Loaded with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and the GoMacro ancient seed blend of hemp hearts, quinoa and sprouted flax – this bar will be the perfect one to give you energy to climb Mount Everest or in our case, hike down into the Haleakala Volcano Crater.  My son seemed to enjoy it and I had a little taste of it and liked it as well.  Also contains:  organic almonds, organic hemp hearts, organic puffed quinoa, organic pumpkin seeds, organic sprouted flax and organic sunflower seeds.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip – even my husband liked this one, but he is a chocolate peanut butter addict.  With 8 grams of plant-based protein, this bar takes the medal for GoMacro’s highest protein Thrive bar.  It’s delicious and taste like a really good chocolate peanut butter bar.  Also contains:  organic hemp hearts, organic peanut butter, organic peanut butter chips, organic peanuts, organic puffed quinoa, organic sprouted brown rice protein, organic sprouted flax.

GoMacro, healthy treats, snack bars, food, Thrive by GoMacro, bars, food, superfood nut bar, nut bar, ancient seeds, taste test, treat, snack,

I’m excited that these are at my local Whole Foods because my sons (and my husband) seemed to enjoy them.  They are chuck full of yummy ingredients and these are the perfect way to get healthy energy to keep you going.  I’m a fan of anything coconut and I also love that these bars have Quinoa in them, since it’s one of my favorite things to eat.

GoMacro, healthy treats, snack bars, food, Thrive by GoMacro, bars, food, superfood nut bar, nut bar, ancient seeds, taste test, treat, snack,

If you are looking for a treat that offers a little bit of sweet (nothing cloyingly sweet or sugary), but also offer you a nice crunch and some great benefits, I think you’d enjoy these.  They are kid approved – my sons have been taking them in their backpacks for after school snacks and they enjoy them.  If you have a nut allergy, I would probably stay away – since these do include nuts and are processed in a facility that handles nuts.  But, overall – I think you’d enjoy these if you are anything like me.

As a family, our lives tend to be a bit hectic and busy.  I just consider us busy because we are out in the world, making memories and enjoying life.  This year all three boys started school the same week they started Football practice for Pop Warner.  Let’s just say it has been a busy month so far and keeping the littles on task for school while still getting them to and from practice and games can be a challenge but overall rewarding and we make it work to the best to our ability.  With a schedule that starts from 6am and ends at 8:30pm for the boys, they have a long day and their little bodies keep truckin from rise to bed.  To keep t hem on top of their game and play, I try to incorporate great tasting snacks like CLIF Kid Zbar® that have important nutrients for active kids.

CLIF Kid, energy, play, sports, children, kids, football, school, CLIF Kid ZBar,

It seems like I have a household full of guys that literally eat like crazy, but with three growing boys that’s exactly what is going on.  To keep them on their toes, I give them CLIF Kid Zbars, which are nutritious snacks that are made from organic ingredients, all of which are specially-crafted for kids’ developing taste buds and active lives.  My sons absolutely love how the CLIF Kid Zbars tastes and they have asked me to purchase them many times.

CLIF Kid, energy, play, sports, children, kids, football, school, CLIF Kid ZBar,

CLIF Kid Zbars are the perfect portion size for kids. I especially love that they come in flavors that they love and they fit perfectly in their lunch box or backpack to take with them to school.  All three boys snack on their CLIF Kid Zbars during break for that mid day snack so that they are not starving when they come home from school.  I enjoy that they are made with organic ingredients, are Non-GMO (something we try to steer clear of in our household) and have no high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors or synthetic preservatives.

CLIF Kid, energy, play, sports, children, kids, football, school, CLIF Kid ZBar,

CLIF Kid has been an essential part of our back to school routine and the boys have been loving the taste and flavors of the snacks they have tried.  But, what I love is that they don’t need to be used for just school.  CLIF Kid is dedicated to reclaiming play!  With balance and active play laying the foundation for skilled, healthy, resilient and successful society, we are keeping our kids active and still providing them fun.  This is one of the reasons why my sons are engaged with Play time, no matter what it is.  Our play time is football and the boys enjoy CLIF Kid Zbars as a part of their snack after practice.

