Let me be real with you all for a second… when asked, “What is your no makeup makeup look?”  I’ll straight up answer you with… “Um, no makeup – at all!”

But, It’s absolutely no secret that my every day makeup look (if I am using any makeup that is) is mascara and a lippy and on most days.  Since I really do not use makeup, but I want to add a little sexy to the mix, I’ll pull out my big guns, my heavy hitters… my HG products.  So today, in collaboration with a few gals from the Beauty Blogger Collab, I’m bringing to you my “no makeup” makeup look.  This is what I put on when I need a little swag in my look, but still want minimal makeup.  Of course, like I mentioned earlier – if you are looking for a look with literally no makeup, well – that works too 🙂

All About The Summer Glow, No Makeup - Makeup Look http://honeygirlsworld.com

So let’s chit chat a little about what my no-makeup makeup look is.  I definitely want to look polished and put together and it all starts with great skin and my skin care regime.  To give me that fresh dewy look that I love, I make sure to cleanse, add my favorite serums like Hyaluronic Acid and Anti-Wrinkle serum and then finish with a great moisturizer.  These products alone give me a natural glow and really freshen up my face and my look.  It’s essential that I do this each day to keep a youthful appearance.

All About The Summer Glow, No Makeup - Makeup Look http://honeygirlsworld.com

My basic and daily makeup products for me are mascara and lip balm so mascara and a lippy of choice is a definite must have.  My lashes are really short, so if I have clear eye lash glue on hand, I’ll slap on a pair of flirty false lashes, but today I opted for a few coats of mascara to help open up my eyes.  Since I have my eyeliner tattooed, adding mascara to my lashes not only opens my eyes more but also enhances my tattooed liner and makes my lash line look fuller.  My lips are another thing… if I am not pulling for a colored lip balm, I’m reaching for my favorite nude lippies to help enhance my pout.  Usually my no-makeup look would stop there, but if I want to add a little something extra, I’ll add a blush, highlight and a light contour.  Applying these with a light hand are key to get that sunkissed and radiant look that adds a little to your makeup but keeps them guessing if you have anything on.

Here are the products I used on my look today:

  • Brows – For my brows, since they are shaped fairly well and are full, I used my NYX Control Freak Eye Brow Gel.  (Review here)  I swept this product over my brows to set them in place for the day.
  • Lashes – Since I have short lashes, I like to layer certain mascaras to make my lashes stand out without false eyelashes.  Today I used my Covergirl Super Sizer mascara layered with Benefit’s Roller Lash.  These two lashes paired together help to give me some length and volume without looking spidery or clumpy.
  • Lips – One of my absolute go-to lippies for an “every day” or no-makeup look is MAC’s High Tea.  This lipstick is the perfect nude with a gloss texture and offers the perfect color to compliment my pout.
  • Bronzer – To add a little warmth, a light bronze and some subtle contouring I used Laura Geller’s Bronze-n-Brighten Baked Color Correcting Bronzer in medium.  Using a domed bronzing brush I light dust this all over the areas I want to give a subtle bronze look.  It’s not about contouring but more about a light definition.
  • Blush & Highlight – For a little color to my cheeks and a soft highlight I used my Laura Geller Blush-N-Brighten in Como.  This combination has a blend of pink and gold to offer the perfect amount of color to your cheeks and a gorgeous peach gold highlight so the sun looks like it is perfectly kisses your cheeks.  With a fluffy brush I lightly dust this on the applies of my cheeks and blend onto my cheek bone.
  • Set your makeup – To set and put that nice dewy look back into my face, I spritz on one of my favorite facial sprays.  Today I used my Evian Mineral Water Spray.  Since it is warm, this is perfect to cool me down but also give my makeup that effortless, no-makeup look.

All About The Summer Glow, No Makeup - Makeup Look http://honeygirlsworld.com

My normal “no-makeup” makeup look is pretty easy and simple to create but it puts a little pep in my step and still gives me that “put together” look without using too much.  If I go with a basic look (mascara and lippy) or add a little blush, bronze & highlight – it’s something you can definitely see me rocking out most of the time.  If I were asked what my go-to look for Summer is, this is it.

So what are your favorite go-to’s to create that “no-makeup”?  When I say “no makeup” I mean it, but sometimes we could use a little style and flair to our look, don’t you think?  Be sure to stop by and check out the links below for the no-makeup makeup looks of the lovely ladies from the Beauty Blogger Collab.

The winter months often have my skin quite light in comparison to what shade I am during the summer months so bronzer tends to be my best friend, year round – but certainly during Spring.  I have never been a fan of shimmery bronzers and while I do use them, I find that it just draws too much attention to the places I really don’t want to have seen.  My ideal bronzer would be one that blends well, matches my skin and is obviously matte, and while I have found some that I love, I find that this particular bronzer is one I pull for often.  Last year one of my favorite drug store companies released a matte bronzer and today I share the NYX Matte Bronzer with all of you.

Bronzed Beauty with NYX Matte Bronzer http://honeygirlsworld.com

Reasonably and drugstore priced, the NYX Matte Bronzer retails for $9.00 on their website and in various stores like Target and Ulta.  These compacts come in five shades (Light, Deep, Medium, Dark Tan and Deep Tan).  While I do not particularly think these shades would be great for those with really fare skin, I find that the color choices are really nice for those with my skin tone or darker.

