NEW NYX Palettes Spring 2014

This year NYX released some new goodies to their line… from their Butter Lipsticks and Colored Mascaras to some new and fun palettes.  Included in some of those new NYX palettes is the Adorable Palette, Sex Bomb Palette and Dream Catcher Palettes.  I have been testing out these new palettes for the last couple of months and wanted to share my thoughts on the products themselves as well as swatches and photos.  Check out my video review embedded below or click here to watch it directly on YouTube.  Keep reading on below the video for swatches and my thoughts.

I hope you enjoyed my video review – please Subscribe, Comment and Like!

Let’s talk Sex Bomb Palette.  This palette comes with six gorgeous shades that are perfect to create a bold and sexy smoky eye.  This palette retails for $7.50 on NYX’s website and was released along with the Adorable Palette (pictured below).  Most of the shades on this palette offer great color pay-off and pigmentation.  They can be a little powdery – but still apply nicely with a great base and/or primer.

NYX Sex Bomb PaletteThe shimmery taupe shade is probably the least of my favorite in this palette as it is very shimmery and leaves behind quite a bit of glittery fall out.  I definitely suggest applying that shade over a creamy/sticky base to keep the shimmers from falling but also to keep from the shadow disappearing after applying.  This shade lasted the shortest on my eyes and creased very easily, even if over my best base and primer.  I attest it to the shimmer and while it can be a pain, it’s still a gorgeous shade.  The black and cream shade in this palette is absolutely awesome – giving you great color pay-off and the matte taupe is a favorite to use all over the lid or as a transition shade.  The red looks like a red in the palette but it did seem like a red with a pink tone to it when used on the eye or swatched.  It’s not a shade I would use often, but it is gorgeous and I love that it is matte.  The charcoal shade in the palette has shimmer, but looks great for smoky looks.  Overall I’m impressed with the NYX Sex Bomb Palette and think it would be a cool addition to any collection, especially at its price point.

NYX Sex Bomb Palette Swatches

Next… the NYX Adorable Palette.  Similar style in packaging to the Sex Bomb palette (and the Natural palette released last year), the Adorable Palette includes soft neutral shades to create an every day neutral eye or even bump it up for a smoky eye.  This palette includes 6 shades in a selection of soft shades to create gorgeous eye looks for those that are looking for a palette that does not include bold bright colors.  If you are someone that loves neutral/nude colors, this would be a great palette for you.  Like the Sex Bomb Palette, this retails for $7.50 and can be found on NYXcosmetics.com, Ulta.com and select stores that carry the brand.

NYX Adorable Palette

This palette is probably my favorite out of the three that I am reviewing here.  The shades are the most universal for me since I do not use bold shades often.  Even if they look like soft neutral colors, you can easily create a bold and daring look with little effort.  I created the smoky eye below using this palette and it was easy and fun.

Valentine's Day Bombshell Makeup Tutorial

A tutorial for the look above can be found here and products used can also be found here.

I’m quite impressed with the colors and their quality in this palette.  The shades are pigmented and you can always build them up easily if you are going for a deeper, bolder look.  While some of them may be a tad bit powdery, blending was easy and the color pay off was great.  The shade that was not my favorite would be the Shimmery brown shade, while absolutely gorgeous with its gold shimmer, you lose the shimmer while blending and you can experience some fall out.  The base for that shade (the dark brown) is still pretty pigmented however, so if you are not interested in the gold micro glitters that are in that color, the dark brown works well.

NYX Adorable Palette Swatches

I love that the Adorable palette is like an all-in-one.  It not only offers you lid and crease shades, you get transition, highlight and even an outer-v shade to create a plethora of eye looks.  I think this palette is probably my favorite because it allows me to use one palette to create a look instead of dipping into my collection to pull for a transition shade or highlight – which I often do with other palettes I own.

