I always enjoy learning about new products coming out in the beauty industry or testing out brands I have never heard of before, so I was quite ecstatic to have the opportunity to test drive some goodies from Mia Mariu Cosmetics.  A collection of mineral cosmetics in wearable, glamorous shades – Mia Mariu offers a wide range of cosmetic products for the woman who wants a look of hot damn gorgeous.

Mia Mariu Cosmetics

Mia Mariu’s mineral colors contain Vitamin A, C and E which provide a natural protection from the environment.  The products are Oil, Talk, Paraben and Fragrance free, which is awesome for all skin types – but most importantly, those with sensitive skin like I have.
Mia Mariu CosmeticsLet’s start off with packaging.  I am all about a signature color and I love that Mia Mariu has black/red packaging on all of their products.  The colors look chic together and I love the uniformity.  Overall, I like how easy the packaging was to use (especially the eye shadow duo), and I love that it has that sleek look.

Mia Mariu CosmeticsThe Mineral Shadow Duos are made with pure minerals and luxurious color pigments.  Each shadow felt very creamy when I swatched it and applied so nicely on my eye lids.  I absolutely loved how nice it felt when blended onto the lid.  Over primer I received nice wear, about 7 hours before I started to notice fading and I love that with a good primer, I didn’t experience any creasing.  This eye shadow duo in Valle Dorado is a great combo for those that love every day wearable and neutral shades.  Retailing for $19.00 – you receive a total of 2.8 grams worth of product and soft silky shadows for a show stopping look.  Since I have darker skin, I did notice that I needed to build on the colors – but overall, I love that this is easy to travel with and the shades are definitely those I can use daily if I wanted to.

Mia Mariu CosmeticsI am not a huge fan of loose mineral shadows, powders or bronzers because they can be a mess – but I do use them from time to time.  I was quite impressed with the Mineral Bronzer from Mia Mariu.  It had a gorgeous velvet texture that felt wonderful on the skin.  While it felt luxurious on my skin, the shade was a tad too light for me to use as a bronzer to give my cheek bones or face any sort of contour, but it didn’t matter because this product worked as a wonderful cheek highlight offering my skin a gorgeous and radiant glow.  This product is silky and feels great on the skin, I have tried to apply it all over but due to the shimmer, I think it was too much for an all over application on me.  Used on the eye as a sweep of color on the lid or graced across your cheeks for a sweet glow, this product is definitely becoming a favorite.  Retailing for $17.00 which includes 2.4 grams of loose product, you get a pretty good amount for your money’s worth as well as something that can be used universally.  I have been using this product the most out of all the others I received and I know I’ll get great use out of it.
Mia Mariu Cosmetics

The Hydrating Stick Gloss combines color and a hydrating gloss in a stick form.  This product reminds me of a lip butter, very creamy and buttery and it felt like my lips were hydrated and moisturized while using this product.  The color is sheer at first swipe but can easily be built up.  Seduccion is a brick red with a hint of berry and has light shimmer reflects through out.  Retailing for $15.00 this tube includes 4.0 grams of product.  This gloss is part balm in my opinion as my lips feel really soft and moisturized most of the day while wearing it.  Like any gloss, this does not have a long wear time but still offers a great punch of color with a gloss sheen.

Mia Mariu Cosmetics

Mia Mariu’s Volumizing mascara retails for $13.00 and claims to extend and separate the thinnest, shortest and hard to reach lashes by lengthening each lash while delivering the right amount of mascara without clumping.  The formula contains rich dark pigments to enhance the lash color for maximum drama – is clump free, fiber free and suitable for contact lens wearers.  This mascara is enriched with Vitamin B5.  Many know I have the smallest most tiniest lashes EVER.  I love the wand on this mascara but unfortunately – the formula was just too wet for my itty bitty lashes.  I didn’t notice any length or volume using this mascara and after using the mascara with 2 to 3 coats, I still did not see my lashes very much.  However – I do like that my lashes felt soft even with the product coated on them and even after applying 3 coats, I did not experience any clumping.  While this did not give my lashes the exaggeration I would have liked to see – I like that it did not make my eyes irritated.