Bronzed Beauty with NYX Matte Bronzer http://honeygirlsworld.com

Each bronzer has a Net Wt. 0.33 oz 9.5g and in my opinion – that is a lot of product for the price.  This bronzer is completely matte and very pigmented.  I not only use a light hand when applying it, but I must also ensure that I tap the excess off of my brush prior to applying as it can offer a very dramatic contour.  I own the color in Deep – which is a cool brown shade that still lends for a warm tone, which I like.  It lasts for several hours when applied directly to my skin and I do not notice any oxidizing, which is a big deal since many matte bronzers can do this on my skin.

Packaging is great – easy for travel and sturdy.  I have dropped my bronzer many times and it hasn’t cracked, chipped or shattered on me yet.  The compact itself also has a built in mirror which I think is great for traveling and taking with you though I do not think touch-ups are needed.  This bronzer has a soft, buttery like texture which I love, without out the dust that can often come with it.  I have applied with contour brushes and fluffy brushes and find that it blends out without issue and offers you a subtle or dramatic bronze and contour effect.  This product has easily become a favorite and go-to and I find I pull for it much more than my high end brands.

Bronzed Beauty with NYX Matte Bronzer http://honeygirlsworld.com

Whether you are looking for a subtle bronze, contour or dramatic definition I think anyone would enjoy using this product.  It’s affordable, which is a huge deal for me and it does the job of those that I have paid twice the price for.  This matte bronzer from NYX is one of those that I definitely recommend if you can find the shade that fits you best.  Unfortunately – my biggest con is that this is not available for all skin tones and I know my light Snow White skinned loves will probably not find a shade that will work for them.  But I definitely suggest giving it a run and see for yourself.  You can purchase this bronzer and more at nyxcosmetics.com or at your local Ulta or Target stores.

Have you tried the NYX Matte Bronzer?  If so – what shade do you use and if not, is it something you would try?

After using this product for a year and having purchased it at least twice, I think it’s about time I finally get it together and talk about it here.  It’s no secret that the NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel is a favorite of mine, having featured it in a few monthly favorites and various makeup looks and tutorials, so I’m surprised I haven’t talked about it sooner.  The NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel is my go-to when I am on the go and need to set my unruly brows in place for the day.

NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel

The NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel (0.3 oz / 9g) is a drugstore product that I have been loving the last year.  Depending on where you purchase this product (I’m excited to have found it at my local Target – since new NYX products are hard to find here), this particular brow gel can retail anywhere from $5.50 – $9.00.  This simple tube has a lot of power to hold my long and full brows in place on days I don’t want to fill them in and need them to stay put, or if I have filled in my brows and want that “stay all day and play” control.

The gel itself is clear and much like many on the market today but what I love about this product is once my brows are set with it, they don’t budget or move.   I wouldn’t consider it to be waterproof – if I went for a swim, it would come off in the water, but I enjoy that I can set my natural brows with this and for the most part of the day and many hours it will stay in place.  Now, I can hear you saying to me… “There are a lot of products that do that…” but truth betold, I like how this gel doesn’t feel crunchy on my brows or stiff and it is NEVER clumpy.  The gel sets quickly and even if the brush seems simple and lacks uniqueness in the package, I never have to worry about clumps or patches of gel on my brow.  I think the wand stopper literally cleans the brush so that each time you take it out to apply, it provides you with the perfect amount of product each and every time.  No globs of goop.

NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel

If you look at the photo above, you can barely see the product on the wand.  This awesome stopper really helps in providing you the same amount of product each time and no more goopy brows!  What is great about this product is that it is not sticky at all as others have been for me and again, it dries quickly so you can use this on the days you are on the run.  Looking for a clear mascara?  This product can also do double duty if you want it to.

Obviously, if you are looking for something with tint or to add color to your brows, this is not it.  It’s merely a product to set your brows in place… but since my brows are naturally full, I find that this product works well for me on a daily basis to keep them tamed and in place.  Again – while I still have movement in my eyebrows so that simple things like lifting my brow looks natural and not stiff, I know my eyebrows will stay in place.

soft smoky eye
In the photo above I am using the NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel to set my brows in place and have used a brow shadow to fill them in.

So – have you tried the NYX Control Freak eyebrow gel?  If not, is it something you would be interested in trying?  What is your go-to eyebrow gel?  Do you favor a drugstore brand or highend?

Looking back at the calendar, I have been with Ipsy for almost 5 years (just under 5) and I have seen Ipsy in all its glory.  Having been with them for so long, I figured it was time to move on since I wasn’t quite getting the same experience out of my monthly bags as I once used to.  So, today I bring you my March Ipsy Glam Bag Reveal and my reasoning for unsubscribing.

March Ipsy Glam Bag 2015March’s Glam Bag – themed Floral Fantasy was based around gearing us all up for Spring.  For just $10 a month, Ipsy sends out a monthly subscription that includes everything from Indie and Drugstore brands to samples of highend cosmetics.  This month, my bag included a combination of all and I received two full sized products.

“Wake up your imagination with a crazy beautiful explosion of flowers.  Vivid shades and inviting textures collide this March.  Let the blooms begin.”

The bag itself is cute, though I would have loved to see more pink in the mix of the bag.  I had been seeing images from Ipsy Photoshoots including some of their brand ambassadors and would have loved to receive a bag with similar floral creations.  I wished the bag had included bolder floral pattern as those in the backdrops for the photoshoots, but nonetheless, this bag is still cute and I’m sure I’ll get use out of it.

Check out the video below for all the details 😀 Click here to watch directly on YouTube.

