Hi Friends! Today we are talking about powder dip nails. I’m sharing my thoughts on DoubleDip Nail products and dip powder. In the late 90s, I tried a dip powder that mainly was an acrylic to build your nails. It was used to create “acrylic type nails”. I’ve never tried dip powders since, not these types anyway and I’m loving them. Thank you DoubleDip Store for introducing me to powder dip nails.

I’m excited to be sharing with all of you my thoughts on DoubleDip Nails. Seriously, how fun is this summery mani? In the video, I’m sharing with you the first time I’ve ever done dip nails (with colored dip powder). It’s so incredibly easy to do.

About DoubleDip Nail Store

I tried 3 colors from the Summer Collection. They include Goo Getter (green), 90s Baby (hot/neon pink) and Atomic Orange (orange). Each dipping powder comes with 2oz of the product (a very large container, perfect for dipping long nails). The powders are finely milled and very soft and silky. With or without discounts, the powders are very well priced and I love that they are made in the USA.

I’m absolutely impressed by the durability and longevity of these dip powders and liquids. I have read that dip powders last about 2-3 weeks and these have done so. My nails remained shiny (great topcoat) the whole time. And, my manicure looks like I just had it done, with exception to grow out, of course.

Does it need to be cured by UV Lamp?

Unlike Gel manicures, dipping powder does not require the curing of a UV Lamp, which is awesome. They have not cracked or chipped on me and they provided a protection layer on my natural nails. I’ve been washing dishes daily, working out and so much more without any worry that my mani would be destroyed. These powders provide great strength to my nails. But, are still thin so that it doesn’t feel like I have anything on them.

They are extremely fast-drying and the cure time is almost instant. There is no funky smell and my nails are so smooth and pretty. My nails look like I just left the nail salon. It’s been 10 years since going to a nail salon, so this gives me an option to do it myself. I haven’t had any issues using these and I have already removed them once to put on a new mani. A dip powder manicure takes less time for me versus having to wait for traditional nail polishes to dry. While it’s not instant, it was quick. I love that I can go about my day without waiting for polish to dry.

Is it beginner friendly?

I’m a beginner using colored dip powders and I found these extremely easy to use from the jump. If you are looking to try something new and easy, the kits from DoubleDip are great. DoubleDip also has a lot of tutorials to help get you started as well.

How does it work?

Here are my steps that I did to apply DoubleDip Nail Powders:

  • Prep your nails by sanitizing and cleaning before applying products. A clean surface helps the product to stick but is also important to prevent fungal infection.
  • Push back your cuticles gently
  • Remove shine/oil from the surface of your nail. No need to file the nail bed like traditionally done. I simply used a gentle nail block buffer and lightly removed shine.
  • Apply a bonder to the nail to help with longevity. I did not do this step, but it definitely does help. Doubledipstore.com does have a bonder liquid that you can purchase as well.
  • Apply a thin layer of base coat, evenly to the nail. I did one nail at a time. This ensures the based coat did not dry before I had the chance to dip it.
  • Dip your nail into selected nail powder at a 45-degree angle. Tap off the excess and dust off the nail with your brush.
  • Repeat the steps on the other nails and decide if you want to do a second coat.
  • Clean off all the dust from your nails and apply activator. Let dry completely.
  • Use buffer and file to lightly file nail to smooth.
  • Clean nails, wash hands well. Do not use soap.
  • Apply activator again, let dry
  • Apply top coat, let dry

Have you tried powder dip nail manicures before? Overall, I’m very impressed with the quality and longevity of my manicure. I’ve had my neon nails for about 3 weeks. My nails look like I just stepped out of the nail salon. I’m loving dip powder so much! I have a very large shopping cart filled with DoubleDip powders, ready for checkout.

My final thoughts

Let’s be honest here, I don’t have a lot of time to devote to doing my nails. A few months ago I stopped painting my nails because of the drying time. Traditional nail polish took so long to dry and I didn’t have that kind of time to sacrifice. I was able to do a whole manicure and let the top coat dry in about 45 minutes. I’m able to wash dishes after the top coat dried. This is something I would not have been able to do with traditional polish. My nails had a shine that is unbeatable as well and lasted for weeks. I love that my nails have added strength. But, that there is no damage to my natural nails like traditional acrylic overlays. Use my discount code/link and try out DoubleDip Nail Powders and liquids for yourself… I think you’ll love them as much as I do.

