The Beauty Council

First off… I have a lesson for you before getting into the look.  I am so excited to  introduce you to The Beauty Council, a new group that consists of beauty and lifestyle bloggers that have come together to bring you beauty in all forms, shapes and sizes.  I’m thankful to be a part of this elite bunch of lovelies that will bring to you a new series of looks and posts two times a month featuring an array of inspirations.  You can expect us to cover beauty and makeup trends, inspired looks, collections of favorite products and everything else I haven’t mentioned.  This time around, The Beauty Council takes on the VMA’s (Video Music Awards) from 2014 and looks that are speaking to our souls.  Check out all the lovely ladies and their fabulous recreations (links below).

If you know anything about me… it’s that I’m a huge believer that every woman should have at least one red lipstick in her makeup arsenal.  Red lips offer a huge statement and in my opinion say that you are “Confident, Sexy, Sultry, Daring and Showstopping”…. plus countless other things. lol Rita Ora really wowed me at this years VMA’s with her statement red lips and bold lashes and because of that I used her makeup that she wore on the red carpet as inspiration for my look.

Rita Ora VMA 2014

Rita’s look screams “timeless” to me.  While red lips can be a bit too daring for some, I think that it can be a bold statement for many and done up the right way – it’s glamorous and beautiful.  Besides the bold red lips she wore on camera, she also had rich black winged liner and fabulous spike-like lashes.  Check out my video tutorial for this look embedded below or click here to watch it directly on YouTube.

Rita Ora VMA's 2014 Red Carpet

Products used on my eyes and how to get the look

  • Milani Bella Taupe Bella Eyes Gel Powder Shadow – this shadow was used to fill in my eye brows to make them look darker and more defined.
  • Milani Brow Wax was then applied on my brows to keep my brow hair in place.
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo Leather in Creamy Beige (80) was then applied to the lid from lash line to the crease and blended out well with my finger.  This color is used as my base and primer.
  • Milani Bella Caffe Eye Shadow was then applied to my eye lids with a fluffy brush and blended into the crease so that there are no harsh lines.  This shadow is used as a base lid shade and is similar to my natural skin tone.
  • Milani Brow & Eye Highlight Pencil 01 – I apply Matte Beige to my brow bone to highlight below the arch of my brow.  I blend this creamy pencil well so that there are no harsh lines but making sure I still have a soft highlight.  Then I take the opposite side of the pencil in High Glow in the inner corner of my eyes as a base for the shadow I’ll be laying down shortly.
  • Milani Bella Chiffon Eye Shadow was then applied with my finger to the inner corner of my eyes over High Glow (Milani Brow & Eye Highlight Pencil).
  • Jordana Fabuliner Liquid Felt Tip liner was then applied to the upper lash line.  I created a small but defined wing and a thin liner on my lid.
  • Jordana 12 Hour Made to Last Waterproof Liquid Pencil liner in Black Point was then applied to my inner rim (tight line) to give my lashes a thicker look.  I would normally apply this before my liquid liner, but I forgot.
  • I then curl my lashes and apply two coats of L’Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara.  Once that’s done, I apply a set of lashes from ebay (sorry – I do not have a name for them, but they had the spike like look I was aiming to achieve).

Products used on my face / lips and how to get the look

  • Olay Total Effects 7-in-One CC Cream was applied to my face and neck area to help even out my skin tone, protect my skin with SPF as well as moisturize.  I applied this product with my fingers.
  • I then applied NYX Matte Bronzer in Deep and used this product to contour my face, defining my cheek bones and applying to the temples of my forehead, along my hair line and on my jaw bone.
  • Milani Rose Powder blush in Romantic Rose was applied with a stippling brush to my cheeks and blended up towards the top of my cheek bones
  • Wet n Wild’s Centerstage Fergie Shimmer Palette in Photobomb was applied to the high points of my face and cheeks to give my face a soft golden glow.
  • Milani Color Statement Lip liner in True Red was applied to my lips – lining my lips on my natural lip line and then slightly filling in my lips.  Then pursing my lips together to distribute the color.
  • Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Ruby Valentine was then applied to my lips.
  • To finish the look, I applied Milani Brilliant Shine lip gloss in Red My Lips to add a nice shine.

Have you heard of Freeman Beauty Facial Masks before?  I’m sure you have, but I figured I would ask.  Could it be possible that an affordable product on the market can offer awesome results?  Could it be true that a product that costs less than $5.00 can give you soft and smooth skin?  Hmmm… read on to see what I think.Freeman Avocado and Oatmeal Clay maskI have used Freeman masks for a couple of years now… though I’ll admit that I really was not a fan prior to now.  Many of them that I had bought dried my skin out so terribly that it actually was more damaging on my face then it was beneficial.  Of course, now that I know more about my skin and my eczema that I was diagnosed with last year, I now know how to use these products properly.  For years, I was told I had oily combination skin so I used products such as these (Freeman Masks) as ways to keep my skin at bay… but little did I know – I had dry skin – hence the eczema.  Now that I know better, I have enjoyed using Freeman Masks and they are a part of my skincare routine along with other favorite skincare products.

So – you can expect to see reviews on several of these since I have at least 5 full sized masks and at least 20 little packets to go through… but I decided to write about the one that I have been using the most lately – Avocado & Oatmeal.  The mask itself is just a $1.99 for the Travel / Sample Size (0.5 oz) or $3.99 for the full sized tube (6.0 oz). Freeman offers a wide range of products to suit all your skincare needs and this is just one of the products from the Feeling Beautiful line.  The consistency of their prices is a breath of fresh air, because you can go to most retailers like Walmart, CVS and Walgreens and find the products at about the same price range at each location.  The Travel size has enough product to use about 2-4x in my opinion – but for some, depending on the thickness of the product, you may use it just once.  The full size tube offers you many many uses.  I use mine every week and half to two weeks and I still have a lot left in my tube, considering I have been using it for at least 2 months.