NYX Dream Catcher Dusk Til Dawn Palette

The Dusk Til Dawn Palette (Dream Catcher Palette) comes with 10 shades.  It is one out of 3 Palettes that is included in the Dream Catcher Palette Collection.  These are said to be Limited Edition though they have been available on NYX’s Website, Ulta and various Drug Store locations for the last few months – so I’m not too sure if they will hang around a little longer.  Each palette in the Dream Catcher Collection retails for $15 and include rich neutral shades that you can use to create smoky eyes or every day looks.  The particular palette I received (Dusk Til Dawn) includes neutrals and a purple toned shade to create looks.

Dusk Til Dawn Swatches NYXWhile the shadows appear to be very pigmented and have a buttery texture, they do offer a heavy amount of fall out and can be very powdery when applying.  I felt that it was quite a challenge working with the shadows because of how powdery they were, but the shades themselves were absolutely gorgeous and offered a great variety for creating a daytime/neutral look or smoky eye.  When working with these – I needed to apply them over a sticky base and I also needed to consistently build up on the color to get the color pay off that you see in the swatches above.  Overall – I think the shades could use a little work, but I would love to see NYX come out with another one similar once the formulation on these shadows are fixed.  As I said before – the colors are gorgeous, they just don’t offer the pigmentation and buttery quality I look for when using eye shadows.  Staying power was also an issue as after just a few short hours, even the dark shades were faded on my eyes over a great primer.

Final Thoughts

I have been using NYX products since 2007 and for the most part, I am always impressed with their quality – especially since the brand is affordable.  For the most part, I think these palettes are pretty good – though I do think the Dream Catcher palette could use a little tweaking in formulation.  If you are just starting off or are seasoned in makeup, I think any of these would be great additions to your collection.  Do you own any of these palettes?  If you do, I would love to know your thoughts on them and if you don’t… what palette do you have your eyes on?

I am a lover of sweet things… Vanilla, Sugar and soft floral scents.  Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be a fan of scent called Dark Rum.  Over the course of the last few months, I have heard great things and raves about Malin + Goetz Dark Rum EDT (Eau De Toilette) and I was completely intrigued as to why… since I just couldn’t image what the hype was all about.  What could possibly be so exotic and sultry about this scent that it can be used for both Men and Women and some of my favorite celebrities love it so?  Well, after getting my hands on a bottle – I found out exactly what the hype was all about.

Malin and Goetz Dark Rum

Our Dark Rum EDT is synthesized for its natural, warm notes and general well being. Modern and dynamic, this formidable and long-lasting fragrance performs on its own or paired with the subtle freshness of our Synthesized Lotus Root, creating a unique sensory balance tailored to an individual or couple.

I am not a huge fan of fragrances that have musky or deep masculine notes so I didn’t expect to enjoy or like Dark Rum from Malin+Goetz at all.  After a spritz of it on my wrist and inhaling the scent, I was immediately intoxicated.  I was expecting to smell a deep dark and rich scent that I am not too fond of, but I was very impressed that my first whiff of the perfume was the complete opposite.  I don’t even know how to explain it.   If I had to actually put it into words I would explain it as… “a soft but sweet musk”.  But, here’s the interesting thing about this perfume or Eau De Toilette, it can be used for both Men and Women and the scent that shines when I’m wearing it seems to be completely different than that when on my husband.  When he wears this EDT, it has a masculine scent that compliments his chemistry makeup.  It smells sexy and I LOVE IT.

Check out the embedded video below for my thoughts on the perfume, or click here and watch it directly on YouTube.

When I use this perfume, I get SO MANY compliments.  I promise you, until you smell it – you will not understand what I am talking about.  I love to spritz a small amount of my Coach Love Perfume or Halloween and then spritz on my Dark Rum for a different, entrancing and unique fragrance.  Dark Rum EDT pairs nicely with some of my favorite, deeper or musky scents in my collection for a custom fit for my body chemistry that leaves me feeling empowered, sexy and beautiful.  Who says a fragrance can’t do that for a woman, or man?