CLIF Kid, energy, play, sports, children, kids, football, school, CLIF Kid ZBar,

When my sons are on the filed, they not only get a little active time, but they have a lot of fun and CLIF Kid helps to encourage that.  Let’s face it, play is disappearing at home, in school and in communities now a days, especially since technology, television and video games have a little part in that.  I remember as a kid, I played outside all the time and it’s sad to see that 70% of moms like me played outside while only 31% of our kids play outside today.  I encourage outside play whole heartily and enjoy that my sons love to play and keep active.

CLIF Kid, energy, play, sports, children, kids, football, school, CLIF Kid ZBar,

Whether it’s back to school or on the field, foraging through the woods or riding a bike – no matter the play time your family enjoys, get out and enjoy it all.  Remember, like I said before… make memories while having some fun.

CLIF Kid, energy, play, sports, children, kids, football, school, CLIF Kid ZBar,

What about you?  Do you remember being out exploring and playing till the lights came on?  What are your favorite memories of your play time?  Encourage play time with your kids if you don’t already, have some fun and create memories.

As I sit here at my desk writing up this post, the sun is peaking through the clouds.  You see, we just experienced a heavy downpour due to a tropical storm in our midst, but even with the rain – it’s still quite hot and humid.  I honestly forgot to share this delicious recipe with all of you and decided I better hop on it and get it out before Fall approaches us and I completely forget altogether.  It’s been pretty warm lately here in Hawaii and while I do enjoy the summer months, I enjoy a great drink that just hits the spot to cool you down in a heartbeat.  Today I’ll be sharing with you a couple of easy to do recipes that are for drinks that are refreshing and light – perfect for the last of the summer months.  These drinks feature Cascade Ice and a few ingredients but they will be an absolute hit at your backyard BBQ or potluck or just to enjoy while sitting on the veranda enjoying the warm summer and what’s left of it.

Let’s start with the Coco-Lemonade:

Let’s face it, a BBQ isn’t complete without some good ol’ fashion lemonade and it’s probably one of my favorite summer drinks.  This Coco-Lemonade is great and offers a fun little twist.  Start with a chilled glass full of ice and add 3 oz. of Cascade Ice Coconut and 4 oz. of Cascade Ice Lemonade.  Garnish with sliced lemons and a sugar rim for that sweet and tart taste and a little glam.  This is the perfect drink for the little ones because it’s refreshing and who doesn’t love a great lemonade.  Looking to spice it up a bit?  Add a shot of coconut rum to give it that pina collada twist with some lemon flare.  Garnish with coconut sugar and you have yourself a delicious drink.

Cascade Ice offers a variety of delicious drinks for any BBQ or Summer Party (as well as year round).  Blueberry Watermelon, Strawberry Lemonade, Coconut, Lemonade and Pomegranate Berry are all delicious and refreshing all on their own.  You can experience guilt-free taste without the sodium, caffeine and gluten and enjoy the taste that’s absolutely great.  Cascade Ice offers 30 great tasting varieties.  Cascade Ice water is a flavored sparkling water with a clean crisp, delicious taste.  Cascade Ice water eliminates the unnecessary, unhealthy “extras” you can find in other flavor waters like sugar, sodium, carbs, caffeine and gluten and gives you pure, refreshing taste that you’ll love.

Not into coconut or lemon?  Don’t you worry – I got you covered with a few more recipes you can try.  For my melon lovers, try the Melon Mixer.  That delicious watermelon we see in stores can be used in a wonderful and refreshing, thirst quenching drink.  Start with 3 oz. of Cascade Ice Blueberry Watermelon (yum).  Pour in 1 oz. of club soda and add several slices of watermelon and blueberries to the mix.  Stir to release the fresh flavor and you’ll have a drink fit for the Gods.  Add a little vodka for an adult version of this drink and you are good to go.

Love Pomegranate?  Well, try the Pomegranate Icer.  Since Pomegranates pack a punch of vitamins and anti-oxidants and they are in season for summer, this is the perfect time to try this drink.  Start with 4 oz. of Cascade Ice Pomegranate Berry and 1 oz of Cascade Ice Strawberry Lemonade in a glass with crushed ice.  Top it off with fresh pomegranate seeds for the perfect touch.  You can turn this drink into a cocktail version by adding a shot glass or two of vodka and garnish with pomegranate seeds.