Included in my bag this month – I received:

Coolway Glow Oil Treatment – a sample size

NYX Butter Lipstick in Hunk – I failed to find this in my video so I didn’t mention it.  I have a swatch of this on my blog already – so you can check that out here.  This was a full sized product.  I have seen others get different shades, though I would have liked to see a color that looked a little bit more pink and on the Spring-like side.  I use this lippy for Fall, so I felt it was too dark for a spring look… just my opinion, though it can be used for spring months.

Marykay at Play teal me more eye crayon

MaryKay at Play Eye Crayon in Teal Me More – This product is full sized and I love the color.  It’s a little too creamy and will need to be set with a powder for longevity purposes but I enjoy it.

Marykay at Play teal me more eye crayon

Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels – I love the brand Skyn Iceland and was introduced to this brand through Ipsy.  I haven’t used these eye gels yet, but I’m very excited to try them out and I wish there were more than just 2 pairs in our Ipsy bag.  Being a Skyn fan, I’m sure I’ll be getting these in the future.

Laneige BB Cushion SPF 50 – I just recently seen these at my local Target.  Ipsy provided four samples, though I probably could only use one since they are all based on my skintone and provided in color range.  I haven’t tested this product before, but still found it interesting it made it into my bag considering I had marked foundation, concealers and BB’s, etc. as “Not For Me” at least a handful of times.

Overall I know I’ll get some use out of the products I got in my March Ipsy bag.  Since I already have the Hunk lippy I’ll be giving that to someone or putting in a future giveaway.  Should I test out the products, I’ll be sure to talk about them here in a future update.  Having been with Ipsy for so long, I think my subscription has run its course.  The monthly cost is just $10 – a total steal considering you will usually get over $30 worth of products each month.  But, after so many years, I think I found that a lot of the products I used to enjoy, I’m no longer wearing and some of the brands and I are not compatible.  Should Ipsy change in the future, I will definitely look into signing up again, but for now – I think I am happy that I have unsubscribed… no more samples that I need to find homes for.  Shipping for Ipsy took its toll as well.  At one time, I received my Ipsy bag on time and over the last year, I was getting it six to eight weeks after it was shipped.  While it wasn’t issues from Ipsy – I had noticed that anytime I received a bag with nail polish, perfume or aerosol, it slowed the shipment down as it needed to be sent parcel (by barge).  It was a challenge to ensure I was no longer getting these items and sometimes I just didn’t want to deal with it.  As mentioned before, I learned about a lot of brands I enjoy because of this subscription service – Skyn Iceland, Healthy Sexy Hair and many others were brands I tried for the first time because of Ipsy – so I’m glad I was a part of it while I was.

So – what subscription services do you have?  I find that because I live in Hawaii, shipping is always a challenge and in some cases, many of them do not send boxes to me.  But, I’m always interested in checking them out.  Leave you favorites below so I can see if they’re a match.

I have been a long time fan of NYX Cosmetics, having used their single eye shadows and lipsticks for quite a few years, but over the last year I have really loved the new products NYX has released.  Last year NYX rolled out their Infinite Shadow Sticks in nine different shades and I have three of them that I’m going to share with you today.  While these may seem similar to the Jumbo Eye shadow Pencils (JESP), these NYX Infinite Shadow Sticks are very different and offer something their jumbo eye shadow pencils do not.

NYX Infinite Shadow Sticks

The Infinite Shadow Sticks come in nine gorgeous shades that are geared more towards the wearable / neutral eye looks.  Each pencil (net wt. 0.19oz/5.27g) retails for $9.00 on the NYX website and about the same at Target and Ulta as well as other drugstore locations that carry the new NYX products.  These pencils are creamy, but don’t get it twisted, it’s very different from the creamy jumbo eye shadow pencils we are used to.  The shadow sticks set quickly and I love using them as a colored base or even on my eye lids without primer, because once they set, they don’t move on me.  If you are someone with watery eyes – try using these on your lower lash line to help smoke out your look, you will notice it will stay there all day as it has for me many many times.  While I’m a huge fan of JESP, I could not use them alone as they are so creamy, they move if they are not set or applied over primer… whereas these new pencils are meant to last – no movement, no budging until you take it off.

NYX Infinite Shadow Sticks

While creamy – the formula on these pencils is much drier than the jumbo eye shadow pencils, so you must blend it quickly or it will set and not move.  These really are smudge-proof (in my opinion) as the NYX claims and the shades available make for a great day or night look.  The color payoff and pigmentation on these – awesome!  I have my eyes on a few other shades I want to add to my collection as well.

NYX Infinite Shadow Sticks
Left to Right: Almond, Sweet Pink, Chocolate

While the packaging is a different material from the original jumbo eye shadow pencils, you can still easily sharpen these using a jumbo pencil sharpener.  I was pretty amazed at how easily they sharpened.  Using this product is as easy as any eye shadow pencil, simply apply the pencil directly to your eye lids and blend.  You can use this product alone or use as an eye shadow base.  Since my eye lids tend to be a bit dry, I like to apply a primer first then apply the infinite shadow stick over so that I can blend the pencil easier – but overall, using this product is simple.

I happen to like these a lot and I know I’ll continue to buy them in the future – hopefully collect a lot of my favorite shades as I have with the original NYX Jumbo Eye Shadow Pencils.  But, just a note – if you are looking for a similar type pencil from the drugstore but at a cheaper price point – I definitely suggest the Jordana 12 Hour Made to Last Eye shadow pencils.  I don’t have a review on those yet (coming soon – promise), but at $2.99 – even if the colors are not the same, it surely is a cheaper alternative and it will stay all day as well.  Either way – if I had to suggest a shade to pick up from the NYX Infinite Shadow sticks – I would suggest Almond which is such a gorgeous metallic shade perfect for every day or smoky looks.

