Even if I do share a lot of things online about myself – I’m sure there are a variety of things that you had no idea about.  Let’s face it, while I love to share with all of you, my entire life is not completely an open book.  Every so many years I do a post similar to this one and I’ve always enjoyed it.  This time around I figured, why not have a little fun and share with you 10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Me.  Some of these things may have been mentioned before while others, probably not… but today – I’m sharing with you a few fun tidbits about who I am.  Hope you enjoy it.

about me, potus, 10 things you didn't know about me, my life, a day in the life, president barack obama, michelle obama, white house,

1.   I am not a fan of mayonnaise.  I say “not a fan” but before I had my children – I hated it somewhat.  You could probably put it in a sandwich and so long as it was light, I would eat it… but there was a time when I couldn’t look at it, smell it or even touch it.  I can stand it now and put it in sandwiches or even make potato salad with it, but before I had children – the look of it made my stomach upset and often times the smell made me want to hurl.  I could smell it a mile away and it made me absolutely nauseated.  This is not a recent dislike… my entire life I remember not liking it and my mom said I didn’t like mayonnaise since I was about 3 years old.

2.  I can’t wink or whistle to save my life.  Well – I might be able to fake a whistle somewhat – but anyone who can, would probably laugh at me.  Winking?  Nope – it looks more like closing my eyes completely.  My Chinese blood kicks in and I fail miserably at it.  Thank goodness my husband is a great winker… because I suck at it. lol

3.  Growing up I had a stuttering problem.  Hah, I bet you wouldn’t have known from watching my YouTube videos or maybe you had no clue – but it’s true.  With the help of my teachers and my parents I was able to learn to get past my insecurities and anxiety that caused it.  Sometimes when I’m really nervous (usually when I’m afraid) or my anxiety kicks in, you can hear it in my voice.  Thankfully, I’ve been able to get passed it some what and it’s a rare occasion when it slips, but it does happen from time to time.

Can you find me in the audience?

4.  I’ve had the awesome opportunity to meet the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.  I felt it was something I wanted to share today since we are literally 24 hours from the Inauguration of our 45th President.  Mr. & Mrs. Obama are not only loving individuals, but they are great with children.  I had a conversation with their secret service the same day and they told me that the Obamas love kids and children are always welcomed.  Since the twins were toddlers when we visited the White House, I was worried that they would not be welcomed.  But my eldest & the twins were greeted with open arms and my sons loved the company of the Obamas.  We will surely treasure that moment for the rest of our lives.

There’s that curly head of hair again, this time after meeting and talking with First Lady Michelle Obama.

5.  I was almost kidnapped at the age of 4.  I was playing in our yard which was fenced and locked in when a taxi driver pulled up next to the fence and persuaded me to follow him for some candy.  Now mind you, this was back in 1984 when it was fairly safe to play in your own yard.  My dad and mom had walked into the house to grab something and as my dad was coming out of the house, the man was putting me into the back seat of his taxi.  My dad approached him, got me out of the car and well… let’s just say the guy was injured somewhat after that.  Unfortunately no charges were brought against him because he didn’t actually “drive away” and told the police that he was just trying to protect me… yeah, right!  Needless to say, it made my parents outlook on life as well as mine a bit different that day and that’s why I’m quite protective of my children.

6.  My senior year in high school I was selected to represent Hawaii in the Miss Teen USA Pageant.  Sadly, after going through all of the paperwork and getting things together, I had to decline my overall participation due to financial circumstances.  I was a bit bummed, but realized that no matter how much fundraising I did, I wouldn’t make the deadline to attend.  Because no one else was selected to take my place, the Hawaiian islands were not represented that year in the pageant.  I wish that they had offered more opportunities for scholarship or sponsorship back then, but I’m just thankful that I had the experience.

love, anniversary, wedding anniversary, wedding day, beautiful, married, romance,

7.  I am a believer in Happily Ever After and Forever and I’m a hopeless romantic.  In a time when divorce seems to be normal chit chat in a conversation, here I am trying to show everyone that true love and ever after are more than just fairy tale talk.  This coming September, my husband and I will be together as a couple for 20 years and this April we’ll be married for 16 years.  I started dating him when I was a Senior in high school.  We’ve been through thick and thin and just about everything under the sun, including near death on many occasions, but I wouldn’t want to experience anything without him.  Many people think I’m weird, but I find that true love is not weird and it does exist!  No need for diamonds, pearls or material things… I am happy and thankful with a rose or flower picked from a garden or thoughtful cards and gestures.  I just love being in love <3

about me, potus, 10 things you didn't know about me, my life, a day in the life, president barack obama, michelle obama, white house,

8.  I absolutely love photography.  Prior to working on my blog more on a full-time schedule, I did wedding, nature and portrait photography for about 8 years.  I enjoyed the job, but like being a makeup artist, being on your feet all day is probably one of the most difficult stresses you can put on the back.  I do miss it, but since I no longer have my equipment, I don’t take on new clients.  All of my blog posts and videos are shot with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and I certainly couldn’t show up to a wedding just carrying my phone – lol.

