I know that the “butter” lippy phase has been a pretty popular one lately and from Revlon Lip butters to now NYX’s new line of lippies, they can be found everywhere.  A few months ago I picked up the NYX Butter Lip Balm in Panna Cotta and decided I would give it a try.  I wasn’t very impressed with the other colors I seen online and since getting new NYX products means ordering online, I decided I would only get one.  I was pretty impressed with the NYX Lip Balms I tried last year (review can be found here) and had hoped these would be similar but with a better texture but was surprised with the similarities.

SELF PURCHASED

NYX Butter Lip balm

The NYX Butter Lip Balms retail on NYX’s website for $4.00 (not a bad price in my opinion) and there are eight colors available to choose from.  Each color offers a sheer to buildable wash of color – though because of its buttery texture, I noticed that the balm was not as buildable in pigmentation as I had expected.  In comparison to the regular tinted balms they had last year, these seem to be much more sheer in pigment.

INGREDIENTS / INGRÉDIENTS: Mineral Oil / Paraffinum Liquidum/ Huile Minérale, Ceresin, Polybutene, Octyldodecanol, Synthetic Wax,Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Silica, Petrolatum, PentaerythritylTetraisostearate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower ) Seed Oil, Stearoxymethicone / Dimethicone Copolymer, EuphorbiaCerifera (Candelilla) Wax / Candelilla Cera / Cire de Candelilla, Beeswax /Cera Alba / Cire d’abeille, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Bisabolol, Fragrance/ Parfum, Citral, Linalool, Limonene. MAY CONTAIN / PEUT CONTENIR (+/-): Mica, TitaniumDioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499), Red 6 (CI 15850), Red7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15985), Yellow 5Lake (CI 19140).

The butter balm feels nice on the lips and applied very easily.  If I had to compare, they kind of remind me of very sheer Revlon Lip Butters… the feeling felt the same on my lips but lacked the color payoff that Revlon Lip Butters provided.  While my lips felt very moisturized, I did feel the need to reapply the butter lip balm several times through out the day, whereas other Lip balms, I need only apply in the morning or at night.  My lips didn’t feel dry – but felt like it was needed to have something added to it through out the day  (if that makes any sense).

Overall – I think the price point is pretty okay for the amount of product you are getting and I love the wash of color you get from using this.  While it did offer my lips a fair amount of moisture, I felt the constant need to reapply it as needed.  I keep my balm in my purse and enjoy that while it gets left in my car sometimes, it hasn’t melted on me, like some butter lipsticks or similar textured products can do.  I like the Balm and may purchase another in the future if I feel the need, but it’s not something I would run out to get just because and definitely not a product I will rush out to buy just to collect them all (makeup addict).  If you are the type of person that wants something moisturizing on the lips, affordable and offers a nice tint of color – this may be something you like.

Aaliyah Rock the Boat Makeup

I am a huge fan of Aaliyah… I have been since she first came out back in the early 90s.  I rocked out my baggy pants, overalls and Timbalands as well as my dark burgundy lips (Revlon’s Black Cherry).  Back then I was a mere 125 lbs and could pull it off – now, well… let’s just say I won’t be exposing my tummy any time soon. lol  Since today is Friday and I have a love for older music, movies and more – I’m taking inspiration from some of my favorite Artists and Actresses and will be recreating some of their looks they have done in the past in a Series on my Blog and YouTube Channel I have named… “Flash Back Friday”.  While I won’t be doing this every Friday – I hope to have one look up at least once a month.  I hope you enjoy.  Check out my recreation and inspired look of the makeup from Aaliyah in Rock the Boat.

Aaliyah Rock the Boat

Aaliyah “baby girl” Haughton became an Angel in 2001 along with 8 others after a plane crash that no one expected.  I chose to recreate this look because not only is she one of my Favorite Artists, but it shows us that life is never guaranteed and tomorrow is never promised.  There are two looks that she sports in the Rock the Boat music video which was the last video she filmed prior to her untimely death and she was leaving the location while filming.  In the video she rocks out a gold look (the one on the beach) as well as a blue look.  I chose the gold.  Check out my tutorial below or watch it directly on YouTube and all the products used are listed below as well.  Thank you for watching!

Thank you so much for watching!  If you enjoyed this tutorial, please don’t forget to Subscribe, Comment and Rate.