Freeman Avocado and Oatmeal Clay mask 2

The products texture is much like other masks you can find on the market today.  The mask feels creamy and dries quickly so you will feel the tightening of your skin after it starts to dry.  While I haven’t tried Botox, I worked in Plastic Surgery for years and it reminds me of what my patients would describe their face would kind of feel like after getting Botox, but of course… without the pain of the needle – just the tight feeling.  I absolutely love that this mask smells pretty good – it doesn’t have a chemical scent, which is awesome.  I want to say it smells a little like oatmeal, but at the same time – I’m honestly not sure.

Ingredients listed on the website for this product include:

Key Ingredients:
Avocado Oil
Oatmeal
Kaolin Clay

Ingredient List:
Water/Aqua/Eau, Kaolin, Bentonite, Titanium Dioxide, Propylene Glycol, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Colloidal Oatmeal, Tocopherol, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Montmorillonite, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Polyacrylate (Veegum Ultra), Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Fragrance (Parfum), Yellow 5 (CI 19140), blue 1 (CI 42090).

Packaging for the Full Sized Mask is easy to use and definitely awesome for storing.  It is larger than the size you are allowed to travel with, but that’s why the Sample Travel Size packets are so awesome because they are travel friendly.  If I had to make one suggestion, it would be to have a zip top for the travel sized packets because I can actually get 3 or more uses out of it depending on my need for the product.  Because the travel size is perfect for just that, a zip top will allow me to take one packet with me and it will last my entire trip depending on the length of stay.

Freeman Mask application

From the Website:

Nourish and purify with one amazing mask! Rich clays dive deep to purge dirt and oils from pores. Nutrient-rich Vitamin E, Avocado and Oatmeal moisturize for lasting skin softness. Skin looks and feels squeaky clean and is soft to the touch. Perfect for normal to combination skin.

Directions: Apply mask to face and neck, avoiding contact with eyes. Let dry and rinse with warm water. Use two times a week or as often as needed.

As I mentioned earlier, I have eczema, mainly on my face – so I stay clear of many drug store products that I know can be drying to my skin.  After using other Freeman Feeling Beautiful Masks, I was very scared to try them again, but I figured I would give it one last try.  I’m glad I did because my skin feels soft, smooth and clean after each application.  It is my perfect little treatment and spa right at home at a VERY affordable price tag.  I love that I can also walk into most drug stores and find the samples, which allow me to purchase different ones to try them out before committing to a larger full size.  This Christmas, I have stocked many stockings and baskets with Freeman Mask samples because I do really love them.

Application is very easy and not as messy as most may think.  It will apply with little to no effort and washes off very easily as well.  Now that I have changed up my skincare routine, I do not get acne or breakouts, so I can’t say how well it will clear it up if you have acne prone skin.  But, I can say that it works awesome for a spot treatment as well… just dab a little on your pimple at night and you will notice a significant difference when you wake up the next day.  Be sure to remove your makeup prior to using this product as well.  Cleanse your skin first.  One tip though… be sure to moisturize accordingly after removing your mask to ensure you are putting moisture back into your skin after you have stripped any away.  But have a girl’s Spa Day and pamper yourself – I think it’s a great goodie for your skin.

Oh – one more thing… I’ve had to deal with Freeman’s customer service via email and let me just say – Fast response, helpful, polite… I’m very impressed!

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I am totally taken at awe with this collection set.  I just received the email from Sephora this morning and almost fell out of my chair.  Urban Decay is wowing us again with a collection filled with a massive set sold exclusively online.  The set has 68 beautiful Urban Decay shadows, all in full size.  If you were to purchase each shadow individually – you would be paying well over $1200.00 so the fact that this collection is just $595.00 is a total steal.
This is a makeup artist’s dream because this is such a great way to build your eye shadow kit at an affordable cost.  Let’s face it – when you are an artist in that field, your kit is a huge investment as this will be too.  Check it out and so much more at Sephora.com

I received the Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara in my September Ipsy Bag.  As most of you know – I am a mascara junkie and probably have anywhere from 7 – 15 mascaras in my makeup stash at any given time (honestly, probably more).  Since I have such short lashes, I am always looking for a mascara that will not only give me awesome length but volume and of course, holding my curl is definitely a huge plus to give my lashes the look of length. At first trial with the mascara, I found it a bit difficult to work with.  I later figured out that the actual formulation dries very quickly.  While that is not necessarily a bad thing, it may be a bit tricky for some to work with.  I like to build my mascara on my lashes, so it took a little bit of finese to really get it to work.

Once I had the opportunity to really figure out it’s use –  it worked really well for me.  The brush is awesome and it really does help to contribute to great curl.  The mascara is just $19.99 for the full sized tube (10 ml) and comes in black.  You can order it directly from the Elizabeth Mott website or you can search the site to see if a store near your carries the item. While I have heard of Elizabeth Mott products before (I’m a huge fan of the Lash card for myself and clients), I never tried the mascara so it was awesome that I had the opportunity to give it a whirl.  I have been using it daily and in fact will need to pick up a new tube since my sample is just about gone.  Please check out my video review below or watch it directly on YouTube.
