The Beauty Council

First off… I have a lesson for you before getting into the look.  I am so excited to  introduce you to The Beauty Council, a new group that consists of beauty and lifestyle bloggers that have come together to bring you beauty in all forms, shapes and sizes.  I’m thankful to be a part of this elite bunch of lovelies that will bring to you a new series of looks and posts two times a month featuring an array of inspirations.  You can expect us to cover beauty and makeup trends, inspired looks, collections of favorite products and everything else I haven’t mentioned.  This time around, The Beauty Council takes on the VMA’s (Video Music Awards) from 2014 and looks that are speaking to our souls.  Check out all the lovely ladies and their fabulous recreations (links below).

If you know anything about me… it’s that I’m a huge believer that every woman should have at least one red lipstick in her makeup arsenal.  Red lips offer a huge statement and in my opinion say that you are “Confident, Sexy, Sultry, Daring and Showstopping”…. plus countless other things. lol Rita Ora really wowed me at this years VMA’s with her statement red lips and bold lashes and because of that I used her makeup that she wore on the red carpet as inspiration for my look.

Rita Ora VMA 2014

Rita’s look screams “timeless” to me.  While red lips can be a bit too daring for some, I think that it can be a bold statement for many and done up the right way – it’s glamorous and beautiful.  Besides the bold red lips she wore on camera, she also had rich black winged liner and fabulous spike-like lashes.  Check out my video tutorial for this look embedded below or click here to watch it directly on YouTube.

Rita Ora VMA's 2014 Red Carpet

Products used on my eyes and how to get the look

  • Milani Bella Taupe Bella Eyes Gel Powder Shadow – this shadow was used to fill in my eye brows to make them look darker and more defined.
  • Milani Brow Wax was then applied on my brows to keep my brow hair in place.
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo Leather in Creamy Beige (80) was then applied to the lid from lash line to the crease and blended out well with my finger.  This color is used as my base and primer.
  • Milani Bella Caffe Eye Shadow was then applied to my eye lids with a fluffy brush and blended into the crease so that there are no harsh lines.  This shadow is used as a base lid shade and is similar to my natural skin tone.
  • Milani Brow & Eye Highlight Pencil 01 – I apply Matte Beige to my brow bone to highlight below the arch of my brow.  I blend this creamy pencil well so that there are no harsh lines but making sure I still have a soft highlight.  Then I take the opposite side of the pencil in High Glow in the inner corner of my eyes as a base for the shadow I’ll be laying down shortly.
  • Milani Bella Chiffon Eye Shadow was then applied with my finger to the inner corner of my eyes over High Glow (Milani Brow & Eye Highlight Pencil).
  • Jordana Fabuliner Liquid Felt Tip liner was then applied to the upper lash line.  I created a small but defined wing and a thin liner on my lid.
  • Jordana 12 Hour Made to Last Waterproof Liquid Pencil liner in Black Point was then applied to my inner rim (tight line) to give my lashes a thicker look.  I would normally apply this before my liquid liner, but I forgot.
  • I then curl my lashes and apply two coats of L’Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara.  Once that’s done, I apply a set of lashes from ebay (sorry – I do not have a name for them, but they had the spike like look I was aiming to achieve).

Products used on my face / lips and how to get the look

  • Olay Total Effects 7-in-One CC Cream was applied to my face and neck area to help even out my skin tone, protect my skin with SPF as well as moisturize.  I applied this product with my fingers.
  • I then applied NYX Matte Bronzer in Deep and used this product to contour my face, defining my cheek bones and applying to the temples of my forehead, along my hair line and on my jaw bone.
  • Milani Rose Powder blush in Romantic Rose was applied with a stippling brush to my cheeks and blended up towards the top of my cheek bones
  • Wet n Wild’s Centerstage Fergie Shimmer Palette in Photobomb was applied to the high points of my face and cheeks to give my face a soft golden glow.
  • Milani Color Statement Lip liner in True Red was applied to my lips – lining my lips on my natural lip line and then slightly filling in my lips.  Then pursing my lips together to distribute the color.
  • Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Ruby Valentine was then applied to my lips.
  • To finish the look, I applied Milani Brilliant Shine lip gloss in Red My Lips to add a nice shine.

PRESS SAMPLE / AFFILIATE LINKS

As you can see – the box was filled with a bunch of awesome goodies.