NOTES:

Top notes of bergamot and plum, middle notes of rum and leather, dry down of amber, patchouli, and milk.

INGREDIENTS:

ALCOHOL 40B, FRAGRANCE (PARFUM), WATER (AQUA), BHT, ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE (AND) BUTYL METHOXYDIBENZOYLMETHANE (AND) ETHYLHEXYL SALICYLATE.

Malin+Goetz Dark Rum EDT

Now, if you know anything about me you will know my favorite scents… and I have just added Dark Rum to one of my go-to signature loves.  It’s a fairly steep price to pay for a bottle of perfume, so at $150 US – it will be a splurge item for me once I run out of the bottle I have, but… with 3.4fl.oz. / 100ml in product I’m sure it will last me, hopefully. lol The scent lasts through the day so carrying a large bottle with you to reapply is not necessary.  I especially love that the bottle/packaging is clean, simple and really allows the scent to speak for itself.  Don’t get me wrong – I’m a sucker for gorgeous packaging, but with this product, the smell speaks for itself.

Pair this Perfume with Malin+Goetz fresh, subtle synthesized lotus root for the perfect balance.

Malin and Goetz Dark Rum EDT

So now that you know my thoughts on this product, would you spend that kind of money on a scent that could render your completely intoxicated?  I’m definitely excited to test it out with other fragrances I have in my collection but so far – I am truly enjoying Dark Rum.

Steam Cream Precious

Winter is the most brutal time for my skin – especially since I have really severe eczema.  After years of battling issues, I have finally found natural ways to keep my crazy skin at bay – but I am always looking for new treatments that can pamper my skin.  I have used MANY different moisturizers in the past and I am very happy to add Steam Cream to my skin care products that I like.

Steam cream - precious

Steam cream is a light weight moisturizer that can be used universally to add moisture to your face, hands and body.  It is suitable for all skin types and is handmade using quality natural ingredients that are fused together with a shot of steam.  By doing this unique method you are left with a light weight moisturizer that provides long lasting hydration for your body, face and hands.

STEAMCREAM is handmade in the UK and Japan with fresh, traceable ingredients. It’s super-moisturising, sinks deep down instantly and revives your skin straight away. It makes your skin simply the best it can be, naturally.

Our beautiful, eco-friendly limited edition tins are designed by us but we do also enjoy working with other inspiring designers to spice things up. Grab your favourites before they sell out!

When you’ve used your STEAMCREAM, keep your tin for storing things and come back to see what’s new.

STEAMCREAM is an award winner. We won the CEW (UK) Award for Best Everyday New Skincare and Pure Beauty Award for Best Design & Packaging. Once you’ve tried it you’ll understand why!

Steam Cream - Precious

Some of the ingredients included in this product include:  Oatmeal, Orange Flower Water, Almond Oil, Lavender Oil, Neroli Oil, Chamomile Blue Oil, Jojoba Oil and Cocoa Butter – to name a few.  The scent smells of a light lavender and I was amazed that it was not too overbearing for me (I’m pretty sensitive to smell).  The cream is not as thick as I thought it would be – it almost has more of a lotion or cold cream texture.  The cream is not only All Natural but also Vegan.  The product is made in kitchens (yes, totally handmade) in the UK and Japan.

Steam Cream Precious

The cream offers a nice hydration for my skin and I didn’t have any reaction to it – which is a great plus considering I always have issues with new skincare products.  While my hands and body enjoyed the moisture, I could not use the product on my face due to my face being too sensitive.  The cream is slightly oily (slippery) and while it soaked in nicely on my body and hands, it left my face feeling very greasy.  I love it for use on the body – but I can’t use it on my face.  I do love how it feels on my body and it soaked in to my hands nicely enough that my hands were not slippery when I tried to drive (my biggest pet peeve).

