Ah, yes… I bring to you another Colour Pop swatch fest.  There is absolutely no denying it – it has easily become one of my favorite brands that I find I will head over to Colour Pop to see what is new versus over to Sephora’s website like I would normally do.  Today I bring to you the Shaaanxo x ColourPop collection.  I have been a huge fan of Shaaanxo for a few years now and was really excited to get my hands on this new collection rolled out by Colour Pop last year (2014).  I have been sitting on these gorgeous shades for quite a few months and I’m finally finding the time to share them with you.  Since the collection is still available on Colour Pop’s site, I figured it would be a great time to stop by and check them out.  While these shades make great ones for Fall and Winter months, I love that they give off that almost beachy vibe and thought they would make great Summer hues to pop on those gorgeous peepers of yours.  So – let’s get started.

Say Hello To Summer Shades With Shaaanxo x ColourPop http://honeygirlsworld.com

The Shaaanxo X Colorpop collection consists of four shades that were selected by Shaaanxo on YouTube.  This bundle of colors were selected to allow you to create a multitude of looks using just four shades.  The eye shadows are packaged together like a little quad and retail for $20 on Colourpop’s website.

  • XO: A Light Champagne shade with a pearlized finish
  • Selfie: Mid-tone peachy brown shade with a matte finish
  • Rebel: Mid-tone khaki green with a matte finish
  • Deluxe: warm red bronze with a pearlized finish

Like with other products I have reviewed and talked about from Colourpop – these shadows have that same buttery, creamy texture – almost mousse like and are very pigmented, offering huge color pay off in just one swipe.  But, as I discussed in previous posts – using these with a brush can be a bit of a challenge.  It is best to apply with your fingers and then use a synthetic brush to blend the shadows appropriately.  You can also use a small detailed shadow brush to apply in the smaller areas.  However the best color pay off is received with applying with your fingers.

Say Hello To Summer Shades With Shaaanxo x ColourPop http://honeygirlsworld.com

At first glance, these gorgeous colors definitely lend for a Fall shade range and I totally agree they would make a great collection for your fall looks.  However, after playing around and trying new looks with these, I find that the colors are perfect for those Summer looks that give that effortless vibe.  XO is a great inner corner highlight shade and can be used on it’s own to attract light to your eyes while showcasing just your lashes or your lips.  But if you are looking to bump up the look even more, try using Rebel all over the lid or run it along your lower lash line for a soft pop of color that brings out your gorgeous peepers.  Deluxe and Selfie work well together and when used in the same eye look can create a gorgeous bronze smoky eye perfect for those summer nights when you want a little drama and each color works well all over the lid or even blended together to create the perfect summer look.  While these shades are not traditional summer shades – they definitely will be my choice for the summer months.

*Quick note… Rebel can stain if you are using without a primer beneath the shadow.  It won’t have a long staining power – but sometimes may need a little more elbow power to remove it.  It’s nothing drastic though.

Say Hello To Summer Shades With Shaaanxo x ColourPop http://honeygirlsworld.com

My love for ColourPop cosmetics started around this time last year and I have since built quite a collection of shades for year round but I find that if you love neutral tones but want something a little more, this collection from Shaaanxo would be a great buy.  Every color you need to create one look or a plethora of them is included in this little quad of goodies.  I especially love that Colourpop has been including matte shades and increasing their matte shades available which make creating looks easier than ever.  When I first purchased from the brand last year, they didn’t offer any matte shades and this way – creating a “one brand look” is now simpler than before.  I’m not sure how long the Shaaanxo X Colourpop collection will remain available for purchase, but I definitely think it is gorgeous and I urge anyone to pick it up.

If you haven’t tried anything from Colourpop before and are a little intimidated by the color choices available, I think you would absolutely love this set.  Don’t forget to check out my other posts regarding other shadows and lippies available from Colourpop as well – which include swatches and all (links below).

The cateye “winged” liner is something that truly will never go out of trend – it’s absolutely timeless.  But, eye liners come and go and while some work well – others not so.  I have done my fair share of testing and trying out liners in a plethora of price points and brands and I’m always on the hunt for one that is not only affordable, but that will also be long lasting, smudge proof and do the job.  Today I bring to you my thoughts on the Jordana Cat eye Liners.  Let’s see if they live up to my standard.