I’m looking forward to trying out new recipes and I love that I can find Cascade Ice at so many locations in the islands.  The drinks are delicious and I love that there are so many flavors that everyone in my family will find one they enjoy.  What about you?  Do you think any of these drinks will tickle your fancy this summer and if you do – which one do you think you’ll give a whirl.

July 1st is Canada Day and I thought it would be perfect to celebrate by sharing a few delicious finds that are made in Canada.  I have met and established wonderful relationships over the years with friends around the World and one of those places happen to be Canada.  In that time frame, I have had the opportunity to receive wonderful gifts from these friends, many of which includes delicious treats from the Country itself… including Maple.  Today I wanted to share with you some treats that I love and hopefully you can celebrate Canada Day along with me while treating yourself to these awesome finds that you can get from CanadaTheStore.com.

CanadaTheStore, Canada Day, celebrate, maple syrup, maple tea, canadian, canada, maple tea from canada, Jakeman's maple syrup, food, review, delicious,

As I mentioned previously, these products are from CanadaTheStore.com.  Canada The Store is a site that proudly showcases a collection of products that are either designed in Canada, Made in Canada or are products of Canada. They offer Apparel to Watercrafts and a variety of products from simple to sophisticated.  Canadian companies create a variety of quality products that are in demand worldwide.  Canada The Store is well respected across the world, offering people from around the globe an opportunity to purchase a multitude of fine Canadian made products.  Canada The Store is located in Toronto, Canada and has been doing it’s thing for the last four decades, focusing on providing services without compromise.  The true “Made in Canada” success story.

Their Tag line – “Buy Canadian.  Expect Quality.”

So let’s chit chat about two products I was able to try out from Canada The Store.  The first product is Jakeman’s Pure Canadian Maple Syrup.  The product retails for $11.95 CAD with 250 mL / 8.5 fl.oz. worth of product.  It is a bottle of the 100% Pure Canadian Maple Syrup produced by Jakeman’s and voted Canada’s best tasting Maple Syrup in the National Post.  Now, we love pancakes in our house hold and I love maple candy, so I knew I would easily fall in love with this product.  It’s delicious and rich in color with a distinct maple flavor.  If you have ever tried fresh maple syrup before, this is what it would remind me of… it has a warm, rich flavor that really stands out among other syrups.  This product is great served over breakfast foods (like pancakes or with some sausage and bacon) or used as a glaze on meats or dessert.  I especially love the thickness of this syrup and it would be perfect to glaze a ham with.  I’ve tried many types of maple syrups before and this would have to be my favorite – it’s delicious!

Since I love Maple candy, I couldn’t wait to open up this jar of Canadian True Maple Tea.  When the box arrived at my house, I could smell the tea from the outside of it – it smells absolutely wonderful.  The Canadian True Maple Tea comes in a 3 Pack for $26.95 CAD.  I’m a tea drinker daily so I was very excited to try this tea out.  Each container (you get three of them) comes with 25 Tea Bags so I shared one with my dad since he is my tea drinking aficionado.

CanadaTheStore, Canada Day, celebrate, maple syrup, maple tea, canadian, canada, maple tea from canada, Jakeman's maple syrup, food, review, delicious,

Canada True’s unique flavorful Maple Tea is idea for serving to guest or to give as a special gift.  It is Pure Premium Ceylon Tea with a Nature Identical Canadian Maple Syrup Flavor.  The Teas are packed in Sri Lanka and this tea offers a bold tea flavor with a beautiful and fragrant sweet scent.  Immediately upon opening the box I could smell a sweet vanilla or maple syrup scent coming from the box and it was coming from the tea.  This is a wonderful tea to have with your breakfast or for tea time with biscuits.  It’s hearty in flavor but taste wonderful and I love the sweet perfume that comes from my cup.  I add a little bit of coconut milk or creamer and that is all I need to drink this tea.  I love and my dad absolutely loved the flavor of it as well.

Frequently referred to as Canada’s Birthday, Canada Day is the national day of Canada, a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867 enactment of the Constitution Act 1867.  This act united three Colonies into a single country called Canada within the British Empire.  It was originally called Dominion Day but the holiday was renamed in 1982, the year the Canada Act was passed.  Canada Day observances take place throughout Canada as well as among Canadians internationally.