Beauty trends are something that are constantly changing and evolving and sometimes – we even throwback to fun trends and ideas from our past that are timeless.  When it comes to trends, I absolutely love trying the new ones when they make their way to the spotlight and test them for myself to see what the hype is all about.  One that has made its way to different beauty outlets and brands is the “spray on nail polish” trend.  Using a polish in a spray can (similar to spray paint), the concept is to spray the nail polish onto your nails for a quick and easy manicure.  I was immediately taken by this concept – being a mother and knowing that waiting for a coat of polish to dry is literally like watching paint do the same, so I definitely thought it was cool.  There are several brands out there that offer similar products, so when Spray Perfect sent over a few for me to try, I was excited to give it a go.

Spray Perfect retails for $19.99 (an additional shipping & processing fee of $4.95).  The website states they are having a special “Double Offer” which gives you a choice of 2 colors + 1 Base/Top Coat.  If you purchase outside of their “Double Offer” then they are regularly priced for $19.99 each.  Spray Perfect offers 7 shades – Racy Red, Sexy Silver, Naked Nude, Party Pink, Passion Purple, Whimsical White and Black Beauty.  I received Sexy Silver and Naked Nude as the colors to try out.

Note:  For my Hawaii readers – Spray Perfect’s website states they can only offer Continental US shipping only.  Since we are used to these types of situations, it’s probably because of the flammable shipping.

Sleek packaging reminiscent of a spray can, the concept is simple and easy to grasp and use.  Using the product is also quite simple and I really like the ease of use.  It’s as easy as using a base coat to apply to the nails, then spraying your polish color of choice and topping with the top coat (which happens to be the base coat too).  Spray Perfect says they offer the world’s fastest manicure that dries in under a minute.  It’s new technology offers color that only adheres to nails and washes easily from your skin.  You get quick, complete coverage on your nails & only your nails.  With a little rubbing to remove the excess polish from your skin, you are going to save money and stop going to the salon for a mani that’s quick and easy.

So let’s chit chat a bit about the process.  The first time I used the products, doing so was really easy and the directions were easy to follow.  I painted my nails with the base coat / top coat and allowed them to dry.  It states on the bottle not to “blow on your nails” to help them dry but let them dry naturally.  That was easy to follow.  Once the base coat dries, spray your nails the desired color.

Spraying my nails was quite easy.  The nozzle was easy to press and the bottle is small enough to still offer you good control using both your left and right hand regardless of whichever is the dominant one.  I was quite impressed with the overall feel with the product while I used it.  I opted to spray my nails with two coats to make sure the color was bold enough for me to see.  Immediately after spraying my left hand, I realized that the color really does stick well to the parts where I painted with base coat and it started to lightly flake off or rub off on the other parts of my fingers.  But, after one coat and then spraying the second coat, I could tell that the colors were not the same as the swatch on the bottles.  Each color – the Naked Nude & Sexy Silver were different in shade than the swatch portrayed on the bottle as well as the swatches on the website page.

The silver really reminded me of a spray paint type of texture and applied unevenly – whether with one or two coats.  I tried it with three coats, but it didn’t seem to fix the issue so I assumed it was just the formulation of the color.  The nude one seemed to apply much more evenly, though, each one definitely had a rough or matte like (like spray paint) texture on the nails before I applied the Top Coat.  Once the Top coat was applied, it seemed to leave an even texture with a glossy finish.  You could still see any patchy places that the paint did not apply well, but it wasn’t bad.

After spraying the two coats of each color, I let it dry a few minutes and then painted with the top coat.  I didn’t clean up my fingers from the over spray till after the top coat dried completely.  The total process from base coat, to two coats of color and the top coat took about 15 minutes.  But, I liked that each of the polishes and base/top coat dried fairly quickly.  Once it dried, about two minutes each layer, I moved onto the next layer and once the top coat dried – about 2 minutes after painting the last nail with the top coat, my nails seemed like they were dried well and I could be on my way if I wanted to.

