Happy Happy December Fam! Can you believe we are already in the last month of 2021? I’m not gonna lie, I don’t feel sad about it. This year has brought so many great things, but it also has kept me entirely on my toes. Such is life, right?! For the month of December, I wanted to do something festive and keep with a traditional Christmas Holiday color scheme. So, I went with the ‘Ohia Lehua blossom and Hawai’i ferns that can be found in our islands.
Red & Green for the Holiday
So, let’s talk a bit about the reason behind my selections, shall we? I know that green and red for Christmas can seem a bit outdated, but honestly, it’s a traditional color selection. In years past, I have don’t blues, lavender, pink and different metallic shades for sticker sets, but I guess I never really thought about much red and green. Interestingly enough, I don’t even recall having that set up for any of my Holiday decor in my adult life – ever! So, I decided, hey – let’s do it.
Behind the Illustrations
In this collection, I feature the ‘ohia lehua blossoms as well as the laua’e, kupukupu, palapalai, and ho’i’o (here on Maui it’s known as Pohole fern) ferns. These tropical beauties are a part of the Hawaiian islands and my native Hawaiian history. I absolutely loved illustrating them and I loved creating these freebies for you.
