Beauty trends are something that are constantly changing and evolving and sometimes – we even throwback to fun trends and ideas from our past that are timeless. When it comes to trends, I absolutely love trying the new ones when they make their way to the spotlight and test them for myself to see what the hype is all about. One that has made its way to different beauty outlets and brands is the “spray on nail polish” trend. Using a polish in a spray can (similar to spray paint), the concept is to spray the nail polish onto your nails for a quick and easy manicure. I was immediately taken by this concept – being a mother and knowing that waiting for a coat of polish to dry is literally like watching paint do the same, so I definitely thought it was cool. There are several brands out there that offer similar products, so when Spray Perfect sent over a few for me to try, I was excited to give it a go.
Spray Perfect retails for $19.99 (an additional shipping & processing fee of $4.95). The website states they are having a special “Double Offer” which gives you a choice of 2 colors + 1 Base/Top Coat. If you purchase outside of their “Double Offer” then they are regularly priced for $19.99 each. Spray Perfect offers 7 shades – Racy Red, Sexy Silver, Naked Nude, Party Pink, Passion Purple, Whimsical White and Black Beauty. I received Sexy Silver and Naked Nude as the colors to try out.
Note: For my Hawaii readers – Spray Perfect’s website states they can only offer Continental US shipping only. Since we are used to these types of situations, it’s probably because of the flammable shipping.
Sleek packaging reminiscent of a spray can, the concept is simple and easy to grasp and use. Using the product is also quite simple and I really like the ease of use. It’s as easy as using a base coat to apply to the nails, then spraying your polish color of choice and topping with the top coat (which happens to be the base coat too). Spray Perfect says they offer the world’s fastest manicure that dries in under a minute. It’s new technology offers color that only adheres to nails and washes easily from your skin. You get quick, complete coverage on your nails & only your nails. With a little rubbing to remove the excess polish from your skin, you are going to save money and stop going to the salon for a mani that’s quick and easy.
So let’s chit chat a bit about the process. The first time I used the products, doing so was really easy and the directions were easy to follow. I painted my nails with the base coat / top coat and allowed them to dry. It states on the bottle not to “blow on your nails” to help them dry but let them dry naturally. That was easy to follow. Once the base coat dries, spray your nails the desired color.
Spraying my nails was quite easy. The nozzle was easy to press and the bottle is small enough to still offer you good control using both your left and right hand regardless of whichever is the dominant one. I was quite impressed with the overall feel with the product while I used it. I opted to spray my nails with two coats to make sure the color was bold enough for me to see. Immediately after spraying my left hand, I realized that the color really does stick well to the parts where I painted with base coat and it started to lightly flake off or rub off on the other parts of my fingers. But, after one coat and then spraying the second coat, I could tell that the colors were not the same as the swatch on the bottles. Each color – the Naked Nude & Sexy Silver were different in shade than the swatch portrayed on the bottle as well as the swatches on the website page.
The silver really reminded me of a spray paint type of texture and applied unevenly – whether with one or two coats. I tried it with three coats, but it didn’t seem to fix the issue so I assumed it was just the formulation of the color. The nude one seemed to apply much more evenly, though, each one definitely had a rough or matte like (like spray paint) texture on the nails before I applied the Top Coat. Once the Top coat was applied, it seemed to leave an even texture with a glossy finish. You could still see any patchy places that the paint did not apply well, but it wasn’t bad.
After spraying the two coats of each color, I let it dry a few minutes and then painted with the top coat. I didn’t clean up my fingers from the over spray till after the top coat dried completely. The total process from base coat, to two coats of color and the top coat took about 15 minutes. But, I liked that each of the polishes and base/top coat dried fairly quickly. Once it dried, about two minutes each layer, I moved onto the next layer and once the top coat dried – about 2 minutes after painting the last nail with the top coat, my nails seemed like they were dried well and I could be on my way if I wanted to.
Washing off and removing the over spray on my fingers was really easy. I simply washed my hands and with a little rubbing (literally), I was able to get off the over spray and my manicure was good to go. Any place on my nails that did not have the base and top coat were left clean. The entire process, while there were some extra steps than a traditional manicure, went by fairly easy.
Now – let’s talk about the longevity of the manicure. I wash dishes several times a day and I’m pretty brutal on my hands. I actually liked the fact that they didn’t chip in the first 24 hours like many nail polishes can do, depending on the top coat. But, it did chip on me by the end of the 2nd day – not dramatically, but I noticed it. I don’t think anyone would have really noticed it unless I showed them, but I noticed it when it did chip.