Washing off and removing the over spray on my fingers was really easy.  I simply washed my hands and with a little rubbing (literally), I was able to get off the over spray and my manicure was good to go.  Any place on my nails that did not have the base and top coat were left clean.  The entire process, while there were some extra steps than a traditional manicure, went by fairly easy.

Now – let’s talk about the longevity of the manicure.  I wash dishes several times a day and I’m pretty brutal on my hands.  I actually liked the fact that they didn’t chip in the first 24 hours like many nail polishes can do, depending on the top coat.  But, it did chip on me by the end of the 2nd day – not dramatically, but I noticed it.  I don’t think anyone would have really noticed it unless I showed them, but I noticed it when it did chip.

spray perfect, does it work, nails, nail polish, spray perfect spray on nail polish, spray on nail polish, manicure, review, beauty review, beauty,

Besides washing off the excess polish and over spray, I didn’t really need to do much clean up.  I didn’t go through and clean up any edges of the polish so you could see how much of it was covered and how much was removed.  Taking off the nail polish to change colors was easy!  It removed with my basic nail polish remover without any issues.  Acetone remover or non-acetone, it didn’t matter, both removed them easily and without any issues.

Oh – one note I forgot to add… it smells like a nail polish and spray paint blend, so this is something you definitely want to do in a well ventilated area.  I also suggest protecting your furnishings because the over spray can definitely stain other things.

Overall – I think the concept is definitely fun.  It’s convenient and while the process is lengthy, I really loved the drying time on the top coat and the polish.  Right after putting the top coat on and it drying, I was able to wash dishes and fold clothes without any smudging – it was completely dry.  Because of this, I think this would be a nice option for a night out or something where you could devote 15 minutes to a nice manicure but have it ready to go for a night out.  It’s costly however, if you don’t get the deal – then you are looking at spending $20 for a spray on polish which requires the base/top coat to get the job done.  Like with all things, I think it really is up to the user and it could be something fun and useful for anyone that likes this kind of stuff.  The concept is cool and definitely interesting.  Would I buy it or purchase another color?  Hmmm… I think I would if it shipped to Hawaii or if I was able to get the Double deal.  It’s definitely something fun for a sleepover or a night out where you need a nice manicure that sets in a short amount of time.  I think that it’s fun to check out, but I would only do so with a good deal, otherwise, it’s something I would pass on.  It’s a bit pricey for just one bottle on its own.

You can check out Spray Perfect for yourself and see if it’s something you may want to check out.  Head on over to their website here: http://www.buysprayperfect.com/

Have you heard of Spray Perfect before?  If so, what are your thoughts?  If not, have you seen this spray on nail polish trend?

Argan Oil is such an important part of my skin care regimen.  Used with my coconut oil, Argan Oil helps to keep my skin hydrated and soft.  I have used many types of Argan Oil products in the past and continue to have my favorite brands but I’m always excited and happy to try new brands and Jaowying Beauty is no exception.  Recently I have been using the Jaowying Beauty Organic Argan Oil in my beauty routine.  This product is multi-purpose in that it can be used for the hair, face, skin and nails.  I have been using this product daily to help moisturize my face and my cuticles and have been enjoying it quite a bit.

Jaowying Beauty Organic Argan Oil for Hair, Face, Skin & Nails

Jaowying Beauty Argan Oil comes in a 4 fl.oz bottle with a dropper which makes it easy to use and dispense.  Retailing for just $19.95 you receive a lot of product for the price point and I love that this Argan Oil is not diluted as it is 100% pure and organic.  Bottled in the United States, Jaowying Beauty Argan Oil is cruelty free and certified organic using virgin cold-pressed argan oil (Argania Spinosa).

This oil is colored the same as other oils I have used.  It looks amber in color and has the normal argan oil scent.  It is free of artificial fragrances and while I’m not a fan of the scent of argan oil, I find that this one is not strong which makes it tolerable for me to use.  Since I have sensitive and dry skin, I use this oil to hydrate and moisturize my skin and love how my skin feels the next day.  My face is left soft, glowing and moisturized.  I have used this product in my hair and on my scalp and it also moisturizes well like other argan oils I have tried before.

