As a child growing up in Hawaii, you could find Aloe Vera plants everywhere and anywhere you could think of, including our backyard.  My dad used it to treat our burns and sunburn during the summer and other medicinal uses, but I had never heard about drinking aloe water until a few years ago, maybe because I didn’t pay attention to it much or it wasn’t told to me directly.  With my sons in full sports mode for summer (we are finishing up basketball season and going into football season in about a month), we always try to ensure that we keep all of our boys fully hydrated and ready to play in the hot summer sun.  Today, I share with you my thoughts and my son Kevin’s on Detox Water, a Bioactive Aloe Water.

Detox Water is a mother inspired drink created by Founder Kenneth Park.  In his childhood days Kenneth’s mother had experienced serious digestive issues and no medication worked in trying to heal her ailments.  A doctor she seen suggested trying aloe.  By adding aloe water to her diet, she not only resolved her stomach problems, but she improved her immune response to the on-going stomach pains.  After realizing the plethora of benefits she experienced from ingesting aloe, Ken’s mother shared her smoothies with the rest of the family.  Each morning with breakfast she would serve her delicious aloe-filled smoothies, blended with fruits and yogurt to neutralize the plant’s naturally bitter taste.

Detox Water is actually the re-launch of the business that Kenneth started in his dorm room at Babson College.  In 2012, he created Superleaf Organic Aloe Juice and sold cases on campus, while juggling classwork and business.  While it was quite successful – Superleaf drink was similar in variation to existing aloe drinks on the market – which did not deliver all the potential health benefits of truly bioactive aloe vera.  After going back to the grind and working everything out, Detox Water became what it is today.

“Detox Water was born in the spirit of my mom and is testament to a strong commitment to health  I believe in aloe vera’s healing properties because it healed me, prepared me for every day.  I created Detox Water to share my experience with you, help you heal from the inside out.” – Kenneth Park (Founder, Detox Water)

Detox Water is available in three different delicious flavors – Original, Pinamint and Mangaloe.  Each bottle contains 350mg of ACTIValoe aloe gel flakes with no less than 10% aloe polysaccarides by dry weight.  I know it’s a lot of technical talk – but basically, that means it’s comparable to drinking a shot of the most extensitively researched and clinically-proven pure aloe juice.  Each bottle is filled with electrolytes and vitamins to help replenish and restore your body with electrolytes, vitamin c and a full range of vitamin b’s.  What also makes this so wonderful is that Detox Water is made without the use of artificial colors, flavors and preservatives.  The aloe water is able to provide healthy hydration from the best of what nature has to offer.  Detox Water is just 15 calories per serving and is rejuvenating, refreshing aloe water paired with organic and natural flavors.  It’s literally something that helps to make you feel great and not guilty.

My entire family has been loving Detox Water – so much so that we have already repurchased a case for us to share.  Each case retails for $45.00 (12 bottles).  My son Kevin however, has been loving Detox Water as a way to re-hydrate after his basketball games.  Most of the gyms here in Hawaii are old and many of them do not have air circulation through out.  After an extensive game my son’s shirts are drenched in sweat and he’s beyond exhausted.  Drinking Detox Water that has been chilled is a great way to hydrate and really just give his body back the nutrients he lost while running about the court.

“Detox Water tastes GREAT!  The Mangaloe is my favorite but all of the flavors taste really good.  After one sip I feel hydrated and refreshed.  I love to drink a few sips of this during half-time to get my energy back and give me the extra electrolytes my body needs to recover from an intense game.  I have never tried aloe water before, but you can’t taste any bitter flavor at all.  It’s delicious and I really enjoy it.” – Kevin

As a mother, I try to instill proper care of your body and health to all of my children.  We are all busy bodies in our household and by teaching my sons at a young age that caring for your well-being is important, I’m hoping it will continue on with them as they become adults and well into their life.  I also suffer from ailments of health and have found after drinking Detox Water, it has improved my issues with my stomach, my IBS and other problems I have been experiencing.  I’m not a doctor, but I do notice that things have improved with my health, and of course – my son noticed immediately after drinking his first Detox Water how his body felt rejuvenated.

