Prom Season is quickly approaching and in some areas across the U.S., it’s already in full swing.  Having been out of High School for almost 16 years (yeah – I know, don’t laugh. lol) I can still remember my Prom and Senior Ball like it was yesterday.  While it is such an exciting time and everyone gets so eager to plan for it – I wanted to share a few tips about dress selection and the overall night.

My Senior Ball – 1997

Buying the “Cinderella” dress is not as difficult as people think.  Honestly, I think you have two choices – the formal but timeless gown, or the trendy but almost bridal gown.  At the end of the day, you want to make sure it is something that makes you feel great about yourself, shows off some of your favorite curves and of course, is easy to dance the night away in.  JenJenHouse, an online prom dress retailer, ships online and offers a variety of dresses for your special evening.  You can visit them online at: www.jenjenhouse.com and check out their wide selection of gowns in different colors, shapes and designs.  What I love about JenJenHouse is that they offer plus sizes and they ship Worldwide.  Check out their recommended dresses for Prom as well as their discounts available to you.

The gorgeous Empire Waisted Sweetheart dress is a floor length gown with beading detail.  It is a universally flattering color and the style can be used by many body shapes.  This dress is gorgeous and provides a fashion statement without taking away from the beautiful girl wearing it.  Since Prom season usually occurs during the Spring Season, this color is such a great shade to wear and pairing it with a gorgeous bouquet will provide for a showstopping entrance.

I think the Bouquet selected (or corsage) should compliment the dress selected, not over power it.  But I have talked to many who have said that they have dreamed about their bouquet design and use that as the centerpiece of their entire ensemble.  If that is the case, you definitely want to select a gown that compliments your bouquet.  A dress that is more neutral in tone like black (or white) and even a cream would work well with a wide variety of bouquet colors.  For those of you that love purple, like me – this is the perfect opportunity to rock out that perfect purple bouquet (like my photo above) without looking like a walking Barney in a purple dress. lol

Add a subtle pop of color by making the statement your footwear.  I love Leopard and if I had my way – I would have rocked out a cool leopard print sandal or pumps to compliment my attire.  It’s a great way to show-off your personal style without going overboard.  Whatever the print or style you decide on, try to make sure you get a pair that will allow you to be comfortable.  There are so many different styles, but nothing is worst than having to remove your footwear an hour into the night because your feet are throbbing.  If you simply can’t give up the shoes of your dreams, compromise by bringing a pair of flip flops that you can throw on your feet when they start to ache.  You definitely don’t want to walk around barefoot through the night.

The accessories are all about complimenting your dress as well.  Go big and bold or tone it down with a simple look.  Accessories include everything from your necklace and earrings, rings, bracelets and clutch or purse.  I honestly think simple is best – but at the end of the day, use what makes you feel great.  It’s your Cinderella day – you’re going to the ball, utilize your personal fashion sense and just go with it.  As you can see from the Image above – I styled the couple very simply so that the dress would shine and the bouquet would compliment it all.  The accessories were just the added touch.

Most importantly make sure that you HAVE FUN.  Prom is about memories and you want to make sure the memories you make will be those you’ll want to remember in the future.  Everyone wishes to take the perfect date, buy the perfect dress, get the best flowers and in some cases, even be chosen as Prom Queen or King… but whatever your desires, make sure you plan for a fun (and safe) time so you’ll have moments to cherish for a lifetime.   Have fun & Enjoy your time and most importantly, no drinking and driving!

Yay… I had the awesome opportunity to get my second ever Voxbox from Influenster.  I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t completely excited for it – because in the past the box took over a month to arrive and there was two instances I was approved for Boxes and it turned out that since I lived in Hawaii – I couldn’t get any.  I’m glad that they have improved on their qualifications over the last few years (I originally signed up in 2011) so I have the opportunity to part-take in the fun.

Influenster J'Adore Voxbox

This month’s box was super exciting for me.  The J’Adore box is a little Valentine from Influenster to me.  It includes a bunch of fun goodies to share with my loved ones and to enjoy on my own.  Check out my video reveal (embedded below) or watch directly on YouTube here.

Contents of the box included:

Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask –  $9.39

  • I have used this product once and so far I am liking it.  It hasn’t dried out my very sensitive skin yet.

Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolates – $5.29

  • Of course, who doesn’t love Hershey’s Kisses.  Myself, Husband and sons have enjoyed these goodies.

Frizz Ease 3-Day Straight Flat Iron Spray – $9.99

  • I haven’t had the opportunity to use this product yet – but I will be using it this week and will post follow up photos and mini review.

KISS Looks So Natural Lashes – $3.99

  • I am a huge fan of KISS Lashes, they are some of my favorites.  I haven’t used these yet, but I will be sure to share when I do.

