Fall is my favorite time of year. Cooler weather means that we can dress warmer here in Hawaii and embrace the colder months. The thing about Hawaii though is that while it cools down, it can still be warm and humid. I wanted to provide you with a kind of universal Fall lookbook and style diary that offered you some warm weather cozy while still having something for a hot Hawaii day. Today I’m doing this post and video in collaboration with a fellow beauty and lifestyle blogger from Hawaii – Kathryn (Kath) from The Fabzilla. Make sure you head on over and show this gorgeous beauty some mad love too.

I hope you enjoyed this little style diary. Remember – as I always say, style really is personal preference. For me, I love to be comfortable and if the season allows – I love cozy. You can catch me in flip flops most time of the year unless it’s cold and then a pair of boots will always suffice. Since I injured my ankle badly – I’m unable to use a lot of my traditional footwear that I would pair with my outfits like flats or ballet slippers because my ankle is swollen and they won’t fit over my brace. But, nonetheless, I dress in what makes me comfortable. To me, just like makeup – style is a form of self expression.
I hope you are all enjoying your cooler weather. Don’t forget to head on over to check out Kath’s sweet looks – you’ll love her, classy style and a beauty.

I can’t count how many times I have been told that Plus sized gals don’t belong in shorts. It’s the summer ya’all… and it’s way too hot so I’ll wear it if I have it. The fact is, I live in shorts if I can find a pair that suits the rest of my outfit and as many know who follow this blog – I’m a casual and laid back soul who loves to dress according to what makes me feel comfortable, not what others think I
should wear. Before I became “plus sized” I actually wore a lot of shorts or lived most of my teenage life in a bikini, because I like to be cool and this is Hawaii, where most people are lightly clothed, lol. So, while my thighs are thick, I like them to be free and cool, so summer means either shorts or dresses. Today, I remind you all that plus size girls can wear shorts too… with a quick summer plus size casual outfit.
Earlier in the month I got a really cute ribbon crusher hat in white from Scala Pronto and thought that my casual, but functional look for the day would be the perfect marriage. Since the boys and I were out and about playing tourist on our island, I thought – why not strut my stuff in a fun hat with a comfy outfit to pair with it.
The #LC511 Hat is a wide brim hat that is lightweight. It includes a sewn-ribbon design and also provides SPF 50 protection which makes it perfect to pair with your summer outfits or year round. It has a pretty tie at the back with an interior swear band for all-day comfort while wearing and includes colors in white, black, turquoise, poppy and fuchsia. This is the ideal accessory for the pool and beach as well as a casual (like I’m wearing) or dress up style.
Tank: Carpe Diem Danskin Now Actives
Shorts: Torrid Denim
Hat: Scala Pronto available at Zappos
Flip Flops: Lisa Frank from Shoeminded.com
Watch: Invicta Angel
Sunglasses: Maui Jim Atoll
Now, I know what you’re thinking… “But, Honey – isn’t that a workout or active wear shirt?” Well, Yes and that is the whole reason I wore it today, hence the word “active wear”. Don’t you know that running after three kids is major cardio? Hahaha! I needed something I could move in because keeping up with the boys while they are on Summer break means I have to be ready in an instant and constantly on my toes… but, don’t worry about me, I digress! It’s cool and comfy but loose enough to allow me to really be active and have some fun with my littles. And, I happen to like the saying on it, who doesn’t like a cute graphic tank anyway?
Growing up in Hawaii, being a surfer girl and tomboy for most of my life has really allowed me to embrace the casual island living. I’m not gonna lie, you will catch me in a tank and shorts or a dress most of the year if I’m not rocking out a pair of jeans. I love it and I love that I can be comfortable and get down and dirty with my sons if the time calls for me to do so. While I’m not a size 7 like I used to be, I still use shorts and I think plus size gals like myself shouldn’t be ashamed to use shorts too. It’s comfortable and don’t we deserve to be comfy, especially during the summer?
So what about you? Do you find yourself rocking out a pair of shorts, graphic tank, flip flops and a cute hat this summer? Comment below and let me know what you’re wearing while out and about and playing tourist this summer?

Anyone who knows me, knows that I have a HUGE watch addiction… so much so that I have more watches than I could ever use in a lifetime and I can’t live without a watch on so I even sleep with my watch. I have my favorite brands, my favorite styles and since I’m someone who spends a lot of time in the ocean, I have my Diver’s watches – but I have absolutely fallen in love with a style that is not only timeless, it’s unique. JORD watches are gorgeous wood watches created in different finishes and designs for every lifestyle. Today I am sharing with you the JORD Sully in Black & Maple. This watch has been a favorite of mine for days I want to dress up or those that I chose to be chill and lax.
JORD was derived from the desire for a timepiece that modeled their modern lifestyle. Jord wanted to provide something that was sustainable, efficient, simple and also influenced by experiential living. They wanted their watches to be able to tell more than time by creating a style that was guided by a deep appreciation for natural elements and modern design. Wood is not just a component to each watch, but is the main feature. Each watch is created with an intricacy and multiplicity of woods in the design to insure that each one is as distinctive as the owner. Their methods were to ensure that each watch was not just worn, they were used.