I received Detox Water over a month ago and my family and I have really tested the products for a long period of time to see it’s benefits.  I’m beyond impressed and as I stated before, we have already placed an order for replenishing our water.  I have never tried anything like it before and I didn’t think it would taste as good as it did.

If you are interested in trying Detox Water for yourself and getting you a case – you can do so by checking out their website.  You can opt to do a single purchase of a Detox Water case or sign up for their Delivery Subscription and get 20% off your orders.  I haven’t found anywhere local that sells this water as of yet, so we have to order our case online.  However, it’s worth it if you are looking for Immunity boosts and other benefits like skin health & anti-aging, and anti-inflammatory and heart health help.  I have been really liking how it has helped my stomach, my blood pressure and my immune system.

A few months ago, I was introduced to LATHER, a skincare brand that maintains that… “It’s what’s inside that counts.” After having the opportunity to try one of their soaps and a yummy scented candle, I knew that LATHER would be a brand that I would enjoy.  Today, I am sharing with you a few items from the line that I have been enjoying as well as a little about the company and who they are.  LATHER’s motto is “Clean skin for a radiant life” and their products offer a variety of different skin loving ingredients and essential oils that help to do just that.

LATHER, Lather spa, skin care, essential oils, radiant life, body care, bath, bath and body, aromatherapy, soap, gift ideas, product review, beauty,

LATHER started as a dream by Emilie Davidson who suffered from migraines and had a passion for aromatherapy and a growing passion and interest in skin care.  Emilie took this interest into action by starting LATHER which originally included a small line of pure olive oil soaps which quickly gained a cult following.  From a one person operation to a full-fledged business now offering body, face, hair and home products, Emilie opened the first LATHER store in Pasadena in 1999.  Now, almost 20 years later and LATHER is open in different states and sold in beauty boutiques, spas and hotels.  Something that started as a passion is now what drives Emilie to provide outstanding products that really do make a difference.  The mission of LATHER is to offer this awesome and superior body care experience by creating products using the best and highest quality natural ingredients while providing outstanding service that will not only treat the skin but educate the consumer.

The Coconut Creme Body Whip ($22.00 / Net. wt. 4oz) is one of my favorite products that I have tried so far.  If you know anything about me, it’s that a product that smells like coconut and includes skin loving coconut oil is definitely something I will love and cherish.  This product has stole my heart from the first use and it is one I know I’ll continue to use.  This beautiful and silky whipped body creme feels wonderful on my skin and leaves my skin feeling moisturized while calming my eczema flare ups.  With coconut oil to provide a light moisturization and aloe vera to provide calming relief to sensitive, irritated or sunburned skin – this body whip is the perfect product for spring or summer months as you get over the winter dry skin spells.  Paraben Free and formulated with precious essential oils like tonka bean, patchouli, geranium and vanilla – this body whip has a light but prominent sweet warm scent.  If you are sensitive to fragrances, I think this may be a winner.  It’s lightly scented and never affects my allergies.  To say I love this product is an understatement.  My skin is soft for hours and in some cases I need not apply anymore body creme for 24 hours or more because my skin is still soft and moisturized.

Ingredients: water (aqua), glycerin, carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, stearic acid, fragrance*, aloe barbadensis leaf juice**, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, phospholipids, tocopheryl acetate, retinyl palmitate, ascorbyl palmitate, cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, ceteareth-20, dimethicone, sodium polyacrylate, tetrasodium edta, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, ethylhexylglycerin, hexylene glycol, aminomethyl propanol, carbomer.