It’s no secret that I have seriously sensitive skin.  For years I had absolutely no trouble using whatever cleanser worked, or trying out new skincare products but over the last 2 years, it hasn’t been as easy.  After being diagnosed with severe eczema by my dermatologist two years ago, I discontinued a lot of beauty products that I used daily like foundation and concealer and I have to be really careful with products that can cause a flare up.  Because of this, I like to test scrub products or those that exfoliate my skin on a small area on my face before testing completely to see if I have a reaction.  While I love trying new skin care products, this is my task prior to testing them out completely.

PRESS SAMPLE

Exscrub Me? Beautisol Citrus Face ExfoliantRecently I had the opportunity to try out a cool scrub from Exscrub Me?  Beautisol Citrus Face Exfoliant.  This product is pretty cool in that it is affordable – only costing you $17 for a 2 fl oz tube.  I am a huge lover of scrubs that are effective, yet gentle on my super sensitive skin, so I was very excited to try this since it is made for all skin types.  This product is made to remove dead skin so you can rock out fresh gorgeous skin!

When you first squeeze the product out of the tube, it looks really cool – with a white scrub including little pinkish/red micro beads.  I enjoyed staring at the product because it was just super eye appealing to me.  Application of the product was easy and it took very little effort to apply a small amount of the scrub to my finger tips and work in an area I wanted to test to see if I would have a reaction to the scrub.  Unfortunately, even if I didn’t have a reaction after the first use, the scrub itself was a tad bit too harsh for my skin and a little of the product was too much for my skin to handle.  I expected some redness and maybe a little sensitivity as with any scrub, but the beads seemed a bit too abrasive on my skin and it felt uncomfortable while I was massaging them in my test area.  The area around my nose is my usual test spot since it tends to be able to take most products and I had a difficult time using it.  I tested it on my chin which is another area and had a mild flare up through the course of the night even after moisturizer.  Even if I didn’t have the best reaction to using the product, I loved that the areas I tested it on felt clean and invigorated.

Exscrub Me? Beautisol

Now, I have super sensitive skin and many products can have some funky reactions to my face so I normally don’t attest it to the product just malfunctioning as much as I do take into consideration that I just have weird skin. lol  I didn’t want to let the product go to waste, so I used it on my elbows.  I tend to have super dry skin on my elbows and wanted to see if this would work so that I could get some use out of it.  After applying it – I noticed my dry skin on my elbows look much better after I washed the scrub off.  My skin felt moisturized and soft and while I can’t use this product on my face, I’m certainly going to make use of it on my elbows, knees and heels of my feet.  Now, I only exfoliate one to two times a week since my skin is so sensitive – most the time, just one time a week and this product would still be too harsh using it at that amount.

Features & benefits:

  • Formulated for all skin types
  • Provides a smooth and even surface for a perfect self-tan application
  • Contains fine Jojoba beads to physically remove the dead skin cells
  • Infused with certified organic orange peel, lemon, and grapefruit extracts, leaving the skin cleansed and rejuvenated
  • Paraben-free, propylene glycol-free, sodium laurel/laureth sulfate-free, and cruelty-free (PETA certified)

Exscrub Me? Beautisol Face Exfoliant

There is a light citrus type fragrance to the scrub which really helps to invigorate all of your senses and it contains the following ingredients:

Aqua (Water), Polyethylene (Beads), Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Jojoba Esters (Beads), Behenyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Cetyl Alcohol, Dicaprylyl Ether, Glyceryl Stearate, Sucrose Stearate, Xanthan Gum, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Squalane, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel Oil, Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Citric Acid, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil*, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water, Potassium Sorbate, Carbomer, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Tocotrienols, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Phytic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Alcohol, Tocopherol (D-alpha), Passiflora Incarnata (Passionflower) Flower Extract *Certified Organic

Overall, even if I am not able to make use of the Beautisol Exscrub Me? Face Exfoliant on my face, I’m glad I was able to find some use for it.  Since my initial testing, I’ve been actually using it to exfoliate my feet and it is working like a charm.  I’m so glad I’m able to make good use of it.  At the price point, it’s affordable and I love the scent of it.  I think this is definitely something you could add to your skin care routine if you love citrus type scents – it makes you feel awake and rejuvenated.  I especially love that it is Cruelty Free and manufactured in the US.

This product was provided to me compliments of ifabbo.  While I was sent this product for review, all opinions are my own – honest and unbiased.