Paddywax Candle

The Paddywax Ocean Tide + Sea Salt Mini Jar Candle ($10) smells like a beautiful sea breeze in a jar.  Fragrance notes of sea salt and the ocean tide, this soy-wax candle brings the beach directly to you.  I love the scent… it is subtle but you still get an awesome fragrance from it.  The packaging is awesome and reminds me of sea glass. When I use up the candle, I will be saving the jar for little knick-knacks or to make my own little candle DIY.  www.paddywax.com

thinkThin brownie crunch high protein bar

The thinkThin Brownie Crunch High Protein Bar didn’t last long.  After snapping the photo, I ate it in a quick jiffy.  This was a special extra in the box this month and I really did enjoy it.  It has a nice chocolate taste and is 20g of Protein, 0g of Sugar and great for on the go or after a work out for a quick snack.

Kendra Scott Elisa necklace

Next in the box was the Kendra Scott Elisa Necklace in Black Cat’s Eye ($50).  I was very excited to get this necklace because those that know me, know I’m big on natural minerals and stones, crystals and such and this will be a great addition to my growing jewelry collection.  It’s set in 14k gold over brass, and I love Gold jewelry and it has a gorgeous black oval stone that is classic and timeless. This is the first and only piece I own from Kendra Scott so I’m very proud to have this in this month’s box.  This piece alone pays for the entire box and then some… so the rest of the goodies included are actually extra goodies. www.kendrascott.com

Goodbyn Purple Meal and Dipper Set

The Goodbyn Purple Meal & Dipper Set ($8.00) Now – this next item is awesome for me and I’m super excited to get it.  First off… it’s purple, yes… praise the purple loving Gods… it’s purple.  Then it is an awesome way to keep track of meal portions and is a great portable way for me to travel with a meal when I’m on the go.  I’m so busy sometimes, I skip out on a meal because I just don’t have the time, but this will really give me the option to pack something to eat ahead of time and be on my way.   www.goodbyn.com

Mason Jar Cookie Company

The Mason Jar Cookie Company Celebrate! Cookie Mix ($12) Being a mommy of boys, goodies are essential and I’m always looking to add new treats to our foodie line-up.  We haven’t had the chance to bake these up yet, but know that I will post all about it once I do.  This treat is festive and ready to go – just add butter and an egg and bake it up for a delectable treat.  www.masonjarprovisions.com

Lollia At Last Perfumed Shower Gel

Lollia At Last Perfumed Shower Gel ($22).  I was pretty excited to see this in my box, because I have heard of the brand but have never tried the products before.  It smells really nice, but sadly – my box was a complete mess when it arrived due to the fact that this shower gel leaked everywhere.  It seems like the cap was not tight on the bottle and even after cleaning it up and tightening the cap, it continues to leak.  This shower gel is infused with shea butter and jojoba oil so I’m excited to give it a whirl with what I have left in the bottle.

Bite Beauty Lush Fruit Lip

Ooh La La – the Bite Beauty Lush Fruit Lip in Popsugar was a surprise to me but I was so excited to get it. ($22.00).  I’m a huge fan of the brand and this will be the first lip gloss that I have been able to try.  To celebrate Popsugar’s Must Have’s second birthday, Bite Beauty created this new shade for the occasion and it’s so sweet.  Strawberry, Coconut and avocado oils leave my lips yummy and pink.  www.sephora.com/bite-beauty

Bite Beauty Popsugar

The shade of Popsugar is a tad sheer, but it’s a gorgeous shade nonetheless and I love how it feels on the lips.  A little sticky but not so much that it’s irritating to use.  Definitely a gorgeous color.

Overall – I’m quite impressed with this month’s Popsugar box.  Overall I received a total of $124+ worth of products and all of them in full size.  Each month the Must Have box is $39.95 and includes full size goodies for you to test out.  I love the goodies Popsugar sends out because this particular box is much more lifestyle based, then beauty – so you get a variety of goodies that you can use on yourself or with your family in mind.  Have you tried the Popsugar Must Have box?  If not – is this something you may be interested in?  If you have, what are your thoughts?  Popsugar is a great way to try out some new things, click here to learn more about it.

DISCLAIMER: POPSUGAR provided me with a complimentary POPSUGAR Must Have box. The opinions I have shared about the box are my own and POPSUGAR did not tell me what to say or how to say it.

If you have been reading or keeping up with my blog or YouTube channel, you will know that I have severe eczema and have been working at keeping my skin from flaring up.  Because my eczema usually flares up when my skin is super dry or when I try a product that is too harsh for me to use, I take precaution when testing out new products.

Recently I had the opportunity to try out a product from Bioque, which is a brand I had never heard of before so I was very interested in seeing what they had to offer.  I tested out the Rejuvenating Day Cream over the last month and here are my thoughts on the product.