The Coconut Foaming Body Scrub ($21.00 / Net. wt. 4oz) literally is my spa day at home product.  This wonderful body scrub smells absolutely divine.  I have stated this before, but I have a thing for sweet scents and this line has stolen my heart 10 fold.  The scent is warm and sweet and reminds me of coconut, vanilla and a salted caramel.  The scrub is super gentle and feels wonderful on my sensitive skin.  It scrubs and cleanses at the same time as it exfoliates it works into a moisturizing and creamy lather.  The body scrub includes natural exfoliants like coconut shell, jojoba beads, walnut shell, bamboo stem powder and minerals that help slough away the dead skin and rough dry patches on places like elbows, knees and feet.  Formulated with sugar cane and mixed fruit extracts – this scrub boosts surface exfoliation with alpha hydroxy acids leaving your skin smooth and soft.  This body scrub is paraben-free and sulface-free and I think anyone would enjoy it.

Since I have sensitive skin, I tend to steer clear of products with shells like walnut as the additive for exfoliating… but found that this scrub was very gentle and I not only enjoyed the way it felt on my skin, I loved how my skin felt once it was washed away.  It’s easy to use… simply apply to your damp skin and rub in circular motions to work up a lather.  Rinse well with warm water once done.  Note – this is not to be used on the face.

Ingredients: water (aqua), quartz, hydrogenated jojoba oil, hydrated silica, lauryl glucoside, juglans regia (walnut) shell powder, sodium cocoamphoacetate, sodium methyl cocoyl taurate, glycerin, fragrance*, bambusa arundinacea stem powder, cocos nucifera (coconut) shell powder, aloe barbadensis leaf juice**, saccharum officinarum (sugar cane) extract, citrus limon (lemon) fruit extract, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel extract, pyrus malus (apple) fruit extract, cocos nucifera (coconut) fruit extract, ananas sativus (pineapple) fruit extact, sea salt, polysorbate 80, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin, citric acid. *natural fragrance **organic ingredient

The Yuzu Sugar Cane Body Buff ($21.00 / Net. wt. 4oz) smells like fresh Yuzu and citrus.  As soon as you touch this body scrub, you can instantly feel the moisturizing oil blends that it’s formulated with.  Made with pure can sugar to gently exfoliate the surface cells, this body scrub leaves your skin so smooth and soft but also very moisturized.  It is formulated with a blend of essential oils including yuzu, mandarin orange, ylang ylang, litsea cubeba, jasmine and oakmoss.  This is a spa-experience in a jar.  This paraben-free scrub is the perfect product to use in the morning when you want a little pick me up (the scent just wakes you up) and leaves your skin so soft.  I love it.  The texture of this scrub is quite interesting as well – as it feels gel like and quite different from the Coconut Foaming Scrub.  It’s cooling sensation and vibrant scent make it a great Spring and Summer must have.  I find I love to use this product most on my elbows and on my feet.  It’s perfect for flip flop and sandal wearing feet.  Also formulated with safflower oil and plant phospholipids to soften the skin and create a breathable protective layer to lock in moisture.  Massage this product into damp skin with gentle circular motions and rinse well with warm water.

Ingredients: ucrose, carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil, isopropyl palmitate, prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, silica, dimethicone, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel oil, citrus junos (yuzu) peel oil, citrus limon (lemon) peel oil, citrus reticulata (tangerine) peel extract, cananga odorata flower oil, jasminum officinale (jasmine) extract, litsea cubeba fruit oil, evernia prunastri (oakmoss) extract, phospholipids, glycerin, water (aqua), ascorbyl palmitate, retinyl palmitate, tocopheryl acetate, phenoxyethanol.

The Muscle Ease Gel with Botanical Pain Relievers ($18.00 / Net. wt. 4oz) has been a lifesaver in the last month.  With my husband’s aches and pains and my bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome, we have both been in a bit of hurt.  This product has helped to not only ease our pain but help offer us some much needed relief so we can tackle our day but also sleep at night.  This herbal pain relieving gel is formulated with centuries-old plant extracts that are used by the native tribes of Northern Mexico to help relieve minor aches and pains of muscles and joints.  It’s definitely fast acting and you can feel the gel begin to work immediately, once it is applied and massaged into the affected areas.  You can experience unique cooling and heating on the skin.  The first application I did on my husband, he said his skin felt like it was burning and tingling and a bit uncomfortable – but after that first use, he hasn’t had any issue with it.  Some people will definitely react differently with this product as I felt a cooling sensation and some tingling, but only burning on certain areas of my body.  Formulated with ingredients like menthol, camphor and capsaicin to help provide temporary relief of backaches, arthritis, strains, bruises and sprains, this product contains no waxes, oils, artificial colors or fragrance making it fast acting.  It’s paraben-free and you really only need a small amount applied to the affected area no more than 3-4 times a day.  Rub the product in well until the gel is absorbed and make sure to wash your hands well after applying.

