Maui is my home and definitely my sanctuary – a place I love and will always love. Many of you may be noticing a change in the content here at Honeygirl’s World moving forward and I’m excited about it. You see, as a born and raised Maui girl (or kama’aina as they call it here in Hawai’i), I wanted to be able to share a little about Hawaii and my island home with my readers. Here’s the thing, there are a ton of blogs out there about Maui and Hawaii for that matter, but how many of them are truly from the perspective of a native born? I love writing about my favorite products and sharing my thoughts on the latest and newest beauty trends, but I feel like I really want to be able to share more of my life, with all of you.
So, I bring to you new content that is coming from the heart. If you’re looking for reviews on different types of tourist attractions, activities, and eateries, consider me your own personal concierge. I want to be able to share more of the things I love with all of you, the readers that helped to make Honeygirl’s World what it is today. You can expect to still find a plethora of product features and reviews because let’s face it – beauty is my passion and so is my family. So, don’t think that those videos, reviews, and posts will end. I just want you to know that I’m going to be mixing it up a lot here. You’ll still see the same type of content with a little blend of the island living I love.
Remember what I said earlier, about the point of view on Maui living (or Hawaii living for that matter) is usually not coming from a Hawaii native? Well, I meant it. I really want to share my thoughts with all of you as I have for 10 or more years. I love experiencing all that Maui and Hawaii have to offer and I can’t wait to embark on this journey and share with all of you. Reviewing Eateries that I enjoy here has been one of my favorite things to do on the blog over the years, so I’m excited to share so much more with all of you too.
Like I said before, this doesn’t mean the content you enjoy and love will no longer be here. You can still search and find your favorite posts and you’ll continue to see new ones… I’m just adding to my flair.
Wishing you all a warm summer and lots of paradise loving,

If you didn’t already know – I am born and raised in Hawaii on the island of Maui. While it’s quite expensive to live here, it’s my island home and I’m proud of it. My families roots and ancestry go back several years and my Great Grandmother was even of 100% Hawaiian ancestry. Because of this, I’m always VERY proud of where I come from and the great things that Hawaii has to offer. The islands are a wonder of talent, many of which come from the music industry. My parents are musicians, so I have definitely seen my fair share of talented song birds and instrument players over the years. One very talented person who comes from my island home of Maui is Anuhea Jenkins and I’m excited to share that she has recently collaborated with one of my favorite cosmetic brands, Cargo Cosmetics. Today I’m going to share with you the You Had Me At Aloha palette – a new and limited edition release. Let’s learn more about it, shall we?
This gorgeous limited edition palette called: You Had Me At Aloha is hawaiian themed with 12 gorgeous shadows. Retailing for just $34.00 this palette includes a very versatile mix of neutral shades and pops of color to create gorgeous and stunning eye looks. Each shade is inspired by Hawaii’s beautiful natural beaches and floral and forest landscapes.
The shades through out the palette are laid out in 3 quads and 6 duos to perfectly coordinate and achieve both day and night looks. I have also been enjoying pairing different colors outside of the coordinated tones (like Kai, Lei, Shaka and Shell) to create my own custom looks. The palette also comes with a versatile dual-ended eye shadow brush that will allow you to apply the color and blend as well as a black pencil eye liner that can be sharpened to complete your entire look.
Hula – champagne (shimmer)
Waikiki – light peach (matte)
Hapuna – ivory (matte)
Kona – medium brown (shimmer)
Shell – light pink pearl (shimmer)
Shaka – medium pink purple (matte)
Hibiscus – light yellow (matte)
Island – peach (shimmer)
Kai – teal (shimmer)
Tiki – deep brown (matte)
Lei – violet (matte)
Luau – aubergine (shimmer)
I’ve had this palette now for a few weeks (since it was released on Cargo’s website) and I was not only intrigued but very excited to get it when I posted about the collaboration between Cargo and Anuhea last year. When I talked about the collaboration months ago, I had no idea what the products would be or the colors so as soon as I seen it… I fell in love. This particular palette screams “Honey” to me because the colors within are literally those that I use all the time or my favorite and must-have types of shades. But, the fact that Anuhea is a local girl from Maui and signed as Ambassador of one of my favorite brands, really was the icing on the cake for me.
The shimmer shades through out this palette are absolutely stunning and gorgeous and each have a really nice texture. The matte shades definitely wowed me more than I had expected. Perfectly selected to have the mattes you need to create a whole eye look. I am always impressed with the quality of Cargo’s products and I’m amazed they are not hyped up as much as other brands. I have several palettes from Cargo but I think this is my favorite.
“As a Hawaii girl, I’m really proud to share this collaboration with all of you. This beautiful palette is a must have for the makeup lover – especially if you enjoy colors like these. Wearable shades with pops of color to help you create a stunning look.” – Honey
Let’s talk about the packaging… first, how beautiful is this Hawaii themed palette. I think the design on the cover and the gold foiling really add a special touch. For years to come, this will be a palette I will love having in my collection – even if just to hold for sentimental sake because the packing is gorgeous. The colors are all named after places in Hawaii or things about Hawaii which I love. I also love how so many of the colors represent its name perfectly – for example: Kai (which is the teal shimmery shade in the palette) is Ocean in hawaiian. And Hapuna which is a gorgeous location on the island of Hawai’i (Big Island) is a beautiful ivory matte shade which is reminiscent of the location that Hapuna is – tranquil, quaint, a golf resort area and great beaches for surfing. Kona, a medium brown tone represents one of the main towns on the island of Hawai’i is lined with lava rack along the western coast and you’ll find various coffee farms & many historic landmarks on the island there. All of the names of this palette correspond so well with the color it represents.
Hawaiian born singer and songwriter, Anuhea, is one of the most popular talents to originate from Hawaii. She charted top ten on the iTunes Pop, R&B and Reggae charts as well as the Billboard Heatseakers and World Music Charts. Anuhea has shared the stage with Bruno Mars, Babyface, Al Green, FloRida, Hoobastank, Jack Johnson and Ziggy Marley. She won two Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, Hawaii’s version of the Grammy’s, for Contemporary Album of the Year and Most Promising Artist. Eight of her songs consecutively made it to #1 in Hawaii including, “Higher than the Clouds.”
This gorgeous palette and the collection of products in collaboration with Anuhea has been available in over 1,100 Kohl’s department stores as of February 2017. Anuhea will be appearing in all elements of the brand’s comprehensive marketing campaign including the print and digital advertising, in-store displays, public relations and even event appearances and social media. I recently watched a live mini concert that she did via social media two weeks ago at Turtle Bay Resort on the island of Oahu where she debuted her song “You Had Me At Hello” and talked about the line with Cargo.
You can get your hands on this palette currently at: Cargocosmetics.com and at Kohl’s stores throughout the United States.
So, will you be getting your hands on this limited edition beauty? If so, I’d love to hear all about it. While I don’t know Anuhea personally, I feel like I do have a personal connection with her since she is from my island home. I’m excited to see this collaboration (keep an eye out for more products I’ll be sharing from the collab coming soon) and I’m wishing her all the best in her continued success.

