The cateye “winged” liner is something that truly will never go out of trend – it’s absolutely timeless.  But, eye liners come and go and while some work well – others not so.  I have done my fair share of testing and trying out liners in a plethora of price points and brands and I’m always on the hunt for one that is not only affordable, but that will also be long lasting, smudge proof and do the job.  Today I bring to you my thoughts on the Jordana Cat eye Liners.  Let’s see if they live up to my standard.

A few months ago Jordana Cosmetics released their Cat Eye Liners in a variety of colors.  I actually came across these beauties at my local Walgreens in the “What’s New” display and picked up a few colors I knew I had to have and try out.  Shortly after, Jordana sent over the whole collection of shades for me to try and share with you.  Each eye liner retails for $2.99 and there are a total of eight shades – some very wearable like black and brown and others bold shades like green, blue and gold.  Jordana’s claim is that these liners are lightweight, long wearing, smudge-proof and can be used by those from beginner to pro.

The eye liner tip has a tapered brush applicator which is kind of standard when it comes to eye liners.  If you are like me and enjoy the NYC Liquid Eyeliner – you may like this liner as well.  The actual brush itself is not too long as to take away from control but offers good movement while still being stiff enough to create a nice wing.  I’m actually quite impressed with how nicely it glides on and find that it is easy to apply – though I have been creating a winged liner now for many years.

Left to Right: Black Leather (01), Black Brown (02), Orchid (03), Twilight (04), Caribbean (05), Envy (06), Suede (07) and Future (08)

Each shade has great pigmentation though some of them do require you apply more than one coat / layer.  I really like how the shades show up against my skin without issue and Black Leather (01) has been my go-to lately for a black liner when creating a wing.  These have a nice liquid consistency – they are not too runny or liquid-like but they are also not too thick which I think really makes a difference with application.

In the look above, I am using the Jordana Cat Eye liquid liner in Black Leather on my upper lash line to wing out the look.  A tutorial and full list of products for this look can be found here.

While I think these work great – especially for the cost, there are a few things that I could see worked on with regard to formulation.  While they are smudge proof, because I have watery eyes, I find that they do not last all day on me.  While the part of the liner on my lid will do fairly well, my outer corners or wing tends to fade and in some cases, it just comes off.  If I were to cry or tear up profusely it wouldn’t last and I would look like a raccoon.  Another issue I see, though not a problem for me, is the size of the brush applicator.  I don’t find an issue with it, but I’ve been creating winged liner and eye liner looks now for many years.  However, since the brush is quite small for those who are beginners, I can see how it would get frustrating when applying because the color deposited in one swipe is not as much due to the size of the brush.  It may take a few swipes over the lid to create the bold statement color someone is looking for.  While this is not an issue for me, I know that it can be for others so I figured that I would mention it.  While the liner is pigmented and the color bold in just one swipe, it may need to be built up to get the effect one is looking for.

Overall – I’m quite impressed with these liners.  Let’s face it, I’m always for shaving a buck and these are not only affordable, they do work.  Even with the little mentions of things that didn’t work for me, I’ve still been getting some great use out of these babies and I would recommend them.  For the price point – I think they are pretty darn cool.  I’m very impressed with what the drugstore brands have been releasing lately and it’s nice to see that the color range of drugstore products are really evolving.  You can purchase these products and more at your local Walgreens and CVS or online at Jordanacosmetics.com.

Have you tried these eye liners yet?  If so, what do you think about them?  If not, are you interested in testing them out for yourself?

    • Yes, I love their matte lipsticks – the new and the old/original. I think you’ll like some of their products.

I’ve used two so far and only one held up in my inner corner, I am excited to keep trying them! Love your look!

    • I usually don’t have trouble with my inner corner, but my outer corner is where the issue is or if I wing out my liner. My eyes are always tearing up too since they are sensitive. Still not bad for the price 😀

I saw this on your IG today and I couldn’t wait to read this. I’m so excited about colored liners during the summer because it’s so easy to add some spice without a lot of makeup. I may have to pick some of these up

    • have you tried using them over a primer? I haven’t had any issues with staining, but my liner is tattooed, so blues don’t normally show up if they are stained, unless they are stained really bad. I did notice it stained my hand a bit, but I always put my eye liner over primer on my lids and didn’t notice the same issues on the eyes. 🙂

I am on the lookout for these around here. I want to get the light blue and the darker purple. Your eyes are simply dreamy!!!

  4. The colors are beautiful but that size brush can be difficult to work with. It’s a great way to try something out of your comfort zone though.

  5. I love these colors, and your look is beautiful. I am definitely one of those that has trouble with winged liner and I can see these applicator tips being troublesome for me. But I think I will try them because the price is so good!

  6. Thanks for the great review of these eyeliners! I saw them at Kmart the other day and was wondering how they perform.
