The Winter months tend to take its toll on my hair and by the time Spring makes its way here, my hair tends to need a little extra TLC. With Spring in full swing, I want to make sure that my hair is not only protected for the warmer months, but that the frizz that tends to be prominent is kept at bay. This season I’m treating my hair to a little extra love with the help of Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture. Our skin and bodies aren’t the only things that need a little finesse, our hair needs some love too. Do you have curly hair like I do and need a little extra hair pampering come Spring? If so, keep reading as I walk your through what I do to keep my curls tame and frizz free with a little extra definition. Call it a tutorial or just some of my favorite tips… whatever your play on words, follow along as I take you through my Spring Hair Care Pampering.
Over the years, my hair has lost a lot of its curl thanks to my consistent use of heat on it. Because of this, I try my best to use my hair as natural as possible, using products that not only infuse moisture into my hair, but protect my hair shaft and define my curls. Most of the products I use are formulated with ingredients like coconut oil (I also use the real thing on my hair all the time) to help keep my hair hydrated and my curls springy. Recently I have added awesome products from Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture’s Coconut & Moringa Oil line to help combat my frizz and define my curls. This line has been a substantial difference in how my hair feels and how great it looks.
The innovation behind the newly launched collections from Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture combines two beauty breakthroughs including:
- Dual Encapsulation Oil Technology – Dual Encapsulation Technology that infuses hair with two natural oils – one repairative, the other, style-enhancing. Both delivering nourishment exactly where hair needs it most. The tiny micro-spheres infuse hair with targeted, time-released nutrients to rapidly boost conditioning benefits.
- Natural Silicone Alternative – Brassica Seed Oil’s excellent antioxidant profile results in a natural shine, smoothness and silky softness without the potential for buildup.
I specifically chose to use the Coconut & Moringa Oils Collection to help my curls with definition and to help fight frizz. But, there are more lines available to suit your hair needs like the Jamaican Black Castor & Murumuru Oils Collection, Dream Come True Collection and the Brassica Seed and Shea Oil Collection. Each of the collections are formulated with six multi-tasking oils that help nourish, condition, detangle and seal in moisture. You can select each one for specific treatment and conditioning boosts and to help refresh your hair which make Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture’s lines ideal for complete care and pampering or blending the lines for more personalized hair needs.
A few tips on how I keep my hair looking fresh and pretty. Keep in mind that these are my tips and you can taper them to accommodate your hair and hair type.
- I only really wash my hair about once a week. Each person can decide to wash more if they decide, but since my hair is so dry, if I wash it more often – I tend to have a crazy head of hair full of frizz.
- When shampooing, I usually concentrate my shampoo towards the roots and scalp and try to stay away from the length of my hair. If I feel like my length and ends need a little extra cleansing, I will use a conditioner and co-wash those sections. Or, I will use the shampoo but try to use one sparingly.
- Conditioning or a great mask is a must. Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture’s Frizz Fighting Coconut & Moringa Oils Curl Conditioner is perfect for conditioning the hair and adding in moisture. Since our curls tend to dry out easily, this conditioner helps to soften and detangle my hair while restoring much needed moisture. I love that this product is thick enough to coat my hair nicely but still has enough slip to work through my hair, detangle with my fingers and leave my hair smooth, soft and moisturized.
- After my shower I tend to use a variety of products that not only lock in the moisture into my hair, but help to define my curls and help with the frizz. The Curl Defining Milk (Coconut & Moringa Oils) helps to add that extra moisture, fight frizz and define my curls. It’s like a leave-in conditioner without the weight and helps to form my curls to give them a little extra bounce.
- After applying the Curl Defining Milk, I add the Flyaway Curl Control Serum which helps to fight frizz, protect the hair and add shine. This serum smells delicious (as do the other products) and is a water-resistant serum that adds a protective barrier to help block humidity. One pump is more than enough for my whole head of hair. I apply to my ends and work my way up my shaft to my scalp to help protect my hair and help with the frizz.
- When I’m looking for a little hold, I will add a light weight mousse or gel to help keep my curls defined and in place but most the time, that consists of my hair care routine and the extra pampering I do to treat my hair to some love. Since I only wash my hair once a week (2x at the most), after my 2nd or 3rd day of hair, I tend to add a refresher to help rejuvenate my curls if they are starting to fall flat. I have been using the Curl Refresher Mist to help reactivate my curls and redefine them as well as soften and eliminate the frizz that may have accumulated over the last few days. This curl refresher is a life saver because I do not need to really re-wet my hair as I would normally and it leaves my hair looking like it’s freshly washed.
Living in Hawaii can do major damage to my hair year round and the colder months, while they can take its toll… the warmer months can really dry my hair out just as bad. It’s important that I take the extra time and utilize great products to help keep my hair looking great. It’s no secret that I tend to wear my hair up and out of my face most of the time – if you’ve been a follower of my blog, then you would have seen countless photos of my hair in a bun. But, that also means that when I decide to wear my hair down, I need it to be on top of its game… looking fab, healthy and shiny. Since my hair is so long and curly, it tends to get a lot of attention and since all eyes are on it, I want it to look good. To keep my hair looking great, that means I need awesome products and a good but simple hair care routine I can keep up with.
While I use a plethora of different brands and products, I really have been enjoying using Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture’s Coconut & Moringa Oils Collection and it has been a great benefit to my hair the last month. Used in combination with some of my favorite brands and products, it has added additional luster to my hair making it look like I just stepped out of a salon. As I mentioned previously, the brand offers different collections to suit different hair types, so a little hair love, pampering and TLC is not difficult to obtain.

