It is no secret as I’ve talked about my aches and pains  as well as my husband’s here on the site before.  While supplements have definitely given us some relief over the years, we are always looking to alternatives to assist with the pain.  Over the last 15 years or so my husband and I have used various types of Tens Unit Electronic Pulse machines and recently we have started using a new one.  I wanted to share with all of you our thoughts on the Santamedical PM-120 Tens Unit Electronic Pulse Massager and discuss how this product has worked for us.

Between hours of Physical Therapy and years of supplements and treatment, my husband and I know that any little thing can help when it comes to pain.  I suffer from severe Carpal Tunnel syndrome and Medial Epicondylitis and my husband has wrist sprain & pain from an injury sustained at work as well as a herniated/perforated disk in his spine amongst old sports injuries in his knees and a past shoulder surgery.  We have had our share of tens units prescribed to us through doctors that wound up costing us hundreds of dollars.  Don’t get me wrong – they work and do offer some pain relief but they can be expensive and even if our medical covered a portion, they still became a cost we had to burden.

PM-120 Tens Unit Electronic Pulse Massager

Recently my husband and I were able to try out the SantaMedical PM-120 Tens Unit Electronic Pulse Massager.  This cool little unit is actually quite affordable.  It’s a small and portable compact device that is great on the go or for travel.  Retails for $149.95 but is currently on sale for $35.00 which is a steal considering ones my husband and I own that are quite far and above that price point and do the same thing.  The unit offers six auto modes (stimulation programs) and a pause button and with a 10 to 60 minute timer with auto shut off, you get various options for relief.  The unit has an LCD display which is much easier to read than a manual display that many on the market still have and you also get attachment pads, a rechargeable battery and a power adapter all included.

The adhesive pads / electrodes have a great stickiness to them so you can use it more than once and the battery is rechargeable which makes it much more affordable.  Some of our older Tens Units require 9Volt batteries which can be costly.  I like that you can use this anywhere on the body and there are a set of two wires with two wires attached to each so you can place the electrodes on four areas that need treatment.  The LCD screen is easy to see and read and the unit itself is easy to maneuver as well.  This unit overall comes with everything you need to give your body some relief for both joint and muscle pain and again – the price can’t be beat.  Check out my video below for my thoughts live or click here to watch directly on YouTube.

Maui Welcomes T.J. Maxx - Grand Opening Today

I have been waiting for this day to come for over a year now and I am truly excited to finally say that Maui welcomes T.J. Maxx and today they were celebrating their Grand Opening.  Despite the warnings of funky weather and storms due to Guillermo,  many made it out early this morning to experience the doors opening on this big day.  I received confirmation that many stood in line from 6am as the doors opened at 8am and many experienced the opening festivities that went off without a hitch.  I arrived just after 8am and while the line was wrapped half way around the building, it moved quickly and I was able to get into the building within a minute of standing in line.

As I neared the entrance with my girlfriend Jamie, we were greeted politely and sweetly by many employees of the new T.J. Maxx as well as Corporate Representatives.  I’ll be honest, I have been to Grand Openings of stores before and it was awesome to see smiling faces on employees that looked genuinely happy to be working for the company.  While walking around – I overheard several of the workers exclaim that they were excited to be working for a company that had already proved to be beneficial.

I was a bit bummed to have missed out on the opening festivities, but nonetheless, I was just happy to be a part of this launch day.  Walking around the store was a bit hectic as is any store when it is newly opened, especially when you live on an island that really doesn’t have too many stores like such.  But, considering I have shopped like a mad woman on days like Black Friday – it was busy but it really wasn’t as bad as it could have been.  It was nice to see a variety of products and selections available and I immediately set my eyes on the handbag section which I’ll be back to visit later.  The displays were placed appropriately and I loved seeing how neat and organized it all was on the inside.  I’ll be honest, I loath shopping at another discount store because of the disorganized mess, so I am hoping T.J. Maxx will hold on to their reputation by keeping it in order as it was today.

Despite the craziness and the large crowds, employees still managed to keep a smile on their face and I stopped to ask several questions and received knowledgeable responses, friendly smiles and accommodation which was a breathe of fresh air.

It’s nice to know that there is much more option on the island for shopping and I wish T.J. Maxx would have opened a month earlier to accommodate for school shopping, but I’m glad it is open today.  Filled with various name brands at discounted prices, I found everything from housewares to cosmetics (and everything in between) and I look forward to visiting the store again in the future to really take the time to check it out.  It’s nice to know that some of the higher end brands that I love (like hair care) can be purchased at a discount here.

The little showers that we experienced this morning certainly didn’t rain on anyone’s parade and shoppers were excited to see what the store offered.  I love the personal “Hawaii” touches I seen through out the store and while I didn’t purchase anything today – I know I’ll be back soon.

Having Fun and Staying Active With Limm Jump Rope

While staying active and getting much needed exercise can be a challenge for anyone, I find that the best way to incorporate it all into my daily life with my family is to do something fun that keeps us moving.  Walking is a great way for my family to stay active because we enjoy walking our neighborhood or going on nature hikes to find awesome flora and fauna or new bugs we can discuss and research when we get home.  We also love to part take in sports and swim but lately we have been enjoying a little jump rope fun in our lives.  The Limm Jump Rope is a recent addition to our active lifestyle and gives us the opportunity to not only get in some much needed cardio but also have a lot of fun with each other.

