I can’t seem to figure out why I love pairing jeans with a t-shirt, but it’s a love of mine I can’t seem to overcome. The great thing about wearing jeans (in any wash, really) is that you can dress it up or down. Jeans pants are seriously that one staple item in the closet that goes with just about anything. I’m all about that casual flair and vibe this outfit gives off and while it may not be other’s cup of tea, I’ll rock it.
As a busy mom, I am usually rocking out a messy bun (we call it a tita bun here in Hawaii), shorts and a t-shirt on a daily basis, but I like to take my casualness and turn it up, if even only a notch. lol
As many of you know, I’m a total Potter Head. No, I’m not talking about the green stuff, I mean Harry Potter, silly… lol. This tee from the Harry Potter Collection was found at Walmart and was less than $10, so it was not only a bargain, but I fell in love with it. And, did I mention that it is a 2XL? It’s nice and slouchy on me (which I enjoy) and it fits, woohoo! When I wear any of my Harry Potter tees, I’m not sure why but I tend to pair my outfits with my Alex and Ani bracelets. I think they go well together and just offer great vibes all around.
The Outfit Details
Besides my Harry Potter Hogwarts Alumni Tee, I’m also using Refuge Skinny Jeans from Charlotte Russe in a size 16. These jeans are super comfy and I love the dark wash of the denim. They are also high-waisted which is perfect for my tummy area. To bump up this casual outfit a little more to something dressier and sexier, I added a pair of Hide and Peep Heels in Black from a local store here in Hawaii called Jeans Warehouse. My accessories are quite simplistic (as they usually are) so as I mentioned above I am using my Alex and Ani Bracelets with this outfit. For my watch, I’m using one of my Invicta Angel’s with a Black Silicone band and to carry all my mommy gear and essentials, I have been using my Coach Backpack. For sunglasses, I’m using a pretty affordable pair from Zoo York shades.
My makeup was quite simplistic as it usually is. I’ve been loving a fresh look with just mascara and a lippy lately. I’ve been also loving the Essence Cosmetics Water Kiss Glossy Lip Colors. I’m using a blend of Aquatic Chic and Mermaid Diary on my lips. Of course, for mascara my go-to’s are the L’Oreal Voluminous Base topped with the Essence Cosmetics The False Lash Mascara, Lash Princess and Volume Stylist. Can you see a trend here? I really am a HUGE fan of Essence and I’m so glad that we have an Ulta here now so I can actually buy their products on island. For my brows, I’m using the Beauty Junkees Tinted Brow Gel (another go-to).
Be sure to check out the video on YouTube (embedded below) for what I wore the week I used this outfit. I’ll be posting more of these in the future.

I can’t count how many times I have been told that Plus sized gals don’t belong in shorts. It’s the summer ya’all… and it’s way too hot so I’ll wear it if I have it. The fact is, I live in shorts if I can find a pair that suits the rest of my outfit and as many know who follow this blog – I’m a casual and laid back soul who loves to dress according to what makes me feel comfortable, not what others think I should wear. Before I became “plus sized” I actually wore a lot of shorts or lived most of my teenage life in a bikini, because I like to be cool and this is Hawaii, where most people are lightly clothed, lol. So, while my thighs are thick, I like them to be free and cool, so summer means either shorts or dresses. Today, I remind you all that plus size girls can wear shorts too… with a quick summer plus size casual outfit.
Earlier in the month I got a really cute ribbon crusher hat in white from Scala Pronto and thought that my casual, but functional look for the day would be the perfect marriage. Since the boys and I were out and about playing tourist on our island, I thought – why not strut my stuff in a fun hat with a comfy outfit to pair with it.
The #LC511 Hat is a wide brim hat that is lightweight. It includes a sewn-ribbon design and also provides SPF 50 protection which makes it perfect to pair with your summer outfits or year round. It has a pretty tie at the back with an interior swear band for all-day comfort while wearing and includes colors in white, black, turquoise, poppy and fuchsia. This is the ideal accessory for the pool and beach as well as a casual (like I’m wearing) or dress up style.