Mia Mariu Cosmetics

The Intense Black Eye Liner Pencil retails for $11.00.  This is a sharpen type pencil that offers a stiff type pencil tip.  The claim on this product is that it offers a smoothly textured pencil for precise definition and easy, smooth application.  The pencil should apply evenly without pulling on the delicate eye area and should produce a clean precise line without smudging.  I am used to very gel like / soft textured pencils so this pencil took a little bit of finesse for me.  While it did have a bold pigment of black to it and applied fairly easily, it still took me several swipes to build the color I would like and I’m used to a softer tip pencil which this is not.  Application was okay – but not ideal or what I had been used to.  This liner does smudge, but I think it is perfect when creating a soft smoky effect.  While it did smudge, the liner stayed on my eyes for a full day without becoming a full blown mess.

Mia Mariu Cosmetics

In the photos above you can see a before and after of me using the Mia Mariu cosmetics I have tried and tested.  On my eyes I am using the Valley Dorado Mineral Eye Shadow Duo – the lighter shade on my lid and the darker shade blended into my crease and near my highlight. I also blended the lighter shade as my highlight on my brow bone.  I applied the Intense Eye liner pencil on my eye lid as a simple liner and smudged it on my lower lash line.  On my cheeks I am using the Mineral Bronzer in Copa Cabana on the high parts of my cheeks and blended as a highlight.  On my lips I’m using the Hydrating Gloss Stick in Seduccion.

Overall I’m quite impressed with this cosmetic line.  I love that they have pressed mineral shadows because I really dislike dealing with loose shadows and this made it easy to apply and even easier to use on the go.  I would love to see Mia Mariu come out with a matte or satin lipstick and darker tones for their bronzer.  Have you heard of Mia Mariu Cosmetics before?  Have you tried anything from this brand?  What are your thoughts on Mineral Cosmetics?

It seems like forever since I posted about my Ipsy Glam Bags on my blog or even did a video about it – so I decided I would talk about this month’s bag.  I have been an Ipsy subscriber now since December 2011 but it seems like this year I experienced many challenges with shipping and I’m sad to say that I will ride it out till the end of the year and probably cancel.  Here are the goodies in my Ipsy Glam Bag October 2014.

Ipsy Glam Bag - October 2014

REFERRAL LINKS

Ipsy is a $10 a month subscription and includes a variety of beauty products from skincare, makeup, nail polish and nail care and hair goodies.  This months theme: Beauty Candy included a variety of brands, some of which we have received in our bags before and some new.

This month I received the following products:

Ecru New York Acacia Protein BB Cream Beauty Balm for Hair – I received another beauty balm (bb cream) for hair in last months bag and never used it.  Honestly, I don’t know that I would be using this product so I’ll be putting it on the side.  Full size is 1.0 fl oz and retails for $12.00.  The full size product was sent in this month’s bag.

Figs & Rouge Shea Butter Limited Edition Hand cream – we all know I’m a lotion addict and I am looking forward to tossing this in my bag and adding it to my lotion stash.  I received a sample size (maybe deluxe sample) tube of the product.  Full size product is 20ml / 0.67 fl oz and retails for $6.56.  Full size product was sent in this month’s bag.

Jesse’s Girl Mineralized Baked Powder Shadow – this shadow color is really nice and I guess you can never have enough eye shadow.  The full sized product was included in this month’s bag and retails for $3.99

Starlook’s Lip Gloss – this nude toned gloss is really nice and not sticky which I enjoy.  This would be great for travel because it is really tiny.  A Sample sized was received in this month’s box of Guilty Pleasure.  This gloss retails for $12.00 full sized – I’m unsure of the amount included in full size or sample.

