Aaliyah Rock the Boat Makeup

I am a huge fan of Aaliyah… I have been since she first came out back in the early 90s.  I rocked out my baggy pants, overalls and Timbalands as well as my dark burgundy lips (Revlon’s Black Cherry).  Back then I was a mere 125 lbs and could pull it off – now, well… let’s just say I won’t be exposing my tummy any time soon. lol  Since today is Friday and I have a love for older music, movies and more – I’m taking inspiration from some of my favorite Artists and Actresses and will be recreating some of their looks they have done in the past in a Series on my Blog and YouTube Channel I have named… “Flash Back Friday”.  While I won’t be doing this every Friday – I hope to have one look up at least once a month.  I hope you enjoy.  Check out my recreation and inspired look of the makeup from Aaliyah in Rock the Boat.

Aaliyah Rock the Boat

Aaliyah “baby girl” Haughton became an Angel in 2001 along with 8 others after a plane crash that no one expected.  I chose to recreate this look because not only is she one of my Favorite Artists, but it shows us that life is never guaranteed and tomorrow is never promised.  There are two looks that she sports in the Rock the Boat music video which was the last video she filmed prior to her untimely death and she was leaving the location while filming.  In the video she rocks out a gold look (the one on the beach) as well as a blue look.  I chose the gold.  Check out my tutorial below or watch it directly on YouTube and all the products used are listed below as well.  Thank you for watching!

I’m a huge drugstore beauty product lover… and if I’m near a drugstore, I will stop by the cosmetic section to scope it out and see if there are any sales.  Lately, I’ll admit that I have been better at this addiction and haven’t been looking quite as often… but it still happens. lol While many of my drugstore favorites remain the same, I’ve added a few new ones to the bunch of goodies I call my Top 10 Drugstore Beauty Products.  Check it out!Top 10 Drugstore Beauty Products 2014

Check out my video below where I talk about each product or click here to watch directly on YouTube.

1.  Wet n Wild Color Icon Palettes – These are available in 8 Pan Palettes, 6 Pan Palettes (if you can still find them), 5 Pan Palettes (new releases) and Trios.  They come in a variety of sheens and textures and include a huge array of shades.  Eyeshadows included are pigmented and offer pretty awesome quality considering they are one of the most affordable drugstore palettes you will find and one of the best.  Price ranges between $2.99 – $5.00

2.  Milani Baked Blushes – I have been a huge fan of these for a few years now and some of my favorites include Luminoso and Bella Rosa (matte).  You can find these anywhere that sells Milani or via their website.  They average about $5.99 – $7.00 depending on where you can find them.

3.  NYX Butter Glosses – this is a recent love.  I love the texture, the feel on the lips, the pigmentation and the scent but most of all the price tag.  You can find these for about $5.00 and they are sold anywhere NYX is or via Ulta.com or NYXCosmetics.com.

4.  Milani Brilliant Shine Lip Glosses – another recent addition to my top list.  These glosses have nice pigmentation, feel great on the lips and are not that sticky but offer pretty nice staying power for a gloss.  Averaging $6.00 each and with a nice selection of shades, they are easily collectible and becoming a staple.

5.  Milani Color Statement Lipsticks – these are HG (Holy Grail) lipsticks for me.  They smell yummy, feel awesome on the lips, leave my puckers moisturized and have pretty good staying power.  Did I mention pigmentation was awesome?  I am impressed and I’m glad Milani fixed their formulation.  I wasn’t a fan of the original but love love the Color Statement line.  These run about $5.50 – $6.00.

6.  Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks – Available in Cream, Matte, Pearl and more… these Lipsticks offer a wide variety of finishes and textures.  I seriously love them and have been collecting them for quite a while.  Pink Pout happens to be my favorite – but hey, I don’t discriminate. lol  You can find these for about $5 – 8 depending on where you go.

7.  Jordana BOLD Fabuliner, Original Fabuliner and the Jordana 12 Hour Made to Last Liquid Eye Liners – When it comes to drug store eye liners, these are not only affordable but what I grab for when I need to replace one of my high end brands.  They are easy to use, offer awesome pigmentation and on me have great lasting power.  I’m not only impressed but love the fact that all three of these can easily be purchased for about $6.00 total – not each, but all together if you wanted all three.  Jordana can be found at select CVS stores, Kmart and Walgreens.  Oh… and since they are all eyeliners and from the same brand, I figured they would fit into one category. lol

8.  Jordana Best Volume Extreme Mascara – I didn’t think I would like this mascara because I have the smallest lashes EVER and the brush on this thing is huge… but I am so impressed with the curl my lashes hold as well as how well they volumize and get each and every little lash to show.  This mascara is one of the newer ones, I hear great things about the original – which I’m gonna be picking up to try soon… but you can’t go wrong with a $3.00 – $4.00 mascara that works and is awesome.