My favorite image that I’ve captured of my boys. They are not so little anymore.

This image was obviously enhanced, but it was taken using one of my favorite lenses for portraits – the 24-70mm. This lens creates some of the best bokehs.

9.  I have five different nationalities, but besides guessing that I’m Hawaiian, no one really guesses it right.  I am Hawaiian, Portuguese, Filipino, Chinese and German.  While traveling across the United States I’ve been asked if I am a mix of African American and Puerto Rican or African American and Korean.  I’m neither, but think it’s really cool that because of my features I’m often mistaken for something else.  I grew up in a melting pot of nationalities so I think a mix of races is always a cool thing.

10.  Speaking of nationalities, many people think that because I’m Hawaiian, then Hawaiian food like kalua pig, poi and fish are my favorite foods.  Well – don’t get me wrong, I LOVE fish and seafood, but believe it or not… my favorite food is Italian.  I LOVE pasta and absolutely can’t get enough of it.  It’s probably one of my downfalls to losing my weight because I’m all about that pasta life.  Pizza is probably one of my all-time favorite foods and I don’t think my love for Italian food will ever change.  It’s been my favorite since I was a little girl and I believe it always will be.

So there you have it, 10 things you probably didn’t know about me, or maybe you did… but I elaborated on them a little more.  I tend to be an open book most of the time, but I always love sharing new and exciting things or old things about myself.  I love posts like these because I find that I not only learn more about a person, but you get a feel for who it is you are reading about.  I hope you enjoyed this little share and I look forward to sharing more of me with all of you.

Wishing you all a wonderful day.

It’s been a few years since I have had the twins, well – almost 7 years to be exact and while they are growing too quick for me to fathom, my pregnancy with all of my children are still dear and near to my heart.  Each pregnancy I have had have been challenges and that doesn’t count the numerous miscarriages I have had over the years.  So – when I look back at those memories, I’m always thankful for the little keepsakes I have from that time.  Recently my family and I were introduced to the My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear, a company that offers adorable stuffed animals (bears, monkeys, giraffes, hippos and more) that come with a heart shaped recording device.  I thought the idea was such a wonderful thing to have as a mother or for any loved one, that I wanted to share it with you.

So – what is the My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear?

The My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear is a cute and adorable stuffed animal in available in a variety of types – bears, monkeys, giraffes and so much more.  The stuffed animal comes with a heart shaped recording device that a mommy can take the device to their ultrasound appointment and use it to record the sound of their baby’s heartbeat in utero.  The recorder is t hen inserted in the stuffed animal (through a Velcro and drawstring closure in the back) and you can simply press it at anytime to hear this precious sound.

There are more than 16 cute creatures to choose from – we got the Monkey, because – well, monkeys are adorable.  Baby’s Heartbeat Bear was created by Purusha Rivera, an OBGYN Ultrasound Technician who wanted to make the experience more special.  The bears are sold online, in hospital gift shops and at ultrasound studios across the country.  Each My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear kit comes with your stuffed animal friend and a red “heart” recorder.  You can order a second recorder to include a voice message from someone special if you would like.  You can easily capture 20 seconds of your baby’s heartbeat or in our case, I recorded my voice telling the twins good night, saying I love you and reminding them to say their prayers.  At the touch of your Baby’s Heartbeat Bears belly, your recording will play.

The My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear makes an excellent shower gift and a great addition to the nursery decor.  It’s safe for children 3 and older and will also become a source of fascination for growing kids who love to know what they were like as babies.  The bear is so easy to use and the little red heart recorder is as simple as pretty the button to record.  The stuffed animal is crafted from the softest, highest quality fleece-like material and polyfill.  It’s soft and perfect for cuddling.

Since I’m not expecting a new baby any time soon – I thought this would be the perfect addition to the twins collection of stuffed friends.  They loved him and absolutely cherish the fact that they can hear my voice any time they want.  This is especially ideal on those nights when they are having a hard time sleeping or a bad dream… because just a press of Monk’s tummy and my voice will soothe them right back to sleep.

