You know, living on a small little island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean usually means that I get left out when it comes to events focused on beauty, etc. It’s not that I’m literally left out, but the fact is that many of those events don’t happen here in the islands. So, when they do – I make sure to attend and soak up as much information as I possibly can. About a week ago I was invited to attend the Maui Muse (which I shared about prior to the event here). I was excited to attend and my little sister came along with me to get a little knowledge for herself. The Maui Muse is the first event held here on Maui and was hosted by the Andaz Wailea Resort.
The Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort was absolutely excited to launch their new series hosted on the property, dubbed Maui Muse. This event features various artists across fashion, photography, music, beauty, wellness and much much more. The Maui Muse series at Andaz Maui will be offering guests the opportunity to learn new crafts from some of the world’s leading experts.
To kick off the launch, the first event was held on Tuesday, May 9th from 10am to 12pm and featured MAC Cosmetics as the Maui Muse guest. This gave guests at the resort as well as locals a chance to learn expert tips and tricks on a natural and easy beauty makeup look that can withstand the humid Hawaii weather. MAC Regional Makeup Artist Rebekah Higa. This event was hosted in a private room with a gorgeous view of the ocean. Rebekah performed a live demonstration that provided a plethora of techniques, suggested products and more to create a show stopping but “perfect for Hawaii” look.
I am a huge believer in continued learning, no matter how much you already know – there’s always room for improvement. Attending this event allowed me to get a personal makeup lesson without sacrificing a comfortable location or all the details. I think it’s also very important that when learning to apply makeup – it’s geared towards the weather and location the makeup will be worn. Many don’t realize that Hawaii weather makes makeup practically melt and great techniques and little tips and trips make a huge difference in application as well as longevity.
As an attendee, I received a little treat bag with face charts and a few samples of the products that were used in creating the makeup look – MAC Strobe Cream, MAC Lightful C Tinted Cream SPF 30 with Radiance Booster, MAC False Lashes Extreme Black, and samples of the MAC Shadescents and Lipsticks.
It’s always exciting and fun for me to attend these types of events because I’m reminded of the little details I tend to miss on a daily basis. Makeup is an artform and it’s fun to watch others get creative while learning a trick or two that I may not have remembered or never learned. I also get quite ecstatic when I get to learn about new products. Rebekah Higa (MAC Regional Training Makeup Artist) was so fun to watch and my sister and I surely learned a lot while attending.I’m not quite sure when the next Maui Muse event will be, but I’ll be sure to share it here should I get the information to do so. I definitely suggest checking it out and take advantage of this service that the resort offers. Besides, where else can you go and sit with a view like this one while learning a specific craft?
For more information you can call Andaz Maui Concierge at 808-243-4703.
Thank you Andaz Maui and Maui Muse for including me to take part in this event. I had a blast and look forward to the next.

We are literally just a few short days away from celebrating Mother’s Day. As a mother, I look forward to spending this day with my husband and sons because they are the ones that make me a mom, but this year, my eldest son will be off island for a band concert and I’m certainly going to miss him. If you’re wondering why it has taken me so long to share with you a little gift guide as I tend to do each year, well – that’s the reason! I’ve been able to spend this day with all of my boys since they were born so I have been in my own little pity party the last few days knowing that he wouldn’t be home. A few days ago, I realized that I needed to get over myself and be thankful that my husband and sons treat me like Mother’s Day is every day and no special day on the calendar is ever required. So – while I am a bit late at sharing my gift lift with all of you – I figured that I would make this post because any day is a great day to get a treat – right?
The first thing on my list is this gorgeous necklace from The Vintage Pearl which you can find on The Grommet. The Grommet has to be one of my go-to websites for finding unique gifts for my loved ones. This Messy Nest Necklace is a cute treasured keepsake and I absolutely love it. Whether you are getting it for your moms or grandmothers, I’m sure it will be a hit. The necklace starts at $42.00 and is handcrafted in the United States of antiqued silver wire. Each nest is handcrafted and filled with freshwater pearls – one for each child in the wearer’s heart. It’s set on a sterling silver ball chain and can be customized to match the number of children in the family. The creator of The Vintage Pearl is a mom herself and started creating from her kitchen table in hopes to be able to be a stay at home and work from home mom. This is probably one of my favorite pieces to share with you because it’s certainly a sentimental piece. I hope that The Vintage Pearl will offer this in gold one day.

