I can’t count how many times I have been told that Plus sized gals don’t belong in shorts. It’s the summer ya’all… and it’s way too hot so I’ll wear it if I have it. The fact is, I live in shorts if I can find a pair that suits the rest of my outfit and as many know who follow this blog – I’m a casual and laid back soul who loves to dress according to what makes me feel comfortable, not what others think I should wear. Before I became “plus sized” I actually wore a lot of shorts or lived most of my teenage life in a bikini, because I like to be cool and this is Hawaii, where most people are lightly clothed, lol. So, while my thighs are thick, I like them to be free and cool, so summer means either shorts or dresses. Today, I remind you all that plus size girls can wear shorts too… with a quick summer plus size casual outfit.
Earlier in the month I got a really cute ribbon crusher hat in white from Scala Pronto and thought that my casual, but functional look for the day would be the perfect marriage. Since the boys and I were out and about playing tourist on our island, I thought – why not strut my stuff in a fun hat with a comfy outfit to pair with it.
The #LC511 Hat is a wide brim hat that is lightweight. It includes a sewn-ribbon design and also provides SPF 50 protection which makes it perfect to pair with your summer outfits or year round. It has a pretty tie at the back with an interior swear band for all-day comfort while wearing and includes colors in white, black, turquoise, poppy and fuchsia. This is the ideal accessory for the pool and beach as well as a casual (like I’m wearing) or dress up style.
Tank: Carpe Diem Danskin Now Actives

Now, I know what you’re thinking… “But, Honey – isn’t that a workout or active wear shirt?” Well, Yes and that is the whole reason I wore it today, hence the word “active wear”. Don’t you know that running after three kids is major cardio? Hahaha! I needed something I could move in because keeping up with the boys while they are on Summer break means I have to be ready in an instant and constantly on my toes… but, don’t worry about me, I digress! It’s cool and comfy but loose enough to allow me to really be active and have some fun with my littles. And, I happen to like the saying on it, who doesn’t like a cute graphic tank anyway?
Growing up in Hawaii, being a surfer girl and tomboy for most of my life has really allowed me to embrace the casual island living. I’m not gonna lie, you will catch me in a tank and shorts or a dress most of the year if I’m not rocking out a pair of jeans. I love it and I love that I can be comfortable and get down and dirty with my sons if the time calls for me to do so. While I’m not a size 7 like I used to be, I still use shorts and I think plus size gals like myself shouldn’t be ashamed to use shorts too. It’s comfortable and don’t we deserve to be comfy, especially during the summer?
So what about you? Do you find yourself rocking out a pair of shorts, graphic tank, flip flops and a cute hat this summer? Comment below and let me know what you’re wearing while out and about and playing tourist this summer?
