Behind April’s Design
For the month of April (‘Apelila) I chose to share with you my photography and illustrations of the Liliko’i blossom, otherwise known as Passion Fruit. As many of you may know, I love florals and organic things and this blossom screams both.
In Hawai’i, the passion fruit (liliko’i) blossom blooms in March and April before the sweet and sour passion fruit begins its journey to harvest. Spring is one of my favorite seasons and I’m always reminded of the passion fruit I see blooming around the islands during this time of year.
Did you know that the liliko’i blossom only blooms (opens) for about one day, before it closes back up and starts to die? This exotic and lightly fragrant flower is so complex, colorful, and stunning that it still amazes me that we get to see such a beautiful sight for only 24 hours.