Rainbow Cateyes with Jordana's Cat eye Liners http://honeygirlsworld.com

A few months ago Jordana Cosmetics released their Cat Eye Liners in a variety of colors.  I actually came across these beauties at my local Walgreens in the “What’s New” display and picked up a few colors I knew I had to have and try out.  Shortly after, Jordana sent over the whole collection of shades for me to try and share with you.  Each eye liner retails for $2.99 and there are a total of eight shades – some very wearable like black and brown and others bold shades like green, blue and gold.  Jordana’s claim is that these liners are lightweight, long wearing, smudge-proof and can be used by those from beginner to pro.

Rainbow Cateyes with Jordana's Cat eye Liners http://honeygirlsworld.com

The eye liner tip has a tapered brush applicator which is kind of standard when it comes to eye liners.  If you are like me and enjoy the NYC Liquid Eyeliner – you may like this liner as well.  The actual brush itself is not too long as to take away from control but offers good movement while still being stiff enough to create a nice wing.  I’m actually quite impressed with how nicely it glides on and find that it is easy to apply – though I have been creating a winged liner now for many years.

Left to Right: Black Leather (01), Black Brown (02), Orchid (03), Twilight (04), Caribbean (05), Envy (06), Suede (07) and Future (08)

Each shade has great pigmentation though some of them do require you apply more than one coat / layer.  I really like how the shades show up against my skin without issue and Black Leather (01) has been my go-to lately for a black liner when creating a wing.  These have a nice liquid consistency – they are not too runny or liquid-like but they are also not too thick which I think really makes a difference with application.

Valentine's Day Makeup featuring drugstore products

In the look above, I am using the Jordana Cat Eye liquid liner in Black Leather on my upper lash line to wing out the look.  A tutorial and full list of products for this look can be found here.

While I think these work great – especially for the cost, there are a few things that I could see worked on with regard to formulation.  While they are smudge proof, because I have watery eyes, I find that they do not last all day on me.  While the part of the liner on my lid will do fairly well, my outer corners or wing tends to fade and in some cases, it just comes off.  If I were to cry or tear up profusely it wouldn’t last and I would look like a raccoon.  Another issue I see, though not a problem for me, is the size of the brush applicator.  I don’t find an issue with it, but I’ve been creating winged liner and eye liner looks now for many years.  However, since the brush is quite small for those who are beginners, I can see how it would get frustrating when applying because the color deposited in one swipe is not as much due to the size of the brush.  It may take a few swipes over the lid to create the bold statement color someone is looking for.  While this is not an issue for me, I know that it can be for others so I figured that I would mention it.  While the liner is pigmented and the color bold in just one swipe, it may need to be built up to get the effect one is looking for.

Overall – I’m quite impressed with these liners.  Let’s face it, I’m always for shaving a buck and these are not only affordable, they do work.  Even with the little mentions of things that didn’t work for me, I’ve still been getting some great use out of these babies and I would recommend them.  For the price point – I think they are pretty darn cool.  I’m very impressed with what the drugstore brands have been releasing lately and it’s nice to see that the color range of drugstore products are really evolving.  You can purchase these products and more at your local Walgreens and CVS or online at Jordanacosmetics.com.

Have you tried these eye liners yet?  If so, what do you think about them?  If not, are you interested in testing them out for yourself?

It’s not very often that we chit chat brows here on the blog, probably because mine are pretty low maintenance for the most part so I don’t really pay too much attention to them.  However, today I join the Beauty Blogger Collaboration in sharing a little brow love.  I’m pretty blessed in that my brows are pretty full and usually I will just set them into place if I need to but otherwise, unless they need a little drama, they are simple as pie.  But, I figured I would share some of my favorite eye brow products with you and why I enjoy them so much.

