I am a body butter nut, especially during the winter months when my skin is so dry and I need the added moisture and protection.  I have tried many products over the years and I surely have my list of favorites when it comes to body butters.  But, recently I had the opportunity to try the Savannah Bee Royal Jelly Body Butter in Tupelo Honey and I wanted to share it with all of you.  Let’s face it – I’m a sucker with anything that has honey or the word “honey” in it – for obvious reasons, of course – but I was intrigued by this body butter because it also includes Royal Jelly which is known to be a nutrient-rich and precious ingredient of the  bee hive.  Having loved products with this additive, I knew I had to try it.  I featured this product on my Holiday Gift Guide – Stocking Stuffers and figured it was so good it needed it’s own little feature here.

The Savannah Bee Royal Jelly Body Butter comes in three different formulas – Original, Sensitive Skin and Tupelo Honey.  Each cute little jar (I love the honey pot shape) comes in two sizes – Full Size (6.7 oz/190g – $24.70) and Mini Size (1.65 oz/48g – $12.90).  I got the Tupelo Honey formula in the mini size which is made with fresh tupelo blossom fragrance and soft hints of vanilla and lemon.  The super rich formula combines royal jelly and other hive treasures as well as skin quenching butters and essential oils to leave the skin feeling soft and smooth.

So what’s so great about this “Royal Jelly” that I keep mentioning?  Well, Savannah Bee Company commonly uses four different hive ingredients their their health and beauty product line including – honey, beeswax, propolis and royal jelly.  Honey is a natural cleanser and skin softener, beeswax protects the skin and prevents water loss and propolis is known for its antibiotic and antiseptic qualities.  Royal jelly is a substance secreted from the glands near the head region of work bees.  It is thought of as a combination baby food and queen food.  Honeybee larvae (baby bees) are fed royal jelly for the first few days of their lives.  It’s a heavy dose of mega nutrition to the young bees off on the right foot.  When it comes to the future queen bee – that story gets a bit interesting.  The worker bees begin the process of “growing” a new queen by completely filling a special cell in the comb called a queen cell with royal jelly.   The larvae selected to be the future queen spends her early days literally swimming in royal jelly.  At this point she is genetically identical to all other work bee larvae but it is a fact that her prolonged feeding of royal jelly initiates her genetic transformation into the Queen!  The queen is then fed royal jelly the remainder of her life, which is quite long by worker bee standards.  This awesome jelly transforms her into the queen phenotype (body type) and the miraculous secretion allows this individual to live up to five years compared to the eight month average lifespan of a typical worker bee.  Royal Jelly is mostly water – but it’s very nutritious.  It contains a fair amount of protein, trace minerals and vitamins (particularly high levels of B vitamins) and is the key ingredient in several of the health and beauty products offered at Savannah Bee Company.

I know that lesson was a bit long winded, but I felt it was necessary.  We hear and read that products on the market include this royal jelly but we have no idea why or for what reason and it’s kind of cool to read and learn that the “Queen Bee” has her own little fountain of youth.  They say Royal Jelly is a “Cinderella” substance that turns a worker bee into a Queen and allows her to live 40 times longer than the  average bee as a result.  This amazing substance is surely worth focusing some on and I wanted to share this with you.  The awesome substance is known for its nourishing and deep moisturizing properties as well as its ability to promote skin’s elasticity and smooth appearance.  It’s a great additive in the Savannah Bee Body Butter because it leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft but also hydrated and moisturized – especially during the winter season.

The body butter is rich and thick in texture with a smooth application.  It includes other goodies from the hive like Propolis which helps to add a protective barrier on the skin and Beeswax which is an emollient to help quench dryness and protect skin’s own natural moisture barriers.  Rich and softening Pecan Seed Oil and the natural, delicate scent of it add a great final touch to this wonderful and luxurious product meant for a queen.  Smoothing the product onto the skin feels like a spa experience.  You can feel the oils and ingredients quenching your skin and leaving it smooth.  I love that I can apply this to my hands and feet without the feeling slippery or oily and it really just adds a huge punch of moisture to my skin.