Bioque Rejuvenating Day Cream

The Bioque Rejuvenating Day Cream (1.75 oz / 50g) retails for $45.00 on the website.  This day cream comes with pretty unique and eye catching packaging, offering a clean white box with black lettering and a jar that looks like a crystal vase.  I was immediately sold just opening the box to be greeted by such a pretty jar and definitely loved how feminine and expensive it looked.

An advanced moisturizer to defend against signs of premature aging of the skin and to diminish the appearance and early signs of aging.  Dullness and fine dry lines are visibly reduced.  Exceptional daytime hydration to bring out the radiant youthful look to your skin.  Peptide-rich, botanical-bursting moisturizing cream – keeps regeneration running at peak performance for long-term luscious skin.

Directions for use*
Cleanse face with Bioque Facial Cleanser and pat dry. If using Serum XL and/or Serum Rejeuvenate, apply first and wait for product(s) to fully absorb. Apply in the morning to facial area, gently massaging with upward motions; can also be used on back of hands and neck. Wait for absorption before applying any additional creams, foundations, or makeup. Use together with Serum Rejeuvenate and Rejuvenating Night Cream for maximum benefit.

Bioque Rejuvenating Day CreamThe cream reminds me of the texture you would get from a thick lotion or body cream.  I like the consistency of how it feels on the skin and it applies nicely.  I tested this product during the warm summer months here and felt like it didn’t quite soak into my skin as great as I thought it would.  While it felt nice applying it to my face, I felt like it was heavy and almost left a sticky type residue behind through out the day.  I felt like the product didn’t quite soak into my skin.  Immediately after applying it – I did feel like my skin was moisturized, but within an hour, my eczema started to flare up on me and my skin felt really dry and irritated.  I washed it off immediately and decided I would test the product again on a cooler day – thinking the heat may have had some to do with the reaction towards the product.

Info from the site:

Food for thought—Delivers nourishment to cellular mechanisms with a rich and unique formula of peptides and active botanicals.
A firm decision: wrinkles, buh-bye—With regular use and in as little as four weeks, you will have a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Pair with Serum Rejeuvenaté to get even more impressive results.
Radical departure—Decadent moisturizers plump skin’s appearance for a dewy glow.

INGREDIENTS  Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Phospholipids, Glycerin, PEG-8, Butylene Glycol, Ethylene/Acrtlic Acid Copolymer, Trifolium Pratense (Clover) Extract, Dimethicone, Nelumbo Nucifera Seed Extract, Cetearyl Alcohol, Mimosa Pudica Leaf Extract, Polyphosphorylcholine Glycol Acrylate, Sodium PCA, Retinyl Palmitate, Carbomer, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Acrylates/Vinyl Isodecanoate Crosspolymer, Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Hydrogenated Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer, Hydrogenated Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Hydroxylated Lecithin, Lecithin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Ceratonia Siliqua Gum, Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba (Guar) Gum, Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate, BHT, Polyquaternium-51, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Fruit Oil, Trehalose.

Bioque Rejuvenating CreamWhen testing the product out another day and a few days after, while I did not have a severe reaction those other times, I did have minor flare ups each time, so I think my skin is just so sensitive that it did not work for me.  Here’s the thing I say about all skin care products I use however… just because it doesn’t work for me, doesn’t mean it will not work for you.  Each skin type is different and mine happens to be extremely sensitive.

While the cream didn’t work well for me, I was able to pass it on to someone else in my household who is loving and enjoying the benefits of the product as I’m typing this.  A few key notes to my friends who read my blog…  For the amount of product you receive and of course the packaging, the price point on this product is pretty good and while not extremely affordable, I think it’s definitely attainable.  The packaging alone is what I was sold on immediately.  The cream is a nice texture and consistency and if you are fond of creams that have a slight thickness to them but still feel creamy – I think you would enjoy the texture of this one.  There is a mild scent like one you would kind of expect from a facial moisturizer, not strong at all but you can get a hint of it when applying.  A little of the product goes a long way and when applying to the face, it is easy to take a small amount and apply all over instead of using a ton of product.  I do not like the fact that I felt sticky and even kind of hot through the course of the days when I used this, but keep in mind I live in Hawaii – a warm climate and of course, it is summer too.  I also was not fond of the fact that it didn’t really soak into the skin as other moisturizers and serums have done for me in the past – so I didn’t like feeling it on my skin all day.  For those that like the dewy look, this may be a product that will work for you – but I was not too excited about that.