Favorite eye brow products

Brows are really important as they frame the face and bring a look together.  My natural brows are fairly full so most times I will use a spoolie to comb them into place and if I feel the need, a little brow gel to hold their shape for the day.   Brow gels are probably the most essential in my arsenal, though I do have a few others that I enjoy.  I have tried many brow products over the years, but since I have sensitive skin – there are some that just do not work well for me or dry my brows out terribly.  I find that these products haven’t caused any of these issues so I continue to use them.

favorite brow products

First let’s talk brow gels.  This is my go-to and I will use it daily if I feel like my natural brows are unruly and out of control.  These two brow gels are clear and work well.  The NYX Control Freak has been a go-to for me over the last year (since it’s release) and I have a full review of this product which you can read up on here.  The Milani Brow Shaping Clear Gel is a favorite because of it’s small brush.  Both products offer nice control and hold without a crispy feeling.  They look natural and are easy to apply.  Out of all the brow products I own, I will pull for these the most for every day use and to set my brows in place when I have shaded them in.

favorite eye brow products

The next products on my list are brow tints or colored brow products.  These are easy just like the brow gels mentioned previously but they have a tint to them that will allow for shading in my brows.  These are especially perfect for those days during the summer when I tend to go lighter in my brows to match my hair that gets lightened quickly and easily from the sun.  These products will fill in any gaps and give my brows a lighter tone.

natural brows
  • I have been using the Per-fekt Brow Perfection Gel now for years and have repurchased this product many times.  In the shade caramel, this mascara like wand is perfect for shading in my brows and giving my brows a brighter and lighter appearance.  It lasts all day and keeps my brows in place for hours without budging.
  • Benefit’s Gimme Brow was added to my brow game last year and I’m not gonna lie… for the amount of product you get in a small little tube, it is pretty costly.  But, honestly – I have repurchased twice so I must like it.  The tiny little brush is perfect for filling in your brows and adding more volume.  The cream-like gel has tiny little fibers that fill in the brows to provide a natural brow look that is full and set in place.  I don’t use this product as much as the other tints because the shade is just a tad bit too ashy for me, but it works well during the winter months which is when I tend to pull for it most.
  • LASHEMS Colour Strokes Brow Tint and Lift in Brunette is one of my favorites and has a caramel toned shade that fills in my brows easily and sets those babies in place that they will not budge for hours.  I love to use this product especially in the summer to lighten my brows a tad but also keep them in place while I’m playing in the sun.  You can read my full review and see before and after photos on the LASHEM Colour Strokes Brow Tint here.

favorite brow products

Cailyn’s Gelux Eyebrow in Cocoa is a thick tinted wax that works perfectly to keep my brows in place but also for filling my brows in.  It has a thick consistency but it is also quite firm, not as creamy as you would expect.  Due to it’s firm wax texture, it makes shading in your brows really easy and provides a really nice texture so that it looks natural when applied.  Shaping my brows is easy with the built in brush and this product is great for travel.  This is not my “all the time” brow product – but when I really want a sculpted look, this works well and is a favorite.  This is much thicker than Anastasia Dip Brow but this is what I opted to use after Dip Brow caused my brows to dry out and flake.  It’s been a great alternative for me without the sensitivity issues and I love that Cailyn’s Gelux Eyebrow comes in 8 different shades, making it easy for me to lighten my brows up should I find the need.  I also love that this is waterproof… so I find it my go-to for days I want my brows in place but I know I’ll be sweaty or near the ocean or water play and it will last many hours on the brows.

favorite eye brow products

New on my favorites list are a few products from Paula Dorf and Jordana.  Paula Dorf’s 2+1 for Brows in Brunette is a great product to use when you want to shape and shade in your brows and then set with a built in wax.  Definitely a good product for travel.  I do love to use it when going out and I want a fuller brow shape.  If you are looking for longevity however, this product may not be good for a long day and is not waterproof.  But it is great for filling in the brows and the two shades available in the pot are perfect for days I want to go darker or lighter.  You can find three different shade selections for this brow set so you should easily be able to find the brow shade that matches best for you.