If you are looking to celebrate, I highly suggest checking out some of the treats and goods that Canada The Store offers and check out all the wonderful items created, made by and made of Canada.

Happy Canada Day!

I consume lemon water daily to help add flavor and refreshment into my drink as well as great detox power.  I love it and since water is my jam, I’m always excited to see when different water bottles hit the market.  Recently, my family and I were introduced to the Original Citrus Zinger and it has easily become a favorite product in our household.  Today I share this product with you and maybe you can add a little ZING to your water.

No need to squeeze your lemon juice over your water only to throw away the peel and all the pulp and waste them.  Slice up your cucumber right into the bottle and release all the delicious goodness of kiwi without the mess.  Lemon, lime or clementines are easy to infuse into your water without any issues and mess.  The included cucumber slicer, citrus press and kiwi press will provide you with fresh fruits while preserving their taste, aroma, hue, vitamins and minerals in your water.  It’s easy, hydrating and this is a tool my family absolutely loves.

Using your Citrus Zinger is easy:

  1.  Start by thoroughly washing and drying your ingredients and Citrus Zinger before you start zinging.
  2. Make sure the cap is tightly fastened before adding ingredients (the cap on the top of the bottle)
  3. Turn the Citrus Zinger over (upside down) and unscrew the bottom cup, exposing the citrus press or cucumber slicer.
  4. Slice the citrus fruit (lemon, lime, clementines) in half and twist half on the citrus press to release the juice.
  5. Once fruit is juiced, leave it on the citrus press and screw the cup back on tightly.
  6. Unscrew top cap and add water, iced tea, or another chilled beverage (that is how citrus zinger suggest making your drink – I like to put water into the bottle prior to zinging so that the water is evenly infused.
  7. Re-screw cap tightly, shake well and enjoy!

A few notes:

  • After juicing, the fruit you use can be left in the cap or taken out.  The longer the fruit is left to infuse, the stronger the flavor will be.  I like to leave the fruit in for strong flavor and great nutrients.
  • Refills can be infused by the same fruit one or two times before the flavor begins to weaken.

I posted a few snippets the first time I used this unit on snapchat and you can view that here or in the embedded video above.

Infused Lemon water

Tips on use:

The bottle itself is well made and sturdy, however the brand does have a few tips and cautions to keep in mind.  Dropping your bottle can cause damage and the bottom cup must be twisted properly and tight to prevent leaks.  You don’t want to use your zinger if it is damaged.  Do not use your citrus zinger with hot liquids and do not microwave or freeze.  Avoid excessive heat when consuming a mixture and discard your beverage after 12 hours if not refrigerated.

A few details and features:

The Citrus Zinger is a 28 oz bottle that uses health-safe materials – BPA/Ea free Eastman Tritan Plastic.  Your citrus press is dishwasher safe and the unit is carbonated water friendly.  The bottle comes with a wide mouth top to allow for easy filling and ice cubes to keep your drink chilled.  You have a finger loop in your top cap to allow for easy carrying and this unit is designed in the USA.  Citrus Zinger (Zinganything.com) offers a 1 Year manufacturer warranty on any mechanical defects.

My family and I have had some fun zinging cucumbers, lemons, limes and adding some organic honey, fresh herbs and cayenne pepper to our water to help refresh, detox and add great flavor to our drinks.  If you are looking for a fun way to add some flavor to your water, I think you’ll enjoy this.  With summer in full swing, it’s important to stay hydrated and this neat product can offer a lot of fun but is also practical.  It’s easy to clean, sturdy and we really enjoy it.  Using the Zinger really perks up your water and makes it easy to stay hydrated and healthy this season and every day of the year.

“When life gives you lemons – or kiwis, zing them!”

You can purchase the Original Citrus Zinger at: http://www.zinganything.com/product/citruszinger-gift-set and Target stores.

Have you heard of or tried the Citrus Zinger by Zing Anything before?  If so, what do you think of it?  If not, do you think this is something you could see adding to your lifestyle?