Next is another gorgeous piece that can also be found on The Grommet. The Family Tree Necklace by Vintage Stamp Jewels is a great piece that can be worn every day. The delicate family tree charm represents the life connections that matter to each of us. You can choose the color and number of Swarovski crystal charms that accompany your tree. The bezel-set crystals can represent any important moments or people from birthstones of children or grandchildren, milestones and anniversaries or any special date or time that is close to your heart.

Now, when I think of Mother’s Day – I always associate a really great face mask as a gift. Here’s the deal, I LOVE an awesome face mask and some of my favorites come from Miss Spa. If you’ve been a long time follower of my blog, then you know I’ve raved and talked about this brand a lot over the years. What I love about Miss Spa is their wide range of masks available for a variety of skin types and textures. You literally can find one to fit your needs or someone you love.
Did I mention that these masks are so affordable? Depending on the type you select, they start at about $4.00 each and go up in price from there and you can easily find a mask that suits you. I definitely love a great face mask for Mother’s Day because I don’t have time for an at Spa pampering so I love doing it at home.
You can learn more about Miss Spa products, purchase your own or get it as a gift here or at your local Ulta or Drugstore.
Bath Bombs are a favorite gift to receive and to give on Mother’s Day. For years my sons and I made creations of our favorite scents and dried flowers to give as gifts, a tradition that my sisters and I did when we were teenagers. One of my long time favorite handcrafted websites for great bath, body and essential oils is Sky Organics. I’ve been using their essential oils for a few years now and I just had to include them in this guide. All moms deserve a little pampering and bath bombs are those little fizzy wonders that just help any mom relax. Sky Organics offers their Organic Bath Bombs Gift Set for just $25.99 (one of my favorites besides my own handmade ones) and it includes 6 beautiful bath bombs in an assortment of scents – Caribbean Coconut (my favorite), Lavender Lemon Muffin, Love Potion, Mermaid Kiss, Strawberry Milkshake and Sugar Rose. These beauties are made in the USA and each bath bomb has a net weight of 5 oz. It’s a total steal for sure.
If bath bombs aren’t your thing, then be sure to check out their wide range of essential oils. They offer a set with all of their oils for just $50. Did I mention they also provide FREE SHIPPING. Head on over to their website here for more information.
LATHER is another company I recommend to anyone and they offer gift sets that are perfect for Mother’s Day or any day of the year. Their Dream On set ($58.00) includes their blue chamomile foaming bath treatment, lavender aromatherapy candle, Art of Tea sleep tea handcrafted loose leaf tea (organic), tea infuser, quiet night relaxing balm, eye mask, and a reusable gift box. All of these essentials are perfect for treating mom to a night of a little peace, quiet and relaxation. With my sleepless nights and insomnia, this kid would be the absolute perfect way for me to just settle down and relax.

I’ve been swooning over IT Cosmetics the last few months now and I knew I just had to include some of these beauties. Honestly, I’ve been totally stalking IT Cosmetic’s website now making a VERY LARGE wish list of items I want to try. I have literally only tried their Je Ne Sais Quoi Lip Treatment and Bye Bye Under Eye, so I find that this portion of my post has an ulterior motive for me… hehehe! Maybe my friends and family who see this will snatch something from IT for me for Mother’s Day. Hey, one can hope, right. j/k! This year IT Cosmetics is offering a bunch of IT girl essentials that will literally have your Mom feeling her most beautiful on this special day and always.

