Face of the Day (FOTD)

Category

The rainy weather has not been agreeing with me lately.  So when I created this look, I could not get a good photo of it and I had to film the tutorial using lights instead of the natural light coming in from my window – but nonetheless, I digress and move forward.  I created this look because I haven’t had the opportunity to do any makeup tutorials using my Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette and I’ve been playing around with it for a few weeks now.  I used the look book included with the palette as inspiration to create this look, but I did switch it up a little.  I hope you enjoy this.  I thought this would be a really sweet Valentine’s Day look without being too dramatic or over the top, but definitely on the smoky side and sultry.  It’s super easy to create and definitely wearable for a day or night out.

Valentine's Day Makeup Tutorial - Cherry Truffle

As I mentioned earlier, lighting was not ideal so I was not too happy with the photos I was able to get before the rain came down harder and the sky darkened.  I take all of my photos outside in natural lighting so it was a bit of an issue, but at least I have some photos to show.

winter in hawaii plus sized outfit 2

Every year I get asked what Winter is like here in  Hawaii… honestly, we don’t truly experience a change in seasons so it’s very different from other parts of the World.  One thing that stands out here is that we see Whales in our oceans this time of year and of course, it is a little on the chilly side (like today – we had mid 70 Degree weather most of the day which made it a nice cool and comfortable day at home), and of course – Hawaii is known for their Winter swells… and this is the time all the huge Surf Competitions are held since our waves can reach anywhere from 25 – 35 feet (in some cases much higher).  But for the most part – it is sunny sunny sunny and we don’t get snow here except for the highest mountain slopes (and even then, it’s a several hours drive and barely any snow to play).

For my makeup I am using a simply winged liner (Jesse’s Girl Waterproof eye liner pen) and Elizabeth Mott’s It’s So big Mascara.  On my lips I’m rocking out one of my favorite lipsticks from Lipstick Queen – Black Tie, which is a gorgeous red.

My hope was to style this poncho several different ways so that it could be paired with different things, but due to the Holidays and Christmas days away, I didn’t have the chance to.  I will certainly take photos and post here on my blog when I’m able to style this poncho differently, my favorite way being jeans.

Stay tuned for that and don’t forget to check out the video! 😉040 copy

Last week I did a video of my Top 5 Eye Shadow Palettes and the Urban Decay Naked Palette was one of the 5.  I always find that I can use this palette for any look.  I’ve been asked many times why I haven’t shelled out the money for the Naked 2 and it’s mainly because the colors are much more cool toned and I just wasn’t a fan when I swatched it in person.  I have taken my Naked palette with me across the United States… from Hawaii to Washington DC and everywhere in between.  It is still a favorite of mine and I find that I have been pulling towards it a lot more this past week.041 copy

To create this look I used the following eye shadow colors from the Urban Decay Naked 1:

  • Naked – Transition and blending color
  • Half baked – lid color
  • Darkhorse – outer corner and slightly into the crease
  • Hustle – outer v
  • Virgin – brow highlight
  • Smog – lower lash line
  • Sin – inner corner highlight

I took photos at different times of the day so that you could see what it looked like in different lighting.  The photo above (brown background) was taken just as the sun set.  The photo with the white background was taken when the sun was still pretty bright… about 3:30pm.
