Nail care

I’ve been told time and time again that I have beautiful long hair and while my hair grows quickly and my hair is long, it sheds A LOT.  After having my twins almost 7 years ago, I found that my hair really took a beating from the rough pregnancy I experienced.  Over the years I have shed a lot of hair and while my hair grows well and grows quickly, it needed something that would really just give it a little extra love and sprinkle some magical fairy dust to get it back to what it used to be.  I take all kinds of supplements and over the years I have taken specific ones for hair strengthening that included Biotin.  I have enjoyed them all – but this one I’ll be talking about today, well – I can honestly say… it’s definitely my favorite tasting.  Today I introduce you to the NeoCell Biotin Bursts, a gourmet biotin soft chew that the perfect dietary supplement for those who are looking for a different way to get their daily Biotin.

Now, let’s be honest here for a minute… I was immediately drawn to this product because of its packaging… hello – it’s purple.  But, honestly after having tried other products from NeoCell, I knew that I would enjoy these.  You can read about other reviews I posted on products from NeoCell here and here.  These Biotin Bursts are the perfect soft chew for a daily supplement of Biotin which is perfect for hair, skin and nail health and they taste absolutely delicious.

I am all about taking care of your skin and hair so it’s really nice to find a product that can help with both.  The NeoCell Biotin Bursts deliver high absorption beauty nutrients in delicious chews.  Since Biotin is an important B Vitamin that promotes healthy hair, skin and nails as well as energy support – you’ll get great benefit with this product.  The high potency formula supports the metabolism of proteins in the body creating natural energy, luxurious hair, resilient nails and vibrant skin.  The fact that this product has Acai Berry added for antioxidant support and protection from free radical damage is a huge plus.

The Biotin Bursts are soy, wheat, lactose, palm oil, yeast and artificial flavor free.  It is Gluten Free!  You basically take one chew daily and let the product do the work.  I take so many different types of medicines due to different health ailments and I certainly am not a fan of taking an additional pill to help with the strength of my hair, so I love that I can have a chew that taste great.  I did mention that before, right?  It really does taste great.  My husband has been taking these with me and we have really enjoyed it.

Each Biotin Burst is individually wrapped and like I mentioned before, you need only take one chew daily.  They taste like a berry chew and don’t have any chalky or weird after taste at all.  If you are a fan of Acai berry or strawberry and blueberry mix, I think you’ll enjoy the flavors of these because it reminds me of a combination of those flavors.  With 10,000 MCG of Biotin you get enough of that hair and nail supplement for daily intake.  I just love that it’s so easy to take without any funky flavor, pills to swallow or yuck!

Over the last couple of months of taking this supplement, I have noticed that my hair is stronger and tangles a lot less.  There is less breakage and shedding which is something I notice immediately because my hair naturally sheds a lot.  In combination with some of my favorite hair products, I have noticed that my hair has really improved and over the last couple of months.  Summer takes a beating on my hair and leaves it dry and brittle and I noticed with the use of the Biotin Bursts along with my other hair care faves, my hair seems to handle the Hawaii heat nicely.

NeoCell’s Biotin Bursts can be found at a variety of retailers like Vitamin World, Whole Foods & GNC.  I love the convenience of shopping online, but I love that I can find products I enjoy in a store near me so I don’t have to worry about running out and waiting on a shipment.  So it’s convenient to pick up at my local stores like Whole Foods.  The retail for about $13 for a 30 day supply which is an awesome price!  You can learn more about the product or find a location and retailer near you on their website here: http://www.neocell.com

Have you tried anything from NeoCell before?  If so, what have you tried and what are your thoughts?  If not, is this something you think you would be interested in checking out?

Beauty trends are something that are constantly changing and evolving and sometimes – we even throwback to fun trends and ideas from our past that are timeless.  When it comes to trends, I absolutely love trying the new ones when they make their way to the spotlight and test them for myself to see what the hype is all about.  One that has made its way to different beauty outlets and brands is the “spray on nail polish” trend.  Using a polish in a spray can (similar to spray paint), the concept is to spray the nail polish onto your nails for a quick and easy manicure.  I was immediately taken by this concept – being a mother and knowing that waiting for a coat of polish to dry is literally like watching paint do the same, so I definitely thought it was cool.  There are several brands out there that offer similar products, so when Spray Perfect sent over a few for me to try, I was excited to give it a go.