Flip Flops: Lisa Frank from Shoeminded.com
Watch: Invicta Angel

Now, I know what you’re thinking… “But, Honey – isn’t that a workout or active wear shirt?” Well, Yes and that is the whole reason I wore it today, hence the word “active wear”. Don’t you know that running after three kids is major cardio? Hahaha! I needed something I could move in because keeping up with the boys while they are on Summer break means I have to be ready in an instant and constantly on my toes… but, don’t worry about me, I digress! It’s cool and comfy but loose enough to allow me to really be active and have some fun with my littles. And, I happen to like the saying on it, who doesn’t like a cute graphic tank anyway?
Growing up in Hawaii, being a surfer girl and tomboy for most of my life has really allowed me to embrace the casual island living. I’m not gonna lie, you will catch me in a tank and shorts or a dress most of the year if I’m not rocking out a pair of jeans. I love it and I love that I can be comfortable and get down and dirty with my sons if the time calls for me to do so. While I’m not a size 7 like I used to be, I still use shorts and I think plus size gals like myself shouldn’t be ashamed to use shorts too. It’s comfortable and don’t we deserve to be comfy, especially during the summer?
So what about you? Do you find yourself rocking out a pair of shorts, graphic tank, flip flops and a cute hat this summer? Comment below and let me know what you’re wearing while out and about and playing tourist this summer?

It’s no secret that when it comes to fashion, anything I wear or use must not only be functional but also comfortable. Sometimes I feel like my laid back lifestyle has me too lax and often it can be a bit basic, but I love taking basics and turning them into something fun and fashionable. I’m born and raised in Hawaii so most of my life you could find me in a bikini or bathing suit with board shorts and a surf board, but now that I’ve changed things up a bit, I try to add a little more flair to what has become comfortable. While what I wear may be simple, consisting of mostly basics to allow for me to change up from time to time – I love to add handbags that will give me a sense of style and freedom at the same time. Accessories can make or break a look easily so here is what I do to take a basic outfit and jazz it up a bit. Here’s my plus size outfit featuring Miche Bag to compliment the look.
First, I start off with a basic look. Today I have decided that I wanted to use one of my favorite black strapless dresses but have a little cover up for a fun and casual look.
Black Empire Waist Jersey Strapless Dress – Old Navy
Denim Vest with Cut sleeves – Forever21 Plus
Since Flip flops are pretty much the go to for most looks here in Hawaii, I decided that would be a great choice not only for comfort but also for style. I decided to go with a platform/wedge style flip flop to add a dressier flare to the look
Black Flip Flops – Guess Sabell Platform Flip flops
No outfit is complete without some accessories and for me I wanted it to be simple, basic but still add a little flare. If you have been following this blog or my YouTube channel a while, then you know I’m pretty simple and usually will have the same type of necklace or watch for my daily style. Today I switched up my watch and included something that would be fun and add a little bit of swagger to my look.
Last but not least – it’s all about the handbags. It’s no secret that I’m a huge handbag fanatic… my husband can attest to that (teehee), and I’m always looking for the perfect bag to help accommodate all of my personal and mommy needs as well as be functional and stylish. About 5 years ago I was introduced to Michebags and immediately fell in love with not only the quality – but the styles and the price. Let’s just say that I love these bags so much that I own two different sizes and over 12 shells… ssshhh… don’t tell the pocket book. lol
Miche bag’s concept is easy… You purchase a base bag (in my case, this is the Prima base bag) and then you purchase a shell to go with it. The idea was developed by a women who wanted to be able to change out her bag easily without having to pull all the contents of her bag out. You simply pull your base bag out of your shell and put it in a new one and you are good to go.