I wanted to share My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear with all of you, my beautiful readers because this wonderful stuffed friend can mean so much more to many people than just recording a baby’s heartbeat during an ultrasound.  As I mentioned before, I use it as a way to calm the twins at night so they can hear my voice, but as a mother who has also lost children through miscarriage, I know how much this keepsake could bring happiness and peace to someone who has suffered similar lost.

A mom named Kailee reached out to My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear. Her baby was dying and she hoped to make a recording of her daughter’s heartbeat before she passed away. With a video of the baby’s heartbeat, the My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear team was able to preserve the sound of Kailee’s daughter’s heart so she will have a memory to treasure forever.

My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear and the creator – Purusha Rivera offer a Gifting Program for those that could use this wonderful gift. And, you never know what this could mean for another mom, dad or loved one.  You can learn more about the Gifting Program here and watch some videos from those that benefited from this wonderful Gift.  (P.S.  They are tear jerkers, so grab your kleenex)

My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear is a wonderful gift for anyone expecting a beautiful child to come into this World or anyone else.  I highly suggest this gift to anyone that could benefit from it and our new monkey friend named “Monk” has bought many days of joy since he has joined our family.  These lovely friends retail anywhere from $29 – $40.00 depending on the style and type you get and as I mentioned before, they are made well and are soft and ready to cuddle.

Do you know someone who could benefit from a new friend?  Head on over to http://mybabysheartbeatbear.com/ and take a look at all of the wonderful stuffed animals they have available.  If you are looking to pick up a gift for a soon to be mom or a loved one, I highly suggest checking them out.  After my sons have had Monk the last month, I realize how much they love and appreciate him and I know that I will be ordering from My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear for years to come for loved ones to cherish.

I have always loved dressing up and look forward to events so I was very excited to be invited to attend the Royal Order of King Kamehameha 150th Year Jubilee Ball.  This beautiful event is held every so many years but this year, being the 150th Anniversary made for a huge event.  The event took place at the beautiful Grand Wailea Resort in the Haleakala Ballroom and Garden on Saturday, April 9, 2016.  My husband and I were quite excited and while it was last minute that we were invited to go, we were able to pull together our attire in time for the event.

The color for the event this year was red, so I chose to go with a red dress.  I always love the way I look in red so it was an easy choice.  Finding a dress for my plus sized self was not an easy task however, but I’m glad I found a beautiful dress last minute and it fit perfectly.  The affair was a formal event which meant suit and tie for gentlemen and gown for ladies were required. Everyone was dressed up fancy and beautiful.

There was dinner and entertainment.  For dinner we were served a sit down 5 course dinner which consisted of a fusion of Hawaiian and local cuisine.  My husband and I really enjoyed the food and entertainment was wonderful as well.

Above is a video with my snapchat timeline from that evening. I was so busy having a grand time and enjoying the night that I didn’t have a chance to vlog or to take a lot of photos, but I tried to snap as much as possible.  I did take photos of each course we enjoyed for dinner.  Our 5 courses included the following:

Course 1 – Amuse Bouche, Ahi Poisson Cru with fresh Cilantro, Coconut Milk and Moloka’i Pa’akai.
Course 2 – Pohole Salad with housemade pipikaula, maui onion, dried shrimp, pea shoots and haiku tomato with Rolls and Lilikoi (passion fruit) butter
Course 3 – Roast Pork wrapped and baked in Ti- Leaf, served over ‘Uala (sweet potato), Lu’au, Inamona and Chicharron. Served with white rice family style
Course 4 – Lilikoi Haupia Brown Butter Cake with Haupia, Kula Strawberries and Chantilly
Course 5 – Friandise, Chocolate Truffles and Tea or Coffee

Of course, since we were in an ambient setting and the lighting was not the greatest, photos were not as clear as I would have liked… but I wanted to share this wonderful evening with all of you.  I had a great time and it was such a special event.  There are few events like this here on Maui so it was so nice to be able to attend.

I literally felt like I was going to prom.  Everyone was dressed up and looked wonderful.  It’s interesting because it literally was the adult version of a prom, but with a full service bar and adult conversations.  I love that as we get older, the uncomfortable feeling we get around our peers tends to dwindle – which is quite different from how it was as we were teens.  The event was beautiful, food a wonderful delight and I enjoyed every minute of it.  It was a wonderful way to finish our week of celebrations for my husband and I for our wedding anniversary.  15 years married and a wonderful ball – I say it was a grand time.

