Here in Hawaii, May 1st is called Lei Day. It’s a popular tradition here in our State that on Lei Day, most elementary schools will celebrate their May Day festivities which include everything from performances to a Royal Court that is represented by the keiki (children). Everything from Hula and dancing to fun games and wonderful Hawaiian food are usually a part of the day. Since it is Lei Day here, it means that most of Hawaii’s schools will be getting ready to start Summer vacation (summer break) and the school year will be coming to an end in a few short weeks. I can’t believe how fast the time has flown by and how much I have accomplished in April.
Since it is the beginning of the month and sometimes I feel like I need a little boost of inspiration for the month to come – I put together a little something for my readers. With the humdrum of every day life or the busy schedules we often live, we don’t take the time to really stop thinking about important things and instead put them in motion. This month I have a fun free wallpaper or background for the techie lovers. This background can be used for your Desktop (PC or MAC), Smartphone (Android or iPhone) and Tablet (Android / iPad) and it is free to download. The quote is one I have loved for years and decided I would share the love with all of you. The image is one that I have taken of some beautiful roses and I thought it would be a fun way to incorporate a little Spring into your lives.

As a mother with skin sensitivities, I’m constantly on the hunt for products that will help to make my “mommy duties” a little less hectic and keep my…
I know what you’re thinking… Spring is here, Summer is right around the bend and if you are anything like me, you are prepping for the warmer months. Since I live in Hawaii when it comes to Spring and Summer I tend to wear less makeup or none at all so that I can always be ready to jump into the cool, blue, beautiful ocean at a moment’s notice. Living in Paradise is a benefit and I want to be sure that I can take full advantage of it as much as possible. In the case I get caught off guard or ill prepared, I have two products from Pacifica Beauty that I know will be available for me when I need them. The Pacifica Essential Makeup Removing Wipes and Pacifica Underarm Deodorant Wipes.
The Pacifica Brand has been one I have loved and adored over the last few years and I’m always intrigued by the new products they release. Exclusively available at Ulta, the Underarm Deodorant Wipes and Essential Makeup Removing Wipes are packaged in cute and colorful packs (perfect for Spring and Summer) and are ready for you when you need them, whether on the go or in the comforts of your own home.
The Pacifica Underarm Deodorant Wipes ($10) is something new and innovative to help with any underarm issues. These wipes include a blend of natural essential oils and coconut milk that help to neutralize odor. They are aluminum-free, biodegradable and keep you smelling fresh and feeling great for hours. I have been loving these wipes for days I know I’m hitting the beach and throw it into my beach bag to keep me smelling great all day – even after play. Since the ocean water (or pool or pond) can take off any deodorant you may have put on prior, these wipes are handy and essential in keeping me feeling fresh.
These deodorant wipes are soft, with a light fresh scent. They are great for all skin types, 100% Vegan and Cruelty-free. I keep one in my purse always and I love that this makes things so convenient. I pull them out when needed and use on its own. These wipes help to stop malodors and don’t use harsh chemicals which is a big deal for me and my sensitive skin.
The Pacifica Essential Makeup Removing Wipes ($6) is a new addition as well. Infused with coconut milk and jasmine, these biodegradable towelettes help to gently remove makeup, daily pollutants and all the things you don’t want to sleep with. (Honey note: These should be used in combination with your facial cleansing routine, not in place of it) I love the inclusion of Jojoba Oil and Aloe Vera which help to make these wipes gentle on my sensitive skin and leave my skin moisturized. These are different from the Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes as these are made to really remove makeup and they do not burn or cause sensitivities to my skin as the Purify wipes have done. (Read more about that here.) While these wipes work good in removing makeup, I still find that in comparison to my normal makeup removing wipes, these still need a little more effort in removing some of my waterproof makeup.
These wipes are soft, feel great on the skin and are gentle. They do dissolve makeup and I love keeping a packet on hand with me so that on those days I want to jump into the ocean, I can remove my makeup before splashing around (or after to do a fix up). These wipes smell nice, really refreshing and clean and like the Underarm Deodorant wipes, these are also good for all skin types, 100% Vegan and Cruelty-Free.
Hawaii is my playground and there is no time to stop and think about how my makeup looks or if my deodorant held up. When ke kai (the ocean) calls, I just want to jump right in and feel its arms wrap around me. ~ Honey
What I love about Pacifica products is that like me, these are products developed by ocean and beach lovers. Living in Hawaii has its challenges with cost of living and availability but that doesn’t make it any less of a paradise to me and no matter where my future may take me, it will always be my home. Pacifica is brand that always reminds me of the paradise I love and has a product line I’m fond of. Founded by Brook Harvey-Taylor, Pacifica products offer quality with island and beach living comfort. Luxury that doesn’t have to come at great prices to consumers, animals or the planet.
Have you tried any of the Pacifica Beauty brand wipes before? If so, which ones and what are your thoughts on them?