The next product is the Jordana FabuBrow Eyebrow Pencil.  This is just a simple drugstore pencil with a little brush at the end.  This pencil comes in 6 shades and I find that I can switch between a few of them depending on my “brow color mood”.  It’s easy to apply – just use as you would a regular brow pencil.  The color is long lasting but not waterproof and you can choose to set with a brow gel if you like.  I find I use this often because it is easy, affordable and it works.

favorite brow products

Last on my brow game list are some overall products from one brand I enjoy.  Billion Dollar Brows is a line I was introduced to early last year and I find that I really enjoy their products.  The Billion Dollar Brows Best Sellers Kit is probably the best value for this line and includes everything you need to create some awesome brows.  Check out my post on this kit here.  I love that when applying these brow products they make my eyebrows look full but natural.  I don’t use it often, but I do love to use it when I have a full face of makeup (eye shadow, etc.) because it really frames my face nicely.

So that is my round up of favorite brow products.  I’m sure there are so much more out there.  At one time, the Wet n Wild Eye Brow Kit was my absolute favorite and if it was still easy for me to get my hands on – I would probably still be using it.  Like anything else beauty, what works for some – may not work for others.  It’s funny because a cult favorite in the beauty community actually did not work for me while others are considered my holy grail products.  That’s the great thing about beauty – everyone and everything is all about individual preference. 🙂  For example… I like a little color in my brows from time to time… so it’s okay to have fun with makeup!

Happy Monday.  I haven’t been using much makeup lately, since I’ve been on mommy mode and a bit lazy, but since it’s Monday, I figured for Makeup Monday I would share a palette that I’ve been enjoying.  I have been a huge fan of Missy Lynn (Start2FinishMUA) for quite a while and was excited with the release of her Missy Lynn palette a few months ago through BH Cosmetics.  I purchased it immediately after it was released and I wanted to share my thoughts on this palette with you.

BH Cosmetics Missy Lynn Palette

“Start with Confidence.

Finish with Success.”

– Missy Lynn

For those who don’t know, Missy Lynn, otherwise known as Start2FinishMUA (via YouTube and social media) has been a YouTube Beauty Guru now for quite some time and winner of the NYX Face Awards 2013.  I started watching Missy Lynn years ago when she first started on YouTube and have been a fan since.  An active Military member by day and Glam diva by night.

The BH Cosmetics Missy Lynn Eyeshadow and Baked Highlighter Palette retails for $18.95 (CURRENTLY ON SALE FOR $11.95) and includes six (6) large sized eye shadows and two (2) baked highlighters.  This palette boasts shades that can be used on any skin tone (which I love), and can take the wearer from a day-to-night look easily.   It is a limited edition palette so I wanted to share it with all of you should you decide you want to pick it up.

BH Cosmetics Missy Lynn Palette

The purple, gold and bronze shades in this palette have really made it a winner for me to use.  The colors offer nice pigment and I like that there are a blend of satin and metallic type shades.  The highlighters in the palette also do double duty for eye shadow shades as well.  I think overall this palette will offer anyone something perfect for on the go (it travels really nicely) and while the shades are pigmented, they can also be worn sheer or softer with a light hand.

BH Cosmetics Missy Lynn Palette Swatches

I have noticed lately that a lot of makeup palettes I’ve been purchasing have had issues with a layer on the top of them that require me to take a tissue or paper towel and lightly wipe the top layer.  This was definitely the case in this palette, especially for the lighter shades.  At initial swatch, before using the napkin to remove the top layer, testing the product yielded light pigmentation.  After using the napkin however, each color picked up nicely and the pigmentation of each shadow was definitely there.  The darker shades and those that have metallic texture are the ones that are buttery and offer high color payoff off the bat, where as the satin and lighter shades took a bit to build up on – but that was just initially.  I find that they work well now after using it a few times.

BH Cosmetics Missy Lynn Palette Swatches

The highlighter shades are gorgeous and really pigmented.  They blend out nicely and are not as powdery as I would expect a baked anything to be.  They wear nicely wet as a foiled shadow but I’ve been enjoying them as a soft highlight on my cheek bones.  Highlighter swatches are done dry on bare skin, no primer used.  Each photo was taken in natural lighting.