They say that finding the love of your life is a rare thing – heck, I still have friends that are searching for theirs… but thankfully I have mine.  Today my husband and I celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary.  It seems like the time has gone by oh so quickly and I’m still amazed at how much we have grown not only as a couple but as individuals.  We have our own little family now and while things can be a challenge for us, we tackle them together as one.

love, anniversary, wedding anniversary, wedding day, beautiful, married, romance,

On April 6, 2001, Kevin and I were married at Kepaniwai Park, Iao Valley in a beautiful ceremony.  Times have certainly changed since then, weddings are different – even wedding attire.  I remember the day like it was yesterday and the cool Maui breeze that graced my face as I walked up the aisle to greet my husband to be married.  It truly was a wonderful day.  Now – 15 years later and we have three boys and a dog and a lifetime of happiness and triumph to look forward to.

Dear Kevin – my darling husband,

As we celebrate 15 years married today (soon to be 19 years together), I’m reminded of the vows we took so many years ago.  Our lives were simpler then, but while it’s much more interesting now – it’s comforting to know that the last 15 years I have grown as a woman, a wife and mother with you by my side.  We have never had a dull moment and sometimes we don’t get to rest as much as we would like, but the challenges we’ve had are a great reminder of how far we have come and a celebration of our journey together.

As I write this letter, I can’t help but think where my life would be if we had made a different choice 19 years ago.  Our situations would be different, our lives on various paths.  It’s hard to fathom and I realize that while I may ponder the thought, my life without you would never be the same… and it was God’s choice that our paths would cross and meet once again bringing us to this point in time.  Everything happens for a reason, and God’s reason was that we were to be together.

Through all of our trials and challenges, I am always reminded of our love.  You are my strength, my equal and my biggest supporter.  I am who I am today and who I strive to be because of you.  No matter what our future holds, I’m proud to have you by my side as I walk into the unknown and face whatever it is that comes my way – head on.

I love you for an eternity, for always and forever!

love, anniversary, wedding anniversary, wedding day, beautiful, married, romance,

It’s Good Friday!  I can’t believe that we are about to be celebrating Easter in a few short days and the boys will be heading back to school after having the last week off with me.  It seems like the time is ticking away.  I know, I know – I say that more often than not, but I can’t help but feel like I’m stuck in an egg timer that speeds up every time I need a moment to really smell the roses.  I’m glad I had this time with the twins all week, though they have absolutely kept me on my toes and I feel like I ran the Boston Marathon.  My eldest was off to Day Camp all week as a part of a program that he takes part in so the twins and I kept each other busy.  Let’s just say there were a lot of books and reading, Legos and food involved, haha!  I also took the twins to the doctor for their yearly physical this week and I was off to the doctor the other day to check on my insides.  I’m kind of over doctors lately – well, I’ve always been… but the stress level has my brain completely consumed as of late – more on that later.  Well, it’s TGIF which means we are just going to enjoy the moments we have the rest of the week… right?

currently, life, love, family, motherhood, twins, boys, spring break 2016

So, here’s what’s going on currently in my life.

Drinking… Water!  Yes, we all know I drink water daily, but after my recent doctor’s appointment that is what I’m kind of stuck with.  Looks like my Gold Card from Starbucks will be taking a backseat in 2016.  Stupid Blood pressure – errrr.

Eating… Well, I wish I were eating a slice of pizza, but since it’s currently breakfast I’m having my green smoothie.  What does it consist of you ask?  Well…  kale, spinach, banana, coconut milk, blueberries and strawberries, almonds and a protein powder additive.

Feeling… Absolutely EXHAUSTED!  It may be because of my blood pressure being sky high lately, but I am spent.  With the boys home on Spring Break, I’m a bit behind on normal blog stuff, YouTube stuff and overall – but hey, I’m enjoying every minute of it.

Listening… Common Kings.  It seems like I have been pulling up their channel on Pandora or Amazon Prime Music a lot lately.  Nothing like some awesome local Hawaii roots to set the mood.

Reading… Well – thankfully I’ve been able to get caught up on some magazines from last month.  I finished a few books in February so I haven’t picked up anything new.  But, I plan to find something interesting and get started on reading something soon.  We’ll see – maybe another Book Talk in the works in a month or so.

Watching… Criminal Minds, Little Women L.A., Bring It, and looking forward to Empire.  Can you believe the last episode of Criminal Minds?  I am still unsure I’ll like the demographic of the team since Derek Morgan will no longer be a part of it… we shall see if I’ll continue watching past this season.  I’m looking forward to the new season of Empire though… man – it couldn’t come quick enough.

Loving… Peasant style tops.  I have been eyeing them a lot lately and it’s been at least two years since I purchased one so I’m really looking into adding some new ones to my wardrobe. I just picked up this one here in black so you may see it featured here in the coming weeks.  You know me, when it comes to clothes – I dance to the beat of my own drum.