In the look above, I have used NYX Infinite Shadow Stick in Chocolate as a base for part of my look.  You can view the details of this look as well as a tutorial for it here.  Have you tried the NYX Infinite Shadow Sticks before?  I like them a lot and think they will continue to be a favorite in my makeup arsenal.

I am pretty behind in sharing my monthly favorites.  Sadly I actually filmed a video for August favorites, uploaded it to YouTube and never got around to sharing it… so I decided I would delete it.  Honestly, do you know how many times that happens… I have so many videos I upload without release and realize 2 months or more later that the information I talked about or my thoughts on the subject are no longer accurate. lol Oh well, C’est la vie!  You can consider this my September Favorites… but it’s really a combination of products that I’ve been liking lately.  Without further adieu, let’s get busy. lol

july favs 2014

I know I say this each month, but man…  July sure flew by faster than ever and August is already proving to be traveling at lightning speed.  I had so much going on I really just forgot to post my Monthly Favorites here on my blog… so I am sharing it with all of you now.  Last month was a month of discovery because I tried out quite a bit of new products, most of which I found I immediately enjoyed.

Check out my video embedded below where I go through each product or click here to watch it directly on YouTube.

Check out the rundown of products for last month below.

July Beauty Favorites 2014

I did a review here on my blog of the Hask hair care products in Argan Oil and Keratin Protein.  After using other products for a few months, I find that I still enjoy this line and it has made a whole lot of difference on my hair since the sun has been doing a full beat down.  Check out my complete review for these products here, and definitely check out the line where you can find them at select stores – I have been picking up my masks at Walmart.

July Beauty Favorites 2014

I have a review coming soon on the Verona Color Switch.  This product is pretty genius and I think would be a great benefit for Makeup Artists especially.  It allows you to take your brush and swipe it through the product cleaning off excess product so you can use the brush again.  I especially love to use this when I used the brush originally to apply a color and then swipe it through the color switch so that I can blend the shade out without transferring additional product and causing a muddy effect on your eyes.  I also love that I can go from a dark shade like black to a light cream or white shade without mixing them.  It’s a great product and I hope to have the review done soon.

L’Oreal has hit a home run with Voluminous Miss Manga mascara.  It has quickly become one of my favorites because you can actually see my lashes when I use it and used in combination with one of my favorites… Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – they have become a pair made in heaven. lol

Kiss 11 Lashes have been my jam this past month… this is my third pair even with reuse and cleaning of previous pairs.  I love how affordable Kiss Lashes are, how thin the band is so it makes it near to impossible to detect you have them on and most importantly – how comfortable they are on the eyes.  I especially love that these are dupes to my favorite Ardell Demi Whispies… but a bit cheaper than they retail since I can get them in a larger pack if I can find it.

July Beauty Favorites - 2014

Of course, I have been loving the new Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Shadows.  If you have been following me at all in July – you would have seen my review, which you can find here, as well as a tutorial using a few of the shades I mentioned in my favorites which you can find here.  Bella Chiffon, Bella Sand and Bella Bronze have been some of the favorites I have been gravitating to this past month and I know they will surely be favorites for time to come.

L’Oreal Infalliable eye shadows have been a favorite now since first trying them earlier this year.  While I am smitten and in love with Iced Latte, Gilded Envy has been a shade I have been rockin’ out in July.  I love just applying it with a quick wash of color and blending Milani’s Bella Cappuccino in the crease for a sweet every day look.  I promise I’ll have a quick tutorial for that coming up soon.

July Beauty Favorites 2014

Through most of the summer I usually pull for my more nude shades and since I’m already on my second tube of Milani’s Nude Creme, I figured I needed to switch things up a bit and pull out some shades I haven’t been using all that much.  I purchased Bite Beauty’s Duo Lipstick in Lychee & Musk earlier this year and have really enjoyed the shades as well as the formulation.  Creamy, moisturizing and the colors are gorgeous.  The only downfall is that the formulation of these lippies are so darn soft, the warm summer heat has been doing a number on them and I know that soon I’ll be needing to apply these lip colors with a lip brush because the lipstick is getting bent out of shape.  They are naturally soft so even without summer, they were already starting to warp.  Regardless, for the price tag I am loving these and I think that anyone would enjoy them.

Of course, NYX’s Butter Lipsticks have been a favorite for months.  I have been pulling for Pops much more now then I did any other time.  I have a review for this lipstick here and if you are someone who likes nudes, this may be a great addition to your collection.  Creamy, soft and buttery on the lips, it’s been a favorite of mine all month.

July Beauty Favorites 2014

After purchasing my Lorac Pro 2 Palette last month, I instantly fell in love.  The shades are perfect for year round because they are soft and wearable… you can easily use most of them for all over the lid one wash shades.  I love that there are a few bold shades as well.  I have a review of this palette coming soon as well as a tutorial coming up using colors that I have been rocking all month long together:  Rose, Mocha, Cool Gray, Nectar & Plum.  This is surely becoming a favorite palette of mine and will take it’s place right next to #1 in my Holy Grail pile.

Of course, we all know I’m about that Vanilla Cake scents.  I have been a long time fan of Pacifica and their Island Vanilla scent has been a top scent for me the last 2 1/2 years.  I haven’t used anything else but this scent all month long in July.