9.  Maybelline Color Tattoos – I have a good selection of these but this is one item I am constantly looking at when I visit the drug store.  “Are there any new shades?  Is it on sale?  Can I pick up a new one?”  I love the variety of shades, the way the feel, the pigmentation… you name it – they are pretty awesome in my book.  They range between $5.00 and $10.00 where I live and can be found pretty much at any drugstore you go.  Use them as a wash of color on your eyes or as a base for your favorite shadows, I highly recommend these to anyone who hasn’t tried them yet.

10.  EOS (evolution of smooth) Lip Spheres – Come on now… if you know me and you didn’t see this on my list, then I must have found another favorite because these have been faves of mine for years already.  I have a stash of like 9 of them in a cute little vase I keep near my makeup stuff and I have at least one in my purse.  They are about $2.99 – $4.00 depending on where you go and come in a variety of flavors.  The only thing I wish they had was a tint… that would make these even better than they already are.  They moisturize my lips, taste really nice (great for kissing – lol) and I especially love that they come in cute packaging.  They are not so much pocket friendly – but I love them nonetheless.  Passion Fruit is my favorite and after that… the mint and Strawberry.

So what are your favorite drug store beauty and makeup products?  Are there any on my list that make your cut?

Happy Easter Love Bugs.  I hope you all had a great and fun filled day.  I was quite excited today because my husband was able to get the day off, so we got to spend the day together as a family… Yay Us!  I figured I would share with you the makeup I rocked out today as well as a few photos from our day.  Read more to find out my Easter FOTD.

Easter FOTD

My choice of makeup today was super simple because I wanted a soft sweet look for Easter.  I only had my phone on me so all my photos were taken using my Note 2.  I am truly terrible at taking pictures of my makeup looks on a consistent basis, so I’m working on making it a point to take photos of my looks – even if only with my phone to post.  I used the following products:

Easter FOTD Products

I like to be festive for the Holidays so I pulled out my trusty bunny ears (had these for about 5 years now) and earlier in the day I dressed in a bright yellow dress.  I figured my eye makeup was perfect for the day since it was wearable but still offered a statement.

Easter 2014 FOTD

Of course, no Easter look is complete without a flower crown on your head.  I thought it was very “spring” and I got a lot of compliments on it.  Easter was a lot of fun and I enjoyed dressing up.

Easter Sunday 2014

My parents came up to spend time with the boys and I was able to get a quick camera opp with my sissy – who came up to spend a little time with us too.  The boys got to find eggs two times today, since we spend the day with both my side of the family and then later in the day with my hubby’s.  I am so lucky to be able to have these opportunities with my family – because we know that moments like this are never guaranteed and we need to really enjoy them and take advantage of them when we have them.  I’m truly blessed and had a great day.

I hope you all had a fabulous and wonderful day.  Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate it and those who do not – I wish you a fabulous Sunday!

A few months ago I posted a review with swatches on four of the new NYX Butter Lipsticks in Razzle, Hot Tamale, Big Cherry and Pops.  Since I loved them so much, I decided to pick up a few more and placed an order on NYX’s website for Fizzies, Cotton Candy, Hubba Bubba, Hunk and Bit of Honey.  After using these the last couple of months, I decided I would do some swatches in case anyone was interested in the shades I purchased… especially since when I ordered them, I expected them to be a bit different then how they arrived.  Some of the shades were much lighter and darker than I had expected.

NYX Butter Lipsticks

The butter lipsticks retail for $6.00 on NYX’s website and come in 22 shades.  Just like I stated in my first review, the NYX Butter Lipsticks feel great on the lips and are moisturizing.  But I think some of these shades feel a bit different on the lips and when it comes to coverage, the lighter shades seem to sink into the lines of my lips unlike the original four colors I tried out.

NYX Butter Lipsticks Swatches

In the swatch photo above, you can see that Hubba Bubba has a slight frost to it – since it does have a light amount of shimmer in the lipstick.  Because of this, I was a little disappointed at how my lips looked when I used this shade and I do not use it often.  On the website – Cotton Candy and Hubba Bubba lend for a more wearable shade so I was surprised to see it so Barbie Pink when they arrived.  I do like Fizzies, though it is not a shade I will use often – it does match my skin tone and Hunk and Bit of Honey are also ones I enjoy too.

NYX Butter Lipstick Swatches

Have you tried the NYX Butter lipsticks?  While I do love some of these new ones I received, I think the only favorites out of this bunch would be Hunk and Fizzies.  The others just seem too white for me to wear on its own… but hey, that is what gloss and liner is for.  I’ll still find a way to make it work.  If you want to see swatches on the other Butter lipsticks I reviewed – don’t forget to click here.  If you tried any of these lipsticks and have favorites – please comment below and let me know, I would love to check them out and see if they will match me.