Spray Perfect retails for $19.99 (an additional shipping & processing fee of $4.95).  The website states they are having a special “Double Offer” which gives you a choice of 2 colors + 1 Base/Top Coat.  If you purchase outside of their “Double Offer” then they are regularly priced for $19.99 each.  Spray Perfect offers 7 shades – Racy Red, Sexy Silver, Naked Nude, Party Pink, Passion Purple, Whimsical White and Black Beauty.  I received Sexy Silver and Naked Nude as the colors to try out.

Note:  For my Hawaii readers – Spray Perfect’s website states they can only offer Continental US shipping only.  Since we are used to these types of situations, it’s probably because of the flammable shipping.

Sleek packaging reminiscent of a spray can, the concept is simple and easy to grasp and use.  Using the product is also quite simple and I really like the ease of use.  It’s as easy as using a base coat to apply to the nails, then spraying your polish color of choice and topping with the top coat (which happens to be the base coat too).  Spray Perfect says they offer the world’s fastest manicure that dries in under a minute.  It’s new technology offers color that only adheres to nails and washes easily from your skin.  You get quick, complete coverage on your nails & only your nails.  With a little rubbing to remove the excess polish from your skin, you are going to save money and stop going to the salon for a mani that’s quick and easy.

So let’s chit chat a bit about the process.  The first time I used the products, doing so was really easy and the directions were easy to follow.  I painted my nails with the base coat / top coat and allowed them to dry.  It states on the bottle not to “blow on your nails” to help them dry but let them dry naturally.  That was easy to follow.  Once the base coat dries, spray your nails the desired color.

Spraying my nails was quite easy.  The nozzle was easy to press and the bottle is small enough to still offer you good control using both your left and right hand regardless of whichever is the dominant one.  I was quite impressed with the overall feel with the product while I used it.  I opted to spray my nails with two coats to make sure the color was bold enough for me to see.  Immediately after spraying my left hand, I realized that the color really does stick well to the parts where I painted with base coat and it started to lightly flake off or rub off on the other parts of my fingers.  But, after one coat and then spraying the second coat, I could tell that the colors were not the same as the swatch on the bottles.  Each color – the Naked Nude & Sexy Silver were different in shade than the swatch portrayed on the bottle as well as the swatches on the website page.

The silver really reminded me of a spray paint type of texture and applied unevenly – whether with one or two coats.  I tried it with three coats, but it didn’t seem to fix the issue so I assumed it was just the formulation of the color.  The nude one seemed to apply much more evenly, though, each one definitely had a rough or matte like (like spray paint) texture on the nails before I applied the Top Coat.  Once the Top coat was applied, it seemed to leave an even texture with a glossy finish.  You could still see any patchy places that the paint did not apply well, but it wasn’t bad.

After spraying the two coats of each color, I let it dry a few minutes and then painted with the top coat.  I didn’t clean up my fingers from the over spray till after the top coat dried completely.  The total process from base coat, to two coats of color and the top coat took about 15 minutes.  But, I liked that each of the polishes and base/top coat dried fairly quickly.  Once it dried, about two minutes each layer, I moved onto the next layer and once the top coat dried – about 2 minutes after painting the last nail with the top coat, my nails seemed like they were dried well and I could be on my way if I wanted to.

Washing off and removing the over spray on my fingers was really easy.  I simply washed my hands and with a little rubbing (literally), I was able to get off the over spray and my manicure was good to go.  Any place on my nails that did not have the base and top coat were left clean.  The entire process, while there were some extra steps than a traditional manicure, went by fairly easy.