Being a Hawaii girl – born & raised, I have a love for all things seafood… yes, even raw seafood.  The islands are my home and as a child I learned to fish and dive for my food to provide for my family.  Because of this, special recipes passed down over the years are favorites of mine and I absolutely love sharing my love for my culture with my friends around the World.  Poisson Cru, otherwise known as Tahitian Style Poke (poke = po – ke) is different from the familiar Ahi Poke you see in Hawaiian style restaurants.  It’s a poke that is similar to ceviche with ingredients like lime juice to marinate the fish, but also uses coconut milk to give it a different texture and taste.  It’s a tangy take on the original Poke you may be used to at a Lu’au but just as delicious and full with fresh ingredients to make a hearty and tasty dish.

Foodie Friday – Poisson Cru, Tahitian Style Poke Recipe

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Yield: 8

Ingredients

  1. 1 lb fresh fish (I used ahi – but you can select to use snapper or swordfish also). Cut your fish in 1 3/4 inch x 1/4 inch cubes
  2. 3 tablespoons Masago/Tobiko (orange fish roe) this is not a traditional ingredient, but I love it and it really adds to the flavor and texture
  3. 1 small sweet round onion (Kula Onion from Maui is the best, but any sweet round onion will do). Minced
  4. 1 small Japanese cucumber, chopped
  5. 4-5 stalks green onion, chopped. Separate the white and the green parts – chop both
  6. 1 large tomato – seeded and chopped
  7. 1/2 cup lime juice (fresh preferred)
  8. 1/4 cup coconut milk (fresh preferred, but you could get the type in a can or frozen in the ethnic food section.)
  9. 2 pinches Hawaiian Rock Salt or Ala’e
  10. Sprig of Cilantro (I use this for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ahi (or fish of choice) with all of the ingredients, except use only the white parts of the green onion.
  2. Allow to sit for 10 minutes (place in the refrigerator while waiting).
  3. Prior to serving, drain the excess liquid and taste the poke to adjust seasoning.
  4. Add more hawaiian salt or coconut milk if you need.
  5. Garnish with the green parts of the chopped green onion and cilantro.

  • Sprig of Cilantro (I use this for garnish)

Preparation:

In a mixing bowl, combine the ahi (or fish of choice) with all of the ingredients, except use only the white parts of the green onion.  Allow to sit for 10 minutes (place in the refrigerator while waiting).  Prior to serving, drain the excess liquid and taste the poke to adjust seasoning.  Add more hawaiian salt or coconut milk if you need.  Garnish with the green parts of the chopped green onion and sprig of cilantro.

Service:

Serve the preparation of the Poisson Cru immediately after it has sit for the 10 minutes.  This mixture will serve about 8.  If you will not be serving this mixture immediately – please prep and cut all items but do not mix together until ready to serve.

**This is my take on the Poisson Cru recipe.  There are many available now a days with personal interpretations of the recipe as well as additional or less products.  You can definitely use my recipe as inspiration to add different takes.

What is Pokē?

Pokē is traditionally made with yellowfin tuna or ahi.  The traditional poke consists of ahi tuna, green onions, chili peppers, hawaiian sea salt, soy sauce, sesame oil, roasted kukui nut (candlenut) and limu and served as an appetizer in Hawaiian cuisine.  It is often referred to as a raw fish salad. Pokē is the Hawaiian verb for “section” or “to slice or cut” and refers to the slices / cuts of the pieces that are mixed into this salad.

I hope you enjoyed this easy to create recipe.  Some of the ingredients may be a bit challenging to find, but you can get the roe and fish at most fish markets and the other items like coconut milk at the ethnic section of your store.  If you try this recipe, please come back & let me know.  Are you a fish eater?  Do you think you would enjoy something like this?

NOTHING TO DISCLOSE

Do you follow me on Snapchat?  If so, you may have seen my short little demo of my version of the Starbucks Pink Drink and how I created my own.  It’s really easy (I have a download of the DIY from my snaps embedded below) and most of the time you can either find all the ingredients you need in your refrigerator or freezer or they are cheap to pick up from your local grocer.  Today I’m going to share with you the recipe and a little chit chat too.  So – keep reading to learn how to make your own DIY Starbuck’s Pink Drink – the drink that’s so popular on Social Media that many Starbucks shops are having a hard time keeping them in stock.