If I had to make one suggestion, it is that the mini pot is a bit of a challenge to get the product out.  I would love to see the opening of the pot a little larger to allow for ease of use, but the body butter is so good – I find a way.  I love the thickness of this body body and as you apply it you literally can feel the moisture in your skin being revived.  It’s pretty darn awesome.

I also had the opportunity to try the Savannah Bee Natural Beeswax and Propolis Lip Balm in Salted Caramel.  Retailing for $6.50 – this awesome lip balm has been a favorite of mine since I got my hands on it and I have been using it religiously.  My lips feel soft and smooth and I love that I haven’t noticed it dry even with my drying liquid lipsticks.  With ingredients like coconut and olive oil, cocoa and hemp seed, this lip balm is never greasy, glides on smoothly and absorbs and protects my lips.  It also includes softening honey, pure propolis and nourishing royal jelly like the body butter. If you love lip balm – you’ll enjoy this one.  I also love the taste on my lips… mmmm caramel.

I am very impressed with Savannah Bee products.  They never test on animals and do not have petroleum-based ingredients.  All of their products are free of parabens and preservatives.  Their beeswax is organic and the products really feel good on the skin.  I can’t wait to try more products from this line.  Recently while in Target I stumbled upon the Savannah Bee display so you can find some of their products there or via their website.

Nourish Your Skin This Winter With Lindi Skin

Fall and Winter seasons take a real toll on my skin and often times dry my skin out so bad that my Eczema flares up.  I have my favorite and go-to skin care products for this time of the year, but lately I have been using some new goodies that I wanted to share with you.  The Lindi Skin brand, created in 2003 is the first complete skincare line designed specifically for the unique needs of people undergoing cancer treatment, so it an ideal choice for people like myself who deal with sensitive skin.  Today I’m going to share with you a few of the products I have had the chance to try and if you are looking for some new skin care goods this Winter, hopefully this will be something for you.

Nourish Your Skin This Winter With Lindi Skin

I had the opportunity to try out a few products from Lini Skin.  Over the last two months, I have been using these products in combination with my normal skincare goods.

Lindi Face Wash – $22.00 (4 fl.oz.) is a gentle face wash and a great alternative to soap that washes without stripping and works to achieve optimal pH balance. This face wash feels great on the skin and smooths on nicely.  I love using it with some of my favorite facial cleansing tools because they work so well together.

Lindi Face Serum in Lavender – $40 (1 fl.oz.) is formulated with the highest concentration of Lindi Skin’s proprietary LSA Complex and replete with botanicals, antioxidants and vitamins.  This serum comes in a pump / spray type packaging that makes dispensing the product easy.  The serum feels great on the skin and soaks in quickly.  It’s my favorite to use at night because the lavender offers a nice calming feeling that allows me to settle down and relax for the evening.

Lindi Eye Hydrator – $30 (0.50 fl.oz.) is designed to soothe dryness in the sensitive area around the eyes.  It’s a nutrient rich gel that also helps to reduce the appearance of puffiness and improve skin tone.  The silky gel absorbs immediately for maximum benefit and comfort and I love that it doesn’t leave any sticky feeling after you apply it.  No rubbing, irritation or funky texture and you can use it day or night.  This gel feels so nice on the skin and the eye area that it has become one of my favorites.

Lindi Lip Balm – $10.00 (0.25 fl.oz.) The winter weather takes a harsh toll on my lips and this lip balm has been a savior.  It is rich in Vitamin E and natural extracts that help to soothe and provide a protective layer to your parched lips.  It has a non-greasy formula and works double-duty to help keep your nails and cuticles healthy.  After I apply on my lips – I simply rub some on my cuticles and I’m good to go.  It’s moisturizing and really keeps my lips soft and smooth.

Lindi Skin products are clinically tested and proudly made in the United States in an FDA compliant facility.  They are Dermatologist and allergy tested and Lindi Skin products are never tested on animals.  I love that they are non-irritating which makes this a skin care line that works well with my sensitive skin and with daily use, I didn’t have any issues with my Eczema flaring up or skin sensitivities.

