The boys and I have been enjoying our summer months together since my husband is usually working on the weekdays.  Come on now, we live on Maui, which has been rated the number 1 Vacation Destination by Conde Nast many years in a row, so we do have a plethora of sites to see and lots of fun to be had.  While we live on the mountain, we experience really hot days so I decided to pack the boys up into the car and take a drive up to Kula to cool down – since the air is much cooler there.  Our journey led us to the Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm, a place we have visited many times before – but it’s been years since I bought the twins here, so I decided it would be a perfect place to venture.

The Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm is located on the slopes of Haleakala and overlooks some of the most beautiful views on the South side of the island.  It is a 25-30 minute drive away from the Kahului Airport (the main airport into Maui) and a popular spot for visitors to stop at and have lunch after watching the sunrise at Haleakala or hiking the crater.  At one time, it used to be free to enter the Lavender farm, so I was surprised to see a guard house at the entry (it was not there my last visit a few years ago) and entry for adults is $2.00.  It’s well worth the cost however.  You can bring your own lunch and have a picnic or hike the grounds for a great adventure.  The air is so cool up there, it was a perfect place for the boys and I to getaway to beat the heat.

There is a little shop that sells tasty delectables featuring the fresh picked lavender, but the boys and I decided that we would just take in the sites and cool down and head home to eat lunch instead.  We walked around the gardens and admired the fragrant lavender as we took in the sites.

It was a short little adventure, but a beautiful day out so I took this opportunity to take some shots of the boys and my eldest son Kevin helped take a few photos of my casual outfit I wore.

The best part about our little drive and excursion today was that I was able to spend it with the boys.  They go back to school in about 2 1/2 weeks and this summer break flew by too quickly.  The twins are off to 1st Grade and Kevin is off to 7th Grade.  With Football season starting for all three boys August 1st – I know that times like these will be few in between, so I’m glad we made great use out of our Summer break.

My embedded video above also showcases our dinner for that evening… I made my homemade poor man’s rissotto (recipe coming soon) and we watched a beautiful sunset from our porch to end a wonderful day.  If you’re not following me on Snapchat – my code is in my side bar, come and follow me on my daily journey.  What about you, are you enjoying the summer months?  I’m thankful to live in Hawaii and blessed to have a lifestyle where every day is an adventure and a vacation.

Since my DSLR hasn’t been working, it’s been really nice to find reasons to take my phone out to practice shooting with it… all the images that you see in this post were taken with my Samsung Note 4.