But, this NEW Je Ne Sais Quoi Lip Treatment is now available in Rose. It contains the essential butters and oils, hyaluronic filling spheres and antioxidants for your softest and smoothest looking pout while it flushes your lip to the perfect rosy pink. Who says hair products and tools don’t make great gifts? Not me! I would love to get a fab hair tool for Mother’s Day so I figured I would include something that would help mom eliminate the “hair tool storage” and get a 3 in 1 that can do the trick. The CHI Ellipse 3-in-1 Styling Iron is a great tool to make convenience mom’s game. You can create a multitude of looks using this very versatile styler that includes 3 styling options in one tool. With Teflon and Titanium plates to create smooth and sleep styles on a non-stick surface. You can great smooth hair, curls and waves with just one tool. The styler has adjustable temperature settings that heat up to 410 °F / 210 °C. It has a ceramic heater for consistent temperature and an LED touch sensitive temperature control and display. You also get a temperature lock feature (oooh… fancy) and a 1 hour shut-off. I also love that it comes with it’s own glove, so you have everything you need for the perfect hair style. The CHI Ellipse 3-in-1 Styling Iron retails for $110 but the price is reasonable considering the quality of the product and the fact that you can use it for more than one style.
You can learn more about this tool or grab one for yourself or your mom here.
This next gift idea is untraditional, but definitely something worth mentioning. The Revolar Instinct (I’ll have a full review on this product in the next week or so) has been a very important part of my everyday. Retailing for $80, this little device can be the perfect gift in a big way. The Revolar is a product that is brand new (the Indiegogo campaign has just completed) but a tool that I think is very worth the while. It’s a quarter sized connect button that with 1-3 clicks, the Instinct can send different custom alerts to friends and family to let them know where the user is and what level of help they need. Unfortunately, sexual assault is on a rise here in the United States and violence against women is at an all-time high. You can send help to your location with a few clicks of this wearable device. It not only empowers you to be proactive about your safety, but this little Instinct will help ou stay in touch with loved ones as well. Did I mention it also tracks your steps? There are no chords, and easy to use device and you can replace a battery in about a year so you don’t have to worry about charging it. Last year my mom was sitting in a parking lot when someone tried to attack her. Luckily she was in her car and was able to escape. When I was 4 years old, a man attempted to kidnap me, I was in his car and he was about to drive away when my dad stopped him in his tracks. Devices like this are easy to use and definitely worth it. I wish I had one for each person in my family. I had to share this with you because it’s a gift I think that would be invaluable to any mom and anyone. Like I said, a full review will be coming soon – so stay tuned.

I’ll be honest, as a mother, I can honestly say that any type of gift is such a wonderful sentiment, but I never expect it. I think that Mother’s Day is every day of the year for me and I’m so lucky to call myself a mom. I love creating handmade gifts for my mom and my mother in law from all of us because I think it’s special and I’m quite good with a glue gun. Little flowers or hairpins decorated in fabric or paper always seem to make our loved ones happy. At the end of the day – a gift should come from the heart, whether purchased or made. My sons make me handmade cards each year and I cherish them with all my heart.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
I want to remind you that Mother’s Day is every single day of the year. If you’ve been following me a while then you know that I believe this to be so with Valentine’s Day too. Hmmm… I wish Christmas and birthdays were every day of the year also, hahaha! Anyway – no matter the gift or sentiment you give to the moms in your life, make it special. This last minute gift guide was not intended to be late, but I’m reminded that a present for mom doesn’t have to be given only one day a year so even if you miss picking up one of these for that special lady in your life – feel free to use this as a guide to put together a special treat for her at anytime.
I want to take this time to wish all of the mommies out there (whether you have human children or fur babies) a wonderful Mother’s Day this Sunday. May your day be filled with lots of love and hugs and a whole lot of warmth and happiness.
“To the world you are a Mother, but to your family you are the World.”

Happy Aloha Friday. I figured that I would stop in today and share with you some info on a product I’ve been using over the last month. I don’t use heat on my hair often, well – honestly, it’s a rare occasion. But, I have been showering late at night lately since my schedule has me out later in the day and to keep from going to bed with wet hair, I have been using a dryer to help a sistah out a bit. Today, I’m going to be sharing with you the Conair Infiniti Pro 584NP-6 Hair Dryer, so let’s get started, shall we?
The Infinity PRO by Conair comes with Conair’s lightest weight professional AC motor. Retailing for just $59.99, it is a 1875 Watt hair dryer that offers you 3 heat settings and 2 speed settings for the perfect control over styling your hair. Ceramic technology provides infrared heat to protect your hair from heat damage and a true cold shot button to provide you with a burst of cold when you need it. With concentrator and diffuser attachments and a removable filter so you have all the tools on hand for your favorite hair styles and to dry your hair.