July Lifestyle Favorites 2014

Last but not least are my Lifestyle Favorites.  As I mentioned in my video, the boys have been enjoying listening to Magic’s Rude on the radio so it has become a favorite of ours in the house.  I think it’s beyond adorable when twin 4 year olds and a 10 year old knows all the words to a popular song and they love it.  I have been also getting great use out of my Glasstic Water bottle.  I have a review for it here, and definitely recommend it to anyone – especially people who love infused waters.  It has been a lifesaver for me to carry around my drink in this heat.

Last but not least is my Cafe Press Customized Plus Size V-Neck T-shirt.  I designed this last month and have been enjoying it.  I think Black and Gold are such a great combination and I have been loving the simplicity and the statement.  I’ll try to remember to post a quick Outfit of the Day the next time I wear it.  The fabric is breathable, it’s cut and fits this plus size gal really well and it’s personalized.  I love it.  You can check out more information about creating your own shirt or many other things here.

Overall – even if July flew by so quickly and August is here… I am thankful that I accomplished so much in the month.  The twins are off to school as well as my eldest and all started on August 1st so the house has been quiet during the day, and I miss them so much.  Our summers are always filled with fun and this summer was surely no exception.  From hitting the beach, to the park to just cruising and enjoying our time together – I was certainly sad to see it all go (excuse me while I tear up a bit), but all three boys were so excited for school (I’ll have more of that in another post this week).  It’s times like this when I reflect back on a previous month that I realize how awesome life is and I’m glad for Monthly Favorites that allow me to reflect on the month previously.  My number one favorite that I didn’t mention in my video – time!  The past two months has given me awesome and quality time with my littles and my husband… that overall, is the best favorite of all.

Ooh – Summer is in full swing here in Hawaii with its hot and warm sunny days and bronzed beauties gracing the beaches, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite Nude Lipsticks.  Originally – I had considered this to be my Top 5 Nude Lipsticks of all time… but since I am a lipstick hoarder and absolutely obsessed, I figured it may just change.  So I bring to you my Top 5 Nude Lipsticks for Summer 2014.

Top 5 Nude Lipsticks Summer 2014

Check out my video below as I talk about my Top 5 Nude Lipsticks for Summer 2014 and even provide swatches.  Click here to watch directly on YouTube.  I am super excited because I’ll be having more “Top 5” videos coming soon – so stay tuned.

Lipsticks Mentioned:

YSL (Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte) – Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick SPF 15 – $35 in 03 Beige Ultimate

MAC (Makeup Art Cosmetics) – Lipstick in High Tea (lustre) – $16

Milani Cosmetics Color Statement Lipstick in Nude Creme (Cream finish) – $4 to $6

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Nude Attitude (Matte) – $5 to $8

NYX Round Lipstick in Circe (Cream) – $5 to $6

Top 5 Nude Lipsticks Summer 2014

When it comes to nude shades, I try to have a balance and include shades that are almost a Mauve nude tone to those that almost “white out” my lips.  But during the summer, I am much darker due to my days spent in the sun so I can pull off lighter shades that I could not normally do during the Winter months.  When I select nude lipsticks and they become my favorites, I tend to gravitate to those that lend for a pink tone through out.

Top 5 Nude Lipsticks Summer 2014

What are your favorite nude lipsticks to rock out during the summer months?  Are any of my favorites your favorites as well?  Are any of my favorites new to you or have you added it to your list to try them out?

I have tried a bunch of different foods and listened to a lot of different songs this past month – but one that my sons have been loving a lot has been Lucky from Daft Punk and Happy by Pharrell Williams… so I will share one with you all.

I’m super excited that summer is here and we are in full swing of Summer break.  Hope you are all enjoying some warm weather.  I am hoping that I can start doing my Friday Favs again and that should help eliminate my super long list.  Wishing you all a wonderful week and day!

Signature Honey

Yes, it is public knowledge that I have a thing for purple.  Purple is my favorite color and I am super duper intrigued by purple lippies and tend to need them as soon as I see them.  Recently NYX Cosmetics rolled out their new Macaron lippies.  I caught sight of the purple shades and I absolutely know I had to have them.  NYX rolled these awesome lipsticks out in 12 shades, but I knew that I wouldn’t really make use of the others so I passed and placed my order.  Since NYX only ships to Hawaii with a $25 flat rate fee, I shipped it to a friend and then eagerly awaited its delivery.

NYX Macaron Lipsticks Violet and Lavender

Looking for fun daring shades of lipstick to add to your makeup collection at an affordable price tag?  Well, NYX recently came up with a solution for us makeup obsessed people who love experimenting with fun and exciting shades.  Newly released – the NYX Cosmetics Macaron lipsticks have already been a huge rave among those in the beauty and makeup community.  These colors – available in 12 different shades are daring, bold and not for the faint of heart, but surely show-stopping and most importantly – affordable.  Check out my video below for live “try-on” swatches or click here to watch them directly on YouTube.

For just $6.00 you can go bold this summer with shades that will surely attract attention.  Now available at Ulta.com ($5.99) or at your local Ulta Store and possibly at select drug stores, you can find these shades and pick one or all that suit your fancy.  I chose Violet (which NYX labels as a Royal Purple) and Lavender (NYX labels as a Lavender purple) and so far I am enjoying the formulation of each as well as the color pay-off.