[wp-review]

Overall I think this product could be beneficial for many out there.  The company claims sound like this may work if I didn’t have overly sensitive skin and since passing this product on, my family member enjoys it quite a bit.  If you have sensitive skin – I would definitely test this on a small area first to see if you have any reaction.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

I’ve had the Anastasia Beverly Hills Amrezy Palette now for about a month or more and I have been really enjoying it.  But, I realized that I didn’t have a tutorial up using the product and I always like to do that before posting a review.  Since Hawaii has been dealing with Tropical Storms and hurricanes, it has left me with a bit of cabin fever so I figured the best way to combat the blues is to do a makeup and then head out for some grocery shopping.

Check out my video tutorial embedded before.  Well, actually it is a GRWM (Get Ready with Me) with a little chit chat.  I’ll show you the steps on how I achieved my look and hang out like girlfriends as we talk story a bit. lol  If you want, you can click here to watch directly on YouTube.

GRWM feat. Amrezy Palette

If I were to decide to wear makeup every day – which everyone knows I normally use eye makeup maybe once a week… this would be what I would choose to do – a soft brown smoky eye.  It’s simple to create and since the area between my eye lid and brow is so large… I normally need a soft wash of color to pull a look together.  The Amrezy Palette offers some really nice shades to create just a look for a daytime wearable ensemble or something with a soft pop of color.

Products used (eyes):

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo Leather Collection – Creamy Beige
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Amrezy Palette:  Caramel, Morocco, Legend, Glisten, Topaz, Deep Plum
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Liner – Black Velvet
  • L’Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara blended with Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
  • Brows – Cailyn Gelux Brow in Cocoa

GRWM - Feat. Anastasia Beverly Hills Amrezy Palette

I especially love these types of shades because it is perfect for my eye color.  Browns and bronze shades really make my eye color pop and bring out the natural sparkle.

Signature Honey

This review is long over due… especially since I first received the product for review in April and even purchased a new bottle to keep up with my youth regimen.  I have tried quite a few products from the brand Perlier in the past and recently and while I do enjoy the brand and their products – some products do have some cons for me… whether it be scent, sensitivity, or other.  When I first received this product, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would fall in love with this product – especially since it puts a pretty hefty dent in my pocket book – lol.

PRESS SAMPLE – iFabbo

Perlier Honey Face Royal Elixir Youth Serum

“An innovative, anti-aging serum that incorporates fresh Royal Jelly from African bees known to stimulate collagen production and provide vital nutrients and anti-oxidative properties to the skin.  Additionally, all the water has been replaced by extremely pure rose distillate that has moisturizing toning properties.  A cutting edge product that envelopes nature at its prime.”

Perlier Honey Miel Royal Elixir Face Youth Serum retails for $200 on the Perlier website, but you can find special deals for this product on HSN.  For about $99.00 (1.6 fl oz) – you can find great deals and pairings, like the Royal Elixir Youth Serum and Eye cream.  I think that is a great deal and I purchased my second bottle from HSN.

Perlier Honey Face Royal Elixir Youth Serum

I am in love with this serum and I feel like my face actually craves it when I skip a day.  Like all things from Perlier, the packaging for this serum is gorgeous… everyone knows – Honey loves Gold. lol  It is easy to dispense and easy to use.  I do have to say however, that the little pump on the bottle can fall off easily – so you want to make sure to make note of that when dispensing the product.  A little goes a long way – I use approximately 3 small pumps on my face and decollete, when dispensing the product, I love that each pump is the same size of product released, so you know exactly how much you are going to be getting and using each time.  This is great since the product is costly – you know exactly how much you are going to use and how long it is going to last.

Perlier Honey Face Royal Elixir Youth Serum

The consistency of the product is nice.  It is a little thicker than a lotion but applies smoothly and nicely and soaks into the skin really quickly.  I especially love this because I put on several different serums before my moisturizer and this allows me to have a quick skin care regimen… no waiting for the product to soak in before applying another on top.  The serum has micro shimmer in it and while you may not see it when applied, I can see that it is there when I look closely.  I love this because it reflects a soft glow and highlight on my face, giving my face the illusion that I look a tad bit dewy (not shiny) and have a soft glow.  It’s  a gorgeous look.

Perlier Honey Face Royal Elixir Youth Serum

This product is by far one of the best serums I have used in a long time.  Those that know me know I’m a serum junkie and since I’m about to turn 35 in a few short months, anything I can do to keep my skin and face looking youthful – I’m gonna try it.  I didn’t have any reactions or sensitivities to the products which is a plus since my skin is so sensitive and most product cause me major issues.  My skin felt hydrated, soft and even some of my worrysome parts like my fine lines seemed like they diminished.  My skin looks youthful, feels great and I love that it even looks brighter.  I wouldn’t have convinced the hubby to buy me another bottle if I didn’t like it and it will surely be a product I will continue to use because my skin loves it so.
