When it comes to my “Go-To” makeup products, lip color or lip balm and mascara are my everythang… they are the only two things I know I MUST have. But, a great lip color that will last and look good for hours on end – well, come on ladies… we all know it’s practically impossible. And, finding a lip color that my husband doesn’t mind wearing – well, obviously – there is no such thing… ha ha! A few months ago I was introduced to LipSense and boy has it been a lifesaver. Today I’m going to share with you a few gorgeous shades that I got from Bombshell Cosmetics and we’ll chat a little more about these lippies that have made such a huge impression on me.
Bombshell Cosmetics – which is owned by Lauren Williamson, sells a plethora of Senegence products, which also include LipSense lip shades in a variety of shades. Like I mentioned before, I have used LipSense before and have massed quite a few shades in my collection. It has easily become one of my favorite longwearing lipsticks to date. Why? Well, it’s simple – I don’t have to worry about touch up while on the go and I can kiss my husband without worry of color transfer on him. He likes that and I like kissing him 😀 I think the ultimate test for any lipstick is to try a dark shade or a red with a kiss test and if it passes, it’s a win.
*On my lips (above) I’m wearing SheLaLa – a gorgeous standard red. SheLaLa was applied with three layers of color and topped with Glossy Gloss to not only set the lip color but to provide that gorgeous glossy and plump lip you see.
*The photo above (the lip swatch) is what my lips looked like after about 6 hours of wear – through eating, drinking, kissing, etc. I reapplied the glossy gloss to add more shine, moisturize my lips and I was ready to conquer the world once again.
Through eating, drinking, kissing and long hours running errands or out and about, the only touch ups I need to do is to reapply the gloss – which not only secures the lip color on your lips during initial application, but it also keeps the lips moisturized so it doesn’t dry out. After hours of using the same color – through wear and tear and a ton of trials, my colors are always exactly as they were when I applied them. I never have to worry about my bright reds rubbing off and causing a scene.
*To mix it up a bit for all of you – I applied Pumpkin Spice to my lips – three layers total and topped the lip color with Matte Gloss, which I had in my personal collection. Matte Gloss is obviously matte, but will set your lip color in place like Glossy Gloss does and give your lips a matte finish.
Pumpkin Spice has been a great welcome to my collection of colors because it is the perfect “Honey” shade and great for me to use every day to add some color to my lips.
How to apply LipSense:
- Make sure your lips are clean and dry. You can choose to define your lips with the LinerSense first, also available from Bombshell Cosmetics. I tend to use the doe foot applicator to define my line when applying.
- Make sure your lips are parted and apply the LipSense product with the applicator, beginning at the outside corner of your lip – while spreading the lip color. Make sure you are sweeping the color on in one motion, do not go back and forth or remove the applicator.
- Apply three layers (letting each layer dry about five seconds) before applying the next layer. This is important, because if the layers do not dry, it will start to rub off the previous layers you applied.
- Once you have applied the three layers, let the last layer dry and then apply your top coat – Glossy Gloss, Matte Gloss, etc. (there are a ton of different glosses available). This gloss will not only set your lip color so it is long lasting, but it’s a moisturizing gloss that will keep your lips moist while wearing.
A few suggestions… I definitely suggest taking your gloss topper with you on the go. This is great to add to your lips should they start to feel dry. Also note that you cannot use any other gloss with LipSense color as it will not set your lipstick properly and that’s when it will come off.
*In the photo above, I’m using LipSense in Pumpkin Spice topped with Matte Gloss. This photo was taken after 7 hours or so of use. As you can see, there is some fading and some of the lip color is coming off, however – I noticed that this happens more with lip colors with shimmer. This color lasted through a 10 hour day before I finally removed it.
When purchasing your LipSense color – I highly suggest getting a Collection, especially if it is your first time buying or trying the product. The collection includes the Lip Color of your choice as well as a Glossy Gloss and Ooops! Remover. The collection retails for $55.00. Why do I suggest this you might add? Well, I have found that the lip color is easiest removed with the Ooops! Remover as many of my traditional makeup removers (even my cleansing oils and coconut oil) do not remove the product easily or on their own. Also – you’ll need a Glossy Gloss to set your product, so it’s going to save you some time if you get them altogether.

LipSense is one of those kinds of makeup products that may take a little practice when first trying it out. It’s not difficult, but applying to your lips and getting in the habit of “not” pressing your lips together until the color is set with gloss, well – it can be somewhat of a challenge if you’re used to pressing your lips with other lip colors. But, once it is applied and once you get the hang out of it – you’ll probably like it like I do.
Just a note – on first application, you can get a tingle on your lips which goes away after applying the gloss. This doesn’t always happen, only if I don’t apply the color all the time. Some people may not get that tingle while others may get it full force. Don’t be alarmed, you are okay, lol. And, remember, do not go back and forth when applying the color so you get even coverage. Also – I LOVE to layer different colors together to create my own shades. One of my favorite combinations is Pumpkin Spice and Sheer Pink to create a pretty pinky nude tone with a golden shimmer.