BH Cosmetics Missy Lynn Palette
Since wearing makeup has been non-existent for me lately, I only have a cellphie (cell phone selfie) photo to share.  But overall you can see how nicely the shades look against my skin.  The highlighter did not pull up nicely in the photo, but don’t worry – it was still very prominent and my cheek bones were absolutely stunning.  My favorite highlight is the rose gold… with a soft fluffy brush, it offers a perfect highlight for my skin tone every time.

This palette is allergy and clinically tested which make it a plus for this lady who has sensitive skin.  I love that it is not only non-irritating, but it is also Cruelty Free.

BH Cosmetics Missy Lynn Palette

I have been a long time fan of BH Cosmetics palettes as they offer some good products for great price points.  This palette is fun and I love that the packaging really says a lot about who Missy Lynn is… the chains and dog tag represent her being an active military member and it’s still girly which is the type of person Missy Lynn is.  This is definitely a fun palette to have in any collection and I know I’ll be getting some use out of it for sure.

It’s no secret that I am fond of Colour Pop Cosmetics and their squishy shadows that I love so much.  I recently did a haul and picked up a few blush shades that I knew I would get some use out of, some that are newly released which I just couldn’t stay away from.  I wanted to share these awesome fun shades with you so that you could use for Spring and year round with you so you can pick them up while they are still available.

Colour Pop Blushes

First we have two gorgeous blushes.  I really wanted to pick up their new purple blush (Rain) because I figured I could get some dual use out of it.  This gorgeous bright and bold blush is matte and while it looks super bold in the pot, it can be applied with a light hand to create a cool effect on the cheeks.  The pink blush (Prenup) is a mid-toned pink with a soft plum like undertone and is one that I think will be universally flattering on most people and skintones and definitely a blush perfect for every day use.  Prenup has a satin finish with a soft almost gold shimmer shift.

Colour Pop Blushes Swatches

As you can see from my swatches these shades are fun for Spring and I love that I can use both as eye shadows as well.  I have been using Prenup almost daily and I love it.  Each blush is just $8.00 and the application reminds me of that from the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes… so I apply them with my fingers.

Note – if you are looking at applying these blushes with a brush, I suggest the ELF (Eyes Lips Face) Small Stippling Brush.  Pat your brush into the pot to pick up color and stipple your brush onto your cheeks.  Take your time to build up the shade.  When I use a blush I like to have a flush of color so it looks natural, so you can apply to your desired effect.  If you don’t have that specific brush, any synthetic brush will work and your fingers are surely your best tools as well.  I love that Colour Pop blushes offer me all day color and wear and if I want it to last even longer, I will set it with a corresponding powder blush.

Colour Pop Lippie Stix

While this was originally all about the blush, I have a few lippies I think you would enjoy as well.

Colour Pop Westie

Westie, a soft and wearable baby pink shade which wears matte and quite comfortable on the lips.  If you enjoy matte lipsticks and are looking for a pink that you can use everyday, I think Westie is a great one.   It’s a shade that will be quite flattering on many and I love that it is so handy to take a long with you for touch ups.

Colour Pop Westie Swatch

Tootsi is a little less traditional.  It is one of those shades that not many people can pull off but is popular.  That muted brown/grey toned lipstick that everyone is coveting for.  This shade is gorgeous, but I make sure to use it with a smoky eye or something bold on the eyes to balance out the lips otherwise I look a little… deadly – lol.

Colour Pop Tootsi

This grey-beige is all over the internet, Instagram and Social Media and if you are looking for an alternative to a more expensive brand shade, you can’t beat this one.  I find that if I use it along with a pink toned nude lip liner, it actually makes the shade much more wearable for me.  It’s a gorgeous one that I think could be pullled off year round.  This is a matte shade and since the color is interesting… I definitely suggest you moisturize and exfoliate your lips prior to use for this one.

Colour Pop Tootsi Swatch

Each Colour Pop Lippie Stix Lipstick is just $5.00 and you can easily find a shade that will work for you.  Overall, I think the price point is nice and I am always in love with the pigmentation on these lipsticks.

So – have you tried any of these products from Colour Pop yet?  Is there anything on your list of must-haves or wants?  If you have tried Colour Pop, what is one your must have list for me to check out?