Miche Prima Shell in Carmen – a brown caramel shade bag with gold accents
Miche Prima Shell in Maria – a gorgeous cream and print bag with gold accents
Each bag is so easy to get in and out of to switch out you can easily go from day to night and it takes just seconds. I am wearing my Miche bags pictured with the regular black handles and gold chain links to add to the gold accent. These bags are not only functional, they are affordable.
Miche Prima Base bag: $29.99
Miche Prima Shell: Range between $40 and $100
Miche Accessories: Range between $9 and $20
If this bag is too large for you – do not worry, this is the largest size Miche carries but there are a variety of sizes available from their Petite, Classic and Demi. Also, Miche offers different colors in their handles as well as their chains and Carabiners so you have endless options to switch up your style and preference. Each strap, handle, carabiner and hardware is interchangeable with any of the shells and the shells are seasonal so you can expect to see new styles rolled out several times a year. Fashionable and on-trend, Miche is definitely a great selection for those who love handbags and want to keep their look fresh.
Check out Miche and their styles by heading over the their website: www.miche.com
Now – just because I have a really relaxed style, doesn’t mean you can’t jazz up a similar look with say a pair of strappy heels or wedges or even a larger necklace for a statement piece. What I love about style is that it is just like makeup and it’s all about the individual and their preferences.
Also – be sure to check out the Miche Hope Collection – inspired by those affected by Cancer, a portion of the proceeds from sales of the collection go directly to cancer research and other charities.
So – what are your favorite types of things to wear during the Spring time? And, have you heard of Miche Bag? If you love handbags like me, definitely head on over to the site and check out what they have to offer. I’ve been a fan of their products for a few years and with a pretty big collection, it definitely states how much I love and enjoy the brand and their products.
I hope you enjoyed this post. It seems like a whiles since I have posted outfits but I’m slowly getting back in the groove again. Don’t forget to stop by and check out my video (click here to watch) – I hope you like it.
I’m a little behind in posting this but it has been a crazy week and I haven’t been feeling well. However, since it is Friday (Happy Aloha Friday), I figured I could share a little Foodie love and Fashion. This past Sunday was Mother’s Day and my husband and sons surprised me with an awesome Brunch at the Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort. This location is one of my favorites because the grounds are gorgeous and the Spa and Terme are one of my favorites to go a few times a year for a little “me” time. This was the first time we attended their brunch and I’m so glad we had the opportunity to experience it.
The Grand Wailea Resort and Spa is located on the South Side of Maui in Wailea. It is a gorgeous resort with grounds that are not only breathe-taking, but a playground for all ages. It is also located on one of the most beautiful beaches Maui has to offer.
My family and I have been to the resort on many occasions whether as a stay-cation, attend weddings at their chapel, dine or play in the pools or spa but we have never been to their brunch. This brunch occurs every Sunday, but this year they tried something different and had a Sangria bar especially for Mother’s Day. Their buffet includes everything from Prime Rib and Crab legs to a plethora of seafoods, local dairy cheeses, waffles and pancakes and so much more. I apologize for not having any photos of the food as I was too caught up in making my plate I completely forgot.
I was able to capture the dessert bar which was just as delicious and included everything from macarons to cake pops and everything in between. Scrumptious treats for a great day.
Stop on by the site to see what their entire menu includes – I’m sure you’ll be drooling just reading it. Their menu can be found here. After Brunch, my family and I took a stroll through the grounds to walk off a full tummy. It was such a beautiful day.
The Grand Wailea is known for their many pools and this is one of them. You can’t swim in this pool of course, but it’s a gorgeous landscape feature that is quite popular for photos. We just couldn’t resist.
Love my guys! My husband, sons and I do everything together – even anniversaries are celebrated together. We are just a close family overall. It was such a nice treat to have a Mother’s Day brunch with the ones I love.
The boys are all dressed casually wearing denim shorts from Old Navy and their favorite graphic t-shirts or plain t’s. My husband is sporting a pair of Khaki Cargo Shorts from Dickies and a shirt from Maui Tropix.
For my outfit – I went with something I knew would be comfortable and still cool since it was pretty warm that day.