The hair dryer is quite lightweight and has been comfortable for me to hold in my hands, even with my carpal tunnel syndrome. I also have very long hair and love that my hands, arms and wrists don’t feel like they just had a workout after using the dryer. With it’s Ionic Technology – you will get up to 75% less frizz (compared to hair dryers with natural ion generation) and I love that it dryers my hair quickly, without causing my hair to feel dry or brittle.
The Infinity PRO by Conair is definitely powerful considering the weight of the dryer. My hair is long (as I mentioned previously), but below my waist, so drying my curly hair can be a pain in my behind. With this dryer I find that I am able to dry my hair quickly which is wonderful. Besides the Ionic Technology, the Infinity PRO also has Ceramic Technology to provide infrared heat to help protect your hair from heat damage. Since I have curls, I want to be able to dry my hair without the added frizz and without the damage, especially since my hair is so long. This dryer has definitely been a great addition to my hair game.
So – now that I gave you a bunch of the details on what it does to my hair and how it works, let’s talk about the gorgeous look of this hair dryer. The beautiful champagne color with rose gold accents makes a great addition to any beauty lovers vanity. I am loving how this looks and I was beyond impressed with the packaging overall. It’s also very durable considering how lightweight the dryer is. I have dropped this on my tile flooring at least 5 different times and it’s held up extremely well without breaking. Of course, I don’t suggest you doing that.
“Lightweight yet powerful, perfect for precision styling.”
While I’m not big on using heat on my hair often, when I do, I always want to make sure I’m using something that will not add any additional stress to my hair. Living in Hawaii in general already takes a toll on my hair because of the humidity and warmth, not to mention the fact that my hair is curly and long – all things that contribute to my hair being so finicky. A good styling tool is always a great thing to have in my beauty arsenal. Considering the cost of this dryer and how it easy it is to use and how it works, I definitely would recommend it to anyone. This dryer is definitely a spring and summer beauty hack – leaving you with dry and styled hair in shorter drying time. I definitely suggest anyone checking it out.
You can purchase this product and learn more about here.
So what about you? Can you see adding this hair dryer to your hair routine?

Hello party people. It seems like I’ve been a little MIA this week, but I promise I have good reason as to why. You see, all three of my boys are on Spring Break, so that basically means mommy is on break too so we’ve been busy spring cleaning the house, donating and having lots of fun. So, I’ve taken a little break from the blog a few days this week to play and have some fun with my family. Nonetheless though, I wanted to share with you some products I’ve been loving from Jordana Cosmetics. The Contour N’ Highlight Sticks are new to me, having just come across them about 2 weeks ago at my local drugstore, but the Sweet Cream Matte Liquid Lipsticks are a formula I know about and I was so excited to get my hands on some shades that are wearable. (You can read about my review on these from last year, here)
Let’s talk about the Contour N’ Highlight Sticks. These retail for $4.99 each and you can select from the Jordana Sculpt N’ Go Creamy Contour Stick which offers three different contour shades (Light, Medium and Deep) and come in an easy to use stick form. The Contour sticks help you add shape and definition to your features in 30 seconds or less. What makes these so fun is that they are mistake-proof, blendable and matte with a buildable formula for soft to glam looks. I have it in the color Deep, which is actually darker than I had thought but it blends out so well, the darker color works for my skin tone.
I use the Contour stick and apply below my cheekbones, jawline, hairline and sides of my nose. While the tip of this stick is pointed for great precision, after lots of use I’m sure it will take away the point but applying the product is still easy. I have been loving how easy this product is to blend out and the way it feels on my skin is wonderful. It has a kind of cream to powder texture. After applying, I blend it out to a powder like finish so it doesn’t feel heavy or cakey on the skin and I don’t notice that it oxidizes or looks too heavy. I love how light weight it feels and I’m very amazed at how much I’m enjoying this stick. It’s perfect for daily use for light contouring or for a full blown glammed up look.
