Smashbox released the Full Exposure Palette in December 2013.  I have had this palette for a couple of months and wanted to share my thoughts with you.

This palette is a neutral based tone palette that is perfect for anyone looking to have a palette that can be used from day to night and all year round.  If you are a neutral color lover when it comes to eye makeup – this palette offers a wide range of shades to create those gorgeous every day looks and smoky eyes.

Smashbox Full Exposure Palette

The Full Exposure Palette comes with 14 shades, 7 matte and 7 shimmer and come in a range of nudes to blacks.  I especially love that the Matte shades are fairly easy to blend considering they are matte and many mattes can be difficult.  While the shimmer shades are absolutely gorgeous – they do provide a significant amount of fall out because of the type of shimmer in the eye shadows, so patting motions when applying the shadows are suggested.  Also – I think it’s best to use them over a sticky base.

This set contains:
– 7 x 0.035 oz eye shadow in shimmer shades (top row): Chocolate Brown with Golden Pearl, Deep Golden Brown with Gold Pearl, Soft Gold with Gold and Silver Pearl, Light Tan with Gold and Silver Pearl, Golden Wheat with Gold Pearl, Midtone Slate with Silver Pearl, Rich Grey with Multicolor and Silver Pearl
– 7 x 0.035 oz eye shadow in matte shades (bottom row): Matte Warm Chocolate Brown, Matte Midtone Brown, Soft Matte Midtone Tan, Creamy Matte Beige, Soft Light Taupe, Ashy Dark Brown, Suede Black
– 0.14 oz Full Exposure Mascara deluxe sample
– Get-the-look eye shape chart

This palette / set retails for $49US and can be found at Sephora.com, Sephora stores, Smashbox.com, Ulta and Ulta.com

Smashbox Full Exposure Palette Swatches

Swatches were done on bare skin and are dry.  As you can see from the swatches – the shimmer shades, while pigmented and vibrant do have micro glitter in them that can cause the fall out mentioned previously.  Overall – I think it has great staying power, of course – over a base or primer, it will last all day.  I love that this palette is one I can grab for any day of the week and utilize it to create a number of looks.

Be My Valentine: Valentine's Day Makeup Tutorial feat Ipsy & Smashbox

Tutorial for this look can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFcprP9KdlE.  And photos for this look can also be found here.

The Full Exposure Palette was created because the pros at Smashbox Studios something like it. While on set, they have seen and worked with every single skin tone and eye shape imaginable, so they wanted a palette that could be used universally, on anyone and anywhere.  The artists created the how-to’s to use this palette based on eye shapes so that you could create the most gorgeous eyes possible using this palette.

Overall – I am still pretty impressed, even with the cons I did find in this palette.  I will continue to use it in looks to come.

Last year, Milani rolled out 4 Limited Edition Rose Powder blushes (Coming Up Roses).  I was so excited about them, I asked my husband if I could get them and he ordered all 4 for me through Milani’s website – which sold out within 24 hours of it’s release online.  The Coming Up Roses collection included three matte blushes and one shimmer in gorgeous wearable shades.  It sold out instantly in Drug stores when it was released and I know many that wished they could get their hands on it before they were gone.  These blushes were some of my favorites for 2013 that it made my Best of Beauty products for the year.  Because I enjoyed them so much – I was completely ecstatic when I found out from Milani that they were releasing them again this year – but this time around, they had four new shades.Milani Rose Powder Blushes 2014This year’s new release includes four new shades that are matte.  These shades are a little more daring that those in last year’s collection and very pigmented.  The shades included:  05 Coral Cove, 06 Lady Rouge, 07 Love Potion, 08 Tea Rose.  They retail for $7.99 on Milanicosmetics.com and should be available at select Walgreens stores soon – if they are not available already.   Just like last year – this year’s collection includes 0.60 oz / 17g per blush, but unlike last year – all the shades are completely matte.