Besides washing off the excess polish and over spray, I didn’t really need to do much clean up. I didn’t go through and clean up any edges of the polish so you could see how much of it was covered and how much was removed. Taking off the nail polish to change colors was easy! It removed with my basic nail polish remover without any issues. Acetone remover or non-acetone, it didn’t matter, both removed them easily and without any issues.
Oh – one note I forgot to add… it smells like a nail polish and spray paint blend, so this is something you definitely want to do in a well ventilated area. I also suggest protecting your furnishings because the over spray can definitely stain other things.
Overall – I think the concept is definitely fun. It’s convenient and while the process is lengthy, I really loved the drying time on the top coat and the polish. Right after putting the top coat on and it drying, I was able to wash dishes and fold clothes without any smudging – it was completely dry. Because of this, I think this would be a nice option for a night out or something where you could devote 15 minutes to a nice manicure but have it ready to go for a night out. It’s costly however, if you don’t get the deal – then you are looking at spending $20 for a spray on polish which requires the base/top coat to get the job done. Like with all things, I think it really is up to the user and it could be something fun and useful for anyone that likes this kind of stuff. The concept is cool and definitely interesting. Would I buy it or purchase another color? Hmmm… I think I would if it shipped to Hawaii or if I was able to get the Double deal. It’s definitely something fun for a sleepover or a night out where you need a nice manicure that sets in a short amount of time. I think that it’s fun to check out, but I would only do so with a good deal, otherwise, it’s something I would pass on. It’s a bit pricey for just one bottle on its own.
You can check out Spray Perfect for yourself and see if it’s something you may want to check out. Head on over to their website here: http://www.buysprayperfect.com/

I am a flakie nail polish addict and I absolutely love the effect they give any and all nail polishes. I had been swooning and drooling over some from ILNP, and finally took the plunge and picked two up that I knew I would love. After playing with them for a few days over different nail polish colors and sandwiching them between other shades, I finally found a mani look that has been absolutely fabulous. It looks like Confetti on my nails… I love it. So here are my nails of the week… so sparkly!
ILNP Supernova and Metropolis are layered and topped with KB Shimmers Prism Break for an extra cool effect of holo goodness. These polishes work so well on their own offering a cool chrome flakie look but with the added holo topper, they look pretty darn awesome.
I hope I can provide swatches of each polish separately in the coming weeks because ILNP now has these polishes back in stock and I definitely suggest scooping some up. If you love flakies and enjoy the look of crushed colors on your nails, I think anything from the Ultra Chrome Flakie line will make a great addition to your nail polish collection. If you are looking to add a little holographic goodness to your favorite nail polish that doesn’t have that, then definitely check out the KB Shimmer Top Coat in Prism Break.
Like I said before, I’ll have more coming your way to share soon. I am just diggin’ on these nails – they remind me of cellophane and confetti all wrapped up on my nails. Talk about nail porn! 😀

I am addicted to glitter and sparkle. Don’t get me wrong, I am the biggest tomboy you would have ever encountered, but there is something about a sprinkle of glitter that makes you feel like you can conquer the World. I know you agree, lol. Glitter flows through my veins and you can find it in a variety of things through out my beauty arsenal – including my nail polish stash. Today I bring to you gorgeous nail polishes by Alter Ego Nail Polish, an Indie brand.
Alter Ego offers glittery and sparkly nail polishes for any taste. Ranging in shades and affordable for your pocket book, these gorgeous goodies are favorites of celebrity manicurists and nail junkies because they only require one coat for complete coverage and dry to a semi-matte finish. These polishes are long lasting and I love that they give my nails a stronger feel. The shades are formaldehyde, toluene and DBP free, Vegan and never tested on animals. This cruelty free brand has certainly stolen my nail polish lovin’ heart.
Plumber is a gorgeous blue hued lavender with fuchsia and purple glitter. Vintner is a gorgeous glitter with a blend of hex and circle glitters. Colors include purple, green, pink and a soft purple hued mixture.
Row Her Boat is probably my favorite out of the four. We all know I love Purple and Teal and this one has gold in it… hello, major crush. This gorgeous shade has little gold sparkle in it that gives it a really nice effect whether with or without top coat.