NYX Cosmetics Macaron Lipsticks Violet and Lavender

Violet is a gorgeous purple shade (shown on the left in my photo above) – my absolute favorite of the two.  It applies nicely on the lips and is definitely the more wearable of the two shades, though it is still quite bold.  The color goes on evenly, has a slight gloss look to them (definitely not matte) with a cream type finish.  If worn with a fuchsia lip liner, this shade could definitely be a great one to rock out year round.  This lipstick applies very nicely and one swipe of the color on your lips can lend for an even application and full coverage.  I think it is much more wearable with just one layer, but adding a second layer on top will give the lipstick a bolder shade that you may be looking for.  This lipstick was the easiest to work with between the two.

Lavender is definitely a bold lavender shade.  It was probably the one that was most difficult for me to wear between the two.  This lipstick settles into the lines of my lips a lot, even if my lips are completely moisturized and exfoliated.  As you can see in my video, it was harder to apply.  This is definitely a shade that I would suggest you wear over a lip primer, or if you don’t use primer on your lips – then conceal or apply foundation prior to application of this lipstick.  Lipsticks with these kind of milky white look to them usually include a white based pigment to help give it its color, and I think that is why they tend to be harder to wear.  A blue or pink would lend for the same if the white pigment was used in them as well.  To create a nice even application, I definitely needed to take my time to apply the lipstick and then apply two layers to get an even and full coverage look.  The lipstick is definitely full coverage in one swipe, but it can be a bit patchy and apply unevenly.

Packaging is cute and looks very similar to that of the NYX Matte Lipsticks except instead of the black of the tube being matte (like on the matte lippies), it is shiny.  The Violet lipstick tube didn’t seem to want to stay up when I twisted the lipstick up – which sucks, but I think it is just a dud in that department and not necessarily the packaging for all in a nut shell.

These lipsticks seem like they are matte based with a cream finish, and because of this I didn’t have any issues with it drying out my lips and my lips felt moiturized for the time I had the lipsticks on.  Each lip color did move around on my lips a lot however, so I do suggest you using a lip liner to help keep it in check, or definitely prime your lips prior to application.  The pigmentation is awesome on each shade I received, but the color doesn’t last very long and reapplication is definitely a must if you are eating or drinking.  You can expect about an hour use out of these without too much movement.  Violet does stain slightly, not not enough to call it a stain… that is why I think it is a matte based pigment that was made creamy.

Overall – at $6.00 a piece and a “technically” drugstore product, I am pretty amazed with the quality of these lipsticks.  I may consider picking up Rose (the pink shade) just to have it, but I’m not quite sold on the other shades to warrant picking them up yet.  I think that they are pretty nice and good quality and since they are making waves in the bold and bright department when it comes to drug store – it shows me that it is much more promising for other drugstore companies to bring out bolder shades that highend brands offer.  If you are a makeup artist or someone that just loves bold lips, I think these would be pretty great for you to add to your stash.

Have you tried these macaron lipsticks yet?  If so – which ones do you have?  If not, are there any that you are interested in?

This week I wanted to create a look using products from my May Ipsy Glam Bag – Fresh Picks.  Since the theme is super cute, I thought this would be a great way to show a flirty side of me.  I chose to name my look “My Secret Garden” because I used inspiration from one of my favorite Books and Movies – The Secret Garden.  Spring and Summer remind me of floral scents and flowers in an array of colors.  Purple being my favorite color, I decided a purple and white-gold look would be fitting for a soft and wearable creation.  It kind of reminds me of the Jacaranda that grow so heavily here in the Spring time and grace our roads and lawns with beautiful lavender flowers.

The Secret Garden inspired Makeup using Ipsy Glam bag

I have a really hard time making up my mind – so I thought I would use a few different florals to style my  pictures.  Utilizing the goodies I received in my May Ipsy Glam Bag, I created a look that I thought would incorporate the items perfectly.

Many say that my makeup looks all seem to mesh together and look the same, but I like it – because makeup is about style and creativity… and most importantly – it’s about beauty.  Check out my makeup tutorial for this look embedded below or click here to watch it directly on YouTube.  A list of products used can be found in this post.  I hope you enjoy!

April was a month filled with a bunch of beauty favorites.  I have been shopping my stash lately so it has been a month that I have rediscovered old friends and had fun using them again after putting them aside for so long.  The thing about blogging about beauty products is that I tend to get so excited about the new stuff, sometimes I forget all about the things and products that I enjoyed in the past so it is so nice to rediscover them again.

April Beauty and Foodie Favorites 2014

This month I had a mix of Beauty and Foodie Favorites.  My video was so long as it is that I forgot to also talk about my favorite music or songs that I have been listening to or movies I have been watching, but I’ll try to list those at the bottom of this post.  Ultimately – while I did include many new products in last month’s favorites, there are also many older ones that I’m excited to be picking out this time around.

So – check out what made my April Beauty Favorites and Foodie Loves in the video embedded below or watch it directly on YouTube here.  I did list them as well if you are interested in getting a brief run down.  Not all photos of each product are listed on the image.