Steam Cream Swatch

Each cream comes in a very cool tin.  There are many Limited Edition designs available on the site and they come in so many cool looks for any one you have in mind.  I have precious (the pink/white tin pictured) and Shu (gold/red pictured).  The designs are definitely what catch my eye.  The tin itself seems quite tiny – especially for their $20 price tag, but there is 2.5 oz worth of product in each tin which means you will get a lot of use out of this little container.  I love that the tin twists on tight so I have been able to carry it in my purse for safe keeping without worrying that it will damage the contents of my bag or my bag itself.  I also love that the tins are reusable once the cream is gone.  This is totally a plus because these tins are so cool.

Steam Cream - Shu

Overall I’m very pleased with this moisturizing cream – especially for use all over my body.  The tins they have available have me completely mesmerized because of their awesome designs, about 50 total.  While the creams texture is a little odd for me (being a body butter user), it didn’t stop me from using it consistently.  The moisture the product gives lasts for most of the day and the light scent is not overpowering – it doesn’t battle against my daily perfume or body spray.

Sparkle rating… 4.0 – it offers awesome hydration for my body and hands, but I cannot use it on my face.

Check out steamcream.co.uk/for more information, to look at all the tin designs available and to order.

Smashbox released the Full Exposure Palette in December 2013.  I have had this palette for a couple of months and wanted to share my thoughts with you.

This palette is a neutral based tone palette that is perfect for anyone looking to have a palette that can be used from day to night and all year round.  If you are a neutral color lover when it comes to eye makeup – this palette offers a wide range of shades to create those gorgeous every day looks and smoky eyes.

Smashbox Full Exposure Palette

If you enjoyed my video – please don’t forget to Subscribe, Comment & Rate.  Thank you!

Smashbox Full Exposure Palette

The Full Exposure Palette comes with 14 shades, 7 matte and 7 shimmer and come in a range of nudes to blacks.  I especially love that the Matte shades are fairly easy to blend considering they are matte and many mattes can be difficult.  While the shimmer shades are absolutely gorgeous – they do provide a significant amount of fall out because of the type of shimmer in the eye shadows, so patting motions when applying the shadows are suggested.  Also – I think it’s best to use them over a sticky base.

This set contains:
– 7 x 0.035 oz eye shadow in shimmer shades (top row): Chocolate Brown with Golden Pearl, Deep Golden Brown with Gold Pearl, Soft Gold with Gold and Silver Pearl, Light Tan with Gold and Silver Pearl, Golden Wheat with Gold Pearl, Midtone Slate with Silver Pearl, Rich Grey with Multicolor and Silver Pearl
– 7 x 0.035 oz eye shadow in matte shades (bottom row): Matte Warm Chocolate Brown, Matte Midtone Brown, Soft Matte Midtone Tan, Creamy Matte Beige, Soft Light Taupe, Ashy Dark Brown, Suede Black
– 0.14 oz Full Exposure Mascara deluxe sample
– Get-the-look eye shape chart

This palette / set retails for $49US and can be found at Sephora.com, Sephora stores, Smashbox.com, Ulta and Ulta.com

Smashbox Full Exposure Palette Swatches

Swatches were done on bare skin and are dry.  As you can see from the swatches – the shimmer shades, while pigmented and vibrant do have micro glitter in them that can cause the fall out mentioned previously.  Overall – I think it has great staying power, of course – over a base or primer, it will last all day.  I love that this palette is one I can grab for any day of the week and utilize it to create a number of looks.

Be My Valentine: Valentine's Day Makeup Tutorial feat Ipsy & Smashbox

Tutorial for this look can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFcprP9KdlE.  And photos for this look can also be found here.

The Full Exposure Palette was created because the pros at Smashbox Studios something like it. While on set, they have seen and worked with every single skin tone and eye shape imaginable, so they wanted a palette that could be used universally, on anyone and anywhere.  The artists created the how-to’s to use this palette based on eye shapes so that you could create the most gorgeous eyes possible using this palette.

Overall – I am still pretty impressed, even with the cons I did find in this palette.  I will continue to use it in looks to come.