Loose Fit Peplum style top – Old Navy
Black Pencil Skirt – Forever 21
Platform Flip flop sandals – Steve Madden
Watch – Invicta
Necklace, Earrings – Amethyst and Sterling Silver Jewelry that was my Mother’s Day Gift from my Husband and Sons
Pandora Style Bracelet – Muwae Jewelry
Purse/Handbag – Miche Prima Bag with Farrah Shell
My makeup for the day was quite simple. It included some mascara (Benefit Roller Lash) and a quick wash of shimmer over the lid, I used the Colour Pop eye shadow in XO (from the Shaaanxo Collection). On my lips I used just lip balm since I knew I would be stuffing my face with food… lol.
It was an absolutely wonderful day. And not only was my tummy happy – but I enjoyed every single part of it. We left the resort and headed home to relax and enjoy our time together.
Ha Ha! We were photo-bombed! My eldest son is such a goofy guy. Of course we stopped for a quick pic while waiting for Valet to bring our car around.
Each mother received an orchid flower (or as we call them in Hawai’i – pua) to put in our hair.
For dinner that evening my husband prepared for me his Pork Loin, smothered in mushrooms and homemade mushroom gravy with a side of garlic asparagus. It is one of my favorites and I had been craving it for a few weeks so he picked up the supplies to make it for me. MMM MMM YUM!
It was such a wonderful day and I wish that every Mother out there had a day that they not only enjoyed but also cherished. I am a proud mom and so thankful for my children. My pregnancies were all difficult and my children are definitely God’s gifts to us.
Hold on… let me pose for a quick Powder Room selfie – haha!

Summer time has got me running around spending quality time with my family so I haven’t had the opportunity to post any Plus Sized Fashion and Style looks for quite a while. I am hoping I can kick it in high gear and get it together because I know that I’ve been slacking in that department.
I can’t believe my eldest son goes back to school in less than a month and the twins start preschool on the same day. This summer is flying by – I swear I need to get into a time machine and go back in time so I can live in the past for a little while. lol But nonetheless, my family and I are enjoying the time we have. The outfit I’m wearing in this week’s Fashion post is simple and I’m bummed to say that I forgot my good camera and only had my cell phone to take pictures – sorry about that. I hope you enjoy the outfit and the video is just 30 seconds or so long – so you can check that out too. Have a wonderful week!
What I’m using:
Striped High Low Maxi Dress: Forever 21 Plus
Denim Vest: Old Navy
Flip flops – flats: Guess
Makeup of the Day:
L’Oreal Miss Manga Mascara and Milani Brilliant Shine lip gloss in Bare Naked
While I can honestly say I wish we had some snow here… one things for certain, I do love that Hawaii Winter weather allows me to dress comfortably. I can’t complain, I am truly lucky to be able to live in Paradise and while I do get tired of the slow-mo pace that I have grown up with all my life… I do know that I would miss Paradise if I decided to give it all up. Let’s be honest… it’s beautiful here and I can’t complain about that.
I am a maxi dress and skirt addict. I was told once by a friend that Maxi skirts make plus sized girls look bigger than they really are. Well, if that’s the case… I don’t care because this is the ensemble that allows me to still look dressy, feel casual and run after my 4 year old twins. If I’m not in a pair of jeans, leggings or sweats… you can find me sporting a maxi skirt and a comfy top. I look at it this way… to me, “Fashion means Comfortable, Just like beauty – if I’m not comfortable in my own skin, why wear it?”
I’m not going to lie, I wish I were in New York, experiencing snow and colder weather. I know I’m a bit weird while others are wishing they were here in Hawaii. Anyhow, I digress and just dream up ways for me to pretend I’m experience Snow and Christmas Trees at Rockefeller Square and Time Square during New Years Eve. I chose this outfit because it is something I would wear regardless of where I am. These key pieces are similar staples to what I love and I enjoy rocking them regardless of what side of the equator I am living.