Skyn Iceland Mini Glazier Cleansing Cloths – I haven’t used these yet but I’m always a bit leery when it comes to makeup remover wipes or cleansing cloths because of my sensitive skin.  I’ll be sure to do a mini review if I test them out.  These clothes retail for $15.00 for a full sized packet that includes 30 wipes.  The sample included in this month’s bag includes 10 cloths and would retail for approximately $5.00.

Total retail value for the products received in the October 2014 Ipsy bag = $30.00.  This is an estimated value as there is one or two items that I needed to guess the actual amount due to the sample size.  Overall you are getting your money’s worth from the bag, but this bag’s retail value for products included is probably one of the cheapest I have had in the last year.

Ipsy Glam Bag - October 2014

Overall at $10 a month it’s still a pretty good deal considering the number of products you receive.  I haven’t been at all excited for my bags lately because they really haven’t showcased the “wow” factor for me.  While I’m sure I’ll get use out of this month’s contents – especially the makeup bag, I wish there were more items that I could utilize this fall.  I would have loved to see a bronze or brown shadow in the mix.  If you are interested in signing up for Ipsy – it is $10 a month or you can decide to sign up for a full year and get a discount.  You can sign up here: http://www.ipsy.com/r/1o41?sid=ipsypoints&cid=general

Stop on by my Lip Monthly post mentioned in the video and check out what I got in my Lip Monthly subscription – click here.

Have you tried the Ipsy subscription service?  What do you think of it?  I know I didn’t get into a lot of detail with regard to the bag… but as I use the products (if I use them), I’ll be sure to post about them.

As the sun sets and creates a beautiful array of colors that light the soon to be night sky a magical mystical creature is born.  Twilight, an Autumn faerie born from true love’s kiss roams the Woodland Forest to sprinkle her fairy dust of happiness and wishes over those who find themselves wondering her forest.  She can be spotted only as the sun sets illuminating the sky with beautiful hues of purples, blues, oranges, yellows and reds.  Twilight is a good faerie spreading her pixie dust in hopes to find her true love waiting for her at dusk.
Twilight Autumn Woodland Faerie

I love faeries, which we’ve established in my Queen of the Forest Nymph tutorial and I stated that I would be using Faeries as a base for this year’s Halloween Makeup Tutorials.  Just as with the first creation I did last week, I couldn’t figure out what or how I wanted to create Twilight, but knew the colors I had in mind.  This look is easy to create as it is simply about blending shades to create a whimsical sultry look.  I hope you enjoy my Woodland Fairy Makeup tutorial.

I hope you enjoyed that tutorial – don’t forget to subscribe, comment & like.Twilight Autumn Woodland Faerie

As I mentioned before, this makeup tutorial is pretty simple – especially in that I really didn’t have a plan when I created Twilight and decided as I was going along what I wanted to do.  The thought process behind Twilight is that I wanted this to be a part of my imagination, let my creative juices fly at the moment and I also wanted it to be something you could turn to if you were looking for simplicity.

Twilight Autumn Woodland Faerie

I used the products I had on hand to create this and I did what I could with what I had to conceal my natural brows.  If you wanted this to be a bit more elaborate, I suggested scarring wax to flatten your natural brows and then latex over to create an even canvas.  Of course, a good liquid foundation over your concealed brows will work well too.

HALLOWEEN MAKEUP - Twilight the Autumn Woodland Faerie

My wings were purchased from the local Costume shop

My hair color was created using the Redken Color Rebel Hair Makeup in Rebel without a Coral and Purple Riot

Twilight Autumn Woodland Faerie

The key in my opinion to this look is creativity, but also to just use your imagination.  An original Woodland fairy normally has hues of browns and greens but fairies are mystical beings and who says that there can’t be one sporting shades.  I am very happy with how Twilight came out, considering I really didn’t have a thought in mind when I started my tutorial and “winged” it.  Wishing you all a safe, fun and Happy Halloween and stay tuned for next week’s Halloween tutorial.