Wanting… A beautiful spring season.  I love Spring and it is my favorite time of year but with the weird Vog in the skies, it seems like our breathing and my asthma may not be happy.  I wish for a beautiful spring filled with dew drops and daisies and beautiful weather with light showers to keep our grounds and greenery lush.  I’m not asking for much, am I? lol

Contemplating… Change!  The red of my hair has since faded and I’m kind of over it.  I have been considering going lighter since the grey that graces my locks is really prominent.  We shall see.

Working on… Life!  I realized that over the last few years my blog went from being a lifestyle site to being about beauty and over the last year I have been making a change to make this place a lot more personable.  Yes, it’s taking me some times… especially since I have established so many awesome beauty contacts, but I miss the old Honeygirl’s World and strive to get it back to that place once again in 2016.

Excited for…  Did I mention Empire???  lol J/K.  On the real though, I’m excited to have a four day weekend with my husband and sons, family time truly is the most important.  I’m excited for some Pastele Stew this Easter Sunday – my husband makes it from scratch.  And, I’m excited for where ever 2016 is taking me – so far… just three months in, it has been awesome.

Happy Thirsty Thursday.  Today’s episode in my TT Segment has a lot to do with abuse in a relationship.  There are so many different types of abuse and often times, we as friends, outsiders or those looking from the outside in do not even realize what is happening.  While this episode is basically my opinion on emotional, mental and physical abuse – I hope that if only one person watches this video and it helps them make a change for the better, that it will make a difference.

Have a great Thursday and remember… You are beautiful!

In our household, Valentine’s Day is every day so it’s not a holiday or date we necessarily put a huge emphasis on each year.  To my husband and I, Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love and we embrace love and commitment each and every day.  Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy the occasional flowers, box of chocolates or jewelry but for us, Valentine’s Day is really about spending time with one another.  You see – with our busy schedules and odd shifts, parenthood and just our overall daily lives, spending time with one another is what makes for a great Valentine’s Day.

Time With The Ones You Love Is Always Well Spent

“Any time not spent on love is wasted.” – Torquato Tasso

My husband Kevin and I have been together for almost 19 years and in that time we have definitely celebrated this holiday in different ways.  Dinner by candle light, roses and floras galore and beautiful gems and jewels to stop traffic but one tradition we have definitely kept strong over the years is a new watch for one another.  Whether I’m buying a new one for him or he a new one for me, each year whether for the holidays, birthday or Valentine’s Day at least one of us gets a new watch for our collection.  Watches are so significant to each of us.  To us, a watch is more than just an accessory we wear on our wrists, it symbolizes time and our time together is so precious and important to us.

“I would rather have 30 minutes of something wonderful, than a lifetime of nothing special.” – Julia Roberts (Steel Magnolias)

This year I treated Kevin to a beautiful JORD Watch – a 94A Series in green sandalwood and maple.  This perfect wood watch makes a statement that is bold but not so much that it would make a person feel uncomfortable when wearing it.   It is the kind of watch for those who are making the most of every moment, every single minute and every day.  For a couple like us who collects watches of all kinds, this particular time piece is classic and stunning.

While each couple or person celebrates Valentine’s Day the way they choose, we opt to make sure that no matter the reason, we make sure that we spend time with one another, soaking in each and every moment and absolutely cherishing what we have.  As a couple we have learned that life’s moments can sneak up on you and in a heartbeat anything can change.  Make use of the time you have and spend it with the one(s) you love.  Make Valentine’s Day every day and make every moment you live something wonderful.

Each person celebrates love differently and whether it be to buy something special for someone you care about or to spend every waking moment with the one you love, the decision is up to you.  With busy schedules, three active boys and a life of activity – my husband and I have found that two minutes with one another is a cherished commodity and one we take advantage of as much as possible.  Time with one another is our favorite gift and the reason why we buy each other watches for presents.

Who am I?

Well, it’s obvious that I am a blogger (just call me an editor – lol), Photographer, an art lover and self proclaimed gourmet food aficionado (otherwise known as major foodie) as well as a creative brain waiting to jump out and show the world what I can do.  But, most importantly – I am a Wife and Mother.

“Cut not the wings of your dreams, for they are the heartbeat and the freedom of your soul.” – Flavia

I have a husband named Kevin who has been and continues to be my rock, my strength and my biggest supporter.  If you know anything about me, then you know that for years, I struggled to discover myself and who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do.  Through it all, our love has stood the test of time and through our ups and downs – through sleepless nights and times when we had no money, we persevered and looked past it all.  We continue to love one another, commit our hearts to each other and look forward to a lifetime of memories.