Now – let’s talk about the longevity of the manicure.  I wash dishes several times a day and I’m pretty brutal on my hands.  I actually liked the fact that they didn’t chip in the first 24 hours like many nail polishes can do, depending on the top coat.  But, it did chip on me by the end of the 2nd day – not dramatically, but I noticed it.  I don’t think anyone would have really noticed it unless I showed them, but I noticed it when it did chip.

spray perfect, does it work, nails, nail polish, spray perfect spray on nail polish, spray on nail polish, manicure, review, beauty review, beauty,

Besides washing off the excess polish and over spray, I didn’t really need to do much clean up.  I didn’t go through and clean up any edges of the polish so you could see how much of it was covered and how much was removed.  Taking off the nail polish to change colors was easy!  It removed with my basic nail polish remover without any issues.  Acetone remover or non-acetone, it didn’t matter, both removed them easily and without any issues.

Oh – one note I forgot to add… it smells like a nail polish and spray paint blend, so this is something you definitely want to do in a well ventilated area.  I also suggest protecting your furnishings because the over spray can definitely stain other things.

spray perfect, does it work, nails, nail polish, spray perfect spray on nail polish, spray on nail polish, manicure, review, beauty review, beauty,

Overall – I think the concept is definitely fun.  It’s convenient and while the process is lengthy, I really loved the drying time on the top coat and the polish.  Right after putting the top coat on and it drying, I was able to wash dishes and fold clothes without any smudging – it was completely dry.  Because of this, I think this would be a nice option for a night out or something where you could devote 15 minutes to a nice manicure but have it ready to go for a night out.  It’s costly however, if you don’t get the deal – then you are looking at spending $20 for a spray on polish which requires the base/top coat to get the job done.  Like with all things, I think it really is up to the user and it could be something fun and useful for anyone that likes this kind of stuff.  The concept is cool and definitely interesting.  Would I buy it or purchase another color?  Hmmm… I think I would if it shipped to Hawaii or if I was able to get the Double deal.  It’s definitely something fun for a sleepover or a night out where you need a nice manicure that sets in a short amount of time.  I think that it’s fun to check out, but I would only do so with a good deal, otherwise, it’s something I would pass on.  It’s a bit pricey for just one bottle on its own.

Rainbow Honey Summer Mixtape

I received three colors from the collection and I wanted to share them with all of you.  Of course, the full size bottles come in the signature Rainbow Honey packaging (which I absolutely love).

Rainbow Honey MixTape

Left to Right:  Control, Work It Out and Elevate.

Rainbow Honey Control

Control is a shimmering fuchsia that is almost neon and is a great statement shade for summer or year round.  If you love hot pinks, this will surely be an awesome shade to add to your collection.

Rainbow Honey Work It Out

Work it Out is a creme coral that is another perfect summer staple.  This shade can be used alone or topped with your favorite statement glitter.

Rainbow Honey Elevate

Elevate is a glitter that includes a blend of blues, turquoise and other shades like green, yellow, pink and white.  This glitter is pretty cool in that it looks like confetti on the nails, and offers a variety of glitter shapes from micro glitter to hexes and circles and so much more.  Every time I think I have nailed down all the glitter in this bottle, I find another I didn’t see before. lol

Rainbow Honey MixTape Swatches

Each swatch was done on my nail wheel and each color was done in two coats.  The more coats you apply, the deeper Control and Work It Out become in shade.  I apologize for the nail wheel swatches, but as I do nail looks using these shades, I’ll definitely post them here.  Overall I think these shades are gorgeous.  Rainbow Honey is really great at creating a selection of colors.  For the price point of each, you are not only supporting a great brand, but getting awesome product.  I already have my eyes on I Wanna Get Better, Waves, One Minute More, and Lanterns.  The list goes on, but I am surely lovely them all regardless.