It’s no secret that when it comes to fashion, anything I wear or use must not only be functional but also comfortable. Sometimes I feel like my laid back lifestyle has me too lax and often it can be a bit basic, but I love taking basics and turning them into something fun and fashionable. I’m born and raised in Hawaii so most of my life you could find me in a bikini or bathing suit with board shorts and a surf board, but now that I’ve changed things up a bit, I try to add a little more flair to what has become comfortable. While what I wear may be simple, consisting of mostly basics to allow for me to change up from time to time – I love to add handbags that will give me a sense of style and freedom at the same time. Accessories can make or break a look easily so here is what I do to take a basic outfit and jazz it up a bit. Here’s my plus size outfit featuring Miche Bag to compliment the look.
Check out my quick outfit video below or click here to watch directly on YouTube.
- Black Empire Waist Jersey Strapless Dress – Old Navy
- Denim Vest with Cut sleeves – Forever21 Plus
Since Flip flops are pretty much the go to for most looks here in Hawaii, I decided that would be a great choice not only for comfort but also for style. I decided to go with a platform/wedge style flip flop to add a dressier flare to the look
- Black Flip Flops – Guess Sabell Platform Flip flops
No outfit is complete without some accessories and for me I wanted it to be simple, basic but still add a little flare. If you have been following this blog or my YouTube channel a while, then you know I’m pretty simple and usually will have the same type of necklace or watch for my daily style. Today I switched up my watch and included something that would be fun and add a little bit of swagger to my look.
- Maple & Black Wooden Watch – JORD Watches, Sully Collection
- Necklace – Gift from Husband
- Earrings – Rose Floral Drop Earrings in Gold from Muwae
Last but not least – it’s all about the handbags. It’s no secret that I’m a huge handbag fanatic… my husband can attest to that (teehee), and I’m always looking for the perfect bag to help accommodate all of my personal and mommy needs as well as be functional and stylish. About 5 years ago I was introduced to Michebags and immediately fell in love with not only the quality – but the styles and the price. Let’s just say that I love these bags so much that I own two different sizes and over 12 shells… ssshhh… don’t tell the pocket book. lol
Miche bag’s concept is easy… You purchase a base bag (in my case, this is the Prima base bag) and then you purchase a shell to go with it. The idea was developed by a women who wanted to be able to change out her bag easily without having to pull all the contents of her bag out. You simply pull your base bag out of your shell and put it in a new one and you are good to go.
- Miche Prima Shell in Carmen – a brown caramel shade bag with gold accents
- Miche Prima Shell in Maria – a gorgeous cream and print bag with gold accents
Each bag is so easy to get in and out of to switch out you can easily go from day to night and it takes just seconds. I am wearing my Miche bags pictured with the regular black handles and gold chain links to add to the gold accent. These bags are not only functional, they are affordable.
Miche Prima Base bag: $29.99
Miche Prima Shell: Range between $40 and $100
Miche Accessories: Range between $9 and $20
If this bag is too large for you – do not worry, this is the largest size Miche carries but there are a variety of sizes available from their Petite, Classic and Demi. Also, Miche offers different colors in their handles as well as their chains and Carabiners so you have endless options to switch up your style and preference. Each strap, handle, carabiner and hardware is interchangeable with any of the shells and the shells are seasonal so you can expect to see new styles rolled out several times a year. Fashionable and on-trend, Miche is definitely a great selection for those who love handbags and want to keep their look fresh.
Check out Miche and their styles by heading over the their website: www.miche.com
Now – just because I have a really relaxed style, doesn’t mean you can’t jazz up a similar look with say a pair of strappy heels or wedges or even a larger necklace for a statement piece. What I love about style is that it is just like makeup and it’s all about the individual and their preferences.
Also – be sure to check out the Miche Hope Collection – inspired by those affected by Cancer, a portion of the proceeds from sales of the collection go directly to cancer research and other charities.
So – what are your favorite types of things to wear during the Spring time? And, have you heard of Miche Bag? If you love handbags like me, definitely head on over to the site and check out what they have to offer. I’ve been a fan of their products for a few years and with a pretty big collection, it definitely states how much I love and enjoy the brand and their products.
I hope you enjoyed this post. It seems like a whiles since I have posted outfits but I’m slowly getting back in the groove again. Don’t forget to stop by and check out my video (click here to watch) – I hope you like it.
xo and Happy Spring!
Each and every Season holds a special place in my heart, but Spring is that time of year when I tend to do clothes shopping the most and I’m always looking forward to rocking out cool and comfortable threads. While my style remains fairly the same each year, I like to add a few things to change it up a bit. For me… Spring includes a few staples in my wardrobe – Maxi Dresses & Skirts, empire waist knee length dresses (or shorter), denim bermudas, tanks and a few key sandals and accessories to complete a look.
I’ve included a few of my favorite styles that you may see pretty often in my wardrobe. Who owns over 10 maxi dresses and 8 pairs of denim bermudas? This lady here! Living in Hawaii means that Spring and Summer months can bring extreme heat so I like to be comfortable and dress that way specifically. While many think that style is about the clothes you wear… I believe that Style is all about personality and what makes you feel comfortable and confident. Being a surfer girl most my life, my Spring and Summer months growing up meant that I was found in a pair of Surf/board shorts and a bikini or rash guard – now that I’m grown up (lol), I like to add my own little flair and spin on it all. Check out some of the selections I have here so you can get an idea of what I rock during the Spring months.
Like I mentioned above… at the end of the day – Rock out what you feel comfortable in. Spring (and Summer) is all about soaking up the sunlight (don’t forget that SPF) and enjoying the flowers and the breeze. What ever you decide, make sure it makes you feel confident and awesome!
If you are looking for a few makeup looks – stay tuned, I’ll be sure to be posting those in the next coming weeks!
Happy Spring Love Bugs!
