I’m not going to lie… growing up – I HATED MY HAIR (note the all caps).  My hair was super curly (even more than it is now) and it was difficult to style and work with and to top it all off, I had very very long hair, down to my knees long.  Most of my life I wore my hair pulled back in a pony tail because it was just so much to deal with and when I got older and graduated from high school, flat irons were truly my best friend.

Just about two years ago, I decided that it was time to stop fighting my natural curls and embrace them for what they were.  I had so many people tell me that I had beautiful hair and all I could think about was how difficult it was to deal with and keep the craziness at bay.  It’s been almost two years since I have added any heat products to my hair and over the last year I have been trying out new products that I have been truly loving.

Now – if you know anything about me, it’s that I use affordable shampoo and conditioners (because I have so much hair, I need a lot of it) and expensive hair styling products, serums and gels, etc.  Currently – my hair care routine consists of the Suave Professionals Hair care line for Shampoo and conditioner and my serums include my Holy Grail Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil from Dr. Bonner’s and Macadamia Oil from Macadamia.  But, I have a few products that I use to help keep my curls soft and enhance the shine and moisture of my natural curls.

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie (click here to see my review on the Curling Souffle) acts as a leave-in conditioner for me.  I do use it in combination with other products as well – Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curling Souffle and products from Curls, but I use the Enhancing Smoothing right after I get out of the shower when my hair is still damp and in some cases – wet.  What is so awesome about this product is that it lasts forever…  for some reason, after each use – because of the smoothie texture, it doesn’t seem to lessen in product when I look in the jar.  Anyhow, I apply a good amount to my hair and work into my hair from my ends to my roots.  This light weight formula smells yummy – like coconut with just a hint of hibiscus but keeps my ends hydrated and my hair feeling soft and full of body.

The product’s texture is very creamy – but also feels like a mix of cream and foam.  It isn’t sticky and once the product dries, it does not leave a crispy feeling in my hair.  My hair doesn’t look or feel like I have product in it – but it does have a gorgeous shine and looks healthy and my curls are naturally revived.  I was taught from a young age by my Uncle who was a Hair Dresser that hair should be trimmed every 6-8 weeks to keep it healthy and growing so it is a habit I have had all my life and I stick to it.  Right now – my hair in its curly form reaches to my buttocks in length and I trim about 3-5 inches every 2 months to keep my ends healthy.  The SM Curl Enhancing Smoothie takes the place of my leave in conditioner (not all the time – but often) and helps to keep my curls at bay.  I love using this product along with the Curling Souffle because it is made for Thick, Curly Hair and has Coconut Oil, Silk Protein & Neem Oil.

Looking for a product that leaves out all the harsh ingredients that many on the market have today?  Shea Moisture’s products do not include the following:  Parabens, Phthalates, Paraffin, Gluten, Propylene Glycol, Mineral Oil and Synthetic Fragrance.  Many of those additives dry out my hair terribly and Mineral oil tends to cause my hair line to break out in pimples, so the fact that it does not include these items is a big deal to me.  You can find this product and the other one I’ll be writing about as well at most drug stores like CVS, Walgreens and even Walmart.  I tend to buy mine at Walgreens when they have sales or to use my points.  The container includes 12oz worth of product and will cost you approximately $11.99.  What tops the cake for me on these products is that they do not test on animals… woohoo!

I have fine curly hair and over the years the dying and heat tools have really taken its toll on my hair.  The last 2 years I have really taken an interest in taking care of it and I’m happy to see how far my locks have come.  I have always been admired for my hair, but now – I am so excited to wear my hair down.  Shea Moisture products have been awesome.  This is the second scent of products I tried, the original ones (I don’t remember the name of the scent) did not smell very nice and so I will keep to my Coconut & Hibiscus.

Ipsy has definitely been an awesome subscription this past year.  I have been subscribed to Ipsy now for a year and while there are some months where I am a little unhappy with some of the products, each bag definitely has been well worth the cost.  For just $10.00 a month – you get to try out products from a wide variety – both high end as well as drug store products.  You get 4-5 products, some of which are full sized and some deluxe samples and you get a cute makeup bag to accompany the products.  Is it worth it?  Why don’t see what I think about it in the Video embedded below as well as my price break down.  021 copy

Product Price Break down:

I received at least 3 Full Sized products in my Glam Bag this month – I’m still uncertain if the Be A Bombshell lip crayon is full sized.  Total in full sized products equals $42.00 in retail value.  Everything else is just a bonus honestly.  Ipsy is definitely worth the monthly cost.  Check out my reveal video as well as first impressions and swatches for some of the items below.