05 Coral Cove Milani Rose Blush

05 Coral Cove is a beautiful coral/orange shade that will be awesome for the Spring and Summer months for those beachy looks.  This blush is super pigmented, so a little goes a long way and you want to take your time building up the shade.  For those of you with medium / dark skin tones – I like that this shade will show up nicely and still provide a great punch of color.  If you have lighter skin tones – this will also make an awesome selection for you.

06 Lady Rouge Milani Rose Powder Blush06 Lady Rouge is a gorgeous deep shade.  I think if you are dark skinned or medium skin toned, this shade would be perfect for you.  It’s a reddish-orange with deep pigmentation.  A little goes a long way with this product and because it is so pigmented, if you are light skinned, I suggest that you use a stippling brush to apply.  Tap off the excess from your brush before swiping on your face and build up the color instead of applying a lot at one time.

07 Love Potion - Milani Rose Powder Blush07 Love Potion is probably one of the boldest shades out of the four.  This shade is a hot pink / almost magenta shade that reminds me of a pink fruit punch.  Like all the others – this blush is very pigmented and a little goes a long way.  For those of you that are medium / dark skin toned, this shade works really nicely and is very visible and gorgeous against deeper skin tones.  If you have lighter skin, this shade will be equally gorgeous, but be sure to take your time building up the color.

08 Tea Rose - Milani Rose Powder Blush08 Tea Rose is a beautiful rose hued pink and probably the most wearable out of the bunch.  Like the other three, it is super pigmented but definitely a blush I think anyone of any skin tone could add to their collection.  If you could only choose one out of the whole collection and are looking for a blush you want to be able to wear often, I think this would be the shade for you.

Swatches of the Milani Rose Powder Blushes 2014Overall – I think these blushes are gorgeous, but as I discuss in my video here, they can be a bit patchy to work with.  After using them a few times (like last year’s edition) the patchy problem is not prominent but it is something you may have to work on at first.  While each color is super pigmented as you can see from the swatches, they can lend for a powdery consistency and will require you to blend out appropriately for the look you want to achieve.  I noticed that by using a stippling brush for application that it applied nicely and the color was distributed evenly.  Since there is that gorgeous rose embossing in the blush – I think some of that may be the reason for the patchy application.  It takes a little finesse and if you are willing to take the time, I think it would be well worth it.  If you are interested in these simply for collecting, I know they will be an awesome addition to your collection – but I use my blushes from last year often, so after using them a while – I’m sure they will become favorites.

I hope you enjoyed my video – Please Subscribe, Comment and Like if you did.

I did rate them a 3.8 – 4.0 on the Sparkle Scale.  That is a fairly medium rating considering I do love them a lot.  The reasoning behind that is because as I mentioned, I love them and don’t mind the work of building up the color slowly for the proper color payoff or taking my time to deal with the patchy color you can get when you first start using the blushes.  Those are things I will easily get past and I’m not worried about them.  However, you are only able to pick up one type of blush, looking for great color pay off and don’t want the hassle, I suggest the new Milani Matte Baked Blushes.  I have a review on those which you can find here.  If you want to get at least one Rose Blush and looking for something wearable – Tea Rose would be an awesome choice.

Overall – I think that these are beautiful, a great statement to any collection and highly pigmented.  These blushes are still available at milanicosmetics.com – so check them out if you are interested or find them at select Walgreens stores in March.  Remember, these are Limited Edition – so once they sell out, they’re gone.

Last year my awesome hubby purchased all four of the Limited Edition Rose blushes for me when Milani rolled it out.  This year – they are rolling out four new shades.  Since I didn’t have the chance to review the shades from last year – I’ll be talking about those in a blog post and video review soon and hope to get my hands on some of these new shades as well.

Milani Limited Edition Rose Blushes

Last year’s limited edition blushes made my Best of Beauty 2013 products because of their matte texture (most were matte) and staying power.  Not to mention that they are the awesomeness that come out of Milani and Milani blushes are some of my favorites.  These blushes retail on Milanicosmetics.com for $7.99 (shipping not included) and will be available next month for purchase at select Walgreens stores.  If you can get your hands on these, I highly suggest it.  Not only are they absolutely gorgeous in packaging and design, I truly love the first edition and I know I’ll be rampaging through my local Walgreens stores for this collection as well.