My favorites for the month of April included:

  • Snap Pea Crisps – These snacks are addicting and delicious.  My family enjoys them and we have been reaching for them pretty often over the course of the last few months.
  • Brookside Dark Chocolate Acai berries – I am not a HUGE chocolate fan, but I’m certainly fond of it and the first time I tried this yummy goodie, I was completely hooked.  It’s delicious, satisfies that little chocolate craving I have from time to time and we all enjoy it in our house.
  • Pacifica Coconut Nectar Body Butter – Pacifica Body Butters are some of my favorites and I am a frequent buyer of this brand.  I seriously love the scent of coconut and this smells yummy.
  • Aquolina Pink Sugar EDT – It’s no secret I’m an addict when it comes to sugary scents… and this is at the top of the list.
  • E35 Tapered Blending Brush by Sigma Beauty – I’ve been a fan of Sigma brushes for a while and this one is probably one of my favorites!
  • E71 Highlight Diffuser Brush by Sigma Beauty – This brush really applies my browbone highlight nice and I enjoy using it.
  • E39 Buff and Blend Brush by Sigma Beauty – An all around brush that is great for blending.  I use it on my eyes as well as to contour.
  • MAC Eye Shadows – including Antiqued, Bronzed, Brun (a few old favorites)  – I have been a huge fan of MAC shadows for years and I have been pulling at these a lot lately over the last month.
  • Chela Dazzling Dark Brown Eye Pencil (brows) – I really wasn’t a huge fan of this pencil when I first received it so it sat in my makeup stash for a few months, but it’s slowly growing on me.
  • NYC Liquid Liner (an old favorite) – no explanation needed, I have been a fan of this liner for years and find myself consistently going back for more.
  • NYC HD Liquid Eyeliner – a new favorite to my liner collection.  This liner applies smoothly and is quick for a on-the-go liner.
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Liner in Black Velvet – I love Perversion and Zero, but have really enjoyed using this one.  It is not as black as the others which I like for every day looks or to make my lashes look thicker.
  • Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Waterproof Mascara – I decided to pick up this mascara after seeing all my blogger buddies pick it up.  I picked up the waterproof version and so far I’m liking it.  I’m still in the testing stages – but a review, coming soon.
  • Covergirl TruMagic Sunkisser Cream Bronzer – I was on the hunt for a cream bronzer and I was able to test the texture of this and loved it.  It’s great for every day or to bump it up – I top it with my favorite powder bronzer.
  • Milani Warm Petals Rose Powder Blush – This product will be mentioned many times over the next few months I’m sure.  It was a favorite of mine all summer last year and even after heavy use, I barely put a dent in it.
  • MAC Sunbasque Sheer tone blush – One of my all time Holy Grail blushes… nuff said!
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette  – I’m so glad I decided to invest in this palette.  Radiant is my favorite but I love them all… they feel great on my skin and I love the glow they provide.  I can’t wait to get my hands on the Diffused Light.
  • NYX Sunkissed Radiant Face Powder – I discussed this in a recent post and how much I adore it.  Seriously for the price you get a great product that offers such a gorgeous glow to your skin.  Seriously – this will continue to be a favorite of mine.
  • Perfekt Beauty Lash Perfection Gel – I tried this mascara for the first time about a year ago and I’ve been hooked since.  It is definitely one of my favorites and I have already purchased several tubes to replace.
  • Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Bare Naked – I got this mini in one of my Sephora Give Me More Lip and I have seriously been loving it. No sticky-icky on the lips and it’s a really nice nude shade.
  • MAC Lip Glass in Viva Glam VI – I really loved this Viva Glam VI collection since I got my hands on it. I mentioned in my video that they are hard to find, but I can order them online, my local MAC counter just hasn’t had them in stock.
  • MAC Lip Glass in Nymphette – this has been a favorite of mine for years… and I know I will continue to pick it up when my tubes are empty.

So those were my Beauty and Foodie favorites for the month of April.  I know this entire summer will be about shopping my stash and rediscovering products I loved but neglected over the last year.  Did you have a long list of favorites this month?  Any of the products on my list made your favorites too?

I know that the “butter” lippy phase has been a pretty popular one lately and from Revlon Lip butters to now NYX’s new line of lippies, they can be found everywhere.  A few months ago I picked up the NYX Butter Lip Balm in Panna Cotta and decided I would give it a try.  I wasn’t very impressed with the other colors I seen online and since getting new NYX products means ordering online, I decided I would only get one.  I was pretty impressed with the NYX Lip Balms I tried last year (review can be found here) and had hoped these would be similar but with a better texture but was surprised with the similarities.

NYX Butter Lip balm

The NYX Butter Lip Balms retail on NYX’s website for $4.00 (not a bad price in my opinion) and there are eight colors available to choose from.  Each color offers a sheer to buildable wash of color – though because of its buttery texture, I noticed that the balm was not as buildable in pigmentation as I had expected.  In comparison to the regular tinted balms they had last year, these seem to be much more sheer in pigment.

INGREDIENTS / INGRÉDIENTS: Mineral Oil / Paraffinum Liquidum/ Huile Minérale, Ceresin, Polybutene, Octyldodecanol, Synthetic Wax,Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Silica, Petrolatum, PentaerythritylTetraisostearate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower ) Seed Oil, Stearoxymethicone / Dimethicone Copolymer, EuphorbiaCerifera (Candelilla) Wax / Candelilla Cera / Cire de Candelilla, Beeswax /Cera Alba / Cire d’abeille, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Bisabolol, Fragrance/ Parfum, Citral, Linalool, Limonene. MAY CONTAIN / PEUT CONTENIR (+/-): Mica, TitaniumDioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499), Red 6 (CI 15850), Red7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15985), Yellow 5Lake (CI 19140).