The Jordana Glow N’ Go Creamy Strobing Stick also comes in three shades – Pearl Glow, Champagne, and Gold. I have Champagne (Radiant Glow) and have really been loving this product as much as the contour stick. This product is the perfect creamy and blendable highlighter stick that melts flawlessly onto the skin for a mistake proof application. You can use this product to create the perfect strobe or for a light and subtle highlight for everyday use. Like the Contour Stick, the Creamy Strobing Stick is also creamy and blends out to a powder like finish.
This product can be applied above the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, center of the forehead and below and above lips to add glow where desired. It’s also easily blended with your fingers. It doesn’t feel heavy or too creamy and I haven’t noticed any creasing. It’s perfect to use on it’s own or set with a powder highlight.
Each product offers a Net Wt. of 0.23 oz / 6.5 g so for the price point you get a lot of product to use and it’s easy to repurchase when it’s used up.
Jordana is one of my favorite drugstore cosmetic brands and I thought these would be something fun to use, but I didn’t realize I would like it as much as I did. I’m really impressed – especially because of the price point and how well they performed considering its cost.
Now let’s talk about the Sweet Cream Matte Liquid Lip Colors. These retail for $4.99 and as I mentioned previously, I actually have a review on my blog with a few of the shades. The bright pink, coral and purple shade I got last year are definitely not my daily wearers so I had been on a hunt now for a while in hopes of finding more neutral tones at my local stores to add to my collection.
I found four gorgeous shades that are wearable every day tones in nude pinks and browns that I just love. So, while I did provide a review for you on these lippies initially last year, today I’m sharing swatches of these colors. If you are looking for wearable shades that are comfortable on the lips – I definitely suggest picking these babies up.
I picked up the following colors: Rose Macaron, Creme Brulee, Tiramisu and Cinnamon Toast. Cinnamon Toast a new color added to the line not too long ago, but the other three were a part of the collection, though I just couldn’t get my hands on them. I had been on the hunt for Creme Brulee for months now and I’m so glad I found it at Walgreens a few weeks ago.
I love these shades because they are not only wearable but these matte lipsticks are one of my most comfortable to wear. They are creamy when applied and while they dry down to a matte finish, I find that my lips do not feel overly dry. They are creamy and feel almost whipped like when applying to the lips and I just love their longevity. Jordana has a variety of colors from bold and red to nudes and pinks so you really get a lot of lip colors to choose from. They also have the same type of doe foot applicator that the others I reviewed have and I enjoy them.
Net wt. 0.11 oz / 3 g in each tube of lipstick
These colors stay on for hours – they claim it’s a 16 Hour Wear time and I can get at least 10 hours without any budging. They are infused with Vitamin A, made in the USA and are water resistant. What I love is that you get 12 gorgeous shades for any and all skin tones.
The video below is my original review of the Jordana Sweet Creme Matte Liquid Lipsticks, but I thought I would include it anyway. My thoughts haven’t changed at all with these lippies.
Honestly, I’m always impressed with Jordana products. There’s a reason why most of their products are a part of my collection – I enjoy them and like them. If you are someone like me that loves a no-fuss kind of makeup look, you’ll surely love how easy these products are to use. I definitely suggest checking them out if you haven’t already and see how they fit in your every day makeup routine.
You can purchase these products at: https://www.jordanacosmetics.com or at select drugstores that sell these products. I got mine at Walgreens.
So – what about you, have you tried any of these before? I’d love to hear your thoughts on them if you have or if not, do you think you’d get any use out of these beauties?
Disclaimer: I purchased these products with my own money. All opinions are my own, 100% honest & unbiased, as with anything found on this site. Affiliate links may be listed through out.
It’s that time of year when I start to pick up a few key items when it comes to makeup. The last few years I haven’t done much makeup shopping – to be honest, I’ve been doing really well with my spending. But, I tend to pick up a few items to try towards the first few months of a new year. About 3 weeks ago I found myself browsing through the aisles at my local Walmart – mainly because I was getting my oil changed and had nothing to do for an hour. I know, I know – bad idea. But, I found that it was actually a good time to check out the new cosmetic finds. Within the last couple of months, Wet n Wild released their Perfect Pout Gel Lip Balms and I had seen a bunch in stock at Walmart at about $2.99 a pop so I decided, hey – I want to try these and I picked them up. Today I’m going to be sharing with you my thoughts on the Wet n Wild Perfect Pout Gel Lip Balms and we’ll see if they were a hit for me.