I totally think I need to grab some of these for my sister. She has super curly hair like yours and I think she would love the items. The mist sounds awesome to help refresh without having to get hair wet again. Sounds awesome.
I’ve been testing it with many of my current hair products. Some of the products I have used it with have made my hair crunchy while others not… so she may notice that it may do the same with her… I don’t like crunchy – but thankfully found a few hair products I love that work really well. It really is a good one to refresh curls and help with frizz – I like it and love the scent. 🙂
Excellent review, Honey! I have been testing a few of their products as well, and so far am quite impressed. Curly girls, like us, definitely need to pamper those curls!
yes… most definitely. I swear, if we don’t… the curls go psycho on us. lol Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these once you are done testing them 🙂
That is so great that you’ve been using Madame C.J. Walker hair products! She is such an American success story and pioneering businesswoman entrepreneur! So glad that her haircare line goes on and is still growing and evolving
I agree… she is definitely a success story but I love when I find a product line after a person who really helped to pave the way for so many women. 🙂 I really do enjoy the hair care line… and can’t wait to try the other products.

These products really enhance your hair. It looks shiny and so healthy. I’m sure your gorgeous hair does get a lot of attention.
thank you 🙂 It does… but I think my length has a lot to do with it too.
Your hair is so beautiful. I hope mine reaches your length!
thank you 🙂 You know, my hair grows really fast, I also trim every 6-8 weeks… so not sure if that has some to do with it. I wish it would stop shedding… after having kids, that is what happens the most.
I wasn’t aware of this brand, but it sounds pretty exceptional. Your hair (and the view) looks amazing too!
yes, they are pretty good and thank you so much 😉
I love your photos here mama! Your hair looks fabulous too
thanks sis. 😉 My son took the photos of me and I took the photos of the products… we had so much fun that day scouting locations.
I could use some of this! My hair is between wavs and curls when I wear it natural and I think this would help with the frizz I get. Your hair is beautiful!!
I think you would love these products 😉 thank you so much.
Look at that mane! I’m jealous 🙂 Never heard of this brand before, thanks for sharing.
thankyou 😉 xo
You have fabulous hair, woman. And your local scenery makes the perfect backdrop to showcase it. I’d love to try this line, to see if it would help tame my insane wurls. 😀
thank you 😉 I had a lot of fun scouting locations with my son… he took my pictures of me that day. 😉 I hope you get to try this line… you’ll love it.

Your hair looks fabulous and I’m excited to try something from this new brand!
thank you 🙂 I think you will love this line 😉 xo
I have the same issue with washing my hair! I wash too often, and it rebels :/
yes… my scalp also gets way too dry if I wash too much and then I’m screwed. lol
I hate my hair. If I wash daily – it’s too dry, but if I do every other day (even with dry shampoo application) it’s too oily. Your hair looks amazing
Your hair looks so gorgeous! I need to try this line for my wavy hair!
This is the line I want to try next from the brand! I know that I’ll love the scent also! Ha!!
Girl, I totally have hair envy! I wish I had such thick, healthy hair.