I’m impressed with the size of the bottle for the price.  You can’t beat the price with this particular product because a 4 oz bottle will literally last me a few months, versus a month with the standard argan oil size you can purchase.  My husband also uses this product after he shaves and while we don’t use it to massage often, we do pull it out when we want to get a nice deep tissue massage.  One of my favorite treatments of argan oil is pimples or acne treatment.  I don’t get breakouts often but when I do they can definitely take charge of my face and argan oil along side my coconut oil help to treat the acne, heal and moisturize the areas so that those pesky pimples are not around for long.

This particular brand of oil absorbs very quickly, which I love.  I don’t have to worry about waiting for it to soak into my skin during the day if I decide I want to moisturize with oil.  While they say it is fragrance free, I can still smell the argan scent, but I’m sensitive to smell.  I’m really enjoying this product and I definitely think I’ll continue to use it in my skin care routine.

Winter in Hawaii this year has been pretty interesting and offering a cold front that Hawaii islanders are not quite used to.  With weather at it’s all time coldest… we’ve been experiencing low 50s most evenings and during the day we don’t get above 75 degrees.  I know for my buds on the East Coast or Canada, this is nothing, but considering we have warmth here year long, this has been quite interesting on my body and my skin.  That’s one of the reasons why I’m so excited to be bringing to you another post along with my girlfriends from The Beauty Council.  Each of us live all over the United States and some from other parts of the World, so it’s interesting to see what our winter beauty staples and favorites are for this year.

THE BEAUTY COUNCIL POST HEADER

Winter does both positive and negative things to my skin but who’s really counting, right? lol I have super sensitive skin and it really forces me to concentrate my winter beauty products around moisturizing and keeping my skin supple.  As most know about me already, I have severe Eczema and it takes a lot from me to keep it all at bay.  While I love makeup – my essential staples for Winter… are all skin care type products.

Winter Staples

My entire beauty regime now revolves around Coconut Oil.  About two years ago (maybe a little longer), I decided I would eliminate foundation from my beauty routine and focus on trying to keep my skin flare ups and sensitivities controlled.  The creams that my Dermatologist gave me were honestly… quite horrible.  My dad reminded me how important coconut oil was and my husband and I did a lot of research.  It is now an essential part of my skin care from my overall skin, face, lips and even hair.  I even do oil pulling and consume coconut oil to help me with my overall health.  So – you will see that it is mentioned consistently.  I make many of my own masks, lip scrubs, body scrubs and moisturizer… but wanted to include products I know I pull for quite frequently during the winter.  These are my Quint-essentials.

winter hair care staples

Besides Coconut Oil, Argan Oil and Macadamia Oil are important in my hair care.  Having very curly and long hair means that I need to pamper my tresses as much as possible, especially since I am pretty brutal on them already.  While I am not really selective when it comes to Argan Oil, I do love Josie Maran, Voila Ve and BebeLush.  I purchase from these brands consistently.  Macadamia Hair and Moroccan Oil, DermOrganic and Briogeo also offer some of my favorite hair care products which I use consistently and most recently, Dove’s Pure Care Dry Oil line.

Facial Winter staples

Again – Coconut Oil is essential.  See the large bottle in my photo… I buy those in the double pack from Costco because we use it for many things… one bottle for beauty, one for kitchen and consumption.  I use this as a daily/nightly moisturizer for my body but most importantly my face.  Mixed with Argan Oil I use Coconut oil to remove my makeup as well as to moisturize.  While I do also have an Facial Oil Cleanser, I find that by using the coconut oil it will remove all of my makeup thoroughly without drying out my face.  I also apply Vitamin E from moisture cream from The Body Shop.  I apply this as a heavy moisturizer, but do not use it daily and when needed to protect my skin if I have an eczema flare up – Cheryl Lee MD’s True Lipids Relieve & Protect Ointment.  This skin protectant is my absolute favorite and I recommend it to anyone who has eczema.  When I need a little exfoliating… I will either make my own Honey, Coconut Oil and Sugar scrub (I will do a post on that later) or I’ll use any one of my favorite Freeman Beauty Masks.  Freeman Beauty masks are not only affordable, but they have different types which offer you a wide range of pampering at your finger tips.