The boys and I have been enjoying our summer months together since my husband is usually working on the weekdays. Come on now, we live on Maui, which has been rated the number 1 Vacation Destination by Conde Nast many years in a row, so we do have a plethora of sites to see and lots of fun to be had. While we live on the mountain, we experience really hot days so I decided to pack the boys up into the car and take a drive up to Kula to cool down – since the air is much cooler there. Our journey led us to the Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm, a place we have visited many times before – but it’s been years since I bought the twins here, so I decided it would be a perfect place to venture.
The Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm is located on the slopes of Haleakala and overlooks some of the most beautiful views on the South side of the island. It is a 25-30 minute drive away from the Kahului Airport (the main airport into Maui) and a popular spot for visitors to stop at and have lunch after watching the sunrise at Haleakala or hiking the crater. At one time, it used to be free to enter the Lavender farm, so I was surprised to see a guard house at the entry (it was not there my last visit a few years ago) and entry for adults is $2.00. It’s well worth the cost however. You can bring your own lunch and have a picnic or hike the grounds for a great adventure. The air is so cool up there, it was a perfect place for the boys and I to getaway to beat the heat.
There is a little shop that sells tasty delectables featuring the fresh picked lavender, but the boys and I decided that we would just take in the sites and cool down and head home to eat lunch instead. We walked around the gardens and admired the fragrant lavender as we took in the sites.
It was a short little adventure, but a beautiful day out so I took this opportunity to take some shots of the boys and my eldest son Kevin helped take a few photos of my casual outfit I wore.
The best part about our little drive and excursion today was that I was able to spend it with the boys. They go back to school in about 2 1/2 weeks and this summer break flew by too quickly. The twins are off to 1st Grade and Kevin is off to 7th Grade. With Football season starting for all three boys August 1st – I know that times like these will be few in between, so I’m glad we made great use out of our Summer break.