A year or so ago I was approached by a colleague that asked me a question that I never thought I would ever have to answer.  But, in answering her question I realized that our world is not what we consistently hope it to be.  While I constantly live in my own fairy tale, many are just longing for love.  Today I share with you her question and my response.

Friend:  “How can you be so in love with someone, after all these years… and talk about him as if you have a new found relationship – like teenagers?  You guys act like you are newly in love.”

My answer: “How can you not? When you give your love to someone, during your wedding vows or other – don’t you commit to them with all your heart and soul? Shouldn’t love be fun and interesting? Shouldn’t you live each day for one another – be there for each other and more importantly, love like you don’t have tomorrow. It’s different when you fall in love with someone and marry them. They are your best friend, your soul mate. Your love for them can only grow more and more as time passes.”

It’s corny – I know… but it’s true! This is who I am and what I feel inside.  There are times when I get so busy and wrapped up into being a wife and mother, that I often don’t pay attention to how strong my love is.  Sometimes, I find myself in extreme auto-pilot, living through each day as if I were a part of a robotic colony completing each task on automatic mode.  But, while those times can come more often than not, I know that I can always stop and be so thankful for where I am in life and how far it has taken me.

I also mentioned being a mother.  I have three beautiful boys and while they are all their own individual selves with their own personalities, they helped to mold me into the mother I am today.  Through many times of the utmost insanity, my boys have helped me to keep it all together.  I’m not gonna lie, being a mother is already a challenge and topping it off with three VERY active boys is icing on the cake.  My eldest (Kevin Ka’eo) is now 12 years old and is already going through that stage of being “too grown up” for his parents – yikes.  And, the twins (Luke & Isaiah) are now 6 years old with an agenda each all their own.  All of them keep me absolutely on my toes… between school functions, sports and just an overall lack of sleep – but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.  These boys are my love bugs, they have captured my heart forever.

You see, in life – we meet new people, gain new relationships and take on many challenges. I am who I am today because of those who have inspired me to be more than I could ever imagine. I would never change any of it – Never, ever!  I have a strength that many people cease to exude.  It’s not that they don’t have it, but merely because they don’t realize they do.

The strength behind my soul is my family.  These four people in my life that not only provide the biggest support that I could ask for as a person, but the foundation of which my life succeeds.  I’m stronger because of them and for them and my soul, my heart is whole because of the love I have for them.  They say that love is what makes or breaks a person – it is what develops a person into who they become and what their future will hold.  If that’s the case, I think my future is bright and my soul is strong because I live a love that most people only dream of.

Wishing you all a wonderful day! Thanks for letting me pour out my heart and soul for all of you! xo

Happy Thirsty Thursday.  I’m doing my best to keep up with my videos through YouTube so today I bring you another Thirsty Thursday episode.  Today we are talking about relationships, love and communication.  Is it difficult now a days to have a relationship that will last?  I often get asked how to keep a relationship strong and how is it that my husband and I have been together for so long considering most couples don’t get past their 5 year wedding anniversary.  Today I share with you my thoughts on the subject, my experiences and even some input from my husband.  Watch the video embedded below or click here to watch directly on YouTube.

Want to ask me a question?  Comment on the video or send me an email at thehoneygirlk@gmail.com and I’ll touch base on it in my next Chit Chat video.

Have a great weekend!

july favs 2014

I know I say this each month, but man…  July sure flew by faster than ever and August is already proving to be traveling at lightning speed.  I had so much going on I really just forgot to post my Monthly Favorites here on my blog… so I am sharing it with all of you now.  Last month was a month of discovery because I tried out quite a bit of new products, most of which I found I immediately enjoyed.

Check out my video embedded below where I go through each product or click here to watch it directly on YouTube.

Check out the rundown of products for last month below.

July Beauty Favorites 2014

I did a review here on my blog of the Hask hair care products in Argan Oil and Keratin Protein.  After using other products for a few months, I find that I still enjoy this line and it has made a whole lot of difference on my hair since the sun has been doing a full beat down.  Check out my complete review for these products here, and definitely check out the line where you can find them at select stores – I have been picking up my masks at Walmart.

July Beauty Favorites 2014

I have a review coming soon on the Verona Color Switch.  This product is pretty genius and I think would be a great benefit for Makeup Artists especially.  It allows you to take your brush and swipe it through the product cleaning off excess product so you can use the brush again.  I especially love to use this when I used the brush originally to apply a color and then swipe it through the color switch so that I can blend the shade out without transferring additional product and causing a muddy effect on your eyes.  I also love that I can go from a dark shade like black to a light cream or white shade without mixing them.  It’s a great product and I hope to have the review done soon.