Have a wonderful week!

Trying out face products is always an interesting task for me… mainly because I do not use Foundation, Face Primer, BB or CC Creams due to my Eczema.  But I am always interested in learning about new products and who knows, I may come across a product that actually helps my skin condition instead of making it worst.  Recently I had the opportunity to test out the Studio Gear Hydrating CC Color Correcting Cream and here are my thoughts on this product.

Studio Gear CC CreamStudio Gear Hydrating CC Color Correcting Cream retails on Studio Gears site for $34.00 and includes 1.1 FL OZ (33 ML) of product.  I received the color Natural, but this particular product comes in 3 different shades – Linen, Natural and Wheat.  It includes an SPF of 20 and can be used over moisturizer or by itself and you can wear it beneath your foundation or alone.  Since I do not use Foundation products – I chose to wear this product on its own without Foundation or Concealer over.

Hydrating CC Cream transforms and enhances your complexion in an incredibly light, smooth formula. This foundation simultaneously fights aging, retains moisture, and covers and treats blemishes with a non-oily, perfectly radiant finish.

Key Benefits:

  • Protects:  SPF 20 protects the skin, while Hydra-Extend technology provides moisture for up to 72 hours.
  • Perfects:  Enjoy natural looking coverage while micro-encapsulated pigments perfects and fade dark spots and acne scarring.
  • Corrects:  Anti-aging and collagen building ingredients help minimize fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Hydrates:  Hydra-Extend technology provides up to 72 hours of continuous hydration.
  • Conceals:  Micro encapsulated pigments deliver a fresh dose of color that adapts to your own skin tone, creating the most natural looking coverage.
  • Smoothes:  Skin nourishing ingredients help to correct and maintain youthful complexion.

Studio Gear CC Cream Before

The photo above shows me without the product on my face.  As you can see I do have a little bit of discoloration near my mouth (due to past extreme Eczema flare ups), but for the most part, my face is in pretty good shape.  I applied the CC Cream directly onto my face using my finger tips.  From the swatches below – the cream actually comes out of the tube looking white.  When taking a closer look at the cream you will see that it has little specks of color that become much more visible as you rub and blend the cream in.  Once the cream is blended it turns into the shade you selected.

Studio Gear CC Cream Swatch

I have a warm skin tone, so cool toned products tend to stand out against my skin even if the shade match is on point.  However, I did love that when blended – it did match my skin fairly well.  I love how this product evened out my skin tone and provided me with a little bit of coverage in the areas that I had some acne scarring from years ago as well as my Eczema issues.  The CC Cream did lighten my face up a bit so if I were to use this consistently, I would definitely have to bronze and contour to warm up the look of my face.  I do love how even under flash from my camera – it did not lend for a heavy white cast that most face products with SPF do to me.

Studio Gear CC Cream After

I have dry skin so I use moisturizer day and night to keep from my Eczema flaring up.  This product did not compete with my moisturizer or cause my skin to be oily, however – it did lend for an almost dewy finish on my face immediately after application.  Once the product dried (a couple of minutes after) the cream felt really nice on my skin and comfortable – I did not feel as dewy and definitely not oily.  My face felt moisturized through the day and not oily at all.  Since I do not use face products like this I did have a little break out on my chin and one beneath my nose after using the product, but I attest it to the fact that my skin is not used to these products on my face any longer.

INGREDIENTS:

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: PURPOSE

INACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Water (Aqua), Dimethicone, Glycerin, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Saccharide Isomerate, Rose Extract, Tocopherol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Aluminum Hydroxide, Boron Nitride, Acrylates/Ammonium Methacrylate Copolymer, Triethyl Citrate, Dextrin Palmitate, Sodium Chloride, Nylon-12 Octyldodecyl Neopentanoate, Squalane, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Phytosteryl/Isostearyl/Cetyl/Stearyl/Behenyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Dimethylmethoxy Chromanyl Palmitate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Lysine, Magnesium Chloride, Palmitic Acid Benzimidazole Diamond Amidoethyl Urea Carbamoyl Propyl Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Acrylates Crosspolymer, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Xanthan Gum, Stearic Acid, Ethanol, Lecithin, Sodium, Hyaluronate, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Methicone, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Zinc Chloride, Disodium EDTA, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, May Contain (+/-), Mica, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891)

Overall I am pretty impressed with this product.  There are several BB Creams on the market that I have tried before and they really leave my face looking ghostly in photographs or super oily and looking like a disco ball and this one didn’t do that.  If I were to use Face Products consistently, I think this would be one I would continue to use.
