Let’s face it, we all have a red lipstick that we feel gives us life.  That one shade that we know we couldn’t live without and feel invigorated, strong, warrior like when we wear it.  If you don’t have that red lipstick yet, don’t worry – you’ll surely find it.  Overall – red lipstick for me is an easy one due to my skin tone… and I find that many colors go pretty well with my complexion but there is one red lipstick that gives me wings, makes me feel like I can take on the World… my Unicorn!  Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Black Tie is my showstopping red.  I feel like it was made specifically for me… my war paint in a bullet.

Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Black Tie

Inspired by the golden years of Hollywood – when glamour was in every detail, Poppy King designed a lipstick collection of the red carpet, the people, the places and the personalities.  Now, this collection is not new.  Released in the Fall of 2013, Velvet Rope is a collection so popular, it’s still available now in 2015.  Black Tie which is this gorgeous gorgeous (yes, I did say it twice) deep red that feels like luxury on the lips.  This intense, rich and bold shade is perfect for the Fall and Winter months… but don’t despair, it is a shade I use year round.

Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Black Tie

Just as it was inspired by Hollywood, this gorgeous lippy comes with a rich price tag… $50 for luxury in a tube.  Yes, that price is OUCH… but let me tell you, once you get this feather like matte lipstick on your lips, you will know why it has such a hefty cost behind it.  This lipstick is literally glamour and luxury for your lips.  It’s pigment is to die for… and the lipstick formulation is feather-light, soft and unlike any matte lipstick to grace your pout.  It’s comfortable on the lips and while matte it feels like satin.  Just at application, you will see how effortlessly this lipstick glides onto the lips.  Just trying this lipstick for the first time is an experience all its own.

The Velvet Rope lipsticks glide weightlessly and leave a rich, intense color in a single application.  The lipstick has an ultra-soft, velvety texture that leaves your lips feeling moisturized and looking fabulous.  Each lipstick is formulated with Vitamin E and Apricot Oil to ensure that your lips remain moisturized and supple while wearing and Peppermint Oil to add a clean subtle scent.  If you don’t like Peppermint Oil, do not worry because I didn’t pick up the scent while using it easily so it should not bother you.

Packaging is ooh la la.  Come on now, Honey loves anything gold… and this screams Hollywood.  The tube itself is heavy and feels like something you would expect to find on a vanity from a 1920’s movie.  It has a unique squared shape and a magnetic closure.  You can literally feel it close as you are putting the cap back on the tube.  It’s very chic, very luxurious.

Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Black Tie

With over 200 lipsticks in my lippy collection, I have tried reds that I love and others not so much, but Black Tie has literally given me Super Hero Power.  Before this lipstick, I have not tried anything from Lipstick Queen and was afraid that I would not like it… but this lipstick is well worth the pricey cost because it is unlike any lipstick that has graced my lips.  This is my SECOND tube of this stuff… and while my first was sent to me as a press sample, the second I paid out of pocket.  I have not found a lipstick that has felt so comfortable on my pout and since I don’t see this talked about often, I figured it was time to discuss it here.

So – what do you think?  Have you tried this line from Lipstick Queen before?  If not, do you think this would be something you would splurge on?  I definitely suggest checking it out for yourself.  We all know I like to be real here and if I think something is not worth the cost – you know you’ll hear it here from me, but this… while a luxury item for sure, has definitely given me LIFE!

You can purchase this lipstick on the Lipstick Queen website.

  2. What a gorgeous, gorgeous (yeah 🙂 ) color! It is perfection on you. Red lipstick in general gives me life, lol, any other color just doesn’t feel quite right 🙂 I’ve been eyeing the Lipstick Queen line for a while… I need to win one of Ulta’s $500 survey drawings and just go to town, lol.