Skin Care Products I’ve Been Loving Lately – StriVectin Instant Revitalizing Mask & Advanced Retinol Pore Refiner

It’s no secret that I am really big on taking care of my skin – especially since mine is so sensitive and finicky, I need to baby it a lot.  I have tried many products over the years… MANY, but always find that while some work and work well, others cause my Eczema to freak out and then I’m stuck starting all over again.  When I first received these two products from StriVectin, I was a bit apprehensive and worried that my skin would freak out.  But after a few months of using these, I’m finally able to share my thoughts on the products themselves and I’m also happy to say that I’m really loving them.  Today I share with you the StriVectin Instant Revitalizing Mask and Advanced Retinol Pore Refiner.

I have never used anything from StriVectin before, I have heard of the brand many many times.  When these two little goodies were sent to me in the mail, I was very apprehensive to try them because similar products in other brands caused my skin to completely freak out.  I took my time testing out each of these – I have been using them now for several months and I’m finally able to share my final thoughts on each one.

First let’s talk about the StriVectin Instant Revitalizing Mask ($62.00 90 mL/3.0 fl.oz.) – This mask is said to instantly brighten and revitalize your skin giving you a more youthful glow.  It’s a white mask (reminds me of white toothpaste) and squeezes out of the tube.  It’s has a thicker consistency than what I would expect from a mask that comes out of the tube but smooths onto the skin really nicely.  You only need a light layer of this product and you will definitely see results after the first use.  I didn’t have any issues with my skin drying or my Eczema flaring up.  My skin felt pretty hydrated and moisturized and I noticed that my cheeks even looked much more supple than usual.  Immediately after removing the mask, my skin looked bright and felt soft and smoother.  My complexion looked fresh and my dullness that I was seeing on my skin was diminished.  I literally looked younger and I loved it.  This 15 minute facial mask is an effective dual-action complex of skin brighteners and Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) to help unify uneven skin tone and promote a smoother, younger looking complexion.

I enjoy this product a lot but like with any masks, I only use it a few times a month… roughly once every 10 days or so.  My skin is so sensitive, I unfortunately can’t use a mask as often as I would like… so no ore than once a week.  I love that this applies easily and furthermore, it stays on for about 15 minutes, so I apply prior to jumping into the shower and remove while in the bath.

Next up on my list is the StriVectin Advanced Retinol Pore Refiner ($99.00 50 mL / 1.7 fl. oz.).   I honestly didn’t think I would be able to use this product.  Since my skin is so sensitive Retinol products tend to cause my Eczema to freak out and my skin to dry up so badly that I need a special cream prescribed by my Dermatologist to correct the issue.  This particular Retinol product didn’t have that affect on me.  After the first few uses, I did notice some dryness which I would expect from using Retinol – but that cleared up as it should and it left my skin looking great after I got into a routine in using it.  The product itself comes in a really cools squeeze tube with a pump – hello, totally genius.  It’s a lightweight white cream that is a pore minimizing lotion with Retinol included to improve cell turnover and delivers both instant and long-term visible pore reduction.  Because of the Patented NIA-114 technology (see more about that here), this product nourishes the moisture barrier to provide visible age fighting efficacy and limits the sensitivity common to Retinol.  Age fighting results, purifying and refining of the skin tone and texture and a matte looking skin that is fresh and youthful is what you are left with.  I seriously love this product.

I use the StriVectin Advanced Retinol Pore Refiner daily.  I don’t have really large pores, but they are noticeable.  With this product I have noticed my pores look smaller, but most importantly, I love the way my skin feels… hydrated, smooth texture and even during the warmer months, I noticed my skin wasn’t as shiny as it normally would be.  I put this product on last in my beauty regimen… after cleansing, serum and moisturizer.  Since I don’t use foundation, it is the last thing to go on my face (unless I’m using blush, etc.) and leaves my skin looking so nice.

These products are a bit pricey but I have said this before and I’ll say it again… I’m willing to pay the money on something that is worth it and these products are awesome.  The Advanced Retinol Pore Refiner is something I know I’ll continue to use over the years because it is very hard to find a product that provides great results and doesn’t affect my skin the way others do.  The Pore Refiner absorbs quickly into my skin which is a huge bonus and with 1% Retinol, it is forgiving with my sensitive skin.  Overall – I love both products but the Pore Refiner is my jam!