{I do receive points which I can use towards product freebies on their site if you click on my link and subscribe to Ipsy.  I do not receive any monetary payment for you signing up.  I pay for my Ipsy glam bags each month out of my own pocket – this is not a sponsored review or post.}

The Holidays are just around the bend and everyone is looking for the perfect Holiday gift for the Beauty and Makeup lover in their life.  This set by Sephora includes all of their Favorites when it comes to lip products and many have become some of my favorites as well.  Check out my review in the video and the price break down for each.  If you are a lippy lover or you know someone that is – definitely look into getting this item.  Right now this collection is sold out on Sephora’s website – but the more affordable Give Me Some Lip is still available and you can check it out here.

So is the Give Me More Lip Collection worth it?  Well, watch my video and see for yourself.

It is not secret that I have some crazy sensitive skin and do everything in my power to keep it in control by using natural products and pretty costly serums and products to keep my face and sensitivities at bay.  About a year and a half ago I was diagnosed with eczema after having one of the most horrendous flare ups I could have ever experienced, so I have been very leery to try anything in fear that my skin would have a serious reaction again.

I have used Murad products in the past (cleansers and moisturizers) and while I did like their products, I never continued to use them after the first bottle was used up.  It’s not because the product didn’t work, but because I just transitioned to something more readily available for me.   But after receiving the Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum from Murad and using it the last 10-11 days, I really think this will be one I’ll continue to use.

Here is what my face looked like prior to my first use:

Don’t judge, lol – I know I look like a hot mess.  I took this photo the day the Murad Serum arrived in the mail (October 20, 2013).  This was taken earlier in the day before I applied any makeup.

This image was taken with my phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 2) and no editing has been done.

I took the photo above a few hours later before putting my makeup on since the lighting was a bit better.  Again, same camera and no editing.  In the image you can see some of my freckles on my cheeks as well as pigmentation from my eczema near my mouth area.

The photo above was taken on Halloween (10/31/13).  The lighting was not as harsh so there wasn’t as much dark cast on the image, but you can tell that my face had lightened up quite a bit, enough so that it was noticeable by people I hadn’t seen for a few days.  My husband even noticed the change. It was not dramatic enough to where I looked odd, but enough to where my skin had added luminosity and looked vibrant and pretty.

Check out my video review below where I discuss all that the product does, some of its key ingredients as well as demo the product for you to show you what my face looked like on the first day of use and then 10-11 days later.  Overall, I’m very impressed by this Serum.  It is backed by one of the leading Skin care companies but it also holds its own as it has definitely proven to be a favorite in my skin care arsenal.  I would like to think the pictures show the results for you as well as the video.

The Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum retails on Murad’s site for $60.00 for 1 fl oz.  Even with daily use, since you need only a thin layer, the product will last you for quite some time.  I do think it is costly, but what skin care products aren’t these days?  I think it will make an awesome addition to any woman’s skin care regimen, regardless of age.

Like I mention in the video below, please be sure to use sunscreen when using this product (or at anytime).  Due to the ingredients it can cause sensitivity problems.  Be sure to watch my video review for more detail on the results I received as well as my experiences.  You can also watch the video here.

I received the Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara in my September Ipsy Bag.  As most of you know – I am a mascara junkie and probably have anywhere from 7 – 15 mascaras in my makeup stash at any given time (honestly, probably more).  Since I have such short lashes, I am always looking for a mascara that will not only give me awesome length but volume and of course, holding my curl is definitely a huge plus to give my lashes the look of length. At first trial with the mascara, I found it a bit difficult to work with.  I later figured out that the actual formulation dries very quickly.  While that is not necessarily a bad thing, it may be a bit tricky for some to work with.  I like to build my mascara on my lashes, so it took a little bit of finese to really get it to work.

Once I had the opportunity to really figure out it’s use –  it worked really well for me.  The brush is awesome and it really does help to contribute to great curl.  The mascara is just $19.99 for the full sized tube (10 ml) and comes in black.  You can order it directly from the Elizabeth Mott website or you can search the site to see if a store near your carries the item. While I have heard of Elizabeth Mott products before (I’m a huge fan of the Lash card for myself and clients), I never tried the mascara so it was awesome that I had the opportunity to give it a whirl.  I have been using it daily and in fact will need to pick up a new tube since my sample is just about gone.  Please check out my video review below or watch it directly on YouTube. In each photo above I am using the Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Mascara 🙂