Like with any product used to treat pain, this can feel differently for some versus others, so make sure to test a small amount of this product in a small area to see how it works for you.  It definitely helped with pain relief – that’s for sure and it’s something we continue to use in our house.

Ingredients: Active ingredients: camphor 3%, menthol 3%

Inactive ingredients: aloe vera extract, capsaicin, carbomer, decyl polyglucose, deionized water, grapefruit seed extract, green tea extract, orange peel extract, queen of the prairie extract, rose water, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, vegetable glycerin, witch hazel, yucca extract.

The Vanilla & Argan Lip Scrub ($10.00 / Net. wt. 0.8oz)  is AMAZING.   As a blogger who reviews beauty products, I have tried my fair share and more of lip scrubs.  Heck, I have even made many of my own over the years.  I have had my favorites and still continue to use them from time to time, but this is quite possibly one of my favorites to boot.  This certified organic, lip-smoothing exfoliator uses sugar cane crystals to gently buff away flaky skin from dry, chapped lips.  Its emollient-rich base is formulated with some of my favorite ingredients like honey (a natural humectant), argan, coconut and rosehip seed oils as well as vitamin E.  It also includes beeswax to restore moisture and softness and provide a protective layer to help prevent future dehydration.  It tastes and smells divine with a sweet and comforting vanilla scent that combines spearmint oil for a pleasant, light tingling sensation to softly plump lips.  This lip scrub prepares your lips for a great application of lip color and it’s paraben-free.

You simply rub this product softly on the lips and remove with warm water.  I love it.  This lip scrub leaves my lips feeling smooth and soft and brings the juicy color back to my lips instantly.  It plumps my lips softly (without any pain) making them look and feel like they are much younger than they are.  This product is probably one of my favorites I’ve tried from LATHER and I think it will be a lip scrub I’ll continue to purchase for years to come.  I’ve made my own for years and find this one to be quite wonderful!

The Daily Defense Facial Sunscreen with Aloe & Grape Seed ($24.00 / Net. wt. 2 fl.oz.) has a broad spectrum SPF 30 with UVA/UVB protection against sunburn, skin cancer and early skin aging cause by the sun.  It combines the mineral sunscreen Titanium Dioxide with Octinoxate to provide protection for your skin.  It is enriched with natural botanicals to soothe, hydrate and protect your skin from sun exposure.  Free of synthetic fragrance, color and parabens, this product is specifically designed for the face.

Application is easy – simply apply to the face and massage into the skin.  I like to use this product daily over my moisturizer and apply through out the day if I am in direct sunlight or extended periods of time.  This product applies easily and doesn’t leave my face feeling oily (which I love).  It has a light aloe like fragrance, nothing overpowering or funky at all… and the consistency of this product feels really nice on the skin.

I am very impressed with the products I tried from LATHER so far.  I love when a brand and their products has a unique story behind them and a mission that is quite impressive.  With all the products I listed and discussed here today, I can’t help but to recommend all of them.  I think each of them have wonderful properties and with someone like me who has sensitive skin, these products each helped to combat those issues.  Now that we are in Spring, I’m noticing how much the winter weather took a toll on my body and dried my skin out so horribly bad.  These products have been essential in bringing back the moisture and treating my skin to a spa.  If you haven’t tried anything from LATHER yet, I highly suggest you take a look and see what products you think resonate with you.  Each product offers so many benefits and most of them have such an addicting fragrance to them as well.