Want to check out Rainbow Honey and see all they have to offer?  Use promo code MIXTAPE20 to receive 20% off your next order.  Promo code expires on 8/31/2014 to take advantage of it while you can.  You can check out what Rainbow Honey has to offer on their site: rainbowhoney.com

I haven’t done much nail art in what seems like forever… and even if I did do nail art before, what I can do is pretty limited to a small amount of creativity. lol  Watercolor nails are fun to do and a technique I have always loved.  Yesterday while getting ready to paint my nails, I was stumped as to what nail polish I wanted to choose… so I ended up choosing them all.  Now – I’m not “nail art” designer… and I’m constantly learning new techniques if I have the chance, but I always love how these turn out and since it’s summer – I know I’ll be having some fun with my nail polish utilizing this technique.water color nails

To create this nail look I started off with Rainbow Honey’s All Your Base as my base coat and then topped Zoya’s Adel over that – using two coats so that it was a bit more opaque then one coat would offer.  I then took Zoya’s Perrie and dropped a few drops of polish on each nail.  To create the marbleized / water color look, I dipped my nail brush into my nail polish remover and painted over Perrie (the purple shade) so that it kind of mixed in and blended in till I wanted it to be.  Then I dropped on Wet n Wild’s I need a Refresh-mint over the purple, doing the same technique with the nail brush and nail polish remover.  Once I finished with that – I then did the same technique with Cameo from Rainbow Honey.  Once I got it to the look I wanted, I topped my nails with Ciate’s Speed Coat Pro fast dry top coat and let my nails dry.

I will be having a nail polish tutorial coming up with this design on my YouTube channel  It is much easier than people think it is and faster too.

If you are looking for ways to add a little color to your nails but certain colors may not mesh well with your skin tone or your liking, this is also a great way to be able to use those colors.

Hope you enjoyed this nail look for the week!

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I don’t know how many times I have mentioned here on my blog that my skin is dry and sensitive and I struggle with severe eczema when I have flare ups.  As difficult as it is to find products that will not cause my skin to go crazy on me, it’s a breath of fresh air when I finally do.  I have been using 100% Pure Organic, Raw Unrefined Coconut Oil but since I buy it in bulk, it is difficult to travel with or pack in my purse on days when I need the extra hydration.  While I am not necessarily a “huge” fan of Argan Oil, I have found that it has been a great friend when I need something in place of my holy grail coconut oil.  The Pure Organic Argan Oil from BebeLush has been a favorite of mine over the last month and here’s why.

100% Argan Oil BebeLush

I have used quite a bit of different Argan Oils over the last couple of years, seeing as it offers a wide variety of benefits for most people.  While I truly enjoy the benefits it offers, Argan Oil is usually a difficult one for me to use because it causes my skin to have minor blemishes and break outs around my hair line (when applying to my hair) as well as on my face.  After years of taking my skin from what it was in 2011 to what it is now, I was ready to put this Argan Oil to the test to find out if it would offer me great skin benefits or cause my skin to go crazy again.

BebeLush Claims of the product:

  • Suffering from dry skin and frizzy, unmanageable hair stops today, when you invest in this 100% pure, certified organic, cold-pressed virgin Argan oil from Morocco. It’s the perfect gift for yourself, and you deserve it. Also great gift for family and friends.
  • Start enjoying baby soft skin when you use with this non-greasy oil and prepare to enjoy the compliments coming your way, as those around you will see immediate effects of this secret liquid gold. Excellent skin moisturizer, minimizes fine lines and wrinkles, soothes eczema prone skin, calms itchy dry spots and restores sun damaged skin.
  • Say good bye to frizzy, tangled, unmanageable hair, and hello to healthy, shiny, glowing tresses. This Argan oil helps prevent split ends, is a natural leave-in conditioner, adds natural shine, and is fast absorbing, leaving your hair silky and healthy.

100% Argan Oil BebeLush

This Argan Oil is sold by BebeLush on Amazon.com for $35.00 (originally $74.95) for a dropper bottle with 120 ml (4 fl.oz) of product.  The product has a shelf life of 3 years and what I love about the label is that it states when the product was manufactured as well as the Lot Number which allows you to track the product you are using.  I have a ton of different Argan Oils and I love that this product is universal and versatile so it can be used pretty much anywhere and everywhere on the body (face, hair, skin and nails).