While a traditional workout is definitely suggested in any situation, sometimes we need something fun for my kids to take part in it. Like I mentioned previously – we love our walks because it allows us to not only get in some cardio, but also allows us to explore the World and our surroundings.  With an addition of a jump rope to that mix, the boys, my husband and I now have something else we can take part in that is not only fun, but offers a great deal of exercise and no matter how it’s done – you get a great workout.

I have always been known to have the travel bug!  From the young age of 7, my little sister and I hopped on the plane by ourselves each vacation break to visit our grandmother on another island and till this day, traveling has been something I loved to do.  I have been to all the major Hawaiian Islands and have traveled across the United States from the West to the East Coast, visiting landmarks and attractions I had only dreamed of as a child.  Now that I’m married and have a family of my own, I believe that any journey a person takes in life are moments to cherish and that is why family fun during the summer is so important to me.

CakeDori FauxDori – An Affordable Alternative to a Midori Traveler’s Notebook

I love to journal and keep my thoughts in one place so I’m always looking for ways to keep all of my journal and sketch books together.  I have always been intrigued by a Midori Traveler’s Notebook style system and just didn’t want to splurge on it so I decided that I would try out a fauxdori (faux midori) and see if it was something I would like.  Last year I created my own DIY Fauxdori and have been using that up until I picked this one up from Cake Paperie.  The concept of a Midori style Traveler’s Notebook is that you can insert various printables, inserts or books and it makes it easy for you to update and remove your inserts with ease.  This system is especially great for those who use journal books or diaries as they can remove each book and replace with a new one while storing, keeping or archiving their filled books.  I have searched the internet for an affordable alternative to the Midori and decided I would keep with a fabric styled one until I found a leather one I loved.  After months of combing the internet, I came across the Cake Paperie store on Etsy.  I wanted to share with you details and my thoughts on the CakeDori FauxDori in case this is something you may be interested in picking up for yourself.

Cake Paperie is an Etsy shop that offers many designs in different fabrics for you to choose from.  The owner – Gretchen, is not only personable but she answers questions quickly and working with her was great.

My Cake Paperie CakeDori retails for $28.00 and is completely handmade.  This fabric dori was a perfect choice for me as it sports gold and black which are colors I truly love.  It’s only missing purple! 🙂  I ordered the Large Dori which is 8.5″ x 5.5″ and will fit the large sized Moleskin Cahier Journal.  Without additional inserts, I can fit a total of 6 books comfortably in this notebook and they will stay in place without any overhang.  The traveler’s notebook is adorned with a gold elastic closure and a cute gold heart charm.

Each Cakedori comes in three sizes (upon availability) – Pocket, Regular and Large.  The pocket size is similar to that of the passport that you can get for Midori and the Regular would be that of the regular sized Midori Traveler’s notebook.  These notebooks are made of double sided fabric and are sturdy to hold your notebooks and inserts easily.  Each notebook is double edge stitched and has an inner stabilizer to keep your notebook sturdy so it will last a long time.  There are a variety of fabrics available in different prints so you are bound to find one that will fit your style and need.  The edges of the fabric will fray over time and continue to do so a bit – but it provides you the “lived in” look that traveler’s notebooks usually have.

Each notebook has a closure adorned with a cute charm.  The charms will vary slightly depending on what Gretchen has available but she does her best to provide equal or better than what is pictured.  On the inside of each notebook are two elastics.  Since they are stitched side by side instead of up and down like a normal notebook, you can easily hold six notebooks easily.  While each notebook only comes with two elastics, you can certainly request to add more.

  • Pocket size will hold up (6) 5.5×3.5 inch notebooks. $24.00
  • Regular size will hold up to (6) 8.5×4.5 inch notebooks. $26.00

Note – the traveler’s notebooks do not come with inserts or books on the inside.  I use Moleskine journals in mine and they fit perfectly

Shipping was fast and reasonably priced.  I didn’t get a chance to capture a photo of the bubble mailer, but it was a padded bubble mailer (a really pretty gold one) and packaged neatly and nice.  Inside the padded envelope was a cute paper package wrapped with twine.  My notebook was sent via USPS Priority mail and came with tracking and insurance for security purposes.  After it shipped, it took approximately 3 days to get to me.  If you are purchasing from another country, it will ship International First Class and in a padded mailer.

If you are looking to get into traveler’s notebooks or just want something cute to hold all your small notebooks or journals together, I think this would be a great find for you.  At the moment, my cakedori houses my brain dump notebook which is where I hold lists and ideas: wishlists, video and blog ideas, quick notes, etc., my mini/travel sketch and watercolor book and quotes, etc.  This book is something I carry with me which makes accessing things on the fly easy.  Many of my friends use their fauxdoris or traveler’s notebooks as their daily planners as well – so the options are endless.  When I get my leather traveler’s notebook (I’ll be sure to post when it arrives), I may be using it more as a daily planner – we shall see.