For my Hawaii readers:  Modern Honolulu Spa offers 20% off their treatment if you show your ID and are Kama’aina (Local) so feel free to check out LATHER at your local spa.  For those that are interested in trying out something from LATHER – check out their website filled with all kinds of goodies from their Modern Apothecary:  http://www.lather.com/

What about you?  Have you tried anything from LATHER before?  If so – what have you tried and what are your thoughts?  If not, what do you have your eyes on to check out?

Valentia has stolen my skin care loving heart with their various products that I have tried over the last couple of years.  Each time I try something new, I think to myself – this can’t possibly be any better than what I already tried, and they amaze me yet again.  Today I share with you my thoughts on a product that is surely meant for my sensitive skin.  It’s gentle and feels really nice on and I’ve been absolutely loving it lately.  The Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum is a new addition to my skin care regimen and while it is not something I think I would have liked when I first laid my eyes on it – I was very surprised after just one use.

Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum, Valentia skin care, skin care, serum, facial serum, rose serum,

The Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum ($35.00 – 1.18 Fl.oz. / 35mL) looks like any other Valentia Serum in a similar packaged bottle and pump to dispense the product.  It’s formulated to deeply moisturize your skin while providing antioxidant protection and soothe and nourish dry skin.  Since I naturally have dry skin – this product has been wonderful and feels fabulous against my face.

The serum is lightweight and while very hydrating, it doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky or dewy but feeling moisturized.  It’s specifically crafted with rose petals from the fragrant Damask Rose – an essential oil that has been long regarded as being more precious than gold for its natural antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties.  While this is its main ingredient, it is also formulated with other skin loving oils like: Bearberry, Lavender and Primrose to help soothe and brighten your skin.  This product is the perfect serum to help nourish, calm and cool your skin for a more refreshed and youthful look and feel – while leaving your skin feeling soft and hydrated.

Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum, Valentia skin care, skin care, serum, facial serum, rose serum,

After just one use, I noticed my skin retained its moisture through out the day and my skin tone and texture was smooth and skin radiant.  It left me loving this product after using it just one time and I know like other Valentia products, I will continue to purchase it in the future.

Ingredients:

  • Rosa Damascena: One of the most nourishing and skin-friendly natural oils, providing balance, moisture, and a variety of vitamins and minerals to the skin.
  • Niacinamide (Vitamin B): This potent vitamin has been clinically proven to fade away hyper-pigmentation, sun spots, and acne.
  • Rosehip Seed Oil: Naturally rich in Vitamins C and A, these essential fatty acids work quickly to lock in skins moisture.
  • Evening Primrose Oil: Provides light, non-oily moisture to the skin, never clogging or irritating the skin.
  • Bearberry: Reduces melanin production, thereby lightening the skin, revealing a brighter complexion.

Application:  I usually apply 1-2 pumps to my face and neck in the evening after I cleanse and before I moisturize.  I tend to apply it when applying any of my other serums.  1-2 pumps is more than enough to cover my whole face and neck, and it will soak into your skin fairly quickly once you apply and work into your skin.  I haven’t noticed any bunching or weird reactions with this product when used in combination with my other serums or skin care.

I love the creamy, cooling texture of this product but I didn’t expect to really like the scent.  As many know (if you have been a follower of this blog), I have fragrance sensitivities and rose scents usually come into that category with floral scents that I struggle with.  I didn’t have any issues with this and while it may be because I’ve been sick the last few weeks and can’t smell much of anything lately, I didn’t really smell a fragrance from this serum.  That is a major plus for me because that meant “no sneezing” especially in the middle of the night since this is a nightly serum.  Overall, I have really been loving how this feels on the skin, how nicely it soaks into my skin and the fact that it not only hydrates and moisturizes, but I didn’t have any adverse reactions or issues.

Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum, Valentia skin care, skin care, serum, facial serum, rose serum,

In the past where I have reviewed or talked about Valentia products, I have mentioned how gentle they have been for my sensitive skin and this was no exception.  I especially love that it is formulated with Sensitive Skin users in mind and really left my skin feeling nice, smooth and soft.  Used in combination with my other favorite skin care products, I know that this will continue to be one in my skin arsenal and I’ll continue to enjoy it.