L’Oreal has hit a home run with Voluminous Miss Manga mascara.  It has quickly become one of my favorites because you can actually see my lashes when I use it and used in combination with one of my favorites… Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – they have become a pair made in heaven. lol

Kiss 11 Lashes have been my jam this past month… this is my third pair even with reuse and cleaning of previous pairs.  I love how affordable Kiss Lashes are, how thin the band is so it makes it near to impossible to detect you have them on and most importantly – how comfortable they are on the eyes.  I especially love that these are dupes to my favorite Ardell Demi Whispies… but a bit cheaper than they retail since I can get them in a larger pack if I can find it.

July Beauty Favorites - 2014

Of course, I have been loving the new Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Shadows.  If you have been following me at all in July – you would have seen my review, which you can find here, as well as a tutorial using a few of the shades I mentioned in my favorites which you can find here.  Bella Chiffon, Bella Sand and Bella Bronze have been some of the favorites I have been gravitating to this past month and I know they will surely be favorites for time to come.

L’Oreal Infalliable eye shadows have been a favorite now since first trying them earlier this year.  While I am smitten and in love with Iced Latte, Gilded Envy has been a shade I have been rockin’ out in July.  I love just applying it with a quick wash of color and blending Milani’s Bella Cappuccino in the crease for a sweet every day look.  I promise I’ll have a quick tutorial for that coming up soon.

July Beauty Favorites 2014

Through most of the summer I usually pull for my more nude shades and since I’m already on my second tube of Milani’s Nude Creme, I figured I needed to switch things up a bit and pull out some shades I haven’t been using all that much.  I purchased Bite Beauty’s Duo Lipstick in Lychee & Musk earlier this year and have really enjoyed the shades as well as the formulation.  Creamy, moisturizing and the colors are gorgeous.  The only downfall is that the formulation of these lippies are so darn soft, the warm summer heat has been doing a number on them and I know that soon I’ll be needing to apply these lip colors with a lip brush because the lipstick is getting bent out of shape.  They are naturally soft so even without summer, they were already starting to warp.  Regardless, for the price tag I am loving these and I think that anyone would enjoy them.

Of course, NYX’s Butter Lipsticks have been a favorite for months.  I have been pulling for Pops much more now then I did any other time.  I have a review for this lipstick here and if you are someone who likes nudes, this may be a great addition to your collection.  Creamy, soft and buttery on the lips, it’s been a favorite of mine all month.

July Beauty Favorites 2014

After purchasing my Lorac Pro 2 Palette last month, I instantly fell in love.  The shades are perfect for year round because they are soft and wearable… you can easily use most of them for all over the lid one wash shades.  I love that there are a few bold shades as well.  I have a review of this palette coming soon as well as a tutorial coming up using colors that I have been rocking all month long together:  Rose, Mocha, Cool Gray, Nectar & Plum.  This is surely becoming a favorite palette of mine and will take it’s place right next to #1 in my Holy Grail pile.

Of course, we all know I’m about that Vanilla Cake scents.  I have been a long time fan of Pacifica and their Island Vanilla scent has been a top scent for me the last 2 1/2 years.  I haven’t used anything else but this scent all month long in July.

July Lifestyle Favorites 2014

Last but not least are my Lifestyle Favorites.  As I mentioned in my video, the boys have been enjoying listening to Magic’s Rude on the radio so it has become a favorite of ours in the house.  I think it’s beyond adorable when twin 4 year olds and a 10 year old knows all the words to a popular song and they love it.  I have been also getting great use out of my Glasstic Water bottle.  I have a review for it here, and definitely recommend it to anyone – especially people who love infused waters.  It has been a lifesaver for me to carry around my drink in this heat.

Last but not least is my Cafe Press Customized Plus Size V-Neck T-shirt.  I designed this last month and have been enjoying it.  I think Black and Gold are such a great combination and I have been loving the simplicity and the statement.  I’ll try to remember to post a quick Outfit of the Day the next time I wear it.  The fabric is breathable, it’s cut and fits this plus size gal really well and it’s personalized.  I love it.  You can check out more information about creating your own shirt or many other things here.

