I wouldn’t consider myself to be the object of anyone’s hair envy… in fact, I have mentioned time and time again how much I have grown in learning how to care for and treat my hair over the years.  But, apparently – my hair is a strong asset for me and something I’m known for.  Long, curly… absolutely unruly at times, my locks are a statement all their own and they definitely have come a long way.  Over the years I have tried many many hair care products and have found my favorites in both the expensive and high-end brands and those you find more affordable and at the drugstore.  But, I’m always on the hunt for a hair care line that will offer my hair results consistently as well as something I know I can afford at a moments notice, not something I have to save up for.  I’ve talked about HASK here on my blog a few times over the last couple of years and I have so because I have absolutely enjoyed the line.  Today I share with you the HASK Kalahari Melon Oil Hair Care Collection and my thoughts on the products as well as how they have worked for my hair.

The HASK Kalahari Melon Oil Collection consists of four products (as does most of the HASK hair care collections) in the line – Shampoo, Conditioner, Deep Conditioner and Shine Oil.  Each product is formulated with Color Shield Complex, which helps to protect color-treated hair from damage and fading caused by every day washing and heat styling.

So what is Kalahari Melon Oil?  Well, the Kalahari Melon is found in the African desert and thrives by retaining its moisture in the driest conditions.  The Kalahari Melon has moisturizing, regenerating and restructuring properties thanks to its high content of essential fatty acids (50 – 70% linoleic acid) which is known to help contribute to the integrity of the cell wall and to the suppleness and beauty of your skin and hair.  When the oil is extracted and used in beauty regimens, it plays a key role in the regulation of hydration and restructuring of the epidermis of the skin and hair follicle.  This wonderful ingredient counteracts moisture loss and fading, leaving your color-treated hair healthy and vibrant.

Let’s take a look at each product and discuss the benefits and uses, shall we?

Kalahari Melon Oil Color Protection Shampoo ($5.99 – 12 fl.oz. / 355 mL) helps to shield and replenish the hair.  With the color Shield Complex, it has a UV absorber to help protect colored hair from damage and fading.  The Kalahari Melon Oil helps to lock in your color and block damage from your hair, leaving it nourished and shiny.  With the Color Shield Complex, cranberry and sunflower oils, this shampoo will delicately cleanse without stripping, drying or fading your hair and provide long lasting, vibrant color.  Simply apply to wet hair, massage into a lather, rinse thoroughly and repeat if desired.  This product is ideal for daily use, but I only wash my hair 2 – 3 times a week so I use as such.

** After using this product, my hair looked shinier, felt soft and was very manageable.  What I love the most about it is even if it is oil infused, my hair did not look or feel weighted down or heavy and it was not greasy after the 2nd and 3rd day without washing.

Kalahari Melon Oil Color Protection Conditioner ($5.99 – 12 fl.oz. / 355 mL) also helps to shield and replenish the hair.  With the same Color Shield Complex as the shampoo, it absorbs UV to protect colored hair from damage and fading.  The conditioner softens, detangles and helps to maintain long lasting vibrant color.  To use apply to wet hair after shampooing or use as a co-washing product.  Leave on for 1-2 minutes and rinse thoroughly.  This product is ideal for daily use as well, though again – I use it as much as the shampoo.

** After using this product my hair felt really soft and tangles literally fall out of my hair without finger combing.  I absolutely love the scent and love how soft my hair feels.

Kalahari Melon Oil Color Protection Deep Conditioner ($2.99 – 1.75 fl.oz. / 50g) also includes the Color Shield Complex to protect your colored hair from damage and fading.  This deep conditioner is an ultra-restorative, hydrating treatment that will preserve and nurture your color treated hair.  With the Kalahari Melon Oil, it helps to counteract dry-out and fading, leaving your hair soft and nourished while still helping to maintain the long-lasting vibrant color we all look for in our hair.  To use this deep conditioner, simply apply a generous amount to your clean, wet hair.  Due to the length of my hair – I usually will get two uses out of one packet, depending on the conditioning process I’m following.  Massage into your hair focusing on the damaged areas and leave on for 10 minutes.  Rinse well and style as usual.  You can use this deep conditioner ideally 1-2 times a week or as needed.  I usually use it once a week and have used this particular product several times.

** It’s hard to find a good deep conditioner that doesn’t weigh my hair down or leave my scalp so greasy that I break out.  This one leaves my scalp feeling nice, but my hair is not heavy and feels great.

Kalahari Melon Oil Color Protection Shine Oil ($2.99 – 5/8 fl. oz. / 18mL)  is perfect to preserve and nurture your gorgeous colored locks.  This lightweight, alcohol-free oil instantly absorbs to help protect color treated hair and leaves behind no funky greasy residue.  It can be used on both wet and dry hair to create a silky, smooth finish.  Distribute a coin-sized amount evenly throughout hair and avoid the root area.  Apply more as you need and best used on hair already protected and treated with the HASK Kalahari Melon Oil System.

** I use this product on my hair when it is wet to help lock in and seal my hair shaft with much needed oil.  I also use this product on my hair dry when I need to help give my hair a little extra shine, eliminate some frizz and bring back much needed moisture in my locks.  While it is suggested to not get near the root area, I can’t help to avoid it sometimes, but I don’t notice that my hair is weight down or greasy at all.

I’ve been meaning to try this brand, but now I really want to. This sounds perfect for hair.

  4. I love the sound of these products. So glad the oil in it doesn’t weigh down your hair–I have to be so careful with my fine hair. The packaging is pretty too!

  5. With hair as long as yours I know you need more than the rest of us. This sounds great. I worry though about the fragrance in Hask products.

I still haven’t tried this brand, but I need to! I’ve heard amazing things

    • Hi there 🙂 Yes, I get mine from Target or Walmart. Target tends to have the entire line in stock, where as Walmart is always sold out. The good thing is that they really are about the same in cost no matter where you go. On occasion I can also find them at Walgreens or CVS (Longs), but I prefer to go to Target. 🙂 Good luck.