Note:  A review on the original four Milani blushes will be coming soon as well as the new release for this years four if I can get my hands on all of them.  Stay tuned.

I have struggled the last couple of weeks coming up with the words to put into this post to describe to all of you what my “Perception of Beauty” really was.  I jotted down ideas and thoughts, quotes and an overall view of what I wanted to say, but every time I put it down on paper or typed it out, it portrayed something completely different from what I had been trying to get across.  Honestly, I didn’t think I would be able to come up with anything and have had difficulty putting my thoughts into words.  You see… my perception of Beauty is very different from that of most, to me – I see beauty as a wonder and I see it in Everything.  As a Photographer, I have captured many beautiful scenes, memories, moments over the last few years, and growing up in Hawai’i has given me the opportunity to live in Paradise and see landscapes people only dream of.  “Beauty at its finest!”  But experiencing such, living those moments… doesn’t necessarily mean you see beauty as others do and your perception of beauty could be entirely different.  So – let’s start off with what Beauty really means as defined by a Dictionary:

Beauty: (beau-ty)

a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, esp. the sight.

So – let’s ask that question once again… What is my perception of beauty?  I’ll be honest… I think beauty comes in all forms, all sizes, all colors and all shapes, but to me – Beauty comes from within!  Beauty to me means that you not only love yourself but that you are comfortable in the skin you are in.  Beauty also means that you embrace the World in all its wonder instead of criticizing it for not being perfect.  If there is one thing I learned about the Beauty community or Beauty showcased in a whole, is that there is a romantic notion over making others feel like they are not beautiful.  Don’t get me wrong, not everyone thinks or acts this way – but it seems that the Perception of Beauty is that “to each his own” and that you have to look a certain way, act a certain way and treat others a certain way to look or feel beautiful.

Society would like us to think that Beauty is what you see on the covers of magazines – flawless skin, makeup, hair, bodies.  When in actuality we are not all cookie cutter shaped Barbies that our World would like us to be.  We are all people in a World of PERFECT IMPERFECTIONS that make us unique and individual.  Beauty is not about makeup, it’s not about covering up your flaws to make yourself feel beautiful.  It is about empowering yourself and those around you to love one another and love being you.  It’s about knowing that you are perfect, no matter what the popularity vote may be.

It’s funny that I come and talk to you all about “being comfortable in your own skin” and not needing makeup to feel beautiful when I do makeup tutorials and looks for YouTube and my blog often.  But I’ll be honest, I don’t use makeup everyday… in fact, I love a bare face and I’m comfortable leaving my house that way.  I don’t care that people will look at me and say… “whoa, she looks different without her face on”, because I love who I am.  I usually put on a little mascara (I have super short lashes lol) and maybe some lip balm and I’m out the door.  Because to me… Societies definition of Beauty DOES NOT define ME!

Honey Kahoohanohano

I don’t know that this post truly explained what my perception of beauty truly is… but I hope it got my message across.  I’m still not sure that the words I put here are what I wanted to convey, but nonetheless – I think I did an okay job.  Humanity as a whole needs to know that while there are beautiful men, women and children everywhere… we need to know that we can find beauty in ourselves.  It all starts with us, one person at a time.  If there is one thing I wish that the Beauty Community that I’m a part of would do, it is to establish that you don’t need to be “flawless” to be beautiful and that bullying others to thinking so or feeling inferior is wrong.  But, that’s another post I’ll try to tackle another time.

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite Artists as I close this post.  Know that YOU are (pardon my french) FRICKEN AMAZING – Just the way you are and “if perfect’s what you’re looking for… then just stay the same” and love yourself.  Be comfortable in your skin and know that I love you for you with all my heart, and support you for who you are!  EMBRACE & LOVE YOUR PERFECT IMPERFECTIONS!  xo Honey