Well Read is a pink toned red with micro silver shimmer. While this is not a shade I would gravitate to on my own, I really enjoyed using this shade and thought it was gorgeous. I definitely think this shade looks better with a top coat, but to each his own.
These gorgeous polishes can be found on Gloss48 and are sold in duos for $14.00 (currently on sale – retail $17.00). Pick the colors you want and have some fun with the finish of each one or add your top coat to give it that polished off look. I will admit that I never used a polish with this type of finish or texture before, but I really like how strong my nails felt with the lacquer on. My nails felt like I had a layer of gel coat and they were quite strong. I have my eyes on a few more shades and can’t wait to order them.
Have you tried or heard of Alter Ego Nail Enamels before? What is your favorite Indie Nail polish brand?

Oh my gosh… I can’t believe it’s Friday already. Today I have a short post for all of you… my nails for the weekend. I have been eyeing my Wet n Wild Disturbia now for a few weeks and wanted to create something with Sally Hansen’s Gilty Party. I just wasn’t sure how I wanted to incorporate the two. After seeing some of my blogger girlies post their nail stamping I thought it was finally time for me to blow the dust off my stamping kit and have some fun. So, here are my nails of the week.
For this nail look I am using Wet n Wild’s Disturbia as my base. Gilty Party from Sally Hansen was used as the stamping shade. And I’m using my Konad m63 plate to create the stamping design. For my top coat I am using Ciate’s Speed Dry Top Coat. As you can see I’m a bit out of practice as it has been probably a year or two since I pulled out my plates and kit, but I’m glad I did because I forgot how fun it really is.
Hope you are all having a fabulous Friday and sending you lots of hugs for a wonderful weekend.
I can’t believe how quickly summer flew by, it seems like just yesterday my eldest son was in the 4th grade and the twins were still home with me and now the house is super quiet during the day and it’s odd to say the least. With Fall coming about, I wanted to take the time to share with you a round up of my Summer Nail designs and manicures that I have been rocking out during the season. I’m doing this post and video in collaboration with my friend Beth (PearlznlacebyBethK) so be sure to head on over and check out her video and post as well.
My first manicure from this summer is from Sally Hansen in the color Gilty Party. This color is absolutely gorgeous and while it looks silver, it has micro shimmers that look almost burgundy pink so it really lends for an interesting shade.
July 8th, I decided I wanted to use a new polish I had just picked up and paired it with some glitter and sparkle. On my nails I’m using Sally Hansen’s Color Foil nail polish in Purple Aloy and my accent nail is topped with Rainbow Honey’s Stellar Treat. I am a huge fan of Rainbow Honey’s glitter polishes and these two lacquers together made a great statement.
July was all about simplicity in my nail designs and doing a water color styled look is simple and easy to create. Check out my tutorial here. I used a combination of Zoya and Milani’s new Color Statement Lacquers to create the look you see here. The base white is from Zoya in the color Adel (one of my favorite whites) and the rest of the shades are a combination of Milani and Zoya.
When I am unable to choose a color I want to use on my nails, I find that I paint them several different shades and just roll with it. In July I decided I wanted to test out a few shades from the new Milani Color Statement Lacquers that were recently rolled out. Since I couldn’t figure out which ones I wanted to wear more… it resulted in me doing a quick water marbling of my nails in different shades. Not the best look – but hey, it works. lol
Milani has seriously wowed me with their new collection and I’ve been loving the glitter polishes. For this look I’m using Milani’s Color Statement Lacquer in Bronze as my base shade and then accent nails are topped with Gilded Rocks and Club Lights.
My Galaxy Inspired nails were probably a favorite of all the nail looks I created this summer. I used a similar technique to my Water Color nails and you can find the tutorial for this nail look here. I am using all of Milani’s Color Statement Nail Lacquers to create this look. Lovely Amethyst as my base shade, Spotlight White, Bombshell, Mint Crush, Pearl-plexed Sheer and Rainbow Prisms.
This burgundy red nail look was done as a part of my Regina the Evil Queen look… I did my best to play up the part. lol (You can watch that tutorial for the inspired makeup look here.) I don’t normally rock out shades in this tone during the Summer months but needless to say you will be seeing this quite often in the fall months. I am using Milani’s Color Statement Lacquer in Enchanting.