Fall is upon us and Halloween just a few short weeks away.  While Halloween is not my #1 absolute favorite holiday, (it’s top 5) it is definitely exciting for me because it means dressing up, fun costumes and that the Holiday Season is soon approaching.  With the spooktacular day on its way I look forward to doing Halloween inspired makeup and while I’m not skilled in nail art – I do enjoy decorating my nails with fun colors and glitter for the season.  In combination with a few of my girlies from The Beauty Council, I bring to you my Halloween Nail Art inspired by Pumpkins, Fall leaves and Halloween.

The Beauty Council

I love simplicity and since I am not blessed with artistic drawing skills on a small canvas (i.e. my nails), I decided I would go with what I knew.  I pulled out my favorite colors for the season, a black striping nail polish and a nail art fimo (which I originally spelled “femo” and my spell check kept saying it was wrong. lol) pumpkin that I had in my collection and worked on my nail design.  Overall, I loved the colors and I’m pretty happy with how it all turned out.

Halloween Gradient Nails

I started with a base shade, using China Glaze’s Cruisin as my base color.  Then I took OPI’s I Knead Sour-Dough on a sponge and dabbed the shade onto the ends/tips of my nails.  I take my time in doing this and then once I apply the brown shade, I add the orange (Cruisin) to my sponge and apply together to blend the colors.

My Accent Nail: For the nail art I used Kiss Brush On Nail Art in black to create my tree, Kiss Brush On Nail Art in Neon Green to add a few Green leaves on the tree and then dabbed Sinful Colors Splatter Spell glitters on parts of the branches.

To finish up the look I added Sinful Colors Splatter Spell Glitters over each of the other nails concentrating the glitter towards the tips of my nails and finished with my Ciate Speed Dry Top Coat.  Easy and peezy – pudding and pumpkin pie. lol

Halloween Gradient Nails

I hope you enjoy this simple design and if you recreate it, I would love to see it.  Since I’m kind of nail art challenged, I think this is easy to create, festive and definitely cute.  Don’t forget to check out the other lovelies in the Beauty Council and their creations – links below 😀

It is no secret that I am a huge fan of Milani Cosmetics and those that have been following me a while know that I use at least one product in each of the looks I create.  A few years ago, I purchased my first Milani eye shadow palette – A Runway Eyes kit and I enjoyed the pigmentation as well the price point and because of this I was completely hooked.  Fast forward five years and I am still craving that gold packaging… I consider Milani the high-end brand of drugstore cosmetics.

Milani Constellation Gel Eye Liners

PRESS SAMPLE

Recently Milani Cosmetics released a Limited Edition collection of goodies as a part of their Bedazzled Collection. The Constellation Gel Eye Liners available in three shades: 01-Enchanted Lapis, 02-Enchanted Black Opal and 03-Enchanted Emerald retail for $5.99 on Milanicosmetics.com and can also be found at select Walgreens locations for a limited time.

Milani Constellation Gel Eye Liners

Check out my thoughts on these liners in my video review embedded below or click here to watch directly on YouTube.

Each Constellation Gel Eye Liner comes with 0.14oz/4g of product and an eyeliner brush.  The liners are encased in the signature Milani gold packaging but the pot itself is quite lightweight in comparison to other Milani products.  I’m quite impressed with the packaging for these liners as it has a twist off/on cap that allows you to keep the liner protected and sealed shut when not in use.  The brush that comes with the product is well made in my opinion and I have been enjoying using it not only with these liners but also with others in my collection.  It’s dense enough to pick up product but still soft enough against the skin, no tugging.  While this brush is small, it picks up enough product needed and allows you ease of control & is easy to hold considering it’s size.

Milani Constellation Gel Eye Liners

At first glance, these gel liners are absolutely gorgeous in the pot… so much so that I didn’t want to open them, swatch them or use them.  I knew right away that the top layer of the liners had an over spray and I knew once I dipped into the pot, I would be sacrificing the gorgeous “Galaxy” look they had.  I was quite eager to try these in hopes that they would be as “galactic” (see what I did there? lol) as I thought they looked in the pot.