DIY, starbucks, do it yourself, starbucks pink drink, diy pink drink, diy starbucks pink drink, food, drink, delicious, recipe,

So what is the Starbucks Pink Drink and what does it consist of?  The Starbucks Pink Drink includes the Strawberry Acai Refresher (a drink that is normally served on ice with water as its base liquid) and instead of water, it is mixed with coconut milk.  It’s easy to make and if you are looking to really keep with the Starbucks flavor – you can certainly pick up your own packet mix from your local Target or Starbucks and mix the powder with ice and coconut milk, add a few chopped up strawberries and you’re good to go.  A few days ago, I ordered my own version of the Pink Drink with a Very Berry Refresher instead of the Strawberry Acai from Starbucks and realized that I wanted something with a little more body to it so I created my own version of the Strawberry Acai since I already had the supplies on hand.

Here’s what you need to create your own Starbucks Pink Drink at home:

  • Strawberries – I decided to go with frozen Strawberries because it’s what I had on hand and I wanted a frothier taste and texture with a little more body.  I used about 20 medium to large sized frozen strawberries to make 62 oz of pink drink.
  • Acai Blend – You can find these at your local grocer in the frozen section.  I always have this on hand because I make homemade Acai Bowls.  If you are using the packets I have – then you’ll want to use half of the packet to 62 oz. of the pink drink.
  • Coconut Milk – You can use any kind you have or want.  I chose the Silk Coconut Milk because it is what we have on hand.  I used approximately 42 oz. of coconut milk added into my pink drink.
  • White Grape Juice Concentrate – these are cheap so I tend to have a few in the freezer at any given time.  The white grape juice is best because it adds a bit of sweetness without changing the color of the juice, leaving it with its pink hue.  You can also use apple juice.  I used approximately 12 oz. of white grape juice concentrate added to my pink drink.

This recipe will make 2 Trenta Sized (31 oz.) cups for a total of 62 oz.  You can opt to use smaller cups but that is what I had to use so I measured accordingly.

In the video embedded above – I share with you what I shared with my Snap Fam. Basically it’s the quick and easy steps in Snapchat form. Making this drink should be easy, fun and literally take a minute or two – making it the perfect summer drink.

  1. Place your strawberries, acai blend and white grape concentrate into a blender, food processor, etc.  I used my Ninja to chop them up and slightly pulse the strawberries so that it would blend all the ingredients, but also break down the strawberries so they were not whole.  You want to leave a little bit of body left in the mix so you get strawberry pieces blended into your drink.  It makes it taste better.  If you are using fresh strawberries, chop up your strawberries that are being placed into the coconut milk, but blend the others to get that pink drink and full bodied flavor.
  2. Add your strawberry, acai and white grape juice mixture in the bottom of your cup.  Since I had gone to Starbucks the day before – I used Trenta cups to host my drink.
  3. Add your coconut milk.  I poured the coconut milk to fill the remainder  3/4 of the cup but still leaving enough room to stir the mixture within the cup without making a mess.
  4. Stir the coconut milk and strawberry mixture together until you see the beautiful pink shade and the milk and fruit blend is combined.
  5. Enjoy!

If the drink is too sweet for you – decrease the amount of white grape concentrate and replace with more coconut milk or just add more coconut milk to the drink.  You can store this in the refrigerator for a few days before drinking, but just make sure you stir up the mixture before serving to combine since the fruit will settle and the coconut milk can separate.

Check out my quick Snapchat Video here (which I have uploaded to YouTube for future reference) so that you can kind of see how much you should blend the strawberries to get the right consistency.  But remember… you can’t screw this up – taper the recipe to fit your need and create your own.  This is so easy to make that my family is absolutely loving it and it will be a hit for summer parties.  If you decide to create your own, please be sure to stop in and let me know – I would love to hear how it worked out for you.  Not a strawberry fan?  Use mangoes, any other type of berries, melons or what ever type of fruit you desire.

** And, if you are looking to turn this into a little cocktail for the summer – add coconut rum and you’ll have a delicious summer cocktail beverage.

Have you tried the infamous Pink Drink from Starbucks?  If so, are you planning to try this recipe at home and make your own?  I hope you enjoy!

Disclaimer:  This is my own take on the infamous Starbucks Pink Drink.  I do not work for Starbucks nor am I getting paid to provide this recipe for anyone.  Affiliate links are posted through out.  It has taken me a few days to get the taste the way I want it, but I do not claim to have come up with the original Starbucks recipe – this is just my own version and take on the drink.  To me it tastes similar and I like it.