I’m no professional when it comes to nail designs but I think I can pull off the basics pretty okay. For this nail look I wanted to do something fun and wanted to play off of some polka dots. As my base shade I am using Zoya’s Shay which is one of my all time favorite nudes. As my glitter accent nail I am using Zoya’s Cosmo Magic Pixie Polish topped with Ciate’s Speed Dry Top Coat so that it doesn’t have that 3D effect. For my polka dots and flowers I am using Milani’s Color Statement Lacquers in Spotlight White and Imperial purple. Super easy to create and fun to wear.
In this nail look I couldn’t make up my mind what I wanted to do. I am using Milani’s Vintage Lace Lacquer and Rainbow Prisms as the tip of my nails. For my accent nails I decided to do a quick water marble using Imperial Purple and Cupcake Icing all from Milani’s Color Statement Lacquer line.
In this manicure I wanted a nude look with a little sparkle. I am using Zoya’s Jules and topped it with Maybelline Color Show’s Diamond in the Rough.
So – those are my nail designs and manicures I rocked out for Summer this year. I am in no way a professional but really enjoy painting my nails to give me a little flirty flare. I don’t do my makeup with exception to maybe once each week, so I love to have my nails with some extra sparkle to keep it all exciting. Don’t forget to check out the video if you haven’t already. Wishing you all a wonderful last few days of your warm summer months. ~xo
Yay for New Releases! Recently I had the opportunity to test out and play with some new Rainbow Honey goodies that were just released with their Summer MixTape collection. This collection includes 12 new cremes, shimmers and glitters and they are all jaw dropping and gorgeous. This new collection (released July 18th) is now available for purchase on Rainbow Honey’s website and offers you a shade range you will be drooling over.
Summer Mixtape! is available as a complete collection in full size (15 ml each, $90 promotional price for the whole collection of 12 polishes) and mini (5 ml each, $45 promotional price – currently sold out). Each full size color is also available separately (15 ml) for just $10 each. Check out my reveal/video embedded below or click here to watch it directly on YouTube. Scroll down to see photos of the three shades I got.
I received three colors from the collection and I wanted to share them with all of you. Of course, the full size bottles come in the signature Rainbow Honey packaging (which I absolutely love).
Left to Right: Control, Work It Out and Elevate.
Control is a shimmering fuchsia that is almost neon and is a great statement shade for summer or year round. If you love hot pinks, this will surely be an awesome shade to add to your collection.
Work it Out is a creme coral that is another perfect summer staple. This shade can be used alone or topped with your favorite statement glitter.
Elevate is a glitter that includes a blend of blues, turquoise and other shades like green, yellow, pink and white. This glitter is pretty cool in that it looks like confetti on the nails, and offers a variety of glitter shapes from micro glitter to hexes and circles and so much more. Every time I think I have nailed down all the glitter in this bottle, I find another I didn’t see before. lol
Each swatch was done on my nail wheel and each color was done in two coats. The more coats you apply, the deeper Control and Work It Out become in shade. I apologize for the nail wheel swatches, but as I do nail looks using these shades, I’ll definitely post them here. Overall I think these shades are gorgeous. Rainbow Honey is really great at creating a selection of colors. For the price point of each, you are not only supporting a great brand, but getting awesome product. I already have my eyes on I Wanna Get Better, Waves, One Minute More, and Lanterns. The list goes on, but I am surely lovely them all regardless.

What happened to the week? It went by so quickly, I can’t believe the weekend is here already. This week I have a short list of favorites (thank goodness) and I wanted to share them with you all. I have some new goodies, since I have been trying out new products. I am loving them and I’m really excited to share my review with all of you once it is up. Stay tuned for that in the next week or so. So check out what made my Friday Favorites… are any of my favorites some of yours?
I haven’t done much nail art in what seems like forever… and even if I did do nail art before, what I can do is pretty limited to a small amount of creativity. lol Watercolor nails are fun to do and a technique I have always loved. Yesterday while getting ready to paint my nails, I was stumped as to what nail polish I wanted to choose… so I ended up choosing them all. Now – I’m not “nail art” designer… and I’m constantly learning new techniques if I have the chance, but I always love how these turn out and since it’s summer – I know I’ll be having some fun with my nail polish utilizing this technique.