This particular Argan oil is quickly absorbed into the skin and hair and does not leave a greasy residue.  While Argan Oils can be pretty strong in scent, this one is not as bad as others I have smelled before and while there is still a scent, it is not as overpowering or strong as I thought it would be.

Pure Organic Argan Oil BebeLush

The oil has a light (almost amber) color to it and is not as thick as other Argan oils I have used in the past.  A little goes a long way – especially if you are using this product on your face.  While I do not necessarily have this product to use on my hair, I did test it out a few times and it works nicely on my hair as well – no break outs on my hair line.  My skin stays hydrated and I love that the bottle is very convenient to throw in my purse for when I’m out and about and unable to take my coconut oil with me.

Pure Organic Argan Oil BebeLush

Overall I’m pretty impressed with the product itself and it has already become a favorite of mine for the month of May.  At the amount of product you receive in each bottle, this product will last you and since it has a variety of uses, it’s well worth the money in my opinion. If you have dry skin as I do, I think you will find that this product helps to hydrate your skin a lot without leaving it feeling like it was rubbed down with oil – which I like a lot.  I have been using this oil on my cuticles as well which tends to be very dry during the summer months and especially since I am full time dishwasher in our house.  If you love Argan Oil I think you will find this particular one to work really well.  While I only used the Argan oil on my hair a few times it did exactly as my other oils have done, hydrated my hair and left my ends moisturized and my hair full of life.  I think this is definitely a product I will continue to use.

I haven’t posted any nail looks this whole month because I cut my nails really short and wanted to wait for them to grow out a little before I went plastering them all over my blog. lol  Now that they have a little length – I figure I would grace my site with its presence once again. lol  This month I have been loving my new Zoya nail polishes that I hauled.  They are super gorgeous and definitely polish shades that I know I’ll gravitate to pretty often.

Diamond Sparkle Nails of the Week feat. Zoya

On my nails I am using the following polishes:

Zoya Rue (main nail color) – can be purchased on Zoya.com

Zoya Tomoko Pixie Dust Textured polish (accent nail) – can be purchased at Zoya.com

I do have my eyes on another Zoya Pixie – their new Magical Pixie in Cosmo, I’m adding that to my list to get it next.  If you know anything about me, it is that I love glitter and sparkle and let me just say… woohoo – I’m loving it!

Zoya Tomoko and Rue NOTW

So I’ll chit chat a little about the colors I have on my nails – a mini review so to say.

Rue is a nude pink toned nail polish that is opaque.  While I did do two coats for this look (I normally do regardless), it still has near full coverage after the first coat.  It is a cool toned cream and has a slight pearl sheen to it.  I love it and if you are a nude pink polish lover, I think you’ll love this shade.  The wear on this shade is really nice.  I have been  using it all month and it will take me a full week with washing dishes several times a day before I get any chipping.  Of course, I’m using it over a base and have a top coat – but I enjoy the wear and drying is fairly quick as well.

Tomoko is one of the Pixie Dust textured polishes.  It is a silver tone that looks almost like crushed diamonds because it does lend for a nice sparkle in certain lighting.  It is just about full coverage in one coat but I apply two coats over a base.  Wear for this polish and other textures from Zoya is fairly long for me and it can be a bit tricky to remove.  I tend to use the “soaked cotton ball” method to remove otherwise it can be a pain.  I haven’t had any trouble with chipping.  If you love silver polishes but are looking to switch it up a bit – I would surely give this a try, it’s gorgeous.

So, have you tried Zoya polishes before?  What are your favorites?

Everyone knows that IDK from China Glaze is quite possibly one of my most favorite  nail polishes – EVER.  I have a huge love for purple… and have my fair share of purple polishes, but this one just catches my fancy and it’s been a favorite of mine for quite a few years.

I have tried quite a bit of color combination and design combinations with IDK, but never really anything with black or white I am ashamed to say.  After picking up my Maybelline Clear Spotted Polka Dot polish from the Color Collection… I decided that I wanted to really do something fun with it.  This nail polish look was quick and I did enjoy doing it.  It’s fun and definitely something I will rock in different colors using the same type of design.