Overall – even if July flew by so quickly and August is here… I am thankful that I accomplished so much in the month.  The twins are off to school as well as my eldest and all started on August 1st so the house has been quiet during the day, and I miss them so much.  Our summers are always filled with fun and this summer was surely no exception.  From hitting the beach, to the park to just cruising and enjoying our time together – I was certainly sad to see it all go (excuse me while I tear up a bit), but all three boys were so excited for school (I’ll have more of that in another post this week).  It’s times like this when I reflect back on a previous month that I realize how awesome life is and I’m glad for Monthly Favorites that allow me to reflect on the month previously.  My number one favorite that I didn’t mention in my video – time!  The past two months has given me awesome and quality time with my littles and my husband… that overall, is the best favorite of all.

In 2011 I created this makeup look.  It was one of my most popular then, one that definitely got attention and it was even featured on the Homepage of Beautylish that year.  I’m not gonna lie, it was exciting and definitely cool to see years of playing and doing makeup to see your work start to get noticed on the Worldwide Web.  Looking back at this photo from almost 3 years ago is a reminder of how far I have come… not only in learning more about makeup, but more about my skin, about how I thought of myself, my appearance and so much more.  Basically – looking back on this, I am reminded of how far I have come as a person… my throwback Thursday is about reflection of where I have been and how far I have come.

Have you ever stopped to look at an old photo and think to yourself… “Wow – time sure has come and gone!” and then realize that the path you have taken the last couple of years while difficult was a road that needed to be traveled?  Yup – that was me… and let me just say, that this road was one filled with a lot of learning.  I’m proud to say that I have learned so much about the person I am and it’s taken three years to realize that a person can grow overnight.  Let’s be honest here… we didn’t think that this was all going to be about makeup… right?

While this photo was taken just under three years ago, it shows a person who isn’t smiling… who looks, almost rugged and rough.  Yes, the pretty face (lol) and exterior may look nice, but this is the photo of a woman who is still trying to figure out who she is in the beauty community… but realized later that she is exactly who she was meant to be… herself.  So now… when you look at a photo of this women, majority of the time, there is a smile on her face… and when there is not – it’s just because she is trying to look fashionable. lol  I have learned more than ever in the last 3 years that beauty is only skin deep… and that it was important that I must be comfortable in my own skin.  I’m not gonna lie, I have those days where I wallow in self doubt… come on now, we all do – no matter how much we try to get away from it.  But, I have also learned to look in the mirror and be proud of who I am, the accomplishments over the years, how I look and most importantly know that the company I keep is worth my time, energy and love.

People forget that life is a journey… every day – every week – every year… we learn and we either grow by learning or we take a step back and become what we are not meant to be, when all we are supposed to be… is ourselves.  Love and Kisses from me to you!

They say that becoming a mommy is one of the most rewarding things a woman can experience in her lifetime.  Before having children, I’ll admit that I did not think that was possible and after having them, I now know that there is nothing I wouldn’t do for my kids.  They drive me crazy sometimes and I don’t even know what sleep is anymore – but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  While I learned a ton of things after having my children and continue to learn new things each day, there are 10 things that I have learned after becoming a mom that stick out to me the most.  This is supposed to be a bit comical – but at the same time, a realization that our lives are no longer our own and our hearts will always belong to someone else.

“Making the decision to have a child – it’s momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”

– Elizabeth Stone

Our Boys

  1. It is not always a good thing when your children are quiet.
  2. You develop ninja skills overnight when you must keep your child from climbing, falling, running or putting things in their mouth.
  3. Food is no longer your own and to them, your food always looks better than what they have on their own plate… even if it is the same food you have on yours.
  4. LEGOS, WOODEN BLOCKS, ARMY MEN AND HOT WHEELS while cool to play with are the most painful things your feet will step on.
  5. Unless your children are in bed asleep or out of the house, you will no longer have privacy when you are using the bathroom
  6. Your new favorite Soap Opera or Chick Flick is anything on Disney Channel – you even sing along to the songs and can quote scenes. “The Doc is in and she’ll fix you up – if you’re a toy then you’re in luck”
  7. Your arms become race tracks for hot wheels, bikes and other types of vehicles.
  8. You no longer know what a full night’s sleep is.
  9. You are now an alien – You have eyes behind your back, six extra limbs, you are a lie detector and you’re psychic.
  10. They say you cannot live without your major organs… but yet, the most important thing I learned after becoming a mom… “Your heart really does go walking around outside your body!

So I wish all of you mommies out there (and those soon to be) that you make your own memories out of the things you learned after becoming a mom.  Know that when times are tough and your children can be a handful, that there are other mothers out there that have lived through and are living through some of what you are experiencing.  Becoming a mom is one of the best decisions I have ever made in my lifetime and I wouldn’t change any of it for anything in the whole World.  While challenges are constant, LOVE IS FOREVER!