The butter balm feels nice on the lips and applied very easily.  If I had to compare, they kind of remind me of very sheer Revlon Lip Butters… the feeling felt the same on my lips but lacked the color payoff that Revlon Lip Butters provided.  While my lips felt very moisturized, I did feel the need to reapply the butter lip balm several times through out the day, whereas other Lip balms, I need only apply in the morning or at night.  My lips didn’t feel dry – but felt like it was needed to have something added to it through out the day  (if that makes any sense).

Overall – I think the price point is pretty okay for the amount of product you are getting and I love the wash of color you get from using this.  While it did offer my lips a fair amount of moisture, I felt the constant need to reapply it as needed.  I keep my balm in my purse and enjoy that while it gets left in my car sometimes, it hasn’t melted on me, like some butter lipsticks or similar textured products can do.  I like the Balm and may purchase another in the future if I feel the need, but it’s not something I would run out to get just because and definitely not a product I will rush out to buy just to collect them all (makeup addict).  If you are the type of person that wants something moisturizing on the lips, affordable and offers a nice tint of color – this may be something you like.

NYX Sunkissed Radiant Finishing Powder

I am always on the hunt for blush, bronzer and highlighters.  I honestly don’t know what my fascination is with all of those, but I just have a darn addiction to makeup in general – so I just chuck it all up as such.  Most that know me know that Laura Geller’s Baked Highlighters are my favorite and I am also a huge fan of Milani, but after having the opportunity to try out NYX’s Sunkissed Radiant Finishing Powder – I have added a new favorite to my list.

Recently, NYX released a plethora of goodies for their Spring 2014 launch.  Many of these products were available for a few months now and I’ve been having fun with the NYX Sunkissed Radiant Finishing Powder for about 5 months or so and have been enjoying it.  Retailing for just $9.00 on NYX’s website and available in both Sunkissed (pictured) and Brighten – these new products are pretty cool additions to the line.  You can find these on NYXCOSMETICS.COM or on Ulta.com for about the same price and if you are lucky to find new NYX goodies in your local store – you may be able to grab one for you there too.

Check out my video below for a quick review on the product as well as a demo on how it applies so you can see what it’s all about.  You can click here to watch directly on YouTube as well.

Thank you for watching! Don’t forget to Subscribe, Comment and Like if you enjoyed it! 😉

NYX Sunkissed Radiant Finishing Powder

Obviously from the video (if you watched it) you can tell that I’m quite smitten over this product.  First let’s talk about the cost… totally affordable right?  Then, it offers a great highlight as well as a nice bronzed look if that is what I’m going for.  If this can be achieved on my medium to dark skin – I’m truly amazed.  Most drug store products don’t offer colors deep enough to match my skintone perfectly and when it comes to highlighter, it often can appear to white and ashy when applied.  I love the fact that this powder offers a few shades in range from warm and cool with great highlighting shades that have gold light reflecting capabilities.  This not only offers me a great all over powder if I need it to be but is a great multi-tasker as I am able to highlight, contour and even add a light blush to my cheeks.

Add natural radiance to any complexion for a healthy glow with this luminous collection of bronze, rose and gold toned powders. Soft, smooth, lightweight and luxurious, this all-over powder is comfortable to wear anytime anywhere.

NYX Radiant Finishing Powder

I tried my best to get photos that would provide a sample of what the powder looked like on my skin and took the photo you see above of my cheek bones where you can see that soft glow it offers.  While on video – I love how this powder offers an almost diffused look to my cheeks, with a soft glow.  It’s really awesome considering the price tag you get.  In the photo below – I took a screen capture of my video where I demoed the product.  What I love so much about this powder is how well it captures and holds the light reflecting back so nicely.  I still have a warmth about my face, I don’t look ghostly and it doesn’t offer any flash back like other shimmery type powders can do.  The tutorial for the eye look in these photos can be found here.

NYX Sunkissed Radiant Finishing Powder

The product itself has a soft buttery like texture and while you may not be able to tell from the photos, but each shade has gold shimmer – but not enough to make you look like a disco ball while wearing the product.  When swatched, each color offers up a very bold look (i.e. the creamy white looks like a bright cream shade when swatched), but applied with a brush and blended nicely, it creates a really nice glow and highlight that looks wonderful.  Keep in mind you definitely want to blend this product well using a brush that will lightly buff the product onto the areas you are applying it to.  Because of the shimmer – you can experience a little bit of powdery fall out – but for the most part, I haven’t found that to be an issue at all and sweeping it away from your skin with a brush leaves you with a gorgeous glow.

NYX Sunkissed Radiant Finishing Powder SwatchesIn the compact, the Pink shade offers up a baby pink hue that looks almost too bright for me to pull off (just me being honest), but working with the other shades in the palette and blending them together – they all work well and compliment my skin tone nicely.  I am very impressed with the staying power that this powder offers, especially since I use it on my bare skin (no primer or foundation) and it clings well and lasts for at least 6-8 hours with normal wear.  When I use the bronzer portion of the compact on its own – I’m also super impressed that it did not oxidize on my skin, shimmery bronzers can do that to me very easily.

Overall – I think this powder is a great and affordable alternative if you are looking to add luminosity, radiance and glow (highlight) to your makeup look without a costly price tag.  Considering that it is a drugstore product and cost under $10, it reminds me of some of my higher end brands.  If you are on the hunt to try something new or if you are just a makeup lover like me that loves to sport that “glow from within” look – I definitely think this is something you should check out.  So – do you think you could give this product a try?  Are you a NYX lover like me?  I’ll be getting my hands on the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders Palette in the next few days – I can’t wait to see how this NYX Sunkissed Powder compares.