“I’m addicted to all things planner, paper, stationary!” There, I admitted it – so commit me to planner paper anonymous… teehee! I think planning and paper are…
Happy April loves. I can’t believe how fast this year is flying by me. I’ve been working with my eldest son’s school for his transition into Intermediate School and the twins are going to Kindergarten soon… excuse me while I shed a tear – lol, so this year is just speeding on by. While I’m sad to see it pass so quickly, I’m excited to see change and I welcome it. So – even though time is whirling past us, let’s take a minute and dance like no ones watching.
Music always feeds my soul… it’s something I listen to daily and it’s always playing while I’m writing to keep my mind in the mood and inspired. This month comes with all types of inspiration and lots of good and easy listening jams to keep me motivated. April is my month for love as my husband and I celebrate our wedding anniversary so this month’s playlist includes songs that include a little romance as well as those that keep me motivated, inspired and make me feel like I’m dancing. While there are a few new hits within the bunch, there are also a lot favorites from back in my day that I have enjoyed over the years.
A few songs on this month’s playlist include:
Skin Tight – Niykee Heaton
Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
Hey, Soul Sister – Train
Glory – John Legend & Common
If I Ain’t Got You – Alicia Keys
Lay Me Down – Sam Smith feat. John Legend
For a full list of the songs in this playlist or to have a listen – click here.
I love turning up some great jams while I am working on my week and month in my Kikki-K Gold Time planner. This month I decided I wanted to switch out my lilac for the gold and I’m absolutely loving it. Do you turn it up while planning? I find myself listening to music and midway through decorating a page, I’m up and dancing and I love it.
So – what’s on your playlist for April? I find that some of the songs I selected work well for my daily walks as well… so feel free to add some of these to your music playlist for the month.
When it comes to office and stationary products, I just can’t resist and often times I find myself combing through the office supply sections of my local…

It’s absolutely no secret that I’m a huge fan of seafood and sushi so when the opportunity arises to get some stellar grinds, know that I’ll be the first one in line. How else do you think I became a plus sized girl? lol My husband and I have dined in at Makawao Sushi and Deli Maui before and have always enjoyed our food there and since it is just a short drive from where we live, we decided to satisfy our sushi fix there on Saturday night.
Makawao Sushi and Deli is a quaint little hole in the wall off of Baldwin Avenue in Makawao. This little establishment has been open now for quite a few years, since my husband and I first ate there about 9 years ago and it was open before then. You can find a variety of Deli type items on the menu from sandwiches and yummy delights like chocolate cream horns, croissants and cheesecake – though that is not the reason we visit the Deli. Inside the sandwich shop is a little sushi bar filled with a variety of fresh seafood for anyone’s desire. I have eaten at many sushi bars and establishments, but one so quaint and small normally does not host fresh seafood as Makawao Sushi does. Here is a line up of the food we ate on Saturday.
The first platter served to us was the Deluxe Sashimi plate which includes fish like Ahi (Tuna), Salmon, Hamachi (Japanese Amberjack / yellow tail), Hamadai (snapper) and another type of fish that I did not get the name of. This particular plate costs $49.00 (21 pieces) but considering how fresh the fish is and the amount on the plate, definitely worth it.
Next on the menu we ordered the Spicy Ahi (tuna) which is a blend of spicy mix and ahi (tuna) which is quite popular for sushi lovers. It is hand-rolled and is $9.00 for six pieces and we got four orders.
Yummy yummy, the Rainbow Roll. As beautiful and colorful as the rainbow, this delicious roll is a hand-rolled sushi with crab on the inside and wrapped with fresh ahi, salmon and hamachi along with avocado and tobiko (flying fish roe). If I had to suggest any sushi on the menu, this would definitely be it. If you love seafood, this will satisfy your craving as the fish is fresh and layered beautifully on the roll giving you yummy fish in every single bite. Each roll is $18 and we ordered two rolls since I could easily eat one by myself… lol.
This fun presentation is the Spider Roll or otherwise known as the Soft Shell Crab roll. This is filled with soft shell crab, avocado and rolled up with a little tobiko on the top. One of my favorites to eat because I’m a huge lover of soft shell crab and the presentation is surely eye appealing. This roll is $16.50.
This is a combo plate with the Tempura Roll (left) and 007 Roll (right). The Tempura Roll ($16.50) is a traditional california style roll with tempura fried shrimp. The 007 Roll ($20.00) is a traditional spicy tuna (ahi) roll topped with Ebi, Avocado and Unagi Sauce.
Last but not least is the Uni sushi. This sushi is probably one of my favorites and when prepared with fresh Uni (sea urchin), it’s delicious and butter in flavor and texture. Makawao Sushi & Deli ALWAYS have fresh Uni which is wonderful because not very many places will have it as fresh as they do. This is definitely an acquired taste and expensive… sold at Market Price per piece, this one piece of sushi can cost anywhere from $5.75 – $9.00 but in my opinion – it’ swell worth it. I grew up eating this stuff (the yellow sea urchin) fresh from the ocean as a kid and it is now difficult to find. If you are in to trying interesting food, you’ll love this.
Now that we have gotten the food part out of the way – let’s talk about Makawao Sushi & Deli in general. Again, this is a small deli which will comfortably host about 25-30 people. It has a small restroom within the establishment which is nice since the nearest restroom on that road is no where to be found. I consider this place pretty kid friendly as you can purchase a variety of beverages in the bottle or cup for your littles and it is a casual environment so shirt and shorts are fine. Makawao Sushi does not sell alcohol which is something traditionally expected at a sushi bar, but they allow you to bring your own alcohol and they do not charge a corkage fee. I think for a girls day out, or a night out with friends, this would be a nice little place to hang out and enjoy some sushi delights. The sushi pictured is not all they carry and they offer a full menu where you can easily pick and choose what you want to eat. Keep in mind that there is usually only two to three people working at a time – the sushi chef and the waitress/host so service can be slow as each sushi plate is made to order.
My family and I enjoy eating here. Again – the environment is casual and the sushi really is fresh and delicious. While the prices can seem a bit steep, I consider them reasonable since you are getting fresh ingredients and they are made to order. Keep in mind parking can be a bit difficult sometimes but usually not enough to keep you from eating there. I hope you enjoyed this, I certainly loved sharing it with you. All photos were taken with my cell phone and the lighting was not ideal, so I apologize for that.
Bon Appetite! If you visit Maui and find yourself in the sleepy old town of Makawao – stop by and visit Makawao Sushi and Deli for some yummy delights.