It’s no secret that I’m a plus sized gal – well, now anyway. But, I always say that being plus sized doesn’t mean that you need to sacrifice your style! There are a lot of things you can wear that are not only fashionable but also comfy, even during the summer months. Living in Hawaii means that summers are warm and humid, so dressing comfortably is not only important, but also ideal. During the summer I absolutely live in dresses and shorts, and if I had my way, short dresses would be my go-to since they are not only easy to wear and cool, but comfortable. But since I’m a plus sized woman, short dresses mean that they can often hike up on their own quite easily since my bum and my chest have a mind of its own. Because of this, I’m always on the hunt for undergarments that will not only provide support, but also be easy to wear during this time. Plus Size Summer Style - How Skimmies Saved My Summer Fashion honeygirlsworld.com Recently I was introduced to Jockey® Skimmies Slipshorts. I have tried many and I truly put the emphasis on many slimming and smoothing undergarments over the years – even during my skinnier years… and have not found one as comfortable as these. You can quote me on that too! So what in the world are Skimmies? I have the long length size in an XXL. These undergarments are microfiber stretch shorts that are used for smoothing coverage under skirts. They are lightweight, offer a sleek design without constriction and come in a variety of colors. They fit so comfortably, I literally forget that I’m wearing them and they are absolutely perfect for the days I want to use my shorter dresses or mini skirts. They not only cover your bum, but they keep your panty lines to a minimum and offer anti-static defense for those days you are using your favorite flowy skirts. I find that they work so well under my maxi skirts on those days I feel a little bloated and can seem to fit anything right and they are now my favorite “must-have” to wear under my cute and flirty short dresses. Plus Size Summer Style - How Skimmies Saved My Summer Fashion honeygirlsworld.com I have them in white, but plan to pick them up in black and nude because I love them so. In the past, I have had issues with similar undergarments riding up on my thighs and so constricting that it made it hard to sit, or breathe. If that wasn’t the problem, they were so tight or uncomfortable and it was unbelievably hot that wearing them was just unbearable. Jockey’s Skimmies are made of a comfortable microfiber fabric, breathable and easy to wear. They stretch well and even fit me so well that I forget that I’m a plus size woman sometimes. I also forget that I’m wearing them and I never have to worry about flashing anyone when I’m wearing a short dress. Plus Size Summer Style - How Skimmies Saved My Summer Fashion honeygirlsworld.com Skimmies are available in three types: Original Skimmies® which are available in short and long lengths and are perfect for a smooth & polished look under your favorite dresses, Anti-static Skimmies® that are great to wear under pants or cotton fashions and Wicking Skimmies® which are great for working out and have moisture-wicking which is a quick dry fabric to help prevent chafing. Plus Size Summer Style - How Skimmies Saved My Summer Fashion honeygirlsworld.com They have a silky-smooth microfiber stretch fabric that offers great coverage without restriction. I love that it is easy to wear under pants or cotton clothing and you don’t have to worry about cling. The wide, flat leg hem is designed for a stay-put fit and the targeted stretch zones help to flatter your natural curves. If you are looking for an undergarment that is breathable, cool, comfortable and doesn’t make you feel like you’re wearing a coat – these are definitely a great solution. They work just like a slip, covers like shorts and are definitely my new go-to and must-have. Jockey Skimmies range from $20 – $22 and are available in sizes to fit from small to 2xl. They come in white, black and nude and a few other colors like grey and blue (depending on the type you select). The options are great and the price is right. Plus Size Summer Style - How Skimmies Saved My Summer Fashion honeygirlsworld.com So how have Skimmies saved my summer?  This gal will be comfortable in whatever I choose to wear; especially my cute mini dresses and not have to worry about offering those around me a free peep show of what’s underneath.  But, I do not have to sacrifice comfort and style for protection and I certainly don’t have to spend an arm and a leg for it too! “Forever & Always!”

Oh Fall… where are you?  Maui is super hot and humid and man I would love some cool chilled air my way, but it just hasn’t been so lately.  It was so warm today that a tank and shorts was on my outfit list… less is better, right? (did I just say that? lol)  So here is my Plus Sized Outfit of the Day…

OOTD Old Navy

You know in Hawaii we rock out flip flops like they are about to be discontinued, lol.  So here is my super quick outfit for going out and tackling Costco with my three sons.  Overall I have to say it was a fun day… we picked up my lil sis and spent a few hours with her while we tackled some errands… overall, I consider it a WIN.

  • Top – Love is Forever Graphic Tank from Old Navy
  • Bottoms – Denim Bermudas/Cut offs from Torrid
  • Flip flops – Guess
  • Watch – Invicta
  • Sunglasses – Maui Jim
  • Necklace – And I always get a lot of questions about my Teddy Bear Necklace.  Sadly I don’t know where it is from, my husband bought me this pendant before we had children, over 10 years ago.  I have heard that some jewelers carry it – but I have not seen it at local stores.

OOTD Old Navy

For my makeup today… I really was aiming to bring Fall into my life, even if it meant I had to do my makeup like Fall was in full swing. lol I also have had my Tamanna palette now for a couple of weeks and each opportunity I have I try to play with new shade combinations and had a few in mind I wanted to pair today. Since I only really wear makeup once a week, I was sure gonna make sure to get some makeup lovin’ in.

No face makeup today… did I mention it was hot? Yup, that means no blush, bronzer… na da… too hot. lol

FOTD Tamanna Palette

I’ve been working on a review for the Tamanna palette, and hope to have it up soon since I see that it is still available.  It drives me nuts when things are limited edition and I have to run out and get them because I just have to have it, but that also means that by the time I have had it long enough for me to actually state my thoughts on the product… I don’t get around to it.  Ooh – and on another note… have you seen my hair?  I know these pictures don’t show it well, but I went dark again… I’m actually really diggin’ it.

This plus sized girl was all about comfort and cool today.  I have been loving the Old Navy Tees and Tanks that they have been releasing lately and I’m all about a graphic tee if it means I can be comfortable.  I love those types of shirts for underneath my slouchy sweaters especially… now if Fall can just make its way here so I can start using them. lol  Wishing you all a wonderful Aloha Friday and a kick ass weekend.

Smooches.