What about you – what products have you tried, if any, from Valentia Skin Care?  Do you have sensitive skin like me and are looking for added moisture to hydrate and smooth?  Do you think this is something you would want to check out?

When it comes to skin care, I have tried so many different brands including drugstore, highend, mainstream and indie.  While I enjoy them all, I find that it can be rare that I can use a whole line of products from one brand and not have an issue with at least one of the products.  I thought it would be so with OZ Naturals, seeing as I have been enjoying some of the products I have been using.  I thought to myself, Hmm… I’m not sure the Ocean Mineral Cleanser will work for me and I’m glad I had the chance to try it out.  Today – I share with you my thoughts and review on this product and let you know if the OZ Naturals Ocean Mineral Facial Cleanser was a hit or miss.  Read on for more info.

OZ Naturals, OZ Naturals Ocean Mineral Facial Cleanser, facial cleanser, skin care, facial, cleanser,

The OZ Naturals Ocean Mineral Facial Cleanser (4 fl.oz / 118mL) retails for about $23.00 and can be found via the Oz Naturals website or via their Amazon Store.  I haven’t heard much about this brand prior to being introduced and trying their Eye Gel (which I’m loving and you can read about here) but after looking into the brand I found that they have quite a line up of different products which I’m looking forward to testing out. This Ocean Mineral Facial Cleanser is free from alcohol, parabens and sulfates and is said to be safe for all skin types.  This effective facial cleanser is made in the USA and is said to be one of the most effective anti-aging skin care products on the market, made with the highest quality ingredients.

Some of the key ingredients in this product include:  Rose hip oil, rich ocean minerals and Vitamin E.  It was specifically developed to be gentle on sensitive skin, yet highly potent and effective in dissolving nasty particles that clog your pores as it cleanses your skin and clears your clogged pores naturally and effectively.

OZ Naturals, OZ Naturals Ocean Mineral Facial Cleanser, facial cleanser, skin care, facial, cleanser,

The OZ Naturals Ocean Mineral Facial Cleanser is a clear liquid cleanser that feels really soothing when applied to the skin.  I like the fact that when I’m cleansing my face it feels like it’s adding moisture into my skin while still cleaning it well – if that makes any sense.  What is so neat about this cleanser is you really need just a tad bit… I usually try to squeeze out two pea sizes worth of product and that is more than enough to cover my whole face.  Once I have the cleanser in my hand, I add a little water to it and mix the product in my hand until it foams up.  Once it foams, I apply to my face in a circular motion while cleaning my face of it’s dirt and impurities.  Once I rinse the product off my face, my skin feels clean, but not dry like a cleanser that foams can normally leave my skin feeling.  Even with my sensitive skin and eczema issues, I found that this product worked well and cleaned well.  I didn’t have any breakouts, flare ups or any issues with using this product the last month.  After a month or so of using this product, it seems like my skin is brighter and some what smoother in places that tend to be drier during the winter months.

I think if you are looking for a facial cleanser that will clean your face – leaving it feeling great, but not drying your face out, you will enjoy this.  Since my skin is naturally dry, I like to use cleansers that will not strip my face of moisture and this really did the job in my opinion.  It’s not a thick formulation at all but it foams and bubbles up so quickly when using.  If you have sensitive skin like I do and you’re looking for cleanser that will do the job – I think you may enjoy this one.  I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this particular one and when it comes to cleansers, those are the types of products I don’t tend to stray away from my norm.  I would repurchase this and continue to use it.  I definitely look forward to using this during the summer when my skin needs that super clean greatness.  One note however… once you apply this product to your face, rinse and do not leave it sitting (like you would a wash off mask) as it can dry your skin out.  I noticed one day when I did that – not on purpose, the phone rang and I went to pick it up, that after a couple of minutes – when I washed it off my skin felt dry – not like it normally would feel.

What are your favorite cleansers to use for your skin?  Have you tried anything from OZ Naturals before?  Do you have any other recommendations for me?  Comment below and let me know.