Wet n Wild claims that this is their 1st Gel lip balm that provides a natural looking, sheer gloss that glides on smoothly while delivering lasting moisture and a sheer, glossy color. I picked up a total of five shades, mainly because I really want to see the different range of colors and how they would work with my skin tone. In all honesty, I didn’t think these would pack much of a color.
These Perfect Pout Gel Lip Balms come in 7 different shades. Wet n Wild says that these are more glamorous than your regular lip balm, yet more natural looking than lipstick with it’s breakthrough color and gel formula.
“Your pout gets wrapped in luxury and kissed with a soft, barely there shade of glossy gorgeousness. You will never want to be without it.”
Now, for years I have been a fan of the Maybelline Baby Lips. This particular lip balm is ideal for me to take on the go and toss in my purse while offering my lips a smooth balm that is perfect for every day use. I had wondered if these Perfect Pout Lip Balms from Wet n Wild were similar. After applying the first color on my lips (while in the waiting area of Walmart because my lips didn’t have any balm and were feeling dry), I was immediately impressed with how easily this balm glided on. I didn’t have a mirror to look at the color so I had no idea what it looked like on. I went to the car when my oil change was complete and realized that I had a really pretty soft pink hue to my lips. I was impressed. Having used Maybelline Baby Lips for years and knowing that while they offered a tint of color – because my lips are darker than most, I don’t see the hue very often. I was very impressed with the color payoff of the Wet n Wild.
So, let’s get down to business… how are these lip balms? First, if I had to compare them to Maybelline Baby Lips, honestly – I don’t think I’d buy a Baby Lips again. I love the pigmentation on these lippies, they have nice color and perfect for my style. The fact that the tinted ones show up on my dark toned lips are a big deal for me. They allow me to put them on and run out the door looking put together. They glide on a lot easier than Baby Lips as well. There are times when some of my Baby Lips balms slightly tug on my lips when applying. I’m thinking that the gel formula may have some to do with the slip. If you are looking for a lip product with slip and that glides on – you’ll enjoy this one.
On my lips – Love
The Perfect Pout Balms feel good on the lips but you certainly have to reapply after eating and drinking. They are not really long lasting and longevity is basic – nothing to write home to mom about. But, I feel for the cost and the basic need of these, they work.
Left to Right – Kiss, Tease, Play, Love, Rule
With regard to moisturizing the lips – they definitely moisturize my lips and I haven’t noticed any drying or odd feeling after using all day. I have been enjoying these for every day use because I have a few colors to choose from and they are perfect for days I have no makeup or only mascara.
These lip balms feel very comfortable on the lips – lots of slip for someone like me who loves to pucker their lips often. The color does transfer onto anything your lips touch – including my husband’s lips but it still looks fairly natural so he wasn’t too bothered by it. These are very glossy on – so it looks like you have something on your lips for sure. I love how smooth it is and how smooth it leaves my lips. Formulated with Vitamin E, Avocado Oil and a proprietary Phytosterol complex – my lips are left feeling quite nice.

There is a huge con for these lippies however. Do NOT leave these in the car, especially if it is a hot day. I’m thinking due to the gel-like formula, they melt easier. I left mine in my purse and ran into the store to grab a bottle of water. I was only gone about 5 minutes and when I came back to the car – it was so soft it basically mushed some what. It wasn’t even a hot day – so I was disappointed to find how soft the product was after the short time. This is the type of balm you definitely don’t want to leave in your pocket because your body heat can melt or soften the product easily.
These lip balms are very lightly scented in my opinion – I could smell a hint of what I thought was a fruit like fragrance, but couldn’t quite figure it out and I didn’t find that they had any flavor – maybe it was just me. Overall – at the price point, (they are cheaper here in Hawaii than Maybelline Baby Lips) I think I may replace these in the future when I run out of them.
You can purchase these products where ever Wet n Wild products are sold – I have been seeing them at Walmart, Walgreens, Target and CVS here. They are also available online at Wetnwildbeauty.com
So what about you? Have you heard or tried these lip balms from Wet n Wild? Do you think these are worth checking out. If you do, definitely let me know in the comments below your thoughts.
Have a great day.