Yay – I have finally found the time to post my Summer Essentials video.  Honestly, this is the second video I filmed and worked on but since my original video was 40 minutes long, I decided that I really needed to be more tactful with regard to what and how I posted so after some planning the last couple of weeks, here is the result.  I hope you enjoy the video and I hope you are enjoying summer.

Happy Valentine’s Day Love Bugs.  I really wanted to get this post up much sooner, but I had an unexpected medical procedure that took place last week that had me sitting in bed for the last few days and I wasn’t able to share this sooner.  Valentine’s Day is such a great Holiday to have fun and dress up with.  Since I have a casual sense of style, I wanted to share three outfits with you that showed off a little bit of classy and flirty and a little casual at the same time.  Check out the video and the photos below.

I hope you liked my video – please comment, like & subscribe.  Photos of the looks as well as details of the items are listed below.

Sexy, Timeless & Playful

The first outfit is a simple black and red cowl neck style body con dress.  Let me just start off by saying that I am so happy to be styling this dress for all of you this year because it is a personal accomplishment for me.  This dress was so tight last year, I couldn’t even pull it over my body.  Now – it is still fitted, but loose enough for me to wear comfortable.  While it hugs every single curve of my body – it adds to a bit of sex appeal without exposing extra skin and I love the kind of “Audrey Hepburn” class that comes with the style of dress.

  • Black / Red Cowl Neck Body Con Dress – unknown retailer (gift from my Mommy)
  • Black Strappy Wedged Sandals – Sole Society
  • Gold Infinity Heart Necklace – Shoplately
  • Black Rose Hair Accessory – HoneyXO (handmade by me)
  • Watch – Invicta

If you are a plus sized girl and want to rock out a body con dress, find one you feel comfortable in that will give the illusion of slimming.  This dress has the punch of red in the middle of the dress and splits into the black which helps to bring in and taper in my waist, giving me a slimmer figure.  I pulled my hair into a messy side bun and added a black rose hair accessory.  This gives the look an old charm with an updated look.

Valentine's Day Plus Sized Outfit

Mommy in Love

For my next outfit I wanted to choose something that was wearable for all ages, but especially age appropriate for someone in their 30s like me.  This outfit still has a sexy appeal to it because it hugs the curves in all the right ways, but for the most part – I am covered and not revealing much skin.  For this outfit I wanted to have texture and punches of red to make a bold statement that this outfit was for Valentine’s Day, but I wanted to be able to still use this outfit for other purposes.  Of course, nothing says statement like leopard heels so I figured that would be an awesome contrast in print as well.  As a mommy of 3 active boys, this outfit also allows me to still be active but look sexy and put together.

  • Sweater/Top from Jeans Warehouse Hawaii (comes with long necklace accessory)
  • Black Pencil Skirt from Forever 21
  • Gold Infinity Necklace from Shoplately
  • Bow Chain bracelet from Forever 21
  • Leopard Pumps from Fancy Steps

Since my hair is naturally curly and I wanted it to look a little different… I brushed out my hair a bit so that my curls were not so tight and left my hair down.  This outfit elongates my body and makes me appear much taller than I really am.  I think it adds to the sexy. 😉

Casual Love

As a busy mommy – I’m constantly on the hunt for something comfortable and easy to move in, regardless of the occasion.  This outfit was one I talked about in my recent Valentine’s Day Makeup Look – Bombshell Love.  I even decided I would rock out my wig so you had an idea as to how the entire look pulled together.  Maxi skirts are my best friend and this outfit is simple, fast to throw together and most importantly… comfortable.

  • Black slouchy blouse from Jeans Warehouse Hawaii
  • Black Maxi Skirt from Jeans Warehouse Hawaii
  • Leopard Pumps from Fancy Steps
  • Gold Bow Bling bracelet from Forever 21
  • Statement Necklace from Opaque Lion on Shoplately
  • Large Black Rose Hair Clip from HoneyXO (handmade by me)
  • Wig from Shoplately
  • Watch from Invicta
  • Tahitian Pearl gold ring from Mana Pearls

I always think wearing your hair down and natural with a maxi skirt is fun, flirty and casual.
Valentine's Day Plus Sized Look book

I know these looks are simple, but again – I am a simple person.  My husband will be working on Valentine’s Day and I’ll be home with my children, so I’m thinking I’ll be rocking out a maxi skirt and top with my natural curly hair pulled in a loose messy bun.  It’s casual but still put together and sweet.