Skin that feels great, is hydrated and moisturized and looks fantastic… SIGN ME UP!  I have super dry skin and I also have severe Eczema so anything that keeps my skin supple and soft but also moisturized so that I do not get any Eczema flare ups is my best friend.  I have my go-to products and I still use them faithfully, but I have enjoyed adding the Hada Labo Tokyo Replenishing Hydrator to my skin care routine.  Affordable, easy to use and convenient… yup – I’m all over it.

Hada Labo Tokyo - Replenishing HydratorHada Labo Tokyo was created in Japan by Rohto Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd under the concept of “Perfect and Simple”, which promises highly effective skin care while eliminating all the unnecessary ingredients and additives.  Since its introduction in Japan in 2004, the Hada Labo brand has grown to more than 60 different products and explanded its success to several Asian countries.  This is the first Japanese skin care line to launch in the U.S. at mass retailers like Ulta.

While I only had the opportunity to try one of Hada Labo Tokyo’s products (the Replenishing Hydrator), I instantly loved the product and I’m already on my fourth bottle having received my first bottle to test run from ExpoTV.  After just one use, I was amazed at how my skin felt – quenched and soft.  I am so afraid at trying new skin care products because they can have severe affects on my Eczema and cause an irritation or flare up that can take a month to clear up.  After using this product for the last 5 months, I can honestly say I am a HUGE fan.

Hada Labo Tokyo Replenishing Hydrator

Said to boost hydration and plump fine lines, the replenishing hydrator is a product I can use daily (day and night) or when ever I feel I need a little extra boost.  I love that the product is light weight, clear and its liquid like texture is easy to apply and smooth onto the skin.  It penetrates my skin quickly, leaving it soft and moisturized all day long.  There is no scent and it is a non-sticky formula that makes it easy to apply and be on your way to start your day or hit the sheets.

Check out my video review embedded below or click here to watch it directly on YouTube.

Hada Labo Tokyo Replenishing Hydrator comes in a 1.7 fl. oz. bottle that retails on Ulta.com for $17.99.  The packaging is adorable – but I am a huge Sakura fan and love Cherry Blossoms, so that was a huge plus as well.  It comes with a pump which makes distributing the product a breeze and you always get the right amount of product each time.  I noticed while using it that I didn’t feel like I wasted a drop.

Hada Labo Tokyo Replenishing Hydrator

An instant boost of hydration infused with Super Hyaluronic Acid™. This lightweight, fast absorbing hydrator replenishes lost moisture as it combats skin dehydration, helping to prevent premature signs of aging. Skin will look and feel supple and radiant.

  1. Unique, clear liquid formula
  2. Lightweight and fast absorbing
  3. Quick, on-the-go moisture replenishment
  4. Use alone or in combination with other skin care products
  5. Can be applied over make-up
  6. Free from fragrance, parabens, dyes and mineral oils
  7. Suitable for all skin types

Hada Labo Tokyo Replenishing Hydrator

Did you watch my video review (above)?  At the end of the video I do a quick demo of how I apply the product itself.  This is an ideal skin care product for on the go as well as for travel – mainly because it is so easy to apply and not messy like a cream can be.  It’s not sticky on the fingers or on your face and soaks in so quickly, you’ll forget you just applied it.  As if all of those awesome things weren’t great enough – the product not only hydrates my skin but I also noticed a decrease in my fine lines… they didn’t completely disappear but diminished enough that I forgot I had them.

Key Ingredients:

  • Super Hyaluronic Acid (SHA): Proprietary combination of 3 types of Hyaluronic Acid. Powerful hydrator and plumper that provides multi-layer, long lasting moisture to restore and strengthen skin’s natural hydrating levels.
  • Gentle corn-derived glucose-based emollient that helps bind moisture to the skin.

Ingredients:

water, butylene glycol, glycerin, citric acid, dipropylene glycol, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, hydroxyethylcellulose, iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, methylisothiazolinone, PPG-10 methyl glucose ether, sodium acetylated hyaluronate, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, sodium hyaluronate.

Hada Labo Tokyo Replenishing Hydrator

Overall – as if you couldn’t already tell, I’m super duper impressed with this product not only because it didn’t give me any bad reactions but because it actually worked at what it is supposed to do.  And, it’s super affordable so keeping it in my skin care routine is not a daunting task on my pocket book.  Have you tried the Hada Labo Tokyo Replenishing Hydrator before or any Hada Labo Tokyo products?  I am really interested in your thoughts.  If you haven’t, is this something you would try?