My embedded video above also showcases our dinner for that evening… I made my homemade poor man’s rissotto (recipe coming soon) and we watched a beautiful sunset from our porch to end a wonderful day. If you’re not following me on Snapchat – my code is in my side bar, come and follow me on my daily journey. What about you, are you enjoying the summer months? I’m thankful to live in Hawaii and blessed to have a lifestyle where every day is an adventure and a vacation.
Since my DSLR hasn’t been working, it’s been really nice to find reasons to take my phone out to practice shooting with it… all the images that you see in this post were taken with my Samsung Note 4.

I’ve said this before, but living in Hawaii really does have it’s benefits. From the gorgeous ocean and beaches that are my back yard to the beautiful flora and fauna that surround me, Hawaii is a getaway and paradise and I’m born and raised here. I’m pretty lucky! Maui is also home to many creative talents and I am so glad I was able to check out one for myself. Today I introduce you to Nagasako Designs, made on Maui.
Nagasako Designs on Maui was introduced to me about a year ago and I have been swooning and crushing over her jewelry since. You can find many real orchid earrings online and in various stores, but I am proud to say that this one is made right here on the island where I was born and from the town where I was raised. If you are from Maui, you’ll know that the Nagasako name is one that goes back generations. I had been a frequent customer of Nagasako store as a kid, grabbing my ICEE on hot summer days while cruising the Historic Lahaina streets, so I instantly recognized the name when I was introduced to the brand.
Martina Nagasako – a native to Lahaina, Maui preserves cherished floral memories for many and also creates one of a kind pieces that will absolutely be treasured for years to come. Today I share with you a piece I got for Mother’s Day, the Lavender Orchid Center Earrings ($45.00). I instantly fell in love with these because they looked so unique and of course, because Purple is my favorite color. While these gorgeous gems offer a statement, they are still dainty and feminine which I love. The pair dress up any outfit and fit in so well with the laid back lifestyle I live here on Maui. These earrings are well made with center orchids that are grown, hand picked, designed and glassed in Lahaina. I love that they are on hooks which allow the earrings to dangle freely from the ears and the lavender/grey fresh water pearl makes for a perfect accent on each earring.
Nagasako Designs offers a variety of pieces in different sizes and colors. They are priced reasonably and make great gifts. I stalk the company on Instagram to see new releases as they are rolled out and as I mentioned earlier, no two pieces are alike as each flower is unique. Nagasako Designs also offers preservation of flowers from your Wedding Day or special occasion and are the only preservation floral studio in Hawaii.
While I have a plethora of earrings and pendants on my wishlist, I have my eyes on a set of plumeria and whole orchid earring sets. It item is absolutely gorgeous and so well made that I can’t wait to pick up more. I wanted to feature Nagasako Designs on Fashion Friday because I’m not only impressed with the product, but customer service is phenomenal, shipping is very fast and I think it is so awesome to have such a creative mind and designer right in my back yard. But, Nagasako Designs does ship anywhere, so do not hesitate to check out what she has to offer. Stop by Nagasakodesigns.bigcartel.com to see the pieces she offers and check out her Instagram @Nagasakodesigns to keep up with what’s new and to check out her flash sales & discounts she has often.
Have you heard of this brand before? If not – what about the pieces she offers… do you think this would be something you would love as a gift or to treat yourself with? Thanks for stopping by!

Yay – I have finally found the time to post my Summer Essentials video. Honestly, this is the second video I filmed and worked on but since my original video was 40 minutes long, I decided that I really needed to be more tactful with regard to what and how I posted so after some planning the last couple of weeks, here is the result. I hope you enjoy the video and I hope you are enjoying summer.
When I think of Teal and Turquoise colors, Hawaii’s beaches always come to mind. I was very excited to get the Bora Bora Quad from Be A Bombshell in my March Ipsy Glam Bag. The colors in the palette remind me of Hawaii and the beach and the summers I spent as a child and teen surfing the waves. Blues also remind me very much of the Island sunsets that I have experienced in my life… and I wanted to do a fun look utilizing the colors in the palette that incorporated all of these awesome memories. Since it’s been a bit on the chilly side here, I wanted to do a look that reminded me of Spring and Summer and this is what I came up with. I hope you all enjoy this Hawaii Inspired Spring Summer Look.
Styling this look was fun and of course – since I live in Hawaii, it was easy to do. I added a little twist to it however… instead of using a traditional Hawaiian flower in my haku (head lei in Hawaiian), I opted to utilize one of my fun floral crowns that I got from Claire’s. It gave it a nice twist on the look and added a gorgeous pop of yellow against the blues that I applied to my eyes. My strapless tube dress is in black and from Jeans Warehouse (a local boutique).