To create this nail look I started off with Rainbow Honey’s All Your Base as my base coat and then topped Zoya’s Adel over that – using two coats so that it was a bit more opaque then one coat would offer. I then took Zoya’s Perrie and dropped a few drops of polish on each nail. To create the marbleized / water color look, I dipped my nail brush into my nail polish remover and painted over Perrie (the purple shade) so that it kind of mixed in and blended in till I wanted it to be. Then I dropped on Wet n Wild’s I need a Refresh-mint over the purple, doing the same technique with the nail brush and nail polish remover. Once I finished with that – I then did the same technique with Cameo from Rainbow Honey. Once I got it to the look I wanted, I topped my nails with Ciate’s Speed Coat Pro fast dry top coat and let my nails dry.
I will be having a nail polish tutorial coming up with this design on my YouTube channel It is much easier than people think it is and faster too.
Left to Right: Rainbow Honey All My Base – Base Coat, Zoya Adel (white), Zoya Perrie (purple), Wet n Wild Megalast polish I Need a Refresh-Mint (turquoise), Rainbow Honey Cameo (neon pink), Ciate Speed Coat Pro (top coat).
If you are looking for ways to add a little color to your nails but certain colors may not mesh well with your skin tone or your liking, this is also a great way to be able to use those colors.
Yay for Summer – but boo for how fast June went by. This month – I tried a few new products I have never used before and a few that I am loving that were already in my collection. Check out my video for all the details here:
I have a June Favorites for Kids video coming up as well… the boys are all gathering up their favorite kid items from the month so stay tuned for that. 😉 I know it’s been quite a while since I have featured kid favorites and I am working my way to making it a part of our routine every month. So stay tuned for that – everything from clothes and toys to food and activities.

I hope you had a wonderful June. The twins will be starting school on August 1st and my eldest goes back to school on that day as well. It’s bitter sweet for me but I’m so excited for them because they are excited to be going to school. Wishing you all a wonderful rest of your summer.
Spring time is one of my favorite times of year… not only for the beautiful weather and the gorgeous flora that grace us but also because I am a huge Sakura lover and look forward to Cherry Blossoms that bloom during that time. You don’t find Cherry Blossoms in Hawaii, not the original ones that you would find in Japan or in Washington D.C. – so I always look forward to reading about the annual Sakura Matsuri Festival or Hanami which takes place in Japan.
Recently, I had the opportunity to place an order with Rainbow Honey and immediately fell in love with the Sakura Matsuri Collection that is available for sale. After getting my hands on it – I knew that I wanted to use the Sakura Matsuri Namesake Glitter Polish in my look this week.
I used the following products to create my nail look that I’ll be rocking out this week:
Base – All Your Base from Rainbow Honey (part of the April Mystery Bag)
I have had this nail polish mani for a few days before I had the opportunity to take the photos, so that is why I have that little crack in my index finger. I thought this was a very cute combination and I think it will be one I will enjoy rocking out year long, but especially during this time when the Sakura are in bloom.
I am a purple addict! Yes – commit me if you must… but it is true and if you have been following my blog at all – you already know this. lol I have loved purple most of my life, though my mom said my favorite color when I was a little girl was brown – oi… brown. She said I colored everything in color books brown so she assumed it was my favorite. Nonetheless, I digress and moved on to bigger and better things. lol In this weeks mani I wanted to rock out a super simple nail look that was both show stopping but wearable and I needed it to dry swiftly because I was impatient to wait for it set. So read on for what I used to create my nails of the week.
The two purple shades I chose are probably two of my favorites in my entire nail polish collection. I picked up my first bottle of Paradise (by Nubar) before I even had my twins (over 4 years ago) and the bottle I’m holding in my photo is my third of this shade. This Duo chrome is absolutely gorgeous and I found that topping it with Maybelline Color Show’s Diamond in the Rough made a great combination. Of course, anyone that is close to me knows that China Glaze’s IDK is a Holy Grail for me. I haven’t been seeing it in my local beauty supply stores and I’m a bit worried that it may be only available on Amazon – but I have back ups just in case… because it is my FAVORITE Purple EVER.
Flakey Topper – Maybelline Color Show Diamond in the Rough
Base Coat – Julep Nail Therapy
Top Coat – Ciate London Speed Coat Pro Fast Dry top coat
I know I’m a purple addict – but purple and gold seriously has stolen my heart. I can’t help it – I know I’ll be rocking out these nails all spring and summer as I do all year round. lol What colors will be your favorites for the season?