Milani Constellation Gel Eye Liners

Each liner is very creamy – much more creamy than I am used to and because of this… I think it offered a heavy amount of slip through the application process.  While applying, I had to take my time and apply in layers to not only build up the metallic look of each shade but also to get it to the consistency I want.  It didn’t take much to build it up.  As you used each product, while it still held the “metallic” look with some shimmer, the product lost the “over spray” I had mentioned I thought it had.

Milani Constellation Gel Eye Liners

01 – Enchanted Lapis is a gorgeous blue shade with a metallic sheen.  When applied it shows up a much deeper shade than what you see initially.  I would consider the end result a kind of metallic navy blue.

Milani Constellation Gel Eye Liners

In the pot, before use… Enchanted Lapis looks like it has blue, purple, silver and turquoise shades – but overall, when applied, it applies the metallic navy blue shade you see on my eyelid.

Milani Constellation Gel Eye Liners

02 – Enchanted Black Opal reminds me of a deep chrome/charcoal black shade when applied.  This color has light flecks of shimmer that can be seen in the application.

Milani Constellation Gel Eye Liners

In the pot, before use… Enchanted Black Opal has black, silver, pink and gold over spray in the pot before touching the product.  It’s gorgeous – but even in my swatch or use on my eyelid, only black/silver and some flecks of silver glitter were visible.

Milani Constellation Gel Eye Liners

03 – Enchanted Emerald applies and looks like a teal / emerald green when used or swatched.  There is are some small flecks of shimmer, but for the most part this looks metallic on the lid.

Milani Constellation Gel Eye Liners

In the pot, before use… Enchanted Emerald has a gorgeous array of shades in the overspray.  Dark emerald green, turquoise blue, bright green and purple are all laid upon the top of this liner.

Milani Constellation Gel Eye Liners

As you can see from the swatches, any of the pretty effects you see on the liner before use are no longer visible for the most part once you apply the liner.  While I don’t necessarily consider that a con, it would be awesome if these liners offered that option.  Each of them do lend for a gorgeous metallic hue which I think is still quite stunning.

Milani Constellation Gel Eye Liners

Now that I’ve given you the low down of these Milani Constellation Gel liners… let’s talk about my thoughts overall.  I think these are absolutely gorgeous in the pot and it’s disappointing that they lose that gorgeous overspray once you use the product.  However, I don’t think that is the most disappointing.  As much as I tried to love these, I struggled with the use of them.  After trying different techniques, I think the formulation could use a little adjusting.

First off all – these claim to be Smudge Proof and will “last from dusk to dawn”.  I have tried on many occasions to get these liners to stay in place for me… but they either run, smudged or became a mess and using them longer than an hour left me with panda eyes.  I have tried to set them with a powder shadow, but that did not quite work for me.  After using these for about a month, I found that the best way to apply for the best longevity would be to apply in light layers and build the color up.  However, even with that – it still smudged on my oily eyelids and I am not able to use it as a daily liner or out at night on a hot day or it will get everywhere.  Using these liners as an all over shadow base may work for some, but I also found the liner to be too creamy for me and because of this the shadow I applied on top moved around quite a bit and then creased in a short amount of time. I think these would be awesome for someone who does a lot of theatrical work or someone looking for a statement liner and something that doesn’t offer longevity.  I’m sure some of my cons may have some to do with the fact that I live in a humid/hot climate, but overall I had some difficulty getting the liners to stay in place, in tact and on my eyelids during each use.  Wearing this in my waterline caused my eyes to be irritated and again – I looked like a Panda who hadn’t slept in a week.  While these did not work for me, I’m still very impressed with how they look.  I think the overall creaminess and texture of the product could attest to the slip that the product offers.  At the price point, I think it’s definitely worth checking out to see if it will work for you as I know well that what may not work for me may work for someone else.  But for me, I consider these a miss, though that doesn’t mean I won’t try to make use of them in future looks.  Milani stole my heart years ago and while one product may not work for me, that doesn’t mean I still don’t love them so. Have you tried these liners? If not, is this something you have been interested in?  I would love to know your thoughts on this.