Red Rose Simply Indulgent Teas – $4.49 for a carton of 20 tea bags

  • So yummy and delicious.  I love these teas and will be picking up the box at my local grocery soon.

Vaseline Men Spray Lotion (select influensters received this to share with their husbands) – $7.99

  • My hubby has had an odd schedule this week, but on his next day off… it’s time to indulge in some chocolates and some lotion.  I’ll be sure to post the deets when we try it and how he likes it.

So far I am loving the goodies in this voxbox and I’m super thankful that I was included in this one – it has been a year since my last box.  I’ll be posting updates and details on the products as I have the chance to use them and try them out.  Did you get a Voxbox lately?  What are your thoughts on what you received?  Do you know what Influenster is and do you have an account?  If not – let me know and I’ll invite you if you are not taking part in it yet. 🙂

Jennifer Lopez Same Girl Music Video Makeup

I have been a Jennifer Lopez fan for years… from way back in the day when she was a dancer on “In Living Color” (yes, I am that old… and no – you can’t laugh. lol)  Her style has always been one that I have admired and her makeup is always on point.  I have been on pins and needles wanting to do this look.  It was difficult to pull off because I chose the look in the video that you can’t see very well since it is covered under Jennifer’s hat, but I used her look as inspiration and added some extra color to it to create the look I have here.  She had sultry smoky eye that looked like it incorporated a taupe-silver shade.  Since I have been wanting to use my Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette in a tutorial – I chose to use a pink hue with a silver/taupe to create this look.  I am pretty happy with how it came out.

At the end of the day – even if I wanted to use her Makeup in the video as the base for my creation, I really wanted to concentrate on the message that the song portrayed.

Cause in the end, I’m still the SAME GIRL… I don’t owe nobody!

Just a quick note about foundation… I have been asked a few times about my foundation routine.  I haven’t used foundation in 2 years.  I have tried & used it a few times (maybe 3x) in the last 2 years as trials for companies – but I do not wear foundation or primer.  If I do use primer I use the following:  Laura Geller Spackle, Benefit Porefessional or I use my Mally Evercolor Pore Perfection compact to set my makeup.  However, I truly do not use face products like that often and it is rare.  I’ll be touching base on my skincare routine, etc. in the next month.  Stay tuned…

When I had this look in mind, I wanted to make sure to create a look that would mimic JLo’s perfect bronzed and contour makeup that is always done so effortlessly.  I also loved the fact that she wore a New York Yankees hat (we are Yankees fans in our house), since she is a girl from the Bronx.  Since I am from Hawaii, I wanted to do something similar and rock out a “Maui Built” hat since I am from Maui.  I thought it was a cute interpretation. 🙂

I haven’t been taking very good eye photos lately – but it’s because I just stopped doing them the last few months and I have been focusing more on my overall look.  I’ll be sure to get good ones in future looks, so you can see the detail in the eye makeup.

I took the above photo about 6 hours later and wanted to show this look as well.  This photo was taken with Flash (since it was at night).  Most of my photos are taken during the day in natural lighting.

I hope you all enjoyed this look!  Thank you so much to all of you for your support and love over the last few years through my journey here on my blog and on YouTube.  So many changes have happened over the last year and all for the positive.  So many awesome blessings have also come my way.  This makeup post marks more than just a look I was inspired by in a music video – but it also reminds me of this journey that I am on.  I’ve met so many people – some were awesome and positive influences, others were generating negativity that I had to turn my back on, but everything happens for a reason and I learned that I am a better person because of the experiences I have had.  Thank you to all – I look forward to bringing you more looks, inspiration, my life I love and so much more!

I’ma keep on growing
Keep on shining
Just wanna do me
I had to thank God ’cause he chose me

I have done quite a few looks for Valentine’s Day this year and wanted to do one that would be a little on the dramatic side but definitely wearable.  I settled on a smokin’ red lip look with easy to achieve smoky eyes using majority of drug store products.  I am happy with how the look came out and I hope you like it too. 😉

Valentine's Day Makeup tutorial - Bombshell Love

I am working on my Valentine’s Day Fashion Look book and if the rain lets up here I’ll have it up before the end of the week.  With this look I wanted to be flirty but simplistic.  I paired it with an off the shoulder slouchy blouse and a black maxi skirt.  I decided it would be fun to keep it simple but still sexy and black tends to do very well with my very plus sized voluptuous figure. lol For my footwear I am using my Leopard print heels and gold jewelry for accessories.  Since my hair is normally long and very curly, I opted for a wig (for a completely different look).  I apologize as I was the only person home when I took my makeup photos and didn’t have any help to set up my camera and take my outfit photos so I do not have any to show.  But I will be adding this look to my Look book if I can remember.

Check out my Makeup Tutorial on YouTube for this look.  It is so easy to recreate and very quick to do as well so if you are in a rush you can certainly use this look for date night with your love.