Winter Lip Staples

My lips get very chapped and dry during the winter months and to keep them looking luscious I make sure they are consistently hydrated and moisturized.  EOS (Evolution of Smooth) lip spheres are my favorite for on the go moisturizing.  My favorite flavor is Passion Fruit which is a limited edition scent that only releases a few times a year, I love the flavor and of course, the sphere is purple which is my favorite color.  I have a recipe for a lip scrub that I love to use as well, which includes coconut oil, honey and sugar to exfoliate my lips and keep them soft and supple.  On days when my eczema has a flare up I use Cheryl Lee MD Skin Protectant and each night before bed I apply one of my favorite lip butters from The Body Shop to keep my lips soft and moisturized through the night.

Body Winter Staples

Overall, anything and everything I use in my skin offers a variety of benefits as well as a lot of moisture.  Besides Coconut Oil, Argan Oil and Vitamin E, I also love lathering The Body Shop’s Body butter over my skin, especially in the evening to keep my skin well moisturized.

Like I mentioned previously, while I love makeup – taking care of my skin is very important during the winter months and skin care products are my number one winter beauty staples.  I would love to know what Winter staples make your must have list.  Leave a comment below and tell me what important beauty essentials make your staple list.  Don’t forget to visit some of the lovely ladies linked below and show them some love… see what kind of winter beauty staples they selected.

It’s been quite a few months now since I first started using Eu Natural’s Biotin Supplement.  Check out my initial thoughts on the product here.  Most know that while my hair never has difficulty growing (it grows much faster than most peoples’ do), because I can color my hair often and after having three children (all of which were challenging pregnancies), my hair is not as strong as it used to be and shedding is a daily occurrence.  I already take a daily vitamin supplement for my body but I never mind trying products that could result beneficial for my hair.

Eu Natural Biotin 5000 MCG

PRESS SAMPLE

Eu Natural offers a Biotin Supplement that is 5000 MCG.  This supplement can be used for hair, skin and nails – which is always a benefit since I’m all about glowing skin.  This product provides pure, pharmaceutical grade Biotin that helps to support the cellular energy production.  Retailing for $24.99 (120 day supply) and currently on sale for $19.95 you receive a great deal for an affordable price tag.  What I love the most is that these capsules are not big at all and very easy to swallow.  There are no funky scents or tastes when you swallow the pill and I didn’t notice any upset stomach.  What I love the best is that this is a product that is great for your skin, nails and your hair, not just specifically your hair which is a huge plus.

Eu Natural Biotin 5000 MCGI have been taking this supplement now for several months and while my hair hasn’t experienced major growth, I do notice that my hair shaft seems stronger and my fall out/shedding is not nearly as bad as before.  One of the biggest positives is that my skin loves it and my nails have been much stronger because of it.

biotin for hair

A little note… I cut my hair and my nails pretty often.  To keep my hair from split ends I try to cut my hair every two to three months and usually 2 to 4 inches at a time.  My hair grows pretty fast, it always has so I didn’t notice additional growth.  My nails however, while they have always grown out pretty quickly and have been pretty strong for the most part, I notice that they seem much stronger and ripping and tearing of my nails hasn’t occurred as often.  I also noticed the ridges I would have in my nail bed are not as prominent as before.  While I can attest that to a change in my nail care… I think it also has to do with the supplement.

Biotin-Label

Like with any supplement, I always suggest that you check with your physician first to see if you can take such.  I have always been a bit worried about Biotin supplements in the past because I took one once that cause me to grow hair “everywhere” and it was not pretty.  It also caused my skin to freak out and break out.  I was surprised that nothing like that happened and after taking this along with other supplements, my skin loves it.  Overall, it is something I will continue to use (I already purchased my 3rd bottle) and I enjoy the benefits it has given me.

Have you tried a Biotin supplement before?  What were your results from taking it?  Did you benefit from taking the supplement?
